Y O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O !!!!!!!!
HE LOOKS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm absolutely in love with the solar panel door wings, they're absolutely adorable and I love the idea of Smokescreen taking naps in the sun like a giant cat. Maybe after he's brought to Earth, sometimes he'll nap in the middle of the desert to help with their energon troubles
I'm also 110% on board with him having unlocked Silly Vocal Stim, the idea of him chirping and beeping makes me so happy on so many different levels <333
I also didn't expect Sciencist Smokescreen to come out of this but ngl? That's a super neat idea and a fun way to take this, and ofc I will never say no to Smokescreen adopting and bringing the rovers with him
So I wanted to try out a new art program and found, Krita! I really like it because it's similar to Photoshop, which I'm using a lot in school. Though I need to remember to make the canvas bigger next time.
Anyway, I needed something to draw to test it out. So I drew some art for @smokescreenimusprime Unknown Rover AU.
Here's the boy:
Tumblr media
Yes he's boxy, so is the rover. Deal with it.
The rover used as a reference is Curiosity. Perseverance is a bit bigger and more streamline, but it was sent to Mars in 2020, so yeah.
I'm was very excited when I saw this AU because it combined both of my favorites things! Smokescreen and Mars!
By the way, here's some personal notes under the cut.
I did a lot of research when drawing this to make sure I got it pretty accurate. So first thing, here's the size reference:
Tumblr media
Curiosity is the biggest one.
I imagine the Smokescreen having a rover alt-mode means he can use solar energy, instead of worrying about his small amount of energon. This means he goes eepy on his stomach so his wing/solar panels can soak up as much sun as possible.
Another thing, rovers make beep sounds, kinda like Bumblebee I guess. So Smokescreen beeps when he's surprised or excited. He doesn't do it as a way to speak, just as a vocal stim or reaction.
Oh, the round thing over his eye in the drawing is the camera. He'd be able to zoom in, record, and analyze with it. There are other devices in the rover that would allow him to detect radiation, elements, and do more in depth analytics.
All this makes me feel like he'd be placed to work with Ratchet if he ever got to Earth. He'd probably still have his weapon, but I still feel like he'd slowly start leaning towards a scientist like life. Oooo! The rovers could be his mini helpers!

Hey, so not a question related to AUs, so you don't have to respond if you don't want to, but...
How is everything? You were gone for a very long time and it kinda worried me. I understand that things can be stressful and I just want to know that even if I don't personally know you, I still care.
Hugs and head pats. (Instead of hugs and kisses)
hi!!! Thanks for the check in, it's appreciated :>
and dw, the main reason I haven't been posting much is because college has got me pretty busy sjfvsjfvs but your concern and hugs and head pats are definitly accepted :D

It's so funny that the cons are supposed to trick people but then they immediately get trick, outplayed and bamboozled by some security guard that never officially finished collage but somehow have a better acting skills.
Fly high Smokescreen.

that's going to lead to absolute fucking Chaos but like. On The Down Low
because there would be two groups who could possibly hear this: guards and robbers, but like, neither these people can just go about saying it, albeit for different reasons
For guards, first off that would disclose the nature of a relic which is Against The Rules, and second off this would place a HUGE target on Smokescreen's back. I'd like to imagine he gets along really well with the staff at the Archives and hand picked all of them, so they definitely wouldn't want him getting hurt
For the robbers on the other hand, it's because talking about it extensively and with the wrong groups of people would get them arrested for breaking into a government facility
But at the same time, regardless of who they are, the collective reaction is largely going to be What The Actual F U C K Does That Mean
the result: lots of quiet hushed whispers and rumors about the implications that range from Smokescreen being a secret Prime to him being one of the Thirteen
so i'm reading through your aus because i JUST finished TFP and i am screaming and also i love smokescreen. that got off topic quick. ANYWAY i get to the archivist and i read the most recent post and i realize. Unicron is basically like a guard dog in that sense. hes too scary to deal with for robbers n stuff so they just. "fuck this shit i'm OUT." and LEAVE
FHDBFHDHHFHF THANKEE SO MUCH AND YEAH HE IS ISN'T HE-
Smokescreen accidentally got the world’s best security system for the Relic Room because even hard core atheists are going to hesitate when faced with Whatever The Fuck That Is, let alone the seeming majority of the population who do believe in Primus and Unicron
and imagine all the rumors this would spread too, especially because of how..... Chill he is about the whole thing. Like, at this point he's more or less gotten desensitized to the whole "The Antichrist Is In A Jar In My Basement And Definitely Wants Me Dead" thing
