What are some actually GOOD Sword and Sandal movies?
Tumblr media
One of the bigger genres in Italy who’s popularity came and went in waves from the silent era to the present, Sword and Sandal (or Peplum) films are Italian movies about gladiators, musclemen, Ancient Greece and Rome, and who’s main characters include Hercules, Spartacus, Ursus, Maciste (a homegrown, semi-Marxist Hercules who fights the rich and decadent who is purely a creation of Italian cinema).
Tumblr media
The genre started in 1912, with Cabiria, an ultra-early Italian feature that predated D.W. Griffith, featuring a muscular African slave named Maciste, and due to his muscles and screen presence, Bartolomeo Pagano may have been the first true movie star, making dozens of sequels. The popularity of these movies went into hibernation in Italy until 1959, when it got a huge resurgence when Steve Reeves starred as Hercules, and consequently became the highest paid star in Europe. Hercules (1959) caused literally hundreds of movies to be made, assembly line, in a burst of about 5 years. The genre burned itself out through repetition in only a half decade, only to be replaced by the Italian horror/slasher film and the Spaghetti Western. It was down for good, only to have something of a resurgence of popularity in Italy in the wake of the popularity of John Milius’s Conan the Barbarian in the early 1980s.
Tumblr media
Sword and Sandal seems to be a genre where any given film picked at random could be a Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode. For the most part, Sword and Sandal movies are mostly known for being the training ground of people who showed their skills in other genres, like how Mario Bava became a horror director, or how Sergio Leone, a second unit director on a few, was best known later for Spaghetti Westerns. And there is certainly some truth to the idea that, if you have seen one, you’ve seen them all. But there are certainly some good examples of the genre that are worth seeing.
Goliath and the Dragon (1960)
Don’t be fooled, this is a Hercules movie, but they renamed it because of some begobbled distribution rights issue.
Tumblr media
If you were a Greek mythology kid (and most nerdy kids went through a phase they were into sharks, dinosaurs, Greek mythology, AV/Radio, writing in Dwarf runes under your desk after reading Tolkien for the first time, and lego) you might remember reading about Hercules’s semi-tragic end, poisoned and killed by his own wife and a centaur. It was the most fascinating story, where Hercules’s great strength and courage was defeated by jealous and anxious little people who tore him down. Americans don’t have much of a taste for tragedy, so it’s very seldom been adapted for American audiences.
Tumblr media
Goliath and the Dragon is that story. It literally starts with Hercules finishing his hardest heroic Labor, and retiring. However, his younger brother is jealous of him, and a conspiracy of schemers work to get rid of Hercules by manipulating envy. Along the way, Hercules feels abandoned by the gods and he turns against them in anguish after a lifetime of service. It has a dragon, and quests into the underworld, yes, but it is primarily not an adventure film, which is what makes it interesting.
It also stars Mark Forest, who might be the only one of the bodybuilders to play Hercules to have a legit screen presence. He later left movies to become an opera singer and voice coach.
Eric the Conqueror (1961)
Tumblr media
This is one by Italian horror titan Mario Bava, and because it’s kind of a well known film, it actually has a half-decent transfer, including availability in the original language instead of a shoddy 70s dub - this is utterly, absolutely unheard of in this genre, where the copies of these movies on streaming (even on Amazon Prime!) are sometimes literally off VHS and have “snow lines” and other phenomenally half-assed signs of VHS transfer, like the original FBI WARNING stickers.
The film is about two Viking brothers, one of who is raised by Christians as a knight, the other of whom grows up the son of a pagan Viking warlord. It’s a film about the contrast between Christian and Pagan, and the one thing about it people remember is that it stars a pair of Playboy Playmate twins. Stylish and action-oriented with lots of red blood, it’s like a cool version of Disney’s “The Island at the Top of the World.”
