A fun workshop with my younger French language learners today, specifically about la bande dessinée franco-belge (French and Belgian comics) and who better to be the main subject of today's session than the Belgian icons, Tintin et Milou!
I'm delighted to receive a booking as host for an exclusive viewing of the documentary, A Disturbance In The Force, How the Star Wars Holiday Special happened, this coming December 2, at the Palace Nova Eastend Cinema.
I invite you to join me along with Adelaide's Star Wars aficionados for an event that will surely be spectacular, with prizes from the event sponsors awarded during the evening!
I'll discuss the franchise's influence on global society and delve into a selection of the 70-plus languages constructed for Star Wars from its inception to the present day.
Special thanks to Joanna Hassam, the illustrator of my bilingual storybook, The Adventures of Paris of Freddie, for this beautiful clip creating one of my panel scenes!
The Adventures of Paris and Freddie is an exciting bilingual storybook adventure in French and English, including Auslan (Australian sign language), set in the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia, and arranged for release in hardcover this coming summer, 2023/24.
The text is suitable for year 5 through adult language students.
It's a magical experience to see one's imagination come to life!
Are you attending an event in your city commemorating Bastille Day?
If you're in Adelaide, I look forward to bumping into you for a fun conversation should we cross paths at the Adelaide Central Market during their French-themed activities Friday and Saturday!
The first Saturday in May is Free Comic Book Day, everyone, a global initiative celebrating literature, and here in Adelaide, during a tour of Adelaide's comic book stores, I spoke at Greenlight Comics about comic books being a powerful medium for relaying a political or social message to a readership of any age and their influence on global society, specifically in the second language classroom using my work with students studying French language and culture learning about la bande dessinée franco-belge as an example.
It was a fun day to be sure engaging with the greater Adelaide community and of course, increasing one's collection of resource material!