and what if for shits and giggles Smokey isn't..... super secretive about it. Like, of course he doesn't just Talk About It to any person who walks into the archives, but he treats Unicron's existence with the same level of security as he does the rest of the relics. So let's say somebody of a high enough rank (aka..... Not Civillian), he'll absolutely mention it in passing when talking about what relics he has
but imagine being the other bot in that conversation. You're just a simple security guard and you find out your friendly, sociable local librarian has Satan in his basement and fails to see why everyone's making a big deal about it

EAHFNJSEBFSEVD P E R F E CT -
oh my god I forgot about the fact the things he held would be invisible, I didn't even THINK about the implications that would spread to other bots that's absolutely perfect-
maybe the first times Smokescreen did it was completely an accident, but then the incident with Starsceam was essentially "hey wouldn't it be really funny if-" because Smokescreen is always looking for an excuse to fuck with him
oh god now I'm imagining Smokey every once in a while bringing Predaking with him on his little Scare The Shit Out Of People escapades. Now there's the addition of massive gouge marks, broken open doors to the mix and an uptick in the various ways vehicons were getting mauled
maybe some poor member of high command gets to ponder the horrifying possibility of the Predacon being possessed or something
christ the realisation that Predaking was working with The GhostTM the whole time must've been TERRIFYING and Smokescreen savored every moment of it <3
but ALSO
because I have Zero(0) self control, I thought of a way to angst this as well :3
so you mentioned the Phase Shifter was a bit broken and Smokescreen probably couldn't take it off, right? Weeeeeeell what if I take that and run a little farther :333
what if when the whole base was coming down on top of him, when the Shifter was getting crushed and slightly broken it kinda..... partially shifted inside of Smokescreen's body. It's now stuck in there and Smokescreen can't get it out or turn it off
so basically, any time Smokey wants to be seen or heard, he needs to focus to make it happen. Any time that focus slips, he fades from existence as if he doesn't exist, and there's nothing he can do about it
I'm certain this won't cause any long term mental issues for him when he reunites with the Autobots and Ratchet surgically removes the Shifter :) Not at all :)))
Hello again! I've been scrollign through some of your older au's and just- I need more GoD. I want more possible younger/older brother relationship between Smokey & Predaking, even though technically Smokey's older(he's the little brother, he's definitely more immature than Preds). Also, I have to ask: What did happen when Soundwave tried to groundbridge him off the ship?
I wanna see possible Smokey & Preds saving the other Predacons, or if they're not able to, for at least a bonding moment with Smokey comforting Predaking after he's lost his siblings. I wanna see the reactions of the team to the anonymous helper, sending them decepticon info and nothing else. I wanna see their reactions to the supposed ghost, haunting Darkmunt. I wanna see if they blame themselves. Do they think they should've been nicer to him? To the basically kid, who gave up his life to give them the chance to end this war? Who never got the chance of seeing his home planet not plauged by war and destruction? Do they blame themselves for his spark not being able to rest, supposedly stuck here on earth, not let into the allspark and haunting the ones who killed him? Do they blame themselves for his death? Do they?
W E L L >:DDDDD
with Soundwave, this was something inspired from when Smokey yote himself off the Nemesis. Specifically how when he was falling, he ended up turning the Shifter off before he was about to fall through one of the portals only to get knocked aside by Megatron
(does this kinda contradict the S2 finale and how Smokey snuck back in canon? Maybe, but to be fair 1) that part of canon doesn't exist anymore, 2) the Phase Shifter is a little broken and doesn't work the same way anymore and 3) canon broke the logic first so Therefore I'm legally allowed to do the same)
anyways, why Soundwave doesn't talk about it
just. Smokescreen cranked up his Vengeful Ghost Factor to 20. When Soundwave tried ground bridging him off the ship, he simply kept slowly walking toward the mech, straight through the portal as if it didn't exist in the first place. He was relentless in his following, but also very very careful to never be fully in sight. Aside from a few slow following attempts, Smokey just stayed in the walls and floor around him. He'd hide in the floor and grab at his feet, gently brush his hands on his plating when he found him in the halls, would seek our and destroy any and all security cameras he could to make Soundwave just a little bit more blind
Soundwave doesn't mess with Smokescreen very much after that
but on a completely different note, you're absolutely right, Smokey and Predaking have SUCH sibling energy. Smokescreen talks for hours about anything and everything, but Predaking's favorite stories are the ones Smokey read in the Archives. He loves learning about Cybertronian culture, art, history, all those beautiful things which he never had a chance to experience himself. He's also fiercely protective of the smaller bot, and sure said protection is unnecessary on account of the whole He's Already Dead thing (at least to his knowledge), he can't help it
