the daughter of the fifth mughal emperor, shah jahan, jahanara begum was one of the most influential women of her time -- and yet her body rests in an open-sky tomb, unembellished by any physical reflections of her glory in life. named padshah begum at the age of seventeen, she became the cynosure of the mughal harem, carrying the wealth of her mother's inheritance along with income from land revenue. but her material status did little to bind her to the physical world: jahanara was a devout disciple of mullah shah badakshi, a sufi of the qadiriyya sufi order. she shared her sufism with her older brother, dara shikoh, and dedicated herself to the production of sufi literature, most famously her biography of khwaja moinuddin chishti, munis-ul-arwah. the sufi believes in the ultimate union with the Beloved, of shedding one's bodily soul to burn the wings of the moth of their hearts in the flame of the Creator. thus, it is no surprise that upon her death, the padshah begum, a revered shahzadi of the empire, chose to forego the resplendent architecture of royal mughal tombs, and wished to cover herself with nothing but the earth she had come from.

adrien is absolutely the kind of friend you can never jokingly ask to buy you stuff. alya will sarcastically say 'you should buy me this €80 shatterproof phone case' and a week later he's like 'here you go :D' marinette will say 'i wish someone would just send me to a fully paid for spa weekend' and she'd check her email at the end of the day and adrien has booked it all for her. everyone tries telling him to stop but he genuinely just loves giving stuff to his friends. but this also means everyone now AGGRESSIVELY reduces the things they joke about wanting. nino will say 'you know i think i want these very affordably priced headphones from ebay', marinette will say 'i could really do with a loving, friendly massage right now'

ladybug makes the observation at some point that chat noir, at the ripe age of fifteen, acts like such a dad sometimes. like he'll comment about how she should really sit up straight while theyre chilling out after patrol, and he'll start bringing a pair of binoculars so he can birdwatch from their rooftop, and he'll do that thing where after she casually mentions she's been craving strawberies lately he starts bringing industrial amounts of strawberries for her every time they meet. and she just thinks, wow, this boy must come from such a wonderful family for him to be so cute.

so when he quietly admits to her one day that he hasn't hugged his own dad in years, in fact he's not even sure if his own dad really likes him very much, her heart shatters

i think marinette's neurodivergency is the kind of neurodivergency where everyone's like 'no, yeah, she totally has adhd.' but adrien has spent so much of his life masking that even he doesn't even realise that maybe there's something goin on in his noggin.

but YEARS after they start dating, when theyre like 18/19 and have first moved in together, marinette notices that adrien has a tendency to just... sporadically info dump. just very random chunks of information on things with absolutely no preamble nor explanation of context afterwards.

one night at like, 2am, marinette's just about to drift off to sleep when adrien's like, "are you awake?" thinking he had a nightmare she's like yes of course chaton what's on your mind? he's quiet for a moment before, in a single stream of speech, says "did you know in england they found this man called the cheddar man in cheddar cave? they made this 3d bust of him and it showed that he had dark skin and blue eyes. and apparently this was actually a super common thing because as a species we started off as dark skinned and white skin was actually a genetic mutation that just persisted in the north because we didn't need the UV protection from melanin. and since there were literally thousands of years before we actually got distinct ethnic phenotypes, does that mean in a thousand years the phenotypes will be even more different? what if people develop purple eyes? or blue skin, like avatars? like how do we know that won't happen? and if it did happen how would makeup brands know when to start introducing new foundation shades? at what point will the population have to grow for mac to release, like, a purple concealer line?"

marinette just looks at him and says "do you want to try my adderall tomorrow?"

i think what i adore about ladynoir beyond high school age (18 and over) is the opportunity it leaves for some of the most DELICIOUS best friends to lovers scenarios. because, like, two people who've been fighting side by side for years? who've known each other long enough to make jokes about it, haha remember when we were fourteen and you-- we AGREED to never speak of it!!!! who've spent so long learning each other inside out, even, in chat noir's case, getting over feelings, that the idea of anything romantic between them is so far off the radar that they don't feel the need for certain boundaries, because why would it matter if they made jokes about how attractive they find each other, about getting married, about how they could totally mess with the rest of the miracle team by pretending they're hooking up because it's so far out of the realm of possibility.

but then there would be that imperceptible shift. the moment where one of them makes a joke and it feels just a bit more loaded than it should. gazes lingering where they never lingered and playful smiles turning curious. the sudden awareness that, while maybe they were cuddling on a rooftop with their best friend, they were also wrapped up in the arms of someone they trust with their lives, and is extremely attractive, and, wait, if the only reason it was platonic before was because there were no feelings, what does THIS mean?

THE TENSION. THE PINING. THE INHERENT MESS OF BEING IN YOUR TWENTIES. PLEASEEEE

can you imagine how fucking funny it would've been if prime queen just. didnt happen? like chat noir could've potentially gone years without ever knowing he and ladybug kissed when they fought dark cupid -- a kiss which SHE fully remembers. like at age nineteen or twenty one day he's complaining about a shitty date he just came back from and she's like 'oh did you do that weird thing with your tongue when you kissed her? maybe that's why she ended it early' and he's like. what?

cue ladybug having to awkwardly tell him that yes, they actually did kiss once around five or six years ago, and she's been using that experience this whole time to justify the observation that chat noir is a terrible kisser. he is SO mad.

ladybug totally talks in her sleep. especially during patrol naps, when sleeping feels like a mix of dreaming and reality, and so a lot of her dreams during that time involve chat noir. out of nowhere she'll say 'chat what the fuck' and he turns around like ???? what did i do??? but she won't elaborate. or, most commonly, she'll just say 'are you okay??' out of nowhere. and he's like. 'yes??' and she wakes up a little and is so embarrassed. she was having a dream about an akuma fight and was so convinced she just saw him take a hit. when really he's just chilling on the rooftop next to her

ladynoir are the type of best friends that accidentally raise each other's standards until literally no one but each other can meet them. like, ladybug will complain to chat about how guys from her uni only bring her flowers on dates and NOT randomly surprise her with them like he does and chat will be like 'WOW literally how hard is it to go to a florist at 6am??? that's the best time!!" or chat will tell her about how he was dating a girl who NEVER bothered to call him any other pet name than 'chéri' and ladybug is like, 'not even chaton??? minou??? where's the effort??'

inevitably, one of them will always say, "wow maybe we should just date!"

i think marinette is such a comfort character to me because her life is so full of love. and it's in the most simple ways. it's the way she screams 'ALYA HELP MEEEE' at any minor inconvenience, or the way she casually puts a hand on chat noir's shoulder when she tells him he's done a good job, or the way she takes the time out of her day to make gifts for people she cares about, or the way she is so unabashed about devoting herself to creating, to making something beautiful. and i love it because these are things you see her do and think, 'wait, i can just... hug my friends just because i want to? i can spend an afternoon working on something for someone i care about just because i can?' and it suddenly just feels so easy to have a life full of love like that. idk i love marinette

honesty is so important to ladynoir but i also think they'd sometimes just straight up lie to each other for fun, always in the most obvious ways because they know no matter how much they want to the other can't really refute it. ladybug will out of nowhere say she shaved her head completely smooth as a civilian the other night and chat noir would be like literally shut the fuck up no you didn't. chat noir will say he got married to a girl he went on two dates with and ladybug just says 'i hope you're paying for that girl's therapy'. the thing is the irrefutability of these things leads them to becoming running jokes between them. safe to say rena is so confused when chat noir points to a bowling ball akuma one day and says to ladybug 'is that what your head looks like when you're de transformed?'
