I FUCKING KNEW IT! THE LAB WAS TOTALLY INVOLVED WITH THE CREEL MURDERS!

WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHY VICTOR CREEL WAS APPARENTLY FOUND WANDERING ALONG THE HIGHWAY THE MORNING AFTER THE CREEL MURDERS. WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHY HE DOESNT MENTION THAT. THIS HAS BRENNER AND LAB FUCKERY WRITTEN ALL OVER IT!!!!!!!

This part of the article, as far as I can tell, reads:

“The bodies were discovered early Sunday morning, after Creel was found wandering aimlessly along the side of Highway 49, south of Hawkins.  Deputy (name here bc i cant quite read it)  from Hawkins police department intercepted Creel and made the discovery upon returning him home.” 

I’m telling you guys- that shot in Henry’s memories that Nancy sees of “victor” holding Henry the EXACT same way that Brenner holds El WAS BRENNER, Henry’s memories have been messed with. And so have Victor’s.

i hate to bug you but you seem like the resident henry expert so i was wondering if you had any thoughts about why henry’s art style changed? i used to think it had to mean the mf was influencing henry all the way back when he first moved but im not so sure about that now and you seem to know Many Things

NABDHAVDBSHDHD HENRY EXPERT 🥲 hardly,, I rely on the unholycule ( @magentamee and @heroesbyler ) so much for help theory-fleshing 😭 they’re resident Henry experts too!!

I see the changes in Henry’s art more as an outward visual sign of his deteriorating mental state as a result of of the abuse he’s suffering.

Children often display symptoms of trauma through art and art style changes. A child may go from drawing flowers to drawing terrifying portraits after experiencing something bad, and it’s often one of the first outward signs that something has gone bad in their life (whether that be abuse, neglect, or mental illness).

Seeing as he was being abused but both his mother and later Brenner and obviously had some underlying mental health issues, I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch. I think with the addition of Brenner/Virginia trying to “fix” him, that changed his art style to something more undefined and violent, as with many children suffering from abuse and/or mental illness.

We see a similar pattern in Will, going from drawing Will the Wise to drawing Zombie Boy. One art style is relatively refined, meant to look nice, and represents him in a positive light. He experiences trauma unrelated to the Mindflayer (as it exists as an eldritch abomination), and it changes his art to something more ragged that paints him in a negative light.

Since Henry and Will are meant to be parallels/foils, it would logically follow that that was the case for Henry.

I don’t necessarily think it’s the Mindflayer as a being influencing Henry, because we don’t see the Mindflayer being able to reach through to influence people until a gate is opened by a third party, but then again I’m not the third Duffer brother so I can’t say for certain.

It is funky that both of them would draw the Mindflayer, but I think that happens in order to exemplify the cycle the Duffers want us to pick up on.

I think Henry’s Mindflayer drawing was a representation of his abuse, as if he was trying to give it a form, something he could visually identify, a way to put his abuse on paper in a way that made sense to him. Thus, when he has to face the Mindflayer, has to acknowledge his trauma, he shapes it into that figure, which represents him turning his childhood abuse into a weapon he can use against others.

For Will, it seems more like him a) directly seeing the Mindflayer (ofc), but also b) suffering abuse at Henry’s hands via Henry’s weaponized childhood trauma and putting that experience down on paper in a way that makes sense to him

Thus: highlighted cycle! Will’s family notices the change in his art, and helps him through his trauma by loving and supporting him in a way Henry’s didn’t, breaking the cycle of neglect! (we love that repetitive trope fr)

Also I’d like to add that I find the name choice very interesting. Childhood trauma and abuse can literally “flay” someone’s mind and damage/break them mentally. Having the creature meant to represent that be the Mindflayer, well…*Will voice* it’s a bit on the nose…

the “sheet” over henry’s body when victor gets arrested isnt a sheet at all

It’s a straitjacket.

Look at how Henry’s face is uncovered but we cant see his tie or his hands and his arms are across his chest- he’s definitely wearing a fucking straitjacket. I thought it was weird that his face was uncovered because usually when they cover dead bodies with sheets, they cover the face too- but heavy a.) wasnt dead and b.) didnt have his face covered.

And look at this line from Henry:

They even shot this scene in a way where Henry’s standing overlaid across the part of the foyer where he was wearing the straitjacket during Victor’s arrest.

And look at what tape Eddie holds up DURING THIS SEQUENCE of Nancy watching the memories:

Henry freaked out that night when Brenner and co showed up- he likely shattered the windows with his mind during this, much like El in the cabin, and was forcibly sedated/put into a medically induced coma and restrained via straitjacket.

“No Longer Will”

After his experience in the Upside Down, Will is no longer completely Will.

In season two, Mr. Clarke gives a lesson on Phineus Gage who, after a freak accident where a pole went through his brain, became known as “No Longer Gage.” The focus is on Will during this scene.