the two also like to go on long flights together. Smokescreen will hitch a ride on Predaking's back and they'll soar through the atmosphere together, nothing but the wind holding them back and gravity bending to their whims. These flights also serve as good secure places for them to talk without any of the Decepticons hearing them since whispering directly into Predaking's ears can get a little tiring for simple conversation
it's actually during one of these flight trips that Smokescreen tells Predaking about the Decepticon's plans to kill the other Predacons, at which he understandably flips his absolute SHIT. He's about ready to go on a fucking rampage and sets a good deal of the sky on fire, and it's only through some very desperate convincing on Smokey's part that the mech doesn't fly back to the Nemesis right that instant and tear them to shreds
so they come up with a plan. Predaking will distract the Autobots and keep them away for long enough so Smokescreen can use the phase shifter to get them all to safety by leading them deeper into the tunnels. Then they'll use the CNA and Synthetic Energon being stored to blow the place sky high so the Decepticons think the Predacons are dead and that they have Predaking's loyalty secured
I'll admit, I'm not too sure where exactly to go from here in terms of that specific plot thread. My best idea right now is Smokescreen hacking the Decepticon Groundbridge controls and stealing energon to keep them all fed which he simply disguises as his usual Ghostly Shenanigans. Predaking definitely affectionately call him their "Preda-prince" but given how close the two of them are it's basically official and he's considered a Predacon in all but frame by all of them
and Y E S with the Autobots. Wheeljack's account of this "ghost" is enough to raise some eyebrows. After all, he isn't a superstitious person, and the fact he's not that skeptical about it..... well, that's a little weird already
and oh boy, wouldn't it be fun if when they tried to take down Darkmount, Smokescreen ended up giving them some help behind the scenes :)
and honestly, the aftermath of that is going to be painful, for both groups. Smokescreen because as much as he desperately wants to reunite with the other Autobots, he can't deny that being behind enemy lines like this could be SUPER useful. He could feed the Autobots information, interfere with the Decepticons plans and technology, lower their morale to make them easier opponents......
it's too tantalising to give up because the Autobots need every advantage they have, especially now, so he decides to pay dead for a little while longer
but of course....... the Autobots are still completely under the impression he's dead. The guilt is all still there, and the fact it seems Smokescreen's spark is lingering in such a wrathful way? That despite everything he's done, the ultimate sacrifice he gave, he's been trapped and tethered to this plane of existence and not allowed the relief of the Allspark
it tears them apart inside :)

So... For Dark Infection. How would Smokescreen react to Unicron start up possessing Megatron? And how would it affect the voices in his head? Would it just be one voice that's a mix of Unicron and Megatron? Not to mention you never touched up an how Unicron screws with Smokescreen in the first place.
w e l l :))))
Smokescreen had been having the time of his life. Sure the Dark Energon was still in his system and had it's own issues, but it was INFINITELY easier to deal with now that Megatron was dead. Gone were the mental jabs and prodding trying to glean any useful information from his mind, gone was the voice feeding into his insecurities trying to turn him against the other Autobots, gone was the constant fear of slipping up and hurting everyone around him
for the first time in months, Smokescreen was genuinely happy
but then all that changes when he goes to sleep one night. He dreams of a darkened void filled with purple lightning and clouds. Of a gargantuan being made of the deepest rocks and stones yet with the unmistakable air of divinity. Of vivid purple eyes, a mirror of his own, that threaten to drown him if he looks too long
He dreams of a booming, yet oddly comforting voice. Of a hand extended, offering to take his. Of promises that swear to bring a better life than he can dream
but he hesitates. In the distance he hears muffled cursing and screaming of a voice he recognizes in time with lightning strikes, and it frightens him
so the voice offers an ultimatum. In a few weeks time, he will arrive on Cybertron with his vessel, at which Smokescreen must make his choice. Stand by him willingly, or be reduced to a puppet
and then he awakens
he does not do so quietly or calmly. He awakens screaming and fighting an invisible assailant. The Dark Energon's presence in his mind and spark burns and aches in a pulsing rhythm, almost like a promise of what was to come. His eyes and biolights glow with an intensity rivaling when he was first infected, and he feels a rush of power he only felt in the midst of battle
the following days are strange. It's a balance of both being skeptical of Unicron and Megatron's return, but still preparing because if it is then the results would be disastrous. Smokescreen tries to keep himself busy and drown out Unicron's rapidly growing presence in his mind. He rarely speaks to Smokescreen outside of when he sleeps, but he's always there and almost certainly watching
as for when he shows up........
