Weren't we all starving just a couple episodes ago? (I've gone back to Battlestar Galactica og) I know we landed on the planet where the locals were fattening people up to be eaten but...
Also, the plucky fighter pilot is getting married to the widow with the kid. Already? We're four episodes in. I know people do get married quickly, particularly in times of stress, but it just feels... Like, the mormonism of it all gets more noticeable, I guess? Or, like, a very trad way of looking at the world, where everything is comfortable and clean-cut and wealthy in a way where it's like poverty doesn't even exist, a boy meets a girl and therefore they get married because that's what happens and nobody really has any personality or individuality, just very clearly defined roles in life that inevitably get fulfilled, like lava flowing down a hill, inexorable.
The bad guys, too. They're impossibly weaselly and cowardly. And the ultimate bad guys, the ones calling the shots behind the villains, are all inscrutably duplicitous in a way that makes it obvious that they're going to trap and betray the traitors, but almost in a way that they're ultimately in the service of the greater higher power? Just, eeurgh. It's like watching those Happy Science animes.
"The Long Patrol" was the fifth episode of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, originally airing on October 15, 1978.
Lt. Starbuck, traveling incognito on a reconnaissance mission, is mistaken for an escaped prisoner from a penal colony where the descendants of criminals are incarcerated (and named) for the crimes of their ancestors. Arlene Martel (Star Trek's original T'Pring) plays the sultry Adulteress 58, who takes a liking to the Lieutenant.
The episode opens with Starbuck juggling dates between Athena and Cassiopeia on the same evening in the same restaurant, and it marks the end of any real animosity between the two rivals as they can both see the humor in the situation. I love how the table linens on the Rising Star match the dining room wallpaper.
I’ve posted content about this Battlestar Galactica moment like twice already on my sideblog but for reasons that should be rather obvious I’m not done with it yet so now I’m sharing it here so even non-fans can appreciate how pretty this man would look sucking d– [gets shot by D*rk Benedict himself]
