Before Paldea was announced I wanted to theorize about a Pokemon region based on Portugal. and then we got the Iberian Peninsula, but let's be frank, it was basically just Spain.

I predicted the Iberian Lynx starter, but mine would have been a quadruped.

Calflint and Dullphin were based on a a type of cattle from northern Portugal and a Portuguese Man-o-war (the boat not the jellyfish):

I also had a regional version of Furfrou based on a Portuguese water dog:

it was not Water type but could learn some water moves.

Then these two, a regional version of Spinda that ate the grass and poison type Toxuva (that represents the wine industry) and got drunk as a result:

and the mythical of the region, the ghost and fairy type Baroaster, based on the tale of the Galo de Barcelos:

there was barely any Portuguese representation in Scarlet and Violet... the most Portuguese thing was a Brazilian Duck... Thanks Gamefreak.

Did you know that the Tamagotchi Uni has region specific content, more specifically region specific rooms? That’s right. When you first boot your Tamagotchi Uni, you’re asked to select a destination which is one of eight regions. The regions are Japan, North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Middle East, Oceania and Africa.

Each region has one wallpaper that is unique to it. It is also important to note that Tamagotchi Uni caretakers cannot change their region after the initial boot, and to do so you would have to reset your device. Which region specific room is your favorite?

It's a bit on the rough side, but a starting attempt at designing another Pokemon region, known as the Westia Region. It's based off of the Great Lakes and Midwest. I figure I'll likely try to work more on it at some point and maybe make it a bit better little by little.

The Westia Region is a largely easy going region with a 'down home' feel to it. The people seem to be largely friendly and willing to help out those in need.

The region sports a long history dealing with the expansion westward that led into the expansive frontier, full of rolling great plains ranches, cowboys and all manner of similar aspects.

Westia also has a long history pertaining to the native people and overall mysticism. There actually are no official gyms in the region, and instead it has a system seemingly similar to the Island Trials of Alola.

Dotted around the region are a group of giant, massive trees known as the Heart Trees. These trees absorb the ambient life energy, will, and spirit within the region and recycle it all back into the very Earth itself, giving life to the region in a continuous cycle.

Assuming there are some focus protagonists of this region, the starting town resides on the small island in one of the lakes.

French soldiers buying and reading newspapers at a kiosk in Rexpoede, in the far north of France (Department Nord, Region Nord-Pas-de-Calais) September 1917. The town is just 20 miles from Ypres, in Belgium, where the Battle of Passchendaele was being fought at this time. The battle was one of the bloodiest of the entire war, but is perhaps more infamous for the mud. The worst rains to hit the Flanders region for 30 years turned parts of the battlefield into a quagmire so deep that men and horses drowned in it.