Unicron's mental prods and tugs for control weren't even comparable to Megatron's. Megatron's were always like a particularly annoying grab, fragile and weak but definitely noticeable
Unicron's........ it was all consuming. It was an ocean that could easily drown him and not even allow a moment to breathe, yet doesn't. He presence recedes the closer he gets, yet instead of being comforting it instead sparks a growing anxiety like a tsunami preparing to crash down
the only reason Smokescreen still has control is because Unicron is letting him, and he can't forget that for a second

Smokescreen gets along better with Unicron than Megatron does in the DarkEnergon!AU. Comes with being pretty unpretentious about talking to him. Is too busy asking questions about how the shared mental headspace works to be too scared.
Also, Smokescreen has a more chaotic vibe to him than Megatron does. He's honestly a chaos kid. (Maybe has something to do with being one of the last sparks to make it out of the well before it was fully infected by Dark Energon.)
YEAH THATS LITERALLY HOW IT GOES-
Smokescreen already had an extra point in his favor by not trying to control a Literal God, but him being a chaotic little shit adds a few more. Smokey's entire mentality to this whole situation is just "if I don't think about it too hard, nothing is wrong :D (a lot is wrong)"
Unicron in turn is rather intrigued by this strange mortal. He's very firmly on the side of Primus' Chosen which Unicron ofc hates....... but he's also got a bit of a chaotic streak at times on account of his young age and desire to just Have Fun
now, admittedly his bond with Unicron is much more muted than the one he has with Megatron. Megatron is an active presence and voice in his head and they have a very slight hivemind going on. Unicron however is more obscure. A distant, faded but undeniably there being who's lingering in the shadows of Smokescreen's mind (at least until the Post S3 Sillies, but that's not for a while <3)
but also I REALLY like the idea of Smokescreen being slightly "tainted." I've always headcanoned him to be part of one of if not the last batch of sparks, so this idea of possible corruption already being there is perfect and honestly just adds an extra layer of Mental Anguish for the boi when he finds out

do you ever think smokescreen can’t sleep
that he’ll lie down, exhausted from a long day, safe in his room where no harm can get to him, the lights turned dark and everything quiet……
but then will just get this Prickle
that he’ll get this distinct, unshakable feeling there’s something Behind Him
so he sits up. Looks around. Maybe uses a flashlight to double check. But his room is just as empty as it always way.
he is safe here
he lies down
he closes his eyes
but then the feeling is back again, something behind him, something creeping, something that wasn’t there before that wants to hurt him-
but there is no one there
he is tired
he can’t sleep
But no matter how hard he looks or how many times he checks there is no one behind him
he is safe
he does not feel it
he is safe
it’s a lie
he is safe
there’s someone there
he is safe
he is not safe
he does not sleep

so I saw this reblog and decided to combine it with another one from a different reblog chain because they go so well together
Tumblr media
like. A couple months/years or so before everyone else showed up, Smokescreen got wind of some rumors of Ghost Cars and the like, and ended up tracking them down. It's a lot of back and forth for months, since He's An Autobot And They're Decepticons, but there's also a weird....... almost truce going on
Sure he's loyal to the cause and all but well....... Smokescreen's lonely man. It's been several decades at this point, he hasn't fully figured out his holoform, and to make things worse other than Fowler he's got some major trust issues with a majority of the humans he now has to interact with
Knockout and Breakdown may be Decepticons, but they're also Cybertronians, his own species, and he trusts they won't dissect him like a lab experiment
there's a silent understanding that neither Optimus or Megatron are here, or even any other Bots and Cons. Knockout and Breakdown's only mission is to wait for the Decepticon's arrival, and Smokescreen doesn't have a mission at all, so they technically aren't going against orders
so they coexist. Sometimes they talk. Never about the war or the current state of things, but instead an Earth movie that recently came out, or about a racing circuit they found, or about the latest car trends. Hell, maybe down the line Knockout even gives Smokescreen some medical care in return for him pointing them in the direction of a small mine, or Smokescreen warns them about MECH's traps and they in turn warn him about a plague ship that supposedly crashed somewhere on planet
it's tense and they keep each other at arm's reach but..... it's something. Sometimes it's even nice. Sometimes they forget who it is they're talking to and can just...... be happy
But both sides also always knew that someday it would eventually come to an end. That the war would find them and this little charade would end. And it did. They don't hide their past relationship per say but....... well if nobody asked, they weren't going to bring it up
the day Optimus arrives on planet, Smokescreen stops visiting, and three years later when Megatron comes the fighting begins. They're enemies now. They can't help each other
..........at least...... that's what they thought. But then Smokescreen rescues Breakdown from MECH when even the Decepticons weren't going to come for him, and old feelings start to rise up
Breakdown still goes back with the Cons. He can't afford to spare him, not with Bulkhead and Starscream right there, but if he specifically doesn't go after the kid....... well, nobody seems to have noticed
and Breakdown thinks. He talks to Knockout and they talk together. What this means, what they're doing, what's going to happen going forward
and they don't know. But there's a little seed of doubt that's been planted and who knows, maybe that'll change things later :)
so I was thinking about Early Crash and
what if Smokescreen doesn't actually know how long he was in stasis for
Like. He knows he was probably asleep for decent while given how far away he is from Cybertron and how the stars all look completely different, but he doesn't know that he'd been asleep for millions upon millions of years. He doesn't know what's happened to Cybertron or the state of the war or even confirmation that Alpha Trion is dead
and for years, he’s not going to know. He has no real reason to suspect anything or think he was in stasis for longer than a year or two
then the Autobots arrive
and of course, Smokescreen’s absolutely ecstatic when he first hears the rumors about online. More Cybertronians!! More people to talk to!!!! He’s not alone on Earth anymore!!!!!!
