There's also this lovely scene in episode 13 and even though it's more comedic I still liked it and felt like it has potential! Personally I love a good poisoning <3

The party rescues Sein and brings him back to his village where he asks them to stay but they decide to continue their journey. In the forest Stark gets bitten by a snake and then his nose starts bleeding.

After some debating on what to do they end up going back to the village and ask the priest for help but he tells them it's too late and it can only be treated early on. However, he suggests his brother take a look at it because he might be able to help.

The brother ends up being Sein and he quickly and effortlessly heals Stark and tells them that now, they're even.

oddly specific whump scenario i really like (i hope i can explain this well so you guys get what i mean)

when the whumpee is really sick/injured and feverish and they're only (barely) conscious for brief periods of time. there's someone there, taking care of them but they aren't sure who it is (bonus points if caretaker is actually a stranger). whumpee either subconsciously knows they're save or maybe they subconsciously know they should be wary but they simply don't have the strength/presence of mind to be careful.

it's best when it's from the whumpee's pov so everything is blurry, they can barely make out shapes or the words caretaker is saying to them but they obedient swallow whatever concoctions they pour into their mouth whenever they're conscious enough.

even better if it's an old-timey/magical/fantasy kind of setting and the caretaker is a witch or herbalist living in the woods where they found whumpee injured/sick and decided to take them to their cabin and nurse them back to health.

really, there isn't enough of this in media (movies/animes/fics/...) and i need more of it!!!

really my favorite kind of whump is where a character is not with the caretaker you’d expect/they’d choose. There are never nearly enough fics for me because a lot of hurt/comfort is so shippy (and while I don’t usually love the romantic caretaking thing because it’s too schmoopy for me, I still love the more expected caretaking pairs!! not hatin’ on people who write it AT ALL!) 

But like. Collapsing on someone with whom they have a tense or even antagonistic relationship. Stuck driving a recent ex-partner to the ER because no one else is able to do it. Being lost with a teammate they don’t like. In an elevator sick with a coworker who thinks they’re the boss’ pet. When a story INTRODUCES two characters to one another by having one show up bloody on their doorstep. 

I just like… I love friendship fics and there’s no stronger platonic energy than two people who have 0 sexual/romantic chemistry and who aren’t that close to begin with awkwardly fumbling over boundaries??

plus, you get good moments like:

“is this character always this dramatic or are they really injured?”

“this character’s always been polite but now one on one they’re such an asshole? oh nvm they’re crabby because they’re dying”

“this character’s always been an asshole but they’re being so nice rn and I don’t trust it”

“oh god am i allowed to touch you like this or are you gonna kill me later?”

soooo there's a bit of a follow up!

so after toyochika removes the curse, they leave to join hakuro and masakage (toyochika's shikigami) but fuzuki is clearly still exhausted and unable to use his technique

to fix that, he asks toyochika about a 'method to enhance shikigami' and toyochika tells him it was a failure and nearly killed masakage and they shouldn't even be talking about it

however, fuzuki insists that he uses it on him, claiming that his body is not like that of a normal human being

and after some arguing and ranmaru trying to stop him, toyochika agrees and uses the method on fuzuki, very clearly causing him pain (and that's where the chapter ends and we haven't seen him since so we don't know if there will be consequences to this and/or what they might be - hoping that there will be some more whumpy stuff following this hehe)

I recently read some incredible whump in the manga I'm currently reading. Let me tell you all about it (tbh there's a lot of whump in this manga but a lot of it is a lil unsatisfying to me bc the character can manipulate his own blood and then also heals himself just like that so whenever he gets hurt it's actually a good thing and makes him stronger. Honestly I'm thinking of making a whump list about it though! The manga is really good and interesting and like I said, there's a lot of whumpy scenes).

So the manga is called Miyabichi no Onmyouji.

