The Homecoming Club; Chapter 1
November, 1st, 2018.
βPeter, cβmon! Donβt make come there!β I can hear May screams from the kitcheen while I take my backpack nΒ° 5, I really should start hiding it on a better place.
βIβm coming already.β
βI should be mad at you, but Iβm not. But I swear, this better be the last time you go to school on a Saturday morning for detention. Okay?β she kisses my forehead as a goodbye; she can be really sweet during an ear bashing.
On my way to school, I check if Ned is coming already. But he takes a long time to answer me; he is probably sleeping, yet.
βMy mom is dropping me right now.β After I read the message, Ned is already by my side on the stairs.
We were supposed to be in the library exactly at 8am, we are on time. Weβre actually earlier and apparently, weβre not the only ones. βMichelle is here.β Ned whispers to me. Yeah, dude. I noticed.
We sit on the same big table as MJ, specifically in front of her.
βGood morning.β I said trying to βmaybe- start a conversation but she just gives me a small smile. I can tell that smile is progress; Michelle has not talk to me for two whole days since Iβve left her house for no reason when we would binge-watch Disneyβs movies. In my defense, I do have a good reason but she canβt actually know. Her and Ned were talking about their English Project for next week when Betty came in the room.
βBetty? Are you actually on detention?β Ned asks really surprised. To be honest, weβre all surprised about it.
βDonβt even get me started, itβs all I can hear it about at home.β She takes her books and notes. βI just want to spend these whole hours doing my homework and my projects. At least, here Iβll be focused.β
βWhoa, what did you do to be here?β I ask.
βThis is like asking people what they did to be in prison, Peter.β Is MJ making fun of me again? Ned and Betty laugh about it and she can take a smile from me because Iβve missed her during this two days she ignored me. Even her jokes.
βAre you out there committing crimes, Michelle Jones?β She gives me her judgment look, the same she gave me on Chemistry class, like she could see through my soul. She softly opens up her mouth.
βOkay, good morning you little punks!β The principal screams loud enough to makes us jump a little on our chairs βItβs 8am and I see you are punctual, at least.β He counts how many of us are in the room and huffed about it.
βIs there something wrong, Mr. Vernon?β Flash mocks him and sit right in front of the principal, putting his feet on the table and having all of us rolling our eyes.
βOh greatβ¦β Ned lays his head over his arms, today is going to be a very long day.
βDo we have some problem, big guy?β turns his head on Nedβs direction.
βLeave him alone, Flash.β Betty gives him the worst look Iβve never seen on Bettyβs face.
βOr what, princess?β
βJust shut the fuck up.β Time to stand up.
βNo one here was talking to you, Penis Parker.β
The principal makes us jump on our chairs one more time after he hits the table with such strength. He starts giving a long speech with boring lessons about life and how we were here for different reasons, almost making the five of us fall asleep easily.
I guess none of them are for the same reason as me.

One day ago.
βI need you to cause a distraction.β Whisper to Ned, if it Mr. Wilson catch me skipping class I would be screwed.
βOh no, again? Everybody still makes fun about me after the βWeβre all gonna dieβ. Someone recorded, Peter!β
Ned really got some fame because of the video, but it is really funny.
βPlease, youβre my guy on the chair.β Puppy face mode on, it actually works better with Ned than it works with Michelle. βDo it fast.β
βFine!β he walks up to the Michelleβs table and they start talking about something I canβt actually understand. Suddenly Michelleβs experiment kinda explodes and it makes Mr. Wilson and run over there. Ned is really good at causing a distraction.
All the eyes were on them when I was sneaking out of the class, except for Michelle who looked at me squinting. I donβt have time right now, duty calls me.
Run over the hall as faster as I can and jump over the stairs. Oh, damn!
βNot skipping classes anymore. Great jump, by the way, pretty impressive. β Vernon had to be there like, that exactly minute? βOh, I guess you already expect that but, detention Saturday morning. See you there.β
-
βLetβs get the work started. Get your young asses to the gymnasium.β We all look at each other trying to understand what is he talking about.
βGymnasium?β Betty asks.
βYes, you will organize the Homecomingβs decoration. Cβmon.β
βWhat? The Homecoming is literally today!β
βSo itβs better for you to start soon. Chap, Chap!β He looks at his on clock. βYouβll be free to go when everything is done. And donβt forget, I have my both eyes on you.β