Hercules in the Haunted World (1961)
Tumblr media
Hercules vs. Christopher Lee –need I say more? Christopher Lee is a vampire who took over a kingdom and hypnotized Hercules’s true love, shrouding the land in eerie darkness…and so Hercules has to descend into the underworld. This is a case where the screenshots really tell the story, they get across the eerie, surreal Gothic ambiance of the film. It doesn’t actually feature Castle Greyskull, but it would perfectly fit in with the décor.
Tumblr media
As far as I know, Hercules never actually encountered vampires in Greek folklore, but in Italian cinema, they seem to feel that the supreme challenge for the Son of Zeus is the undead (see also, Kobrak in Goliath and the Sins of Babylon).
Tumblr media
I feel guilty having two Mario Bava movies on here. But of the two, this one feels the more…Mario Bava, in lighting, design, and ambiance, which is really the reason to see it. Essentially, it’s Hercules Goes to Hell, and it’s treated as more of a truly eerie horror movie, with weird lighting. The presence of Christopher Lee makes it feel like a bodybuilder accidentally wandered onto the set of a Hammer Horror film, with crumbling castles and she-vampires in negligees.
Maciste in Hell (1925)
Tumblr media
Speaking of the essential plot of a muscleman going to hell, you wouldn’t think a movie of that kind would be whimsical, charming, imaginative, and creative, but it is. Satan tries to tempt Maciste, a pure in heart muscleman who represents the pure, incorruptible goodness and strength of the working class. Maciste movies, distinct from Hercules films, always had a strong Marxist undertone, with villains who were super-rich and decadent, all the while Maciste resisted their temptations and hung out with the lower classes and sponsored a revolution. The movie is full in intertitles like “the Dragon – Hell’s Aeroplane!” And the quest by female devils to turn Maciste into a demon himself with a kiss. Essentially, it’s a movie where if you’re pure in heart and have biceps of steel, there’s no problem you can’t bench press, grip, or grapple, even Satan.
According to his memoirs, this was the movie that made Fellini want to become a director.
Hercules and the Princess of Troy (1965)
Tumblr media
Made at the absolute dying gasp of the genre, this one is essentially the “Enter the Dragon” of Sword and Sandal movies, in that it was a Hollywood/Italian co-production, much like how “Enter the Dragon” was the first Hollywood/Hong Kong co-production. It wasn’t a movie at all, but a pilot episode for a television show that never went to series…to everyone’s shame, because if it had been made, it would have been a crowd pleaser, if the pilot was anything to go by. I all but guarantee it would be a syndication favorite that would have turned everyone in it into a star, the kind that would be on Nick at Nite forever, or the earliest incarnation of F/X, where it was just a scrappy rerun network with a pre-Survivor Jeff Probst (I still remember the F/X house all the VJ like hosts lived in).
Tumblr media
This one has Hercules (played by Tarzan Gordon Scott) as a sea captain and leader of a Greek ship named the Olympia, who is accompanied by two sidekicks, Ulysses (a young, clever Ulysses as Herc’s sidekick was also a trait of Paul Levine’s Hercules and Hercules Unchained), and Diogenes, Hercules’s smart friend, a medical doctor and proto-scientist who comes off as the project’s most interesting character, a Dr. McCoy like curmudgeon who adventures to stay away from his awful wife, who creates a chemical that burns on water and who uses the Socratic Method to solve a murder mystery. If this had gone to series, I can see him overshadowing the theoretical leading man in a similar way to Jonathan Harris as Dr. Smith overshadowing the Robinsons.
The pilot was great fun. It had mythological creatures like invulnerable horses and a terrifyingly unique sea monster, that was some of the earliest work by the now legendary Carlo Rambaldi (creator of E.T. and the Alien) that is light years ahead of the shag carpet dragons musclemen pretend to wrestle in movies like this. Not to mention a mystery, and Hercules facing intrigue that, as a trustworthy and direct man of action, he is incapable of dealing with (a trait of nearly every single interesting Hercules movie).

Sun Myung Moon, a mysterious romance, a stolen lover – and a triple murder.
