“I remember a bunch of guys with hair down their backs. They looked ridiculous. We were all laughing. One of them [Mick], instead of going upstairs, picked up a guitar and started jamming with us and it would have worked except for the hair.” - Glen Matlock, Passion Is a Fashion
a great article by yours truly about that one time Mick Jones of The Clash nearly joined the Sex Pistols...and some times he played with ex-Pistols as well!

You know, at one point I did consider covering Ram Ranch for Odd Tracks but that changed after finding out what the fucking is going on with the singer. Like...what the actual fuck???

Remembered what I was going to post on here before being sidetracked. So I won't be reviewing more of Disturbed's works which was something I did think about since late last year. The reason why is because lead singer, David Draiman, supports Israel. The point of Album Showcase is meant to well promote music and encourage people to support the artist. I am not comfortable doing another album showcase on the band with that information coming to light. Especially with everything that has been happening to Palestine. I was going to review the rest of their work with Asylum being the next Disturbed album I covered but not anymore.
I am debating on whether to take down or make an edit update on my review of Disturbed's The Sickness.

But in relation to Napoleon XIV song it made have the thought of "Could I ever review any of the work by STALAGGH/Gulaggh?" since the first album of the band did use vocals from several patients from a mental institution and over 30 children from a youth mental institution. Though covering that band would be rough because information surrounding them is limited. Not helped that the site The Weirdest Band in the World, how I first heard about them, is gone which was a great starting point on research. But also how the fuck would I write about them because of the subject matter tied to the band itself is super heavy? If I ever do a review of the band's work it won't be for a long time.

I genuinely forgot I did a review of Napoleon XIV's They’re Coming to Take Me Away Ha! Haa!...
Looking back it is not my best writing since I only did light research and not the deeper stuff I do now. For example this article that was published March of 2023 does talk a bit how he willingly checked himself to a mental asylum which that info came from 1998's The Inquirer which this information would have actually been useful for my review. Now yes I only found this out because someone pointed it out to me which like yeah I missed that info and yes I should have done deeper research on the artist himself. I know my song reviews are more focused on the individual track itself and are less deep dive oriented compared to my album reviews. But with that in mind I may consider doing a proper review of one of his albums but that won't be for awhile based on the fact I am backlogged as is.
Has my opinion changed on the song since then? Well my opinion on the song at the time was that "It exists" and now it is that "Oh yeah, this exists". The technical side behind the song is still the most impressive part about it. The sequel songs for it though I still don't care for.

sometimes i think about how disco music was trashed, hated, reviled, and lobbied against in the 70's, even yielding the famous "disco demolition night" where people just showed up to a sports stadium and destroyed disco records. i think about how it was a genre that was pioneered, dominated by, and celebrated by the black community in america, especially the queer members. so much hatred, so much pushback. i even just watched the 2022 minions movie and one of the punchlines was torturing someone by making them listen to disco constantly. it's that stigmatized yeah.
and then daft punk, two cishet white boys, make a disco record "random access memories" and it becomes one of the best selling albums of all time. idk how fair it all is.

it's spotify wrapped season again and you know what that means! time to plug that wrapped playlist into hype machine's merch table tool and see if it turns up any bandcamp links where you can directly support your favorite artists of 2023! the tool is definitely not perfect or infallible, but it's a great start if you want to start compensating the artists whose music meant the most to you this year at a rate higher than the peanuts they got from your spotify streams!

Spotify wrapped is normally released on a November 30 or December 1 but this year it was released on November 29, the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People- a day which it was asked for people to increase their social media posts about Palestine to help call for a permanent ceasefire. Instead it is now being overshadowed by people posting about Spotify wrapped…

At one point I considered reviewing Panic! At the Disco's album Pretty. Odd. HOWEVER, despite the fact all the songs could easily play on my laptop my phone just wasn't having it. Some songs would play but others would play for a bit but begin tripping over itself or just skip entirely. I took this as a sign not to bother reviewing the album or Panic's other works.
