prompted by a baffling conversation with one of my friends + overall trends with events like big bangs. apparently i am deeply underestimating the amount of, like, actual consumption crossover between fanartists and fanwriters. i've been operating under the assumption that the majority of fanartists don't read fanfic and that fanfic is a relatively niche thing mostly shared between fanwriters with a few outlier exceptions. like, that the "communities" or w/e are relatively separate??
this is possibly because i've been out of "fandom" for a few years (or bc im not on twitter/insta where the artists hang out), but i feel like most of my friends are other fanwriters and most of the people who actively engage with fanfic on tumblr/ao3 are also fanwriters (and vice-versa with fanartists gravitating to each other). however. my friend disagrees? neither of us are actually artists tho so i'm putting the question out to the crowd. (more thoughts) ->
side note: i didn't include an option for being BOTH a fanartist/fanwriter because 1) you're like rare and exotic birds to me 2) i'm trying to figure out who falls into which category based on what community you "identify" with the most. if you write the occasional fanfic but you mostly think about/create fanart, you're a fanartist; if you mostly write fanfic but every now and then will think about/make some art, you're a fanwriter. the group you're more likely to engage with. that kinda thing.
side note 2: you will see i have included an option for fanwriters who don't/rarely read fanfic. i know you exist because that is my category. i read fanfic but do so rarely these days. i'm selective because i dont have a lot of time on my hands. this is possibly another reason why i feel like engagement between fanwriters is so high, because if i'm going to engage with a fanfic i'm gonna put my whole ass into it since that's the kind of engagement that makes me happiest from a writer's perspective.
for reference, when i say "engagement" i'm talking about leaving kudos, comments on ao3, asks/comments on tumblr, tags on reblogs... that kinda thing.
with all of this in mind, this could literally just be because fanfic writers are more willing to engage with other writers bc of their own shared hobby and/or because fanfic writers know what kind of engagement theyd prefer on their own fics and act accordingly--and non-writer/artists are just more willing to engage in general because that's the primary way you participate in fan communities. on the flip side, fanartists might just straight up be a really quiet bunch... possibly because your thing (affectionate) is "visual" more than "verbal" (if that makes sense).
basically... this is exactly what i'd like to know LOL.

All my heart goes to the admins
Unpaid artwork is theft.
Unpaid acting work is exploitation.
Some devs were barely paid, same for builders. Eggs' admins weren't paid for their rp job.
Translations? Unpaid.
Background checks? Never done.
People got fired for being burned out or not available due to personal issues. They were FIRED, from a VOLUNTEER post that was UNPAID for not being ''available enough'' (which doesn't seem to be a very defined criteria)
Lea got paid 169€.
The minimum wage in France is (very roughly) 1200€.
A plastic figurine isn't compensation for all of that unpaid work.
It's a nice gift, at most, and here, it mostly feels like a joke.
The admins are the backbone of the server, from lore planning, translations, roleplay, builds, devs, art, clips and art gathering, designs...
Without them, the QSMP literally wouldn't be able to function.
2.
That's the number of french admins on the mc server. There's only one left now.
Let's remember how the french ccs kept getting forgotten about. And now, let's realize that Lea said that multiple times, they had to quickly add stuff about the french because the others had forgotten.
It happened often enough to be noticed by the viewers.
It happened even more behind the scenes.
To say that i feel sick is an understatement.
Pay your artists.
Pay your employees.
Not allowing them to speak to each other only reveals how wrong you know you are: if there was nothing to hide, you wouldn't be scared to let them talk.
(oh and also: not allowing ANONYMOUS people to express themselves about ABUSERS? That's fucked. Support Shelby and all the victims, always.)