The Tragedy of the Six Marys, pages 161-172
by Pak Chung-hwa
Kim Won-deok graduated from Japanese Military Academy during the Japanese rule. After the liberation from the Japanese, he joined the North Korean military, but worked for the South. He was arrested and sentenced to death, but he was saved by his previous boss in the military. He was sent to Heungnam prison, where he met Mr. Moon. After Kim was introduced to me, we became close friends – like brothers. When he was released, he became a security officer in South Korea.
When the Unification Church was in trouble, he helped Mr. Moon in many ways. He saved Mr. Moon when he was attacked by his wife in Busan. She could do nothing about it.

A mysterious romance  162
One day Kim Won-deok told me an interesting story. It was a story of romance that made me jealous. He had taken a night train to Busan from Yongsan station a few days previously. He was sitting in first class. An attractive looking woman surrounded by many policemen got on the train. She appeared to be a lady connected to some high official. She sat on the seat in front of Kim. Until the train passed Daejun, they said nothing to each other. They just looked at each other.
After a while, she started to recite an old Korean poem, while she looked at Kim Won-deok’s profile. Her voice sounded like the voice of angel to him. She looked a little serious, but she was quite emotional. Kim was a man of much experience. He asked her if she was bravely travelling on to Busan. She answered that she was going to Busan on business, and that she ran an aluminum factory in Yongsan.
After that they chatted together until the train arrived at Busan. They parted at the station, but not before agreeing a time to meet again. Later, when they met, they had dinner together and watched a movie, just like an ordinary couple. She behaved like a social woman. She was very attractive. They went to a hotel together. Their short love affair was an something that Kim couldn’t explain. Kim had to stay in Busan ten days longer than he had planned.
A beautiful woman and a ‘Feast’  165
Kim Won-deok asked me to go to her house with him for dinner. Out of curiosity, I accompanied him to Yongsan.
Her house was an old Japanese style one. “Yoon” was written on the name tag. We were guided by two young women. The first room had a golden statue of the Buddha and candles, the next room was large and looked like a reception room. We were served tea, then an amorous perfume filled the room and she appeared. She greeted us nodding a little smiling.
Tumblr media

Her voice was clear like crystal. She looked to be in her late 40s. She was wearing traditional Korean costume. It was like the costume of a bride. When we moved to the next room, a variety of delicious and colorful dishes were ready. She recited an old Chinese poem and we drank for the night.
A strange ability to predict  167
After she had practiced in Kuemkang Mountain for ten years, she said that she could see the future. She could see the fate of a person, and a lot of candidates for the National Assembly came to see her because she could predict election results. She could tell the success or failure of people in university entrance examinations.
Consequently, she said that her aluminum manufacturing plant, which she ran, was a side business. Her true purpose in life was to support poor orphans – especially girls – and to help them to get a university education and succeed in society. She said that many girls had already graduated from Ewha Womans University, and currently she was taking care of 17 girls.
As I heard this story, I did not dare to look directly at her face. After finishing dinner, we parted, promising to meet again. She implied that Kim was her boyfriend, and she did not care about his wife. She only wanted his love. She said there was no problem if they liked each other. I thought she was very different from ordinary secular people.
After that, Kim Won-deok and I were free to visit her house. Whenever we visited her, we were well treated with good meals.
Later she established a construction company, and Kim Won-deok was hired as president. But Kim had no experience in construction and was not able to manage it well. Soon the company went bankrupt. After that they established several different companies but they all failed.
Later on, Mrs Yoon asked us if she could meet Sun Myung Moon. They met finally on October 25, 1954 at Yang Yun-yeong’s house in Shindang-dong.
Tumblr media
▲ Yang Yun-yeong [real name. She taught music at both Ewha and Yonsei Universities.]
