The most fascinating thing to me about The Legend of Vox Machina is that while it’s an adaptation with a separate continuity to Critical Role, many aspects of the show have wound their way back into the main canon.

Most visibly this can be seen with the design of Emon. Prior to The Legend of Vox Machina, the map of Emon looked like this, with the Central District located to the West of the Cloudtop District, which was located in the very center of the city. This map by Andy Law is how it appeared in the original Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting book.

However for The Legend of Vox Machina, the city was redesigned, and he Cloudtop was moved to be next to the Port of Emon, and a river was added.

And when the official map was updated for Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn, the map was re-drawn to match its appearance in The Legend of Vox Machina, and all further appearances in other official art and comics has reflected that. The tall Palace of the Sovereign / Cloudwatch Palace has become the icon of the city.

But Emon’s design isn’t the only thing that’s been brought into the main series canon, the same goes for Whitestone! Most notably Whitestone Castle, shown here in the concept art for The Legend of Vox Machina:

The same castle design can be seen in the official cover art for the Welcome to Tal’Dorei album cover. Note the tall spire with the star and moon on the tip.

Additionally, in the most recent episode of Campaign 3, Matt described the buildings as looking like they were re-fashioned from boats. This concept was created for Whitestone’s appearance in The Legend of Vox Machina, as outlined in the preview video The Legend of the World of The Legend of Vox Machina.

Additionally, Laudna’s backstory of being invited into the castle to dine with the Briarwoods comes from its depiction in The Legend of Vox Machina.

In the main canon, it was implied until Laudna’s appearance in Campaign 3 that the hanging victims were simply rounded up off the streets by the Pale Guard and killed. The following is a quote from episode 1x31 “Gunpowder Plot”, where Vax interrogated a Pale Guard after killing Count Tylieri:

But we're keeping guard on them. We were supposed to stop this insurrection. These people. We rounded up folks. We were given basic descriptions and we hung people against the Sun Tree as a warning.

This isn’t to say that Laudna’s backstory contradicted this, but there was no indication of being invited to the castle on a pretense of dinner during the first campaign.

Finally on a more minor note, the design of at least one character has been retained from The Legend of Vox Machina, Sir Gregory Fince. The character was mentioned in the backstory for Campaign 1, but the show was the first time he was depicted.
