Review of Pucked by Helena Hunting

Stars: ⭐️⭐️/5

Plot: Pucked is a romantic comedy book. Violet, our FMC, has a step sibling in the NHL. There she meets, Alex (MMC) another NHL player with the reputation of being a womanizer. The pair hook up after a night out and Alex becomes obsessed. As their relationship forms, Alex has to come to terms with his bad public image and Violet has to learn to trust him.

My thoughts: I do occasionally enjoy a romantic comedy, and although I did laugh a few times throughout this book, the comedy was downright cringey 90% of the time. Perhaps I’m sensitive, but I really couldn’t get into the couple consistently referring to her lady parts as a “beaver” and his parts a “Snuffie”. The plot was meh, with a very predictable third act break up and quickly resolved tension. The MMC felt a little shallow with very little personality, even with his own POV. There was a gratuitous amount of spicy scenes, and I would have liked to see the couple growing more together outside of that. It was a quick read, even though I did consider DNFing a few times. Overall, it was your standard low quality fluff piece. I’d probably pick up another book in this series if I needed some mind numbing material. If that’s your thing, no shame! Available on KU.
