ellie’s eyes are slightly lidded as she hands you her joint that she just taught you how to roll. she’s let herself get high for a few minutes before allowing you to have your turn, and you seem a bit intimidated by it. she picks up on this, and giggles.

you snap back quickly, looking down as you hold it so delicately between your fingers. you do as she instructed and how you watched her do it, and bring it to your lips. once you inhale it, you try and hold it in for a few seconds, till a tingle happens right in the back of your throat.

you don’t even get to exhale fully before you have a coughing fit, ellie trying not to laugh as she slaps your back repeatedly. she hands you a water bottle, which you chug quickly.

“that was awful! what the fuck?”

“yeah, first time hurts like shit. just do two more babe, swear it’s worth it.”

ellie smiles at you hopefully, giving you the joint back once you’ve calmed down enough to consider your options. you give her a look of “you better be right” before hesitantly inhaling in again. and once more. by the third time it isn’t too bad, but it still hurt like a bitch.

you sit there, arms crossed as ellie smokes peacefully, enjoying her high.

“it’s not working. you liar.”

“give it a second, will you? you’ll know when.”

you roll your eyes at her and sit back, waiting to feel anything that isn’t a slight sting in your throat. after a few minutes of silence, you do feel different. you don’t wanna embarrass yourself in front of her, so you try to remain calm and silent.

that is, until she gives you a goofy grin.

it wasn’t even that silly, but fuck it made you laugh. a tiny giggle turned into more giggles, until you were laughing into your hands, not knowing why everything was so funny all of a sudden. ellie smiles at you, starting to laugh as well.

“see? told you.”

“whatever. you’re annoying.”

ellie smiles at you, giving you a tiny kiss on the cheek. your giggles were like music to her ears.

“yeah, love you too.”