it’s also baffling to me that tumblr, home of the ‘why are white men Still being cast as the doctor’ for So many years now (For you know, like over a decade.) is somehow not appalled that they hired a white dude to be the next Doctor because look okay it’s okay if it’s This white man.
I mean, I do not consent to acknowledge that they’ve shoved him in there under any circumstance, but my Only need for the casting of the next person was that it was Not a white man, otherwise i didn’t care who it was, so when they “announced” Gatwa I was satisfied (i am hesitant to say they announced it bc it was more like a tiny footnote than an announcement, oh the disrespect) and it took a whole seven days (it was literally seven days. Yes i counted. it was easy since it was only seven days) it was ‘actually sorry no it’s this white dude we’ve already had before did we forget to mention that???’ and it’s steadily gotten worse and worse.
That This site of all places is not up in arms about both the situation and how it specifically played out is depressing, but also massively and darkly hilarious.
Especially since i Also remember nobody on this site thought casting Whittaker was good enough but literally going backward to a previous white man is?? This is not even a metaphor about diversity getting worse, they literally looked backwards.
But, yeah,  tenn/ant with the ‘what the future looks like’ headline is uh... Good???? Not super worrying and ominous?
I feel like i’ve been dumped in some weird parallel universe by reactions to all of this on here like??? the whole way this was done was appalling, the situation is appalling, but i guess the bbc/disney should get a rousing round of applause for accurately judging that nobody would care about their poor actions if the specific white guy they cast was popular enough that next to nobody would care.
( and to the ‘it’s an anniversary ep’ thing, they legit could have just set a couple of eps in the past. i don’t mean they travel to the past. i mean just say ‘hey this ep is set during s4!’ and nobody would care. this show does weirder stuff than this every second episode. and it would still be bad, but how they did it is so much Worse.)

Since the topic was brought up again and I also don't think it's the reason the game gave us--do you have any theories why Barbatos might be so upset with Solomon?
Personally I feel like it might have to do with MC somehow, and that the whole Number 8 thing was just a pretense so Barbatos wouldn't have to say the actual reason in front of MC......
Well, to begin with, I absolutely agree with you, Melody. I think Barbatos was just saying that because he didn't want to tell MC the real reason.
This got a little lengthy & there are some spoilers, so I'm going to put it under the read more!
I very much think that there is something else going on between Solomon and Barbatos, that it has to do with Nightbringer and thus MC and their trip into the past, and whatever it is, Barbatos doesn't feel like he can speak about it freely.
I have thought since the beginning that Barbatos knows what's going on with Nightbringer. He makes some comments that indicate as much and the fact he gave MC a piece of his grimoire for Belphie's episode... he just knows too much to not be in on at least part of it.
Solomon definitely knows more than he's telling MC, as evidenced by the conversation he has with Nightbringer in season 1.
It seems to me that it's possible that whatever Barbatos knows and whatever Solomon knows is the same thing. Or at least there's probably some overlap in their knowledge.
All of that kind of leads me to a couple different theories about what it is that Barbatos could actually be upset about.
If Barbatos is Nightbringer, he could just be upset that Solomon is there at all. Solomon says that he came back to the past on his own, which means it wouldn't have been part of Nightbringer's plan for him to be there to begin with. If Barb is Nightbringer, he could just be upset that Solomon is messing with his plans.
I think it's also possible that someone else is masquerading as Solomon at least part of the time. We know that Michael at least can take on the entire appearance and personality of someone else. So that makes me think maybe Barbatos is aware that it isn't really Solomon and therefore isn't actually angry at Solomon at all, but at whoever is pretending to be him. This one admittedly feels like a bit of a stretch, but I also don't really think Barb is Nightbringer, either.
It could be that Barbatos is not Nightbringer, but is working with Nightbringer for some reason. And he's upset at Solomon for getting in the way?
It's just that Barbatos doesn't seem to be actively getting in Solomon's way. So even if Solomon being there wasn't part of the plan, it doesn't seem to be interfering. Which makes me think that this just isn't enough of a reason for Barbatos to be so angry that he's hurling insults.
I have other thoughts, but they all revolve around it being revealed that either Barbatos or Solomon (or both of them) are keeping massive secrets from MC. But I always end up writing myself in circles because I can't figure out the motives for either Barbatos or Solomon in any of these cases lol.
Mostly it's just a ~feeling~ that there's more to all this and that Barbatos just said the first thing that came to his mind so that he wouldn't have to tell MC the real reason.