This is the description of it on the website I'm reading it on:

A time when the boundary between human and demon was vague. Ten sacred items – “Jingi” had been stolen from Mikado’s Treasury by some demons. An imperial order to recover the Jingi was given to all the Onmyōji in the capital, including “the heretic” – Fuzuki. He sets out to retrieve the first Jingi, but something unthinkable happened…

So the good whump starts in chapter 14 and lasts until chapter 17.

After fighting a demon and using too much blood to fight, Fuzuki is exhausted but then another demon shows up, this one even stronger than the previous one. He quickly beats Fuzuki and pins him to the wall and then puts a curse on him.

Ranmaru, a little half-demon weasle kid who Fuzuki promised to protect comes back after Fuzuki told him to escape while he fought the demon and manages to take Fuzuki to a safe place (for now).

Then the following happens (I wish I could make this shorter but everything about it is just so good, I need you all to see this!):

(Just FYI Ranmaru's mother died not too long ago and she left that handkerchief with him, so it's his treasure. Ranmaru and Fuzuki don't get along very well so him using his precious handkerchief to help Fuzuki is very heartwarming.)

After this, the demon that beat Fuzuki and put that curse on him shows back up but another Onmyouji (Toyochika) and also Fuzuki's right hand-man (a wolf demon named Hakuro) show up just in time to fight him off and save Fuzuki and Ranmaru.

(The next chapter is about Fuzuki and Toyochika's past. But the nice whump isn't quite over yet!)

Toyochika performs the curse removal and Fuzuki has a nightmare about his mean step-mother who despised him and made him do something terrible. Then it continues like this: 

And that's pretty much where it ends (afterwards Fuzuki goes to Ranmaru's room, Ranmaru wakes up and tries to jump onto Fuzuki to hug him but he stops him and tells him 'not to jump at him so casually' and that makes Ranmaru very happy because Fuzuki being mean like this means he's back to normal.)

wounds getting infected is actually so good. the pain and the swelling and the redness is already great, the fact that it usually gets kind of gross is also cool (because whumpees trying to hide it always gets messy and it's a hassle), but also... it comes with a fever and stuff. sometimes. i like it when it comes with a fever. it's great. whumpee could've fessed up and admitted to the wound but they didn't and now they're feverish and passed out and it's so much worse than it had to be

I'm currently reading Tokyo Aliens and in one of the chapters one of the main characters, Tenkubashi Sho, used his 'ability' of hyper regeneration but it turns out that there are repercussions to this and so he's left in a lot of pain afterwards. Thought that was very lovely!

there also was a nice little bit at the beginning of the manga (chapter 9) in which jinshi is overworked and exhausted and i love how the usually put together sir jinshi looks disheveled and tired! the messy hair, the obvious bags under his eyes and his behavior! jinshi being all whiny and pouty and wanting a break!

so i've been reading the apothecary diaries/kusuriya no hitorigoto and in chapters 61+62 there were some nice lil moments that gave me the whumperflies just bc of the nice expressions 🤍 a little more details+screenshots after read more to not accidentally spoil someone who might be reading!

jinshi was invited to a hunt and he had to wear a mask. it was very warm but he couldn't remove the mask because of his identity, he couldn't eat or drink anything either because of it and eventually it got to him. the expressions are so chef's kiss, the man was suffering! i loved the part where maomao realized he's not just being his usual dramatic self but that something really is wrong with him 🫶

so i've been reading the apothecary diaries/kusuriya no hitorigoto and in chapters 61+62 there were some nice lil moments that gave me the whumperflies just bc of the nice expressions 🤍 a little more details+screenshots after read more to not accidentally spoil someone who might be reading!

jinshi was invited to a hunt and he had to wear a mask. it was very warm but he couldn't remove the mask because of his identity, he couldn't eat or drink anything either because of it and eventually it got to him. the expressions are so chef's kiss, the man was suffering! i loved the part where maomao realized he's not just being his usual dramatic self but that something really is wrong with him 🫶