Sun Myung Moon stole a lover from his own disciple  169
On the appointed day, Kim Won-deok and I took Mrs Yoon to Mrs Yang Yun-yeong’s house. Women members such as Yang Yun-yeong, Lee Deuk-sam, Oh Yeong-choon, Ok Se-hyun, Chi Seung-do, Kim Soon-cheol, Lee Kee-hwan, Yang Yun-shin were gathered there as well as Eu Hyo-won, Eu Hyo-min, Lee Su-hyang, Kim Won-pil and others.
Mrs Yoon was wearing the best traditional Korean costume and seemed like a bride going into the groom’s house for the first night. The members who saw the scene, especially the female members, were overwhelmed. After greeting Mr. Moon, she looked at him with her spiritual eyes and said to him “You are having difficulty in finding a woman who will become a true mother. I came as a bride to greet my teacher as a groom, and I will serve you.” Everybody in the room was surprised again because she spoke so directly.
The atmosphere became like the time when the Jesus took three disciples up a mountain with him. Sun Myung Moon lectured about the principles for a long time that night. Mrs. Yoon sang traditional Korean songs and recited poetry and sang a Japanese tanka and recited haiku. Her voice took over the house as if she was the owner. It was surprising for Mrs. Yang Yun-yeong, a music professor at Ewha Womans University, to hear the sound.
At that time Mr. Moon was being closely watched by the authorities, and the curfew was at midnight. We parted promising to meet again.
About a week later, Sun Myung Moon suddenly visited Mrs Yoon’s house with Eu Hyo-min. Kim Won-deok and I were very surprised at his unexpected visit. I did not know that Sun Myung Moon would come. Mrs Yoon made delicious food with all her heart and entertained Sun Myung Moon. He sat with Mrs Yoon with the attitude of a groom going to his bride’s house. Mrs Yoon also seemed to expect that she would be a bride – like the woman who was preparing oil for the groom in the Bible story. Kim Won-deok and I stayed until late that night – eating, drinking and singing. Finally we left while Sun Myung Moon and Eu Hyo-min stayed.
That night, Sun Myung Moon said he had the pikareum sex ritual with Mrs. Yoon Cheong Jeong-shim.
Kim Won-deok evacuated from the north and came down to the south. In the early days when there was no place for Sun Myung Moon to live, he stayed for a while in Kim’s rented house. And when Sun Myung Moon was in difficult situations in Busan, several times Kim Won-deok took the lead and solved the problem.
Kim was betrayed by Sun Myung Moon who took his lover, Mrs Yoon Cheong Jeong-shim, and he began to avoid Sun Myung Moon. After that, when Elder Song Do-wook was secretary, Sun Myung Moon often visited Mrs Yoon. When Mr. Moon was arrested on July 4, 1955, Mrs Yoon also became estranged from Mr. Moon and the Unification Church for a while.
Kim Won-deok met me several times and expressed his anger and resentment about Sun Myung Moon’s betrayal. I tried hard to explain the principle of restoration to protect Sun Myung Moon, but Kim Won-deok did not want to hear.
Kim Won-deok said, “While there are so many women, how could Mr. Moon steal a woman who was loved by one of his disciples, and take her away. He is making me look like a fool. How can I submit a teacher who does such a thing? No matter how great the teachings of the Unification Church may be, I am not willing to believe them anymore. I cannot forgive Sun Myung Moon. He is just a fraudster who is using women in the name of religion.”
Kim Won-deok was a former soldier, but he was really outraged. I was too. He was really angry about Mr. Moon. He said, “The man called Sun Myung Moon is a horny dog, a dirty animal.”
I knew how angry he was, but I could not say anything further to him.
About two years later, Mrs Yoon, her step-daughter (the daughter of a university student), and housekeeper were killed by someone. There was an uproar about the three deaths.
The police investigated, but it was difficult like a labyrinth. At that time, the relationship between Sun Myung Moon and Mrs. Yoon was still continuing. Preparations were going on by people to make a film to be called “Oh Incheon” about the UN forces landing at Incheon during the Korean War (the 6.25 disturbance). But the sudden death of Mrs. Yoon left no funds and the project was put on hold.
