Oh lord your work has honestly has got to be one of the things that truly cemented me into being a Jason fan when I started to enter the fandom. I just wanted to ask; Has Dick or Bruce ever seen Jason (or even Jessie; im a fuckibg lesbian for her) while they were at a low point? Or have they ever seen something in Jay's behavior that seriously made them stop and think for a moment?

This goes for Jay and Femjay

For Dick: No. Dick and Jason aren’t close. They know each other through Bruce who is this deforming prism between them: lingers even in his absence. This + a lack of a relationship = Dick's empathy sleeping where Jason is involved since day one. Meanwhile, Jason just doesn't trust Dick nor expect his sympathy as the replacement goldfish Bruce picked up (or the outlaw Jason later become). They avoid/ignore rather than seek/antagonize each other (unless the situation demands violence). Hence, it’s not granted Dick could recognize the moment for what it was and not chalk it up as “classic Jason”.

As for Bruce: short answer is YES. Their whole history is paved with moments where Bruce has (usually late) epiphanies about Jason and himself. And this’ pretty much how Jason got benched after a rapist went flying through a balcony to meet the concrete twenty floors lower.

More to say, so long AF rant below the cut. Mostly about canon interpretation I use for characterisation + some side notes about Femjay at the very end. The essential is above tho.

Starts with “Batman the Cult”:

Aka Batman goes missing while investigating an underground sect that kidnaps homeless people. When Jason finally finds him, Bruce is a drugged, tortured, half-raving mad man on a pile of corpses who've been living in the sewers for weeks. Jason tries to bring Batman to his senses and at the surface but he's so damaged in and out that Robin has to guide him back home like a lost child. Eventually they get surrounded by the cult members. After a "it was an honor to meet and fight with you sir" Robin got outflanked. Begs Bruce to help as a crowd of drugged hobos tries to literally tear him apart. Jason is like 14-15yo and it takes these three "adult fears" in a row (child going “yolo” + child protecting the powerless adult + watching child get almost killed) for Bruce to finally fight back and save the day.

Which brings us to the following event: The rapist and the balcony :p. Bruce can't prove if Jason committed the crime or not so the act in itself isn't the point. Jason admitting he didn't try to catch the falling rapist, no feeling remorse to potentially causing someone's death is what alarms Bruce here.

Between the Cult and this, for me it's definitely when Bruce first gets blessed with many epiphanies; 1) Jason’s attitude toward death, his or the crooks' lives, his soldier-like devotion to Bruce during the Cult is alarming. 2) Turns out Jason have different opinions regarding Justice, the right to redemption or vigilantism. Opinions that are pretty irreconcilable with Bruce’s. 3) He's not shaking the grip Gotham has on the boy at all (his reason or excuse to take Jason in at first.) 4) Jason's indulging Bruce and playing by his rules because love and respect (he hopes), not because Jason understands or believes in Bruce's methods or share his creeds. 5) He may had been emotionally compromised when he took in Jason (as Dick accuses him to be) and had been making thing worse for the boy, failing Jason as a mentor/guardian and an adult.

As the “greatest detective”, it weighs on Bruce that he ultimately failed Jason in knowing the boy and providing what he needs; his guilt and irresponsibility catching up to him all at once. From Bruce’s perspective, this has cost a man's life and Jason’s “innocence”, simply because he (or anyone) didn’t manage to see Jason for who he is; a more troubled child than he or Dick ever was, and that despite having all the clues in the world to figure it out. In result Jason and Robin are benched. Jason dies before Bruce can find what he should do. That's it. UTRH could be seen as Jason at a low point I guess. But special mention to when Bruce "walks away" to not choose between Red Hood and Joker before aiming a batarang at RH's gun, Jason sits down in silence and simply gives up; resigned to wait for the bomb to blow up, not caring if Bruce or Joker get away or die with him. A stark contrast to how determined and mouthy he's been until then. Jason "accepts" what he sees as Bruce's choice: that Joker is more or equally as important to him than Jason. Bruce has to pull him away from the worst of the blast so it's fair to say that he must notice. It doesn't manage to make Bruce stops and thinks, but the conclusion to that story on Bruce's side this time is that while Jason is back and alive, the event in UTRH achieved to kill the boy he knew and lost.

As for femjay, here a bit more trivia just for her AU:

Dick first thought after discovering that new Robin was a tomboy, whom Bruce also addresses or presents as one 90% of the time does alarms him a bit in the midst of his confusion. But when he half-questions Jason about it, she mocks him about this incident and shuts him off with a "none of your beeswax". Fuming, Dick brushes it off as being some kind of pervert game between Bruce and Jason, be it Bruce trying to replace and hurt him, introverted misogyny, lesbian culture or whatever. None of his beeswax. He doesn't look deeper into it. He leaves Gotham and only comes back for her "funeral". As a general rule, looking into Jason- related stuff and not minding his business when she is involved, always ends up biting Dick in the arse.

