title: "my friend hervé leclerc, father of charles, the young and talented f1 driver" source: sylviebourgeois.com year: 2021
At the moment, in the evening, I fall asleep to a documentary on F1. It's quite poorly done with a montage of images cut very quickly and hysterical music in order to create sensationalism, while this world of speed is sensational enough in itself, there is no need to add more. But what I love are the interviews with these young drivers who, for some, like Charles Leclerc or Esteban Ocon, started in F1 when they were barely 20 years old, they are my two favorites. Esteban because he has a good state of mind, and Charles because I knew his dad, Hervé.
I met Hervé Leclerc in Cap-d'Ail when I was 18 years old. His stepfather Charles Manni was my mother's childhood friend. We met again in Paris, when I was coming up from Besançon, in a truck, with my brother, another Hervé, 7 years older than me, and his best friend, Serge, studying, like him, in architecture. [...]
[...] That year, [my brother and his friend] regularly went to Paris to see construction sites or girls, I don't know anymore. I often jumped into their home-office truck and went to see Hervé Leclerc who spoke to me about his passion for cars and his dream of being an F1 driver. He lived with his grandmother, an exceedingly elegant lady who helped him financially in his desire to become a future champion. I saw Hervé again, a year later, when I went to live alone in Cap-d'Ail in my mother's vacation home that she had inherited from her own mother, more precisely, the half-house, her older sister having inherited from the other party. I wanted to earn my living, to be independent, I worked as a hostess in Monaco and took evening classes to learn how to design clothes.
In the meantime, Hervé Leclerc had done a lot of racing in F3, he was very fast. The manager of the Châtre circuit believed in him and wanted to push him to succeed, but another racer who had more experience than him in karting, became their official racer. Hervé was terribly disappointed. He continued training and racing, but his pain at not being chosen turned into an obsession. He moved in with his mother, Monique, a very beautiful woman, who had started a new life near Monaco with Charles Manni, my mother's childhood friend. Charles was poor as a child, perhaps the only poor person in Monaco. He had made his fortune supplying mechanical parts to the automobile industry, and had built his factory in Fontvieille, a district of the Principality located under the zoo where an elephant cried night and day, and a stone's throw from the old port where my parents and Charles had their sailboats.
[...] About ten years later, Hervé Leclerc got married and projected his love of cars, his will, his talent, his F1 desires, his humor, his good humor and his kindness onto his sons whom he initiated very early in karting. The ghost of the former kart racer's victory, which cost him his destiny as champion, certainly had something to do with it. Very quickly, Hervé Leclerc was able to admire the victories of his sons who never stopped winning and climbing the ranks, but alas, he was not able to see the destiny of Charles, his second child, who made his dream come true. and that of his father to become an F1 driver.

Ventimiglia #47
It was a beautiful sunny warm November morning and we decided to hop on a train to our favorite beach in Cap D'Ail.
The water there is crystal clear and the pebbles are just the right size to be comfortable enough to sit on while not getting stuck between your toes. Next to the beach we saw a bunch of bananas growing on trees, we couldn’t believe our own eyes! In the afternoon we spontaneously decided to go to Italy and we took a train from Cap D’Ail to Ventimiglia. It’s surprising how different the nature looks there, it’s definitely greener as if it rains more. The first thing we did in Italy was to sit down for an espresso and then buy our favorite Ligurian foods from the grocery store: Genovese fruit cake, trofie and nut sauce which we just ate together with Adrian.

Week 6: Nice
Dobrý den! Or Bonjour! My week started off with a not very good start. On Monday (the day I left for Nice), I woke up very sick and was not able to attend class since I wanted to get better for the trip. In our program, you can only miss class 3 times, so this was the first time I missed class. During the afternoon I started feeling better so I had more energy to head to the airport to go to Nice! It is very easy to get to the airport, since you only have to take the metro, and then switch to a bus that takes you directly there. When we got to Nice, we stayed at a very good airbnb, since it was located right in the center of the old town, and was very nice.

Our first day in the South of France was spent by exploring Nice and going to the beach. We went to the parc de la colline du château which was very pretty. In the park there were a bunch of lookout spots in Nice, and the nature there was amazing. There was also a waterfall that seemed man made, and was very nice. We then headed to the beach and stayed there all afternoon. Beaches in most of Europe are not sandy beaches, so when we laid out our towels or had to walk without shoes, it hurt a bit. The water was also gorgeous and very very blue. After that, we headed to another beach that was a 20 minute walk away to go cliff jumping. After that, we decided to go to the beach again and eat some pizza for dinner. We got to see the sunset and enjoyed being at the beach for a long time.

The next day we headed to Cannes for a boat trip! We got on the train from the station at Nice, and went to Cannes. We arrived a little earlier to get to explore a little and have some breakfast before getting on the boat. The boat trip was a very fun experience, since we got to see the beautiful views of the South of France, as well as jump in the ocean and have fun in the water. The boat included kayaks, floaties, snorkels, and life vests so that you could do many activities. When we got back to Cannes. We headed to the train station to go back to Nice. We went out for a nice dinner and had such good pasta. We decided to get a big portion so that we would have dinner for the next day! After dinner, we walked around for a bit and got a feel of the night life in Nice to go out the next day.

Day 3 we went to Eze and Monaco! We went by bus to Eze, since it took us to the top and saw the beautiful gardens. We then had to catch our train to Monaco, but we decided to take the allegedly 20 minute walk down (it was actually like a 40 minute walk). After our hike down, we went to Monaco and saw the famous Casino, as well as the Prince’s Palace of Monaco. We then went back to Nice, had a power nap, and decided to go out that night. We had a fun night, and got back to the airbnb and slept a lot since we were very tired from the long day.

Our final full day in Nice we decided to go to a beach in Cap-d'Ail, and it was soooo pretty. We had to take a little 15 minute walk to get to the beach, but it was very worth it. The beach had the most beautiful crystal clear water I have ever seen and it was not as crowded as the beach in Nice. We stayed there the whole day and enjoyed our last day of the ocean, as we are not going to see it again in a while. We got back to Nice after our long day at the beach, and got ready for dinner. We admired the sunset before and then ate at a restaurant in the main square. I had a lot of fun on the trip and I already miss it sooo much!!!