(I should mention that the camera rack focuses to Max during this scene. What that implies for Max I’m not sure. Possible foreshadowing of being taken by Vecna and becoming “No Longer Max?”)

This is used as a metaphor for how Will’s life forever changed once he came back. His trauma transformed him. He can never go back to the Will he was before.

Will continues to be associated with imagery of rods splitting him in half.

But this is also a show that often explores mental illness and trauma through the lens of the supernatural, so I have a hunch that there might be a more literal interpretation than just that.

We learn from season four that with everyone Vecna kills, he takes everything from them. He keeps their souls in his mind.

This is why El can’t find Max in her mind. Because she momentarily died, her soul is in Vecna’s mind.

Will also died in the Upside Down. And Vecna killed him.

BUT he was brought back to life.

But so was Max, and yet her entire soul is gone while Will’s still seems to be intact.

UNLESS, Will’s entire soul actually is not there, only half of it is. He is “No Longer Will.”

(Maybe this only works with psychic deaths, BUT Vecna did kill him using the hivemind that he is psychically linked to)

We know that Vecna and Will have some sort of connection, but is isn’t made totally clear what exactly that connection is. Pieces of the Mind Flayer still stuck inside Will? Perhaps. But maybe this is the reason why, kinda like a reverse Horcrux. It’s not Vecna who has attached a part of himself to Will, but Will who has a part of him attached to Vecna. Maybe whenever he senses Vecna nearby, he is actually sensing that bit of him thats stuck inside?

Maybe this is his NINA, maybe this part of him has his memories of the Upside Down. Maybe this part of him remembers something else that Will does not. Maybe this part of him possesses power that Will currently does not have.

Maybe this is what his coming of age is about, finding that part of him that was lost in the Upside Down so that he can become whole.

YEP! THE CREEL MURDERS HAPPENED ON SUNDAY MARCH 22nd/THE NIGHT OF SATURDAY MARCH 21ST! Just like i talked about in this post.

How do i know this? Well.

“Local family man, Victor Creel, murdered his wife and two small children Saturday night.”

And now look at the date on this paper- Thursday, March 26th. Making that previous Saturday having been March 21st, and the bodies were discovered on Sunday, march 22nd.

The same March 22nd as Will’s birthday. This explains why Henry would want to erase that day- it was the day where shit hit the fan in his life.

i know why will’s birthday is important to henry: birthdaygate analysis

One of the big questions i see with birthdaygate is WHY. WHY would henry do this? I think I know why. So, why is will’s birthday important to Henry? Well, because it’s the same date as the Creel murders/Henry going to the lab. Look at the newspaper below- It’s dated March 26th, 1959, and this was reported AFTER the murders occurred and Victor was at trial, so the murders occurred prior to the 26th, but not very long prior- likely four days/the night of the 21st and then news broke the 22nd. 

Why would henry want to erase that day? Because that was the night that resulted in him going to the lab, that was his first night at the lab, that was the day where the most horrible things in his life started to happen- he’s trying to bend time, change it, reshape the world. It’s the EXACT sort of day he’d want to erase out of existence.

And when did the murders in Hawkins start in S4? March 21st. The night of March 21st. I think that the night of March 21st was the Creel murders, and that the next day (Will’s birthday) was Henry’s first day at the lab. Hence why Henry would want to erase the night of the 21st/Will’s birthday- midnight on the 21st going into the 22nd would’ve been the Creel murders and the EXACT timing of when Henry was taken to the lab. It would have been the 22nd when he was at the lab.  Of course he wants to erase this day. And this may very well tie into WHY he went after Will in S1, I’m not sure how it ties together yet, but there’s something rattling in my brain.

“mother is god in the eyes of a child,”/“i can see your sin as clearly as god can”/“if i only could, i’d make a deal with god,” and why alice creel was the angel in the creel house and why virginia killed her.

I’m still working on my ST-Silent Hill analysis, but there’s a line in the Silent Hill movie (which has VERY BLATANT parallels to ST & Silent Hill is a confirmed inspo for ST) that I want to talk about right now:

“mother is god in the eyes of a child ”

 Long story short, the character who says this line, Dahlia Gillespie,  is extremely Virginia coded. But why is it relevant? Well, for the sake of this post, it’s relevant because it also aligns with something in Carrie (and the mother in Carrie is very Virginia coded too and there’s a TON of confirmed Carrie parallels in ST): 

“Don’t you know by now, Carrie? I can see inside you. I can see your sin as clearly as God can.”

Carrie’s mother talks about how she can see into Carrie’s mind as clearly as god can (which ties into my theories about Virginia being able to reach into Henry’s mind but that’s a whole other post).

So, we’ve got TWO separate pieces of media that inspired ST/that ST references that both have a Virginia-coded mother talking about how mothers = god. Now, let’s look at another reference to god- “Running Up That Hill”.