Kim Won-deok was a suspect in the murders. At the time the police visited me to ask his whereabouts. Later I got the chance to meet Mr Kim many times. I looked at his sad appearance. He was quite surprised at what had happened [and said he had nothing to do with it.] We played a game of looking at all those associated with the victim to see if we could find the actual perpetrators. Kim Won-deok had not changed in any way and I was convinced that he was not the culprit.
Kim Won-deok is dead now, and already three years have passed.

There are many photos that support the text. One map by Pak reveals the lies of Kim Won-pil who had to hastily republish his Japanese testimony book – with the falsehoods removed.
A couple of years later Pak Chung-hwa was coerced into putting his name on the cover of a book written by the UC of Japan: I Am A Traitor – At that time Satan possessed me! (That is not the usual title for a memoir.)

Kat I would pay anything for you to rewrite Satan J dumpsterfire’s books
well this would actually be a really fun thing to do and imma speculate on how i’d go about doing so…
this is for t0g and, first of all, i’d start with cutting subplots. there are way, way, way too many, and not all of them are necessary to the overarching story plot. by cutting subplots, i would also reduce the cast because there is no way we need all these characters as well. the romances would be trimmed down: Sam would probably not exist (sj/m no longer thinks about him anyway, and his story doesn’t exactly affect the future books) and Dorian would never be a love interest for sardines in the first place (Chaol might, but i think that’d be unrequited bc he’s secretly in love with Dorian, who he can’t have). the main villain would be the king of Adarlan, who would actually get a name and a personality, and have more ambitions than Be Evil For Reasons. and there would be a helluva ton more diversity, from ethnicities, sexualities, genders, disabilities, etc etc.
so, t0g would still have the competition, though i don’t think i’d make sardines the only female participant bc sj/m clearly only did that to showcase just how feminist she herself is. in fact, the competition would be the main plot of book 1 and i’d trim out the unnecessary fuckery sj/m shows toward Kaltain. Kaltain, sardines, and Nehemia would become a kickass trio who work to solve the subplot of the murder mystery, but there would be more monsters than just the few that exist. one subplot i’d cut here is the mystery with Queen Elena bc i really hate stories where some ancient queen comes along to mysteriously tell the protagonist what they need to do but forces them to figure out their mysterious directions for the sake of “stakes” and “mystery” (it’s one reason i disliked Snow Like Ashes, especially bc it’s so predictable why this ancient queen is helping the supposedly no-name protagonist). these monsters would directly relate to the king of Adarlan, as he would be controlling them to ensure that magic remains scary enough so that no one would even think about bringing it back.
that’s another thing i’d do: change the king’s motives regarding magic’s nonexistence. here, he’s terrified of magic and/or hates it because of some traumatic experience he had with it, which opened his eyes to how magic was being misused but ofc he goes about fixing that the wrong way.
so t0g would end with sardines winning the competition, figuring out who’s behind the eradication of magic and who’s controlling the monsters (they find out who the monsters are being created and controlled by through Cain, as he was one of the original people to be transformed into a monster), the monsters would be killed with Dorian and Chaol’s help and sardines, Kaltain, and Nehemia would now have possession of the spell that created these monsters in the first place, and the king is backed into a corner because now he can’t create monsters to do his dirty work and ensure that people are too afraid of magic to bring it back. however, when sardines won the competition, the king placed the ring on her finger that controls her (so the rings would 1, come into play much sooner and 2, actually have an important role in sardines’ ambitions to be free of the king). thus, he uses sardines as his scare tactic: monsters don’t exist any longer, but sardines is the king’s champion and, as she would be known as a ruthless assassin bc she actually has grey morals and actually follows through on her assassin status, she would be sent after anyone who even so much as thinks about magic. and, bc sardines is being controlled by the ring, she has no choice to kill as he commands.
