"A bit thin in the aether, but there's no mistaking it—the color of its soul is almost identical to Azem's." "The two of us can discern the color of souls, you see, and yours happens to resemble that of a friend."

Lmao no need to apologize! I get it, I'm much the same xD
If tis lore you desire, then tis lore you shall get:
SO. Walk with me to the Thirteenth for a moment, during the era of the Contramemoria before the Flood of Darkness. There's a bun there whose name is Einarr Odysseus. He's a memoriate, and he's the shard of Azem who resides in the 13th. Viera (or whatever Viera may have been called in the 13th) having the long lifespans they do, Einarr was alive and fighting from as early as when the first eidolons began appearing all the way until the Flood of Darkness consumes the world. He's not saved from the Flood, his body is warped by Darkness and he turns into a voidsent.
Flash forward to the Fifth Astral Era of the Source when the War of the Magi is raging. Black mages summon voidsent to the Source in order to do their bidding and fighting in the war. The voidsent that was once Einarr is summoned during this time. Bound by the magicks of the mage who summoned him, he answers the call, he fights, he falls. Being in the Source, his soul is drawn into the Lifestream. Within the madness of the Sixth Umbral Calamity, as the shard from whichever world was rejoined merges with the soul of Azem in the Source, Einarr's soul, the shard from the 13th, is drawn in and merges with it as well.
Having been completely corrupted by Darkness, however, leaves a permanent change upon that shard that seeps into the rest of Azem's soul in the Source. When Phoenyx is born, his aetheric balance is naturally tipped towards Darkness. In fact, trying to tip it away from its Dark-aspected nature leaves him unbalanced and unstable.
Now flash forward with me once again to Heavensward. When Phoenyx finds Fray's body and soul crystal and Fray tells him there's a darkness growing in him, he's unknowingly speaking of this very thing. Sure, this is already a part of dark knights, using their own internal "darkness," meaning their negative emotions (or strong positive ones when you get around to post-level 50 and its a strong sense of love and protectiveness that fuels it) to create dark energy woven of their own aether. But for Phoenyx it's rather more literal. His aether is Dark-aspected. So rather than creating this energy, it's closer to the kind of aethetic manipulation that black mages use with elemental forces (which, in part too is why he could harness dark knight so easily, because he already has a background in "dark magic"). He uses his emotions to fuel his ability to manipulate primordial Darkness. The kind of Darkness controlled by the Ascians, the kind of Darkness that Zodiark himself is woven of.
So while Phoenyx is the Warrior of Light, Hydaelyn's chosen, protected by Light, as a dark knight, he actively uses Darkness in weaving the spells associated with the art. He doesn't even realize he's doing this. By the time he understands his Echo ability to sense his own aetheric balance, he assumes its tip towards Darkness is because he's a dark knight, a conclusion Y'shtola comes to as well. But he doesn't realize that its actually the selfsame force that the enemy uses against them. That in being Hydaelyn's "Bringer of Light" while having a soul seeped in Darkness, he is a living manifestation of the balance of the star.
This is also why he's so strong against sin eaters and Lightwardens in the First, why he's able to stay somewhat stable with all that Light inside him until the fourth Warden. But it's also the reason he's so fucking terrified of turning into a Lightwarden. Because even if you put aside the implications of what that dooms the world and his loved ones to, there's just this deep seated memory of Einarr's that's etched into his soul. The memory of being corrupted by Darkness and turning into a voidsent. The powerlessness and agony that came with it. He's scared because he remembers what it feels like and never wants to go through that again. But Phoenyx doesn't consciously realize this, it's a trauma burned into his soul.
This,,,,,,,,,,,,, ended up being way longer than I intended but please share yours also!!!! I wanna hear your lore!

So your into post lists Orias as a Co-Warrior of Light and so I'm curious, what is Ki'to and Orias's dynamic as co-WoLs? I love to see how people separate who goes through which events or how they go through them together.
Technically speaking, I wrote "Co-" there since she's the alt I'm replaying the story with, but now you got the brain cogs working and I need to expound upon this because they'd absolutely be able to work in tandem.
I can only really speak for Ori up until mid-SB, but even then it'd be an interesting team.
A Sharlayan Cultural Historian and a Fresh-faced Moon Keeper walk into a bar- A joke, but not entirely untrue.
It's likely they came to the Carline Canopy around the same time. Orias would have been the one on the carriage, as Ki'to entered from the North Shroud. They would have paid the other no real mind other than pleasantries, but since they both started as archers, they would have had something to bond over. Like as not, they probably worked through most of those quests together, only really diverging once Ki'to picked up Pugilist in Ul'dah while they traveled as envoys.
After that fork in their paths, they'd likely have stayed as a group, helping with the problems that cropped up, taking on dungeons together, etc. Then when it came to primal slaying they'd do that together as well. By the end of ARR, they were probably the best of friends, honestly.
Ori likely comforted Ki'to when Raha was left in the Crystal Tower, and likewise, he'd likely comfort her when Thancred passes tf out later on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I could go on, but these two would absolutely mirror each other by EW. So in-tune with each other that they probably wouldn't even have to look at each other and still be in sync.
(Hell even the color palettes I use for them are opposing. Bright whites, yellows, & golds for Ori, and Dark blacks, purples, & golds for Ki'to. The gold is the only tie-together.)
Also, the sass levels if these two were in the same room? Palpable. Absolute gremlins, the both of them.
I might just weave their canons together now. Thank you for the brainworms.