the following days are a rush of investigation and scouting as Smokey quite literally scours the planet for his fellow Autobots. Maybe he finds them, maybe he finds some Cons instead, who knows, but after weeks of trying to find them he succeeds
And if course, things only get more complicated from there. Introductions and explanations all happen in a blur amongst near constant meetings with higher ups as Smokey does his best to ensure the other Autobots will be treated well and that the humans understand just how dangerous the Decepticons are as well as preparing possible defenses just in case
Hell, when the truth does come out…… it’s probably going to be an offhand mention in conversation. The Autobots reminiscing about Cybertron, Smokescreen talking about the Archives, both sides realizing that something isn’t quite adding up here
and of course, Smokescreen’s reaction
This fact is already painful for the Autobots. They’ve lived through it and known it for thousands of years, and while it’s painful the pain has dulled slightly
But for Smokey? Who’s been clinging to the hope that someday human tech would advance enough or that Cybertronians would show up on Earth so that he could finally go home???
this is devastating

Yessssssssssss
gods, when Smokescreen learns that he was nearly taken by MECH he's going to FLIP. They've always been a threat, especially because of their spike in activity in recent years, but this was sooooo much closer to disaster then all of those incidents combined
not to mention, this is Bulkhead. One of the Autobots he's arguably closest with. And he nearly lost him to Silas
and for angst....... what if Smokescreen can't bring himself to go at first. With the DNGS it was a hit and run, a transport mission, not....... not this. Not something directly and specifically targetting them with the intent to capture
It terrifies him more than he's willing to say outloud, and based on what they've gathered the Autobots respect his decision. He advises them the best he can and tells them all he knows about how MECH opperates, but that's as far as he goes
..........at least, until Bulkhead decides to join in
because everyone else...... they were in a group. All of Team Prime was traveling together and could watch eachother's backs but Bulkhead was going off alone and Smokey knew exactly how dangerous that could be. And honestly? One of the Autobots going through what he did terrifies him even more than being caught
with Bulkhead's muscle and Smokescreen's insider knowledge, MECH didn't stand a chance, and while Bulkhead works on freeing Breakdown, Smokescreen get everything he can out of the computers before trashing the place
as for Breakdown....... he may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's not an idiot. And I honestly doubt Silas would think to hide the fact this isn't the first robot they've had under their knife and well....... the kid fits the bill
I got two ideas for Early Crash AU. One is fluff and the other is angsty.
Fluff idea: Smokescreen uses a virtual avatar AKA his holoform. He doesn't show it often cause he's trying to lay low here, but since there's the very good possibility that he might be the first VTuber, he gains even more of a following. Maybe this is how Raf starts noticing Smokescreen, wondering how he managed to create a hologram that advanced
Angst idea: Since you brought up the possibility of Fowler not being his first minder, what if it was MECH that first found him when he was wandering around. That's gotta leave some trust issues for your boy
👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
Y E S
it takes a few years for Smokescreen to figure out a passable holoform. He was never an inventor, all he had were his memories from datapads in the Archives and some human tech, but eventually he figured it out. Of course, it takes even longer for him to get it approved, but after many, many, M A N Y trials and tests and jumping through hoops it's official and he's allowed to use it on camera and in public
and it's...... honestly really nice. To finally be "face to face" with his audience so to speak. Even though he doesn't use it much with his podcasts, it's so freeing to finally be able to go into human towns and cities and be able to actually talk with the people. He's been practically starved for interaction so finally being able to go out there and meet the people...... he loves it
maybe this is how he meets Jack and June. Jasper is naturally his "home base" so to speak, and maybe after spending some time around town he ends up meeting and befriending a young Jack
maybe after meeting June, he finally has something of a family again
and BIG OL FUCKING YES FOR THE ANGST AND I THOUGHT OF A WAY TO MAKE IT WORSE
what if Silas was one of his first minders, possibly one of two. I don't have many ideas, but I'm saying they're definitely on the older side of since and completely uninvolved with the MECH stuff
and just. Smokescreen never really liked Leland. Sure he was fine, but there was something about him that just felt..... off. Like the man was taking him apart with his very eyes. Sure human eyes were already weird, they took in light instead of giving off any, but Leland's eyes always felt a bit more calculating and dead and empty then his other minder's
but he brushes off his discomfort. After all, the man hasn't actually done anything and is polite enough when they talk. Besides, what's he even going to say? "Oh your eyes freak me out, can you stop looking at me?" Yeah, no Smokescreen really doesn't want to make himself seen as more of a threat or make things awkward with one of two sentient beings he regularly talks with
and for years, things are fine. The government relaxes, Leland and the other guy do their jobs, when the war's over Smokey even manages to get the higher ups to approve him going on more recreational drives so long as one of his minders was with him. Leland even starts trying to engage with him more and takes him for drives almost every other day!