so, c0m’s main plot with sardines would be twofold: doing as the king commands (killing people who want magic) and trying to be free of the king. what the king doesn’t know is that, when sardines kills the people the king sics her on, she does kill them but she takes the magic that alerted the king to them in the first place. she hides that magic in that secret apartment she has and tells no one but her closest allies (Chaol, Dorian, Kaltain, and Nehemia) about it, as they’ve all come up with a plan to stop the king once and for all, because it becomes apparent (especially with the rings as proof) that he’s scared of magic, yes, but he relies on it too much to truly give it up. and they’re definitely going to use that to their advantage by trying to find a way to use his magic against him, largely because his magic is borrowed from dark creatures (probably not the Valg bc those guys are pretty boring, ngl) he promised human souls to in exchange for letting him “borrow” their magic.
unbeknownst to the king, however, is that the sardines crew is stealing the rings that the king is sending out to his trusted advisers (that he clearly doesn’t trust very much, considering he wants to control them with dark magic) in order to melt them down to create a knife that can kill the king’s body so the creatures can take his soul when he doesn’t give them the human souls they demanded. why doesn’t he give them the human souls? because he’s using their souls and the dark magic to create those rings in the first place, which Kaltain and Sorscha find out (as they’re geniuses with spying and quickly become best friends).
i’m torn between Chaol and Dorian being endgame or Chaol, Dorian, and sardines being endgame in a polyamorous relationship, bc that anon the other day made me warm up to it. Sorscha would be the crew’s main healer, since she dabbles in reading illegal books on ancient healing with magic. Nehemia and Sorscha of course fall in love in the process, since there are some ancient texts that Sorscha can’t read that Nehemia can, bc Nehemia is a princess and was thus raised speaking several languages, as royalty are supposed to. and yep @polysorscha and i still really ship sorschemia and i will ship it until the day i die. sardines, as the protagonist, would be the one to wield the blade that kills the king, but she would have to storm the castle with her allies, much in the way that sardines and Dorian fought together at the end of q0s.
c0m would end with the king being killed, Dorian becoming the king with Chaol as his captain of the guard (which Chaol is actually happy about now because he loves Dorian), sardines being freed from her contract as king’s champion but taking up the mantle of training a division of Chaol’s forces for stealth work while Kaltain teaches them about spying. Nehemia and Dorian would have either a very close political alliance or a political marriage to make Eyllwe and Adarlan allies. ofc Nehemia and Sorscha are still together and Dorian and Chaol (and maybe sardines? i dunno, i’m leaning toward having sardines remain single bc, in my version of the story, that feels right) are still together. magic would be returned in waves in order to protect those who have magic in their bodies (such as shapeshifters) so they’re not punched in the face with it, and in order to warm the people up to it because the king was fairly successful in making people fear magic by using his monsters and then sardines. there would also be far more regulation of it to make sure the stuff that made the king eradicate it never happens again.
hmm i think that’s all i’ve got for this. i might add more if some other things come to mind, but this is a start.

Fic Recs/Writers *updated 09/12/2019
THE LIBRARY IS OPEN DARLING....for some actual reading.
A list of fics/writers I’ve come across that got some of that pretty sweet stuff. And also because I’ve read around too much and can’t remember names or fics to save my life. THE UPDATES MAN!
Warning: Some fics (as will be indicated) are +18/rated M for Mature/take me to church kinda deal
@versigny
I’d say almost all of their stuff is worth a read (whoever your bias may be, they got stories on them), but my personal faves are their vampire au series, some +18 stuff there but majority of the stories are oneshots and drabbles
@honeyedhoseok (I think now @tawnytaehyung)
I’m sure everything they wrote is worth a read from what I’ve read thus far but because of that, I can really only recommend the three fics I actually read.
Series: Besitos (ta!Jimin) rated M for recent developments hoho~
Bruh why is this not reality? Why don’t we get really hot TAs to crush on? It would’ve made my school life hella easier and I’d get that perfect attendance. Jimin is your hottie creative writing TA who you can’t help but crush on (but can anyone blame you) and envious to all, he likes you back too. College au shenanigans, teacher/student dynamic, and dorky wingman ta!Taehyung friend.
