in which … a blind date for $20 was too good to be true. it was certainly true … but there’s a catch.

“this is awkward.”

you really didn’t know what you did to the world to put you in this situation. but honestly your friend is to blame. a blind date for $20 wasn’t bad, depending on the date. but this one…

yeah it was probably worth $1,000.

this doesn’t count as a blind date though, right? a blind date, by definition, is a date with a person one has not previously met. however, you certainly knew the person sitting right in front of you. blind date or not, you would never want to go on a date with this man. actually, you didn’t want to see him in general.

a date with him could’ve been better years ago. key word, could’ve. until he rejected you with a, “no thank you.” you couldn’t bear showing your face ever again. and you made sure of that up until now. being rejected by someone is one thing.

being rejected by suna rintaro was another.

seeing suna was the last thing you ever wanted and expected. you’re positive he thinks the same. maybe. even if you guys were polar opposites—and probably still are— great minds think alike? you being the greatest mind of all, of course.

jokes aside, he definitely doesn’t want to see you. not only did you avoid him, but he avoided you too… which avoiding the avoider was a complete waste of time. you are the greatest mind of all.

“i don’t see why.” suna continued, “we’re friends we should be able to talk.”

friendzoned?? on a (blind) date?? well, its not like its an actual date— no it’s supposed to be an actual thing. but if suna doesn’t see it as more than a little catch-up, then you probably should too. even if it did hurt just a smidge.

“right. uh— so… do you still play volleyball?” you couldn’t help the little disappointment in your voice, and you utterly hate yourself for it.

“if you want this to be an actual date, it can be.”

“huh?” was he able to tell what how you were feeling just by the slight tone of your voice? this isn’t considered a second chance, right? hopefully not, because all alarms go off at second chances.

“this is a date to me. is it a date to you?”

you didn’t know how to respond, but the words you are about to say are the same ones that always jog your memory. “no thank you.”

suna squints at you. “are you mocking me?”

“where’d you get that from?”

“i said that when i rejected you in highschool.”

he remembers? “you remember?”

suna seemed taken aback, as if he didn’t mean to say that. he blinked a few times before he cleared his throat. “i didn’t mean to say that.”

“say what?”

“looks like someone’s still an idiot.” he turned his head to the side, trying to stop a smile that threatened to appear on his face. while he found this amusing, you were absolutely furious.

who does he think he is to ignore you for all these years? who does he think he is to be so casual after some incident? who does he think he is to just change topic when he doesn’t like it? “who do you think you are to show up on this date and warm my heart years after breaking it!” oh shit. the wrong words came out.

suna’s eyes widened for a second, but he quickly recovered to the blank expression he usually wears. “i’m your blind date.” he ever so bluntly says.

at this point, you guys already have eyes on the two of you. a young couple bickering at a table dead center of a fancy restaurant. really puts you guys on the spot, doesn’t it? quite literally the center of attention.

“why did you avoid me for all these years?”

“i got rejected with a ‘no thank you,’ why wouldn’t i?”

“like i said, i didn’t mean to say that.”

oh. so that’s what he meant? he didn’t mean to give you a “no thank you,” but he probably meant to give you something more merciful? that really doesn’t help it. “so what did you mean to say? yes thank you?”

“uh… well yeah.” suna deadpans.

your jaw is on the floor.

“and don’t even get mad. you’re the one who avoided me and didn’t let me talk to you.” he added. okay, well now you’re super ticked off. at him for being right… and at yourself for being a real idiot.

“you’re a jerk you know.”

“says you. you told me you loved me and i never saw you again.”

“for a reason.” you huffed and crossed your arms as you turned your head away from him. but super stubborn you wanted to keep looking at him, so you slighty turned your head to look at suna, who had a small smile on his face.

he couldn’t help but let it through. he missed this. he missed you. and maybe you did too… just to an extent. suna knew your morals. there’s no such thing as second chances— even for him. there’s forgiving— but never forgetting. as long as you stop avoiding him, he’ll be fine without a second chance and remembering what happened on that day.

also… it was kind of funny to him. of course he wouldn’t tell you that though, or else you’d get even more mad.

“so is this a date?”

“yeah… sure.”

“what’s the magic word?” he teased. you stared blankly at him. who does this man really think he is? seriously this time.

“please?” you answered.

“nope!”

your eye twitched. “i’m not gonna say it.”

“fine. but can you ask me then? you’re kinda hurting my ego right now.”

you rolled your eyes at him. you couldn’t help but smile as you rested your cheek on your hand. sighing, you spoke. “is this a date, my darling rintaro?”

“yes thank you, my beloved [y/n].”

“i hate you.”

“no you don’t. you should love me because i love you.” he confessed. wasn’t that quite romantic of him! …despite his monotone voice.

“yeah… no thank you.”

some place elsewhere (specifically 2 tables away):

“we did it ‘tsumu!!” your friend cheered. the two idiots high fived each other.

“now that suna’s plan went accordingly, he owes us $20.”

“yeah! we can use that for our [y/n] bribe money fund.”

“what? i thought we already collected that.” atsumu questioned.

“‘tsumu… we pooled 7 bucks total. but we can tell sunarin that we raised the price of our service. then technically we’ll have profit!”

“YEAH PROFIT!”