Smokescreen tries to ignore the way Leland touches the inside of his alt mode, how his eyes light up whenever he changes in front of him, how the words he speak always have some strange undertone he can never pinpoint the meaning of
things are fine. Not good, certainly not great, but fine and Smokescreen is slowly starting to get comfortable
but then things........ change :)
It had started as a normal day. He, Leland and the other minder had just left the base and started their drive. Apparently there was an old mountain pass pretty far out of the way
.........but then Leland puts something on his dashboard
and the next thing Smokescreen knows, he's hit with a shock of electricity and the last thing Smokescreen hears before everything goes dark is a single gunshot
who knows how long it takes them to find Leland and Smokescreen. Days, maybe even weeks, and at the end of it when rescue finally Smokescreen is not left without scars, both physical and psychological. Smokescreen only knows so much about medicine, and most of that is limited to field patches. The humans are limited in their help and the most they can do is provide him with welders. He doesn't even have any painkillers
and psychologically....... ho boy he's going to be a mess. This incident is going to saddle him with some really bad trust issues for a good while, and he's absolutely not going to let anyone into his alt mode for a while, especially with any cargo. In a few years he might let someone in again, but they are going to be in the back seat and far away from the dashboard
also....... Smokescreen's going to be VERY particular about keeping his insides clean from here on out. After all...... he just spent several days at minimum with the blood of someone he trusted inside of him with no way to clean it while being experimented on by another guy he trusted
(maybe Fowler was one of the people on the rescue and can be the one to help Smokescreen clean up. Maybe this even indirectly leads to him being assigned as Smokescreen's new minder)

so I had a silly ✨angst thought ✨ for Early Crash
Smokescreen's first thunderstorm :)
because like. Smokescreen going to have No Fucking Clue what the hell this is. Jasper doesn't see a whole lot of rainstorms, and it's not like the internet existed yet for him to do research. At that point, all his Earth Knowledge was limited to what the handful of humans he'd met had explained to him, and I highly doubt Earth weather patterns came up
so just. Imagine. Maybe it's late in the day and Smokescreen is hanging around with Leland and..... okay I'm spitballing here, but let's just call his other minder....... Henry. Henry Rook.
but yeah, they're chilling, hanging out, maybe talking
and then the first bolt strikes, close and loud enough to be heard through the rock of the silo
and suddenly Smokescreen freezes
He's quiet and perfectly still. Watching. Waiting. Listening.
And when the second sound reaches them, he's already grabbed the two humans and is bolting for the lower levels
because suddenly he's back on Cybertron, back in the Archives, back with Alpha Trion and the Decepticons are at their door step. The building is falling apart around them and there’s blaster fire outside, after all such a loud sound could only be an attack, nothing on Earth could make a sound so loud and he needs to protect the humans. He failed Trion before, got knocked unconscious without even a chance to defend him, he can’t fail again, he can't-
so now Henry and Leland have to figure out how to handle this giant robot they've been watching for a couple years having a flashback and breakdown

AND YEAH THIS TOO
god how awful do you think Trion's gonna feel when he learns what's been going through Smokey's head?
After all......... Smokescreen didn't fail. Not really. He wasn't knocked out because of the Cons, he was knocked out because of Trion
how much do you think that betrayal is going to sting? That the bot who he'd been protecting since his graduation, who he trusted and cared for above all else....... knocked him unconscious and put a relic inside of him
Does he logically know this was the best strategy available at the time? Yes
Does it still hurt? Abso fucking lutely :)
so AU where Smokescreen and Trion managed to escape to Earth together
like. instead of just killing him, the Cons brought Trion aboard the same prison ship Smokescreen was, and when he escaped and was looking around, he found his mentor and set him free as well and they jammed themselves in the same escape pod as best they could because splitting up is basically a death sentence at this point and yeet off to Earth
I'll admit, I'm not 100% sure where this story would go, however I think it would be fun to deal with the possible conflict Smokescreen's loyalty to Trion could bring
cuz like. On one hand, this is the opportunity he’s been wanting for so long. A chance to actually fight instead of being forced to hang back behind everyone else……. But on the other hand, he genuinely does love and respect Alpha Trion, and the thought of abandoning him after everything seems just wrong, plus he’s still technically under orders to defend the guy
I also think it would be fun for Trion to slowly start nudging Smokey to Be Able To Do His Own Thing, only for this to somewhat backfire when the Cons find the base and he decides to bolt through the Groundbridge to rescue Optimus

I am absolutely in love with the Ghost of Darkmount au. It's both so funny and intresting.