grabbing fistfuls of my own hair rocking back and forth repeating to myself like some kind of fucked up wizardly enchantment you should care about womens sports because its literally the same fucking sport why do i have to bend over backwards to convince you to care about womens sports like at an abstract level it is the exact same fucking thing and yet you cannot bear to possibly watch it unless you think the women are hot or there is some sort of social gain why is it so hard for you to care about womens sports when they are literally doing all of it better than the men

Vegetta heard that some members of the server are scared of him and he was like "Why? I'm not even a tryhard, I was the last person to get slime armor" and I'm like... Vegetta people are already scared of you, WHY would you respond to that with "But this isn't even 1% of my true power''
#i talk#qsmp talk#Vegetta be like ''This isn't even my final form''#Vegetta be like ''well if you're going to be scared of me at least let me give you a good reason for it /pos'' lmao#It's always so baffling to me (as a KarmaIand fan) seeing how Vegetta's depicted in Fool/igetta fanworks#because the way people often depict Foolish as this incredibly powerful demigod (only sometimes incorporating his actual personality / lore#is how people depicted Vegetta (minus the ''we're disregarding his personality'' part that sometimes happens) in Karmaland#Like it's almost a perfect reverse uno in terms of how people depict Vegetta in KarmaIand vs Q.S.M.P#I'm not mad about it or anything I'm just genuinely amused by how people manage to underestimate him and STILL are afraid of him#like oh honey....... whatever Foolish's ties to immortality and godhood are pale in comparison to Vegetta's#(This is nothing against Foolish BTW his lore on the previous server was fun and I'm bitter we never got to see more of it)#(The entire death totem thing was sick and also the concept of totem gods is so interesting)#The way Vegetta is depicted in Karmaland is very strange#he seems like a being (not necessarily a god but definitely something powerful)#who made their world then stepped back so he could be a part of it#So even though he respects the guidance of elders like Merlon#(to some degree)#and talks about the ''gods'' (admins) as higher powers#the world still bows to him#and that includes the QSMP world#realistically we know this is because every single admin adores Vegetta and grew up with him#but we're looking at this through a lore lense#I can get into this more later - I feel like I should elaborate on my thoughts here and add some canon backing to explain myself a bit more#but you get the jist#Me: let's post a silly little thought about the minecraft series I'm watching#Also me: LET ME CITE MY SOURCES -#Listen man you can't unlearn some things#I'm a professional writer it's in my nature

I feel like chris chibnall wrote this on a deadline but put it off until the last five minutes and was like "ok that looks good drop it" without even doing a read through. just. huh????

i will never stop being confused about people saying og lloyd was maltreated. like. what the fuck are you talking about. it's not maltreatment if you verbally and physically abuse and harass the people around you and then people start avoiding you and talking shit about you. that is called Consequences Of Your Actions and it's literally the least og lloyd should've gotten for the shit he pulled. like. someone very well could have decided not to take his bullshit and beaten his ass easily at any point. but they didn't. no one ever fucking did. javier is the closest we ever get to that and it was one (1) punch to get him to stop destroying someone's home and business. show me where is the maltreatment. cite your sources. tell me where can i find it. if you're gonna say something with your whole chest please tell me you've at least read the source material and aren't just explaining your headcanons as if they're facts. show me the fucking receipts ajsdhksf

I'm really worried about the anti-intellectual, anti-critical thinking, 'no degree, no opinion' sentiment I'm seeing in some science graduates. Like, you don't actually need a degree in a relevant field to read articles and understand articles, form opinions, or ask educated questions, and pretending otherwise just risks insulating the field from criticism (and science should be subject to lay/'outsider' criticism - it's 'objective' and 'factual' processes/findings are underpinned by the same social damn biases and vested interests as any other field).

i think it's semi-common to have girl characters in naruto be disproportionately upset about things like killing animals for food, but what if INSTEAD young kunoichi in training have weird vaguely occult girl culture things like in irl. sakura and ino have 100% caught and killed a squirrel together and then performed some sort of Ritual with it that they heard from the cousin of a friend, and that's just normal for academy aged girls. sakura still has a necklace of rabbit ears somewhere.
note that IRL kids capturing and killing animals for fun and games is worrying behavior, but i think WITHIN THE CONTEXT of training a small child to murder in a fictional universe, this would be considered normal and encouraged play