Oneshot/drabbles (Crossroad demon!Jimin): Crossroads + Hunted + Captured Part One *NEW + Captured Part Two *NEW
I’d sell my soul to satan if he looks like bs&t!Jimin. You basically make a deal with crossroad demon!Jimin and can’t help but actually grow fond of the supposed devious, soul eating creature of hell.
Series: The Black Book (CEO!Hoseok) rated M
My heart can’t take the drama but it’s still a really good read. CEO!Hoseok may be young and rich but he definitely has some questionable methods of relieving stress, one that you’re all too aware of which makes things super awkward cuz you in love with the man. Does CEO!Hoseok eventually change thanks to you or do old habits die hard and just leave you in a world of hurt? Again if it’s Hoseok he can be the biggest jerkface and I’d still be charmed.
@dovechim
Shorts/Drabbles: the ocean (mermaid!Jimin) + drabble
Because goddammit mermaid!Jimin is cute okay??! (and I love me a good supernatural au of any sort) You’re a ballet dancer going to Busan Arts and stumble upon Jimin chillin’ in the water by the beach. You mistake him as fellow peer but hey he shows up to your class anyways (totally rocks the dance thing) but then as time passes, you find that something is quite...fishy about him.
Series: It’s okay, that’s love (splitpersonality!Jimin)
No not the drama. Okay so a shrink is still involved and that’s played by you and you’ve got water polo player!Jimin who has split personality disorder (he’s scary when he’s angry...) as your patient, except he doesn’t know about this ‘other self’ of his. As if feelings aren’t already making things complicated, imagine accidentally finding yourself rooming with him (along with your other favourite boys).
@hobibliophile
Okay so I might’ve read all of their Jimin stuff and yes. All yes (warning: they’re +18 stuff soooo)
The only other fic I’ve read from them is Ambrosia (M) starring Fallen Angel!Hoseok....I like supernatural au fics alright. Fallen angel or not, Hobi is still super sweet and since this is a series, we don’t know what the reason was and MAJOR CLIFFHANGER!
@jimlingss
Series: Beyond Reach (ghost!Hoseok) ft. Reaper!Namjoon and other ghosties
This shit made me nearly cry five times....FIVE TIMES. I say nearly because I don’t like crying so it took literally all my willpower to not (ended up with a runny nose though). ANGST AS SHIT. Has some triggering stuff involving death so be warned. It’s a good read though....BUT SAD AS HELL (at least it’s completed :’))
One Shot: Head Over Heels to Hell (reverse soulmate!AU, Childhood Friends to Enemies to Lovers! Hoseok x reader)
Oh yes, this was a WILD RIDE. Goddamn it’s like you hate the man but then in the end that shit got me emotional for some reason like djgskh good shit good shit (you have gone through multiple different lives meeting Hoseok, all of which he screws you over somehow but in the end of it all... perhaps things could still work out??)
Series: The Deli Diaries (produce! Jimin x Deli worker!you) fluff, slow-burn
Holy shit this is cute af. It’s so mundane (guess that’s a fair warning??) but just reading the way the relationship develops is just....ahh!!! I want my own cute Jimin who pines after my dumbass TAT
Series: Jungle Park (Workplace Romance AU, Lawyer! Hoseok x New HR Manager!Reader) fluff, slow-burn, slice of life, a little angst **NEW
A long series for those of you who love to read chapter fics! Oh my God this was a thrilling ride of emotions! The pacing is amazing, each chapter you’re hooked on wanting to see more development on the history between these two so it’s worth a read! I love how Hoseok is portrayed here; it’s like a piece of how he would be in real life is put into just another scenario (Also hate how reader is like... relatable in a way where I also majored in HR so...WHERE’S THE OFFICE ROMANCE LIFE TRAIN GONNA HIT ME WITH THAT??)
