I will say this was probably the best doctors visit not only because my body actually presented symptoms for the tests but because the doctor was genuinely invested in finding a solution.

His entire attitude screamed that he loves his job and is extremely passionate about heart health/ science/ illness. He was thorough with his questions, clarified details and ensured he fully properly understood each symptom/ frequency/ scenario. Every time he started talking about a potential route to take his whole demeanour would light up with this delightful spirit and childlike excitement like “we can do this! Or this! Or this is a really cool new thing! Or this! I love this! Look at this! This disease exists! It does this! We would look for this!” Which was so nice to be around.

Not only from the perspective of someone who’s been treated like crap from healthcare in the past but just from the view of someone being told their heart is fucking busted his attitude made it all very easy to process and feel hopeful for.

When “previous treatments” came up and I said I’ve had X tests, they pointed out that these things were irregular and just left me like that with 0 attempts to help he was devastated. In that “I need to maintain professionalism and not bash fellow doctors” way but it was so clear that he felt remorse for how I had been treated in the past. He repeatedly apologized and showed genuine sympathy and compassion for my experiences.

He wasn’t afraid to shy away from “rare” diseases either. He was the first to mention them as something to keep on the back of the brain while we run tests. There was also a massive interest in just having data for the sake of having data. He teetered of several different tests to run saying that X one’s are critical in establishing next steps and Y ones aren’t actually necessary but having more data is always a good thing. Not to mention that he was considering my health when setting up tests. Things like “this stress test involves long periods on a treadmill I don’t want you pushing yourself and triggering an episode” “if you don’t think it’s safe for you then we will not do it”.

There was a lot of “we don’t need this test right this second but it has a 6month/ 2 year waitlist so let’s put you on it anyways and if we change our minds we will take you off”. Like yknow thinking ahead and not making this 7 year problem go on any longer than it already has.

It was so obvious that he was invested in finding answers.