So, my thoughts are, what would the autobots's reaction be after they found out the truth? You know, Ratchet obviously finds out first, but it can't be far behind before the rest does too. What are their thoughts, emotions, on the whole thing? Will they be angry at Smokescreen? Will they understand the reason he did it all?
And Smokey himself! I imagine wearing the phase shifter could have some serious side effects, especially now that it's damaged. Imagine him forgetting he's not a 'ghost' anymore and walking into walls or other solid objects constantly lmao
well >:3
Ratchet is absolutely floored by this, but admittedly doesn't have much time to process it in the rush of Hey The Final Battle Is Happening Right Fragging Now And We Don't Have Time To Spare. He makes it VERY clear that they WILL be talking about this later on, no ifs ands or buts, but he does put it on the back burner so they can actually get this plan through
the Autobots also have it pretty rough in terms of reveal since it's just. Right in the middle of them invading the Nemesis
but then when everything calms down........ then things get interesting :3
the emotions everyone feels are definitely complicated to say the very least of it. They're happy Smokescreen's alive! Don't get me wrong there!!! But there's also a BUNCH more they're feeling, especially after the immediate relief fades. You're right in how there's some anger at the secret keeping and tricks, but there's also a little bit of pride at what Smokescreen managed to accomplish, some mild discomfort that the kid did this by himself
However, most of all is...... concern honestly
after all, Smokescreen had been undercover for a long time, and the Autobots aren't blind to the differences, which nicely segues into the other point you brought up :)
Ratchet ends up dragging Smokescreen off to the side to remove the Phase Shifter as soon as he can, and he immediately gives him a check up that...... admittedly doesn't come out super great. Smokescreen hadn't gotten out of the collapsing base completely unscathed, not to mention all the grime and dirt that's been sticking to him for what could possibly be months now
and Smokescreen does have some..... habits
there is as you've mentioned Smokescreen forgetting he's not intangible anymore, and there have been more than a few instances of him walking or even running full speed into objects, walls or even other bots. He's a pretty frequent visitor to the medbay, and it gets bad enough that he starts carrying around a medkit
He's a weird mix of quiet and chatty. He's VERY socially starved and talks with the others whenever he can, but there are also times he forgets that people can see and touch him. The number of times he's been startled by people calling out to him or touching him when he didn't initiate it is more than he can count. There have also been times where he's just....... silently watched the other Autobots talking with a look that could only be described as longing, as if he's forgotten he's allowed to join in
he has an........ interesting relationship with the vehicons and Knockout. It's very tense and awkward, and honestly they're still largely terrified of him because of the months of Spooks. Now, Smokescreen doesn't regret what he did, not by a longshot...... but it does hurt a little bit whenever they whisper about him or flinch when they see him. It's especially bad with Knockout because of all Smokescreen's trips to the medbay
it takes Smokescreen a long time before he refuels with everyone else and recharges in a regular berth. Those habits were among the hardest for him to break. After so long of breaking into storage rooms to steal small portions so he wouldn't get caught and catching quick naps while being paranoid of falling through the airship, it's....... really difficult to adjust
to the Autobots, it's clear that he isn't the same bot as when they last saw him, and it's going to take time before he finds his "normal" again, but they do what they can to act as a support so he knows he doesn't have to be alone

For ghost of darkmount :0
Do any of the other autobots ever get to see Smokescreen as he is, in his injured "ghostly" form??? Even if it's just glimpses in the corners of their eyes or a lingering shadow in the halls of darkmount??