Bruce never really brushes the subject of what Jason may have done or not in order to survive on the streets for two years or why her parents gave her a boy name. He takes what Jason gives him on this (which is little) and doesn't pry into it further since Jason's medical checkups are fairly good and promising. Jason is a girl who prefers to blend in as a boy and Bruce plays along, secretly relieved because Bruce has no idea how to deal with a pre-teen/teenage girl. So yeah; he's scared and this is a blessing for him and she looks happy like that. Bruce avoids using pronouns to avoid confusion himself (which is partly why Dick got so confused by Jason's gender when they first met).

Nobody but Alfred realizes she starts corseting herself with bandages and a sports bra by the end of second year at the manor. Or that she buys pads and razors on the dozen with who knows what money since she asks for nothing. Old-fashioned Wayne's British butler is barely more at ease with Jason's womanhood than Bruce, but Al does take the initiative to give her an allowance so she can buy underwears when she first arrives. He simply raises that allowance to cover her new needs with a cryptic and awkward explanation. But because Jason doesn't know how to choose a bra she sticks to what she knows, aka; keeps wearing a sports bra and flattening her chest as best as she can while residing at the Manor. By the time she comes back as Red Hood, Jason is too curvy to hide so she doesn't. Also; Talia... While she still was only trying to use Jason against or to win Bruce back, she's appalled to learn what Jason used to do to her breasts, and took pity of her. She forcefully take Jason out shopping for her first actual bra at 17-18 yo and teach her some more basics.

Tim is too well mannered and smart to be associated with the titans they're a literal bunch of toddlers although donna felt like an old lady being called miss troy and ma'am (I'm 23 an I love being called ma'am my brains like who me I'm an adult cool) 😅 gar and tim are prob gonna bond over being the only titans capable of rational thought 😅 The train was quite cool tbh yo how long have people been on that train cuz that one lady looked very 1920s to me

HANK HALL YOU BEAUTIFUL PRECIOUS ANGEL I knew he wasn't gonna make it out of there but my dumb brain held out a smidge of hope Hank is always in protector mode and always concerned about saving the children he tries to help jason and boom dead he tries to help tim and oh no still dead dang it hank, when donna was like oh no dawns gotta be so upset and hanks like yeah she better be 😅 donna wanted to stay and had to leave and hank wanted to leave and had to stay 😢 donna and hank talking about jason and hes like that little fcker blew me up! I know he talked about revenge on jason and I do think that if he got back he would be focused on stopping jason but I also think over a little time he'd forgive him and they'd kinda be buddies again and he'd help him with the drug problem also hank should get to kick crane in the face cuz yeah. Of course hank be driving around the after life blasting living on a prayer and he manages to find a car and a hotel I'm so happy he's with his brother now tho they gonna be kickn ass in the after life hanks basically some type of afterlife guardian now so I'm taking that as he's literally an angel 👼

Maybe hank donna and tim all had the good luck to find each other because of the ritual thingy they were tryna do at themyscira oh my gosh rachel is too funny her idea of themyscira punishment was being made to fight a shark or getting thrown in a pit 😂 that lady tho was that hippolyta and she saying her daughter being dead and earlier donna said to hank it's not like I died stopping an asteriod I died at a carnival so am I connecting stuff that ain't there or did Diana get killed stopping an asteriod? Okay but honestly somebody please please please help bruce what the heck dick I get he's got a lot to deal with but he could contact bruce now and again and I dunno maybe make him aware that jason is not dead!!! also dc should do a really cool back and white noir movie and a scarecrow movie like the way they did that joker movie would be dope too (it would also be intensely cool if they did a dc black label psychoanalytical exploration of Dr Jonathan Crane leading into Scarecrow stories because honestly I think he's one of thier more frightening villians cuz yeah if joker comes to mess you up it won't be a fun time but at least whatever he does to you he's not going to achieve locking you inside your own mind and there's a chance batman or someone will save you but with scarecrow if he comes to mess you up there's a high chance that he'll screw your brain up that much that you literally get trapped in your own mind and like how is anyone gonna be able to get you out of that also the clinical medical-ness would be a touch extra frightening cuz he can mess up with precision whereas joker will wreck you anyway he can but he's not gonna be able to be so precise in what he's doing sorry for the rant but they have such cool characters and so much potential to do stuff with them like ahhh )

❄️ What makes your OC sad, so sad that they can’t help but cry all day? How do they cheer themself up? Does their sadness upset any of their loved ones too?

ooof okay. probably the thing that still makes her choke up is thinking about her twin brothers. like without a doubt, if any of her thoughts go to them, whether it’s her going down memory lane and feeling nostalgic bc she saw something that reminded her of them, or it’s because she’s actually purposely thinking about their deaths, the injustice of it, how mad she still is about it, and how helpless it makes her feel to think she couldn’t even manage to save her baby brothers, what makes her think she can save the rest of the world, she always chokes up. it’s the sort of thing that either has her staring teary eyed at some dumb joke that wasn’t meant to trigger those thoughts or she’s locking herself in her apartment, crying until she passes out.