“Do you regret it?” (Solus/Valeria)
[Ask prompts here! I'm so excited, this is my first ask for Valeria, I hope you like it!]
Valeria lay curled up on their plush chair before the fireplace, book in hand but not reading it as she stared pensively into the flames, lost in thought. She had long since gotten used to her husband returning late from his many meetings and duties, but rather than going to bed without him as he always insisted, she waited. Going to sleep without him always felt like she would wake the next day to it all having been a dream, and now she was back in her wretched family's attic with her stepmother screaming up that breakfast should have been ready by now. No, she didn't need those nightmares. So she waited.
She had just started to doze, curled up on the chair with her head on the arm, when she heard familiar, unhurried footsteps outside. A moment later the door to their sitting room creaked open slowly, as if he was trying not to wake her. Foolish, she always woke when he finally came to join her, if she had slept at all. At this point it felt more like a dance, just their way of greeting each other after a long day apart.
"Still awake, I see," Solus said, as if it were a surprise, as he removed his coat, leaving him in just his shirtsleeves and trousers. "How was your day, dearest?" Valeria stretched, sitting back up properly in her chair.
"Hmmm, better now that you're here," she gave a smile, gathering her dressing gown around her. He crossed their sitting room, taking one hand and planting a kiss on the back. Valeria couldn't help the heat in her face; the woman could be taken from the common citizenry but the mindset could never quite be gotten rid of. At least she wasn't quite as flustered as when they first met, the emperor of the entire country treating her like the height of royalty when she wasn't even meant to be there.
"Glad to be of service," he gave her a little crooked smile before settling on the couch, and for a while they sat in comfortable silence.
Well, almost comfortable.
Valeria dropped her book, and as she bent to get it she let her golden hair fall in her face, hiding her but not completely blocking her vision. She glanced up at her husband, and there it was. The reason she felt so pensive tonight.
For quite some time now, she noticed that any time he thought he wasn't being watched, he looked at her with a horribly sorrowful expression. It was hard to catch, and disappeared as fast as she noticed it, but she knew for sure he was hiding something from her. She settled back in her chair and thought for a long moment.
"Do you regret it?" she broached the silence, swallowing her nerves. She felt him staring at her.
"I'm sorry?"
"Do you regret it?" she repeated, meeting his bright yellow gaze. "Marrying me? A... commoner? Someone of no importance?" He frowned at her.
"Where is this coming from?"
"I see how you look at me when you think I'm not looking. You appear so sad, so I couldn't help but wonder..." she trailed off, glancing away and fidgeting with her hands. Another few moments of silence.
"Come here, my dear," he held one arm out to her, and she crossed over to him, sliding onto the sofa and into his side. He wrapped his arm around her comfortingly.
"I don't regret us, not for a moment," he tilted her face toward him gently as he spoke. "There's no one I'd rather have as my empress." She searched his face for a lie that wasn't there.
"Then why...?"
"Because I want more for you." She couldn't help the small giggle at his words.
"More? We're already royalty, in a powerful country. I have an entire palace, the best food money can buy, all the assistance I could ask for, for anything I might need, what else could I ever ask for?"
"A better world," he clarified, resting his cheek on her head. "One where there are no wars, where all nations are one, working together. One of peace." Valeria sighed, leaning more fully on his shoulder.
"Sounds like a dream," she mumbled.
"I don't think it has to be," he countered, and she felt like he was still holding something back. But before she could press more, he stood, crossed to their imported orchestrion, and put on a quiet piano piece. He turned back to her with a soft smile.
"Dance with me?" She snorted, but stood anyways, taking his hand.
"You," she accused as they swayed in a slow circle, no thought put into the steps, "are trying to distract me." He kissed her forehead, just above her third eye, and she could feel his amused grin.
"Is it working?"
"A little."
With one finger under her chin, he tilted her head back to capture her lips in a kiss, and Valeria melted into it, her hands clenching in his shirt. He nipped at her lower lip, and she let out a quiet whimper. He took her by one hand and broke away, leading her back towards their bedchambers.
"I think," his voice had dropped lower, holding her gaze as he walked backwards. "It's time for us to retire for the eve." Valeria couldn't help the girlish giggle or the blush on her cheeks as she stumbled eagerly after him.
"I was just thinking the same thing."

mega punch — has your muse ever punched something/someone? did they break anything (ie a wall, a nose) or just hurt their hand?
Minthe would say that she's too elegant to punch things. Her preferred method of violence is with magic :3.

Last little lore nugget before I get on for the day.
I accidentally made Nanari Azem-coded through liberal use of orange vfx (a color I heavily associate with Azem for obvious reasons), so after I decided to give him the soulstone necklace (which he just kinda... found in his pocket one morning before setting out for the day), I ended up spreading that to his carbuncles as well.
Originally he had Opal and Obsidion, but I've changed Obsidion to Amethyst. So his summoned traveling companions when he's a SMN, through the unintentional use of the soulstone, are white and purple carbies. :3c
Why give him the soulstone now, you might ask? You really gonna tell me Hades didn't take one look at this traveling man, especially being so good at seeing souls, and go "Yeah, no, that's Azem..."
Tbh, I just really liked how it tied together his outfit so I'm bullshitting an excuse. xD

literally nothing but pure and unresolved hatred rested in althaea's heart to the very end. and she really did mean it because tock has a deep and empty void of apathy towards emet even when he waxes about having a heart that can break too. the gap between those two simply never closed and tock never once felt bad for emet because deep down althaea was still in there screaming and fighting against him and his sadness. if she had her way she would grab emet by rhe head and throw him against a rock until nothing was left besides the hair held in her hands

completely apropos of nothing (I was literally just idly watching tiktoks idk where this came from) my brain downloaded the concept that Ishan is a heartbreakingly good singer and he most often gets hired for funerals because he's just got that kind of voice
and, like, of course he does. he'd been in the lifestream mourning a lost world so loudly and passionately that it kept his soul intact for [duration/sensation of time that cannot be measured] before he magically crash-landed on the Source
of course he's a dirgesinger