I just think it would be cool for Smokescreen to physically haunt the con, but unintentionally also haunt the bots too
(definitely will not be used in the process of writing the fic.. or will it)
I'm so very glad you asked :)))))
Wheeljack is naturally the first one, since Smokescreen ends up helping break him out. It was his first time actually showing himself to anybody, so he ended up leaning REALLY hard into the persona he'd been crafting. Before that it was mostly stealing things, messing with lights, leaving torn up bloody Vehicon parts in places, etc etc (with the vehicon parts thing, he never actually killed anyone. He found a couple rooms full of spare parts, brutalized them a bit, dipped them in energon, then started leaving them in places he knew they would be found)
as such........ he accidentally leans into it a bit too hard and manages to convince Wheeljack about the whole thing. Now, Jackie is far from supersticious, but...... well, he's not an idiot either and it's very obvious that SOMETHING is going on here and it really, really hates the Cons but for some reason is willing to help him get out
and when he learns about Team Prime's dead rookie...... well, it isn't that much of a stretch. Not compared to what he saw, not compared to how terrified the Cons were
Bumblebee and Arcee are the ones who "meet" him next during the attack on Darkmount. Smokescreen was of course alerted to the attack, and at first he was even going to reveal himself. After all, the Autobots are here, they're okay, I can go home-
he helps them from the shadows of course. He rationalizes it to himself that keeping secret will be more useful, that this way the Cons won't know what hit them........ but the battle is still hard. They almost lose. Hell, they would've lost were it not for Smokescreen overloading some of the important systems
and that's when he realizes...... he's helpful here. In this one battle undercover, he's made more a difference than he ever did before. He was useful, and he wasn't making anyone annoyed or losing relics by getting blindside or putting the humans in danger
Just for a little longer, he promises himself as he sneaks onto the Nemsis. Just until we win
Bumblebee and Arcee of course weren't oblivious to his help. They noticed the way the doors didn't seem to have any locks or how some of their enemies would fall for no reason or how some would let out fearful cries of "THE GHOST!" "IT'S HERE!"
they can't help but think back to what Wheeljack told them, if only for a second
(and if the two of them whispered a thank you and an I'm sorry to the air, well that's nobody's business but their own)
Wheeljack and Ultra Magnus end up encountering the ghost for the third time, however it's very brief. It's right after the pair had "killed" the remaining Predacons (ofc being unaware of the fact that they'd all been moved) and were fighting Predaking. Luckily the fight is much less dangerous than the first time and UM doesn't lose his hand, but Predaking still has to act like he's vengefully angry
however, this time to give the pair a chance to escape, they end up having Smokescreem "distract" Predaking, aka he appears and disappears around the cave and "baits" him away so the other two can escape
then the fourth time. The fourth and final time.
Ratchet when he gets captured.
Now, Smokescreen wrecks absolute HAVOC on the Decepticons because....... well, he thinks they're dead. He thinks that Megatron bombed the base and killed everyone and Ratchet's the only one left
the result? His destructive tendencies skyrocket. He's actively setting fires and explosions, scaring everyone he can, destroying equipment, dragging people into walls, anything he can
and of course, Ratchet is completely spared from this chaos...... but oddly enough so is all the cybermatter experiments. Smokescreen isn't stupid after all, and if the Decepticons could manage to crack the formula? That would quite literally save the planet
of course, he's not planning on letting them go through with it, he's actively sabatoging the Omega Lock construction every way he can. But Ratchet, Shockwave and Knockout are all excluded from the chaos
when Megatron gives Ratchet to Predaking is when things begin to shift
see, Predaking and Smokescreen haven't been sitting on their asses waiting for the Autobots to eventually win, especially not after the Decepticons tried to kill the Predacons. They've been planning
and now that the formula's been finished? They have everything they want from the Decepticons and are ready to burn this place to the ground
and well....... if they're planning to do that, there's no real reason to stay hidden, is there?
and Ratchet.......... well, he was expecting several things when he landed at the feet of the predacon
Rage. Pain. Grief. Maybe even his own death
his dead teammate stepping out from the shadows and expressing that he and the Predacon Who's Apparently On Their Side have a plan?
nowhere on that list

For the future sight Au.
If I'm not wrong, you said the quill is inside Smokescreen's chassis along with the omega key right?
What happened when Knockout scan him to see not just omega key in his chassis but also the quill.
Would the autobots be flipped up?.
Or the quill just cannot be detected- But the Smokescreen's "wait-wasnt-this-happened-before?" saga starting to get more and more caution, and more awareness as more likely he had future vision.
I'LL ADMIT I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THAT-
okay uhhhhhhhhh
hear me out with this: the Omega Key blocked the quill
like. when Trion put the Quill inside, he put it in first then he put in the Omega Key, so the Key was in front of it and ended up obstructing it from view. Knockout was only really interested in the Key
plus, it could be argued that the Quill was much thinner than the Omega Key and would be more difficult to pick up on a scanner
but this also raises the possible Fun that could come with the Quill getting sorta. Jostled around the bit after Knockout removed the Key. After all, he was FAR from gentle with it
so now ontop of having some gradually growing anxiousness about his day to day life, he also has to deal with gradually worsening pain in his chest :D