another thing that really gets her down in general is thinking about all of the people she couldn’t save. she wears the whole world on her shoulders constantly, even if she’s reassured that despite everything, she’s still just a person too.

zoe usually either just has to let it all out because it’s been brewing too long – this includes crying and/or hitting bad guys in space until she’s too exhausted to even stand. – or she has to go do something, get her mind off of it, dive straight into a job or a project or something because she can’t think about what’s bothering her right now. back before she came back to earth, she would drink everything away, but now that she’s sober she tries to find better ways to release.

her sadness is something she hides a lot, so she’ll usually disappear (unless she goes to you to join you for mission) bc her loved ones are all pretty vigilant. gran-gran has eyes like a hawk and a feel for zoe’s emotions better than anyone else and will not let her cave in on herself but she also doesn’t want to force her to talk about it if she doesn’t want. so she’ll put her to work on the ranch until zoe comes to her and tells her what’s wrong. keme is pretty good at reading his sister and it only affects him so badly because he can’t like…how do you punch your sister’s insecurities and bad thoughts?? you can’t!! so he kind of will just arrive to spar with her whether she likes it or not (it helps a lot actually, especially when she’s feeling insecure about her role in the world).

and then of course… the batfam. they’re not the most like,, emotionally stable? conscious? people in the world but jason’s been friends with z forever and believe or not, he takes a more cautious approach with her. cause when zoe’s sad, she releases it like a big explosion of teary eyed, ugly crying, snot faced angry crying and shouting. and jason has a tendency to react in kind and sometimes zoe doesn’t need jason to be yelling too, so he’ll just come invade her space. it upsets him to not be able to really do anything, too, so he’ll just take up space on her couch or her dining table and wait for her to come around and when she does, they either talk about it or they just go right back to being

annoying friends. dick and donna have more proactive ways of dealing with an upset zoe, just like keme. donna gets upset when zoe gets upset bc she loves her so much and pls stop running away from this, just come sit on my couch and talk to me or something. or she knocks a little sense into her, like a wonderful big sister. dick is usually the last resort person to come and kick zoe out of a rut if gran-gran can’t make it. roy just brings lian. rose kicks her into shape and tells her to “stop crying.” sometimes it works wonders! other times… not so much

so like, yeah. her loved ones do get affected by it. esp when one day they’re happily talking with a bright eyed and smiley faced zoe and then the next day/week she’s just gone and isn’t answering texts or phone calls. when she’s upset, it’s like they lose her all over again and that…really sucks. they don’t want to go through that again (and for a few of them it kind of triggers them).

oh jeez hm. she doesn’t know how many people she’s killed. and it bothers her so she doesn’t tell anyone that she has no idea and that it kind of scares her. she’s kind of scared to find out, even if her opinion on killing bad guys isn’t as severe as other peoples’.

also like, not really a deep dark secret, but whenever she thinks about killing the joker, she doesn’t really feel anything. she doesn’t feel any guilt or remorse or like she’s some kind of monster for wanting to end someone’s life. she just kind of feels…fine. which is why whenever she thinks about his still being alive, still doing the things he does, and how it would change so many peoples’ lives, definitely probably for the better, she gets so fucking angry. she doesn’t tell anyone because it makes her mad to think about how other people can dictate how she might feel if she followed through with something like that.

oh uh not to get a little shippy but she’s definitely in love with dick grayson. she never tells anyone and when jason figures it out, it’s because he figures. it. out. not because she was like oh jay let’s have a heart to heart where i tell you i love your older brother!!!

roy is the only one who knows. because he was THERE. but she’s had sex with roy. she’s kind of embarrassed to tell anyone. ESPECIALLY DONNA OR DICK OR ANY OF THE OTHER OG TITANS.

🍂 What are their opinions on the different seasons? Which one do they hate and which one do they love and why?

zoe h a t e s the cold, so winter and fall are like no-goes for her temperature-wise. she doesn’t hate the way winter and fall looks and she definitely enjoys all of the mandatory this is required i have a doctor’s note and everything cuddling and warm hugs she gets during the fall and winter. bc she’s a cold-blooded baby. summer and spring are only more enjoyable bc she’s not sluggish or fucking c o l d. also she gets to wear her best and ugliest clothes to piss all of her more fashion concerned friends and family off.

zoe loves winter and fall for like other things tho. like being able to get all of the people she cares about presents for the holidays without having to come up with a reason (bc everyone around her is so damn suspicious) or the festivities or having an excuse to shove her freezing cold hands under people’s shirts and startling them.

summer and spring are fun because she doesn’t get allergies like everyone else (boo you whore) and because she likes to spend a lot of her time at home at the ranch when she can. ALSO she gets to see more of the kids she hosts pottery/clay classes for bc they’re all off school and she loves her kids!!!
