How to deal with bad skincare days

Nowadays, we all are facing “bad” skin days at one point or another. This can lead to many different things for different people with varying skin types like acne, itchy, redness, lackluster complexion, or simply dull skin. ICM Week 8 and 9

WEEK 8, VIDEO PIXELS

We wanted to take some of Sharan’s fantastic monkey footage and just monkey around with it (haha). I found some creative coding sketches and we got to work layering the video, loaded as pixels, with some creative elements.

At first we wanted to see if we could make the shifting arcs (that I found on youtube and linked above) into the pixels of the video, creating cut up bits of video that scurried across the screen. Unfortunately, that was really hurting our brains, and after a visit to the ICM Help session we learned that would take numbers and calculations that we simply felt was above our current pay grade. We did entertain option #2, which was rendering elliptical versions of the videos and “faking” that effect by placing a video in each tile and manipulating it in minute ways in regards to the shifting arcs. We decided against this visual because the computing power necessary may be a bit nutty.

So we kept it simple! We got familiar with just calling videos, turning them to pixels, and learned a fun, deceptively simple creative code.

WEEK 9, MAKING A MIRROR

We were shooting ambitiously at first, trying to use ML to create a mirror that followed our position and shot point clouds out of the head in beautiful ways. I personally wasn't sure if working with something so unfamiliar was fair as much of the code would be copy pasted and just patched together for our mirror. In the end we decided to go with a repurposing of our old portrait codes and using the new mic input that we learned this past week. Our mirror modifies the pixels of the live capture less but adds an element of play between users.

Moving forward, pairing ML with this sort of thing would be really fun! Sort of like making Animojis!

Conversation script - research

Research for the phone call section of the script (Ordinary Days)

We would like to be experimental with the way the phone calls are shown. The first image from ‘Going in Style’ uses a split screen between the three characters to show them all at once during the conversation, similar to the four way call from ‘Mean Girls’. This allows the audience to see a characters reaction to something they are being told. Another possibility would be to use unconventional angles such as in ‘In the mood for love’ which would allow us to show some of the characters surroundings, perhaps which reveal something about them, as they are on the call. The clip from ‘Good Will Hunting’ shows a more generic style of phone scene, where each character is shown as they speak, with a voiceover whenever they are not shown on screen. I liked this scene because it has similar themes to ‘Ordinary Day’; a relationship that is breaking down, and although the tone isn’t the same as what we would aim for, I still think it is a good source of inspiration.