Three Shot: Magic & Mysteries (Familiar/Hybrid!Jimin x Witch! Reader) fluff, a little angsty, comedy, romance **NEW
A three shot series involving what the title says! Magic! It’s a little adventure tale of our reader who’s a witch struggling to find her place in terms of specialty and overcoming some fears and insecurities with the help of sassy (but secretly cares a lot) Jimin who’s a wizard cursed to be a dog (that looks like Chimmy!) It’s cute and pretty wholesome in my opinion :)
Also an honorable mention from them is the Service Series (it’s fluffier dw) and honestly their other fics are definitely worth a read :D
@7cypher
Oneshot: Devil’s Advocate (devil/demon!Jimin)
Ironic how despite being a devil Jimin is still the sweetest being to exist. Devil!Jimin walks into your life abruptly and worms his way into your heart with his devilishly good looks and sweet charms. It’s hella cute, a slightly angsty ‘defining’ moment that actually had me tearing up a bit??? (I’m a sap for sweet, tender affection like the ones that happened in here okay??) but it all ends well :)
@seokkbuns
I’ve read most of their Hoseok and Jimin stuff but I think all of their fics are worth a read!

Oneshot: Cover You In Constellations (Hoseok x reader fic)
I’ve read this a while ago but keep coming back to it because oh god this was cute, so domestic and so fluffy like this is the kinda shit I would pull if I had a boyfriend like Hoseok like skdjfskgha. I like the way writer portrays Hoseok because it feels so like what I imagine he would react. Hoseok deserves all the love ;_;

Series: My Boss, The Vampire (Vamp!Jimin x reader fic)
Two parts are out so far and I’m loving the premise! New office worker with notoriously hot CEO Park Jimin who has a secret to hide (guess what it is). One day, you find out what it is and so now what?? Things get steamy ;D Also, the title of it is so K-dramaesque and I don’t know! I like the charm it adds to it!

Honestly all of their fics are worth a read because they flawlessly combine story building with any kind of genre you can think of. Some are smutty, some of fluffy and some are just downright angsty but you just want to read them all regardless!

Series: Nine-One-One (Detective!Jimin x First Responder! Reader) fluff, angst, romance, old flame au, future smut, and other mature themes!
This is thrilling! In both romantic and story aspects! The base story line is that there’s a serial murderer on the loose who’s been stalking reader and Jimin and his team are on the case about it. They’ve both got romantic history with each other and as old feelings resurfaces, so does the situation as things hit a little too close to home. Obviously with serial murderers involved, there is mentions of death, suicide and well...the warnings there!
A03 Fics
*will be pretty rare on this list; am I the only one who finds it super hard to find good fics on there?
Author: kimtrain
I swear they had a tumblr before since that’s the only reason why I remember them and their fics. Thankfully they’re all there still and all of them are 👌👌👌 Mermaid!Hoseok AU and the Hybrid!AU are my faves.
Fic: Warm Blood by ARMY_BRAT
The one instance where my weakness for supernatural AUs + wanting to read something paid off. MC is an ARMY but also a grim reaper so what happens when BTS shows up on her list, destined to die? Well, she says NOT TODAY but that just throws EVERYTHING out of the loop, leaving her to fix it.
Went into it with a grain of salt (ngl description was...ehh) BUT was pleasantly surprised! Digging the writing style which made MC really likeable so far and the AU strongly reminds me of Goblin: The Lonely God but focusing more on the grim reaper side of things which, personally, I was WAY more interested in even with the drama so yay! :D Glad someone took inspiration from it. Still ongoing and fairly new so dsfajdkas
Fic: Three Pints Full by Valkook **NEW
Woah it’s a vampire/supernatural fic! A little on the mature side because there’s well...blood...a little bit of death mentioned...and smut... BUT a really compelling story! Set mainly as a Cop/Detective! Reader who’s been assigned to solving some mysterious deaths/murders happening in the wild parts Montana joined in with appearances by Hunter/Tracker!Yoongi, Partner!Hoseok and Vampire!Jimin, Jungkook and more!
