lemme tell you im starting to get a little sick of when im complaining about when a show or movie is writing a major female character with not as much depth as her male cohorts or she's written oddly plot device-like for a main character and people always tell me "oh but it's intentional, we're seeing her through the eyes of the male main character and he has a crush on her so he doesnt see her flaws" because like
FIRST of all yeah i get it but its hard to write that trope interestingly to me at this point without a lot of work put into subversion so intentionality doesnt make it any less boring
SECONDLY half the time people say this about ensemble cast stuff and like why is the random dude suddenly designated as the most perspective of all perspective characters when it comes to this specific woman. why dont we get to see the other characters perspectives on her too?
AND THIRDLY do people view women they have crushes on as bland plot devices without lives of their own enough irl that this is so universal in writing? isnt the point of having a crush wanting to hang out and know more about your crush, know about their likes and dislikes and all that. am i missing something here

The Gift
Synopsis
When the Slitheen's latest scheme to destroy Earth for profit is foiled, another family from the Slitheen's planet arrive, the Blathereen. Though they seem helpful, can they be trusted? As a generous gesture of peace, the Blathereen gift the gang with a plant called Rakweed, which could end world hunger. However, the Rakweed goes wild, spreading spores about London and infecting people, including Luke. Sarah Jane must fight alone, not only to save the Earth, but also her son. Meanwhile, Clyde smuggles K9 into school to help him cheat at a test, and he, Rani and the metal dog find themselves trapped in the school — surrounded by Rakweed. Can the team work together across Ealing — and Antarctica — to prevent Rakweed from devouring the entire planet?

finished season 2 of miraculous ladybug!
I dont mean to sound nitpicky about a children's show meant for children. Buuut it feels a little weird to me that the neglect/abuse Adrien experiences from his father is never played for laughs, but Chloes extremely horrible mom being awful to her is literally the whole punchline of their relationship?
Like I realize part of it is "Well Chloe is mean too, so they can bond over how awful they are Together", but that just makes me feel kinda icky because it means Chloe can never improve as a person UNLESS she's fine with her mother not loving her lol

the thing is splinter is genuinely a dogshit ninja. that’s part of the reason he was never interested in it, and being the leader of the clan- he was bad at it. absolutely dreadful. the worst ninja in the entire clan. but now he’s the only ninja left of his clan, and a teacher to the turtles, so he’s gotta hype himself up as a great fighter. but unlike other iterations, splinter never spars against his own kids- he shows them the moves and then has them fight against themselves and calls it good. because if he did fight his kids, he’d get his ass absolutely handed back to him on a silver platter and he is NOT going to have that happen. he might be a coward but he’s still got an inkling of pride left.

I have been very aware of mortality as of late due to a lot of circumstances in my family that keep worsening and honestly having to grieve and accept the finality of death before someone is likely to die is so grim.
