Fantasy author shares her secret - how to gamify your life
Fantasy author shares her secret - how to gamify your life
Is your life boring? It won't be after this episode!! Not only will Jodi L. Milner take you away into her Fantasy world, don't worry it is appropriate for the whole family, but you will also learn how to gamify your life and make everything you do more fun!
When Jodi L. Milner, a suburban housewife and author of the epic Young Adult Fantasy trilogy 'The Shadow Barrier', finds herself challenged by the 'try fail cycle' of life, she embarks on an adventure to discover a new way of conquering her goals.
"I strongly believe that everybody is the hero of their own story and sometimes our heroes have to do things that aren't really fun to do. Even heroes have to do their laundry sometimes."
Jodi L. Milner is an author of the Young Adult Fantasy trilogy, Stone Bear's Betrayal, Stone Bear's Apprentice and Stone Bear's Redemption. She is passionate about helping people gamify their lives to make everyday tasks more enjoyable.
Jodi L. Milner embarked on a journey of self-discovery, learning to gamify her life in order to make mundane tasks more fun. She realized that by changing her mindset and looking at tasks as challenges, she could bring an element of adventure and excitement to her life. Through her journey she learned that failure is just an opportunity to try again, and that rewards can be found in accomplishing even the smallest of tasks. With her newfound knowledge and a pack of 200 stickers, Jodi was ready to take on the world.
In this episode, you will learn the following: 1. Discovering how to create a character by mixing elements from various people and characters. 2. Exploring the "action fantasy" genre and how to create an exciting and engaging story. 3. Learning how to re-frame mundane tasks as exciting side-quests.

Today Was Hard...
Today Was Hard…
Today was hard. Harder than almost every other day I’ve had lately.         And I’ve spent the entirety of it trying to explain away my feelings. But, have you ever been so angry, so frustrated, and sad, and anxious all at the same time that you didn’t know what to say? Where you don’t know what to do with your hands, caught somewhere between laughing, crying, and screaming hysterically?…

To You.
Today, someone asked me what my favorite part of being a writer was.           When I didn’t have an immediate answer, they looked confused. So, I settled for saying that I just like telling stories. The truth, however, my dear is that I write for you. The you that’s had a long day. The you that I miss so dearly, it makes my heart ache. The you that I wish I could reach out and touch…

6-Hour ER Trips, Potato Soup, & 7up.
6-Hour ER Trips, Potato Soup, & 7up.
Yesterday sucked.             So much so, that this is about to be a very quick and to the point post. Yesterday at 1:30pm I had an appointment with Dr. Klein about my foot. She thinks my issues now are nerve related- especially since I’m still unable to move my toes. However, when Matt and I were on the way to my appointment, I started having very sharp chest pains.            …

“Your Labs Came Back Looking Good…”
Yep. You know, the most frustrating six words in the entire English language. Because, when you’re a chronically ill human being, like I am, those are not the words that you need or want to hear. You’d think that they are- any healthy person would LOVE to hear that there’s nothing wrong with them. A healthy person, would think that I am absolutely insane for wanting the doctor to tell…

Progress; Not Perfection.
I say those words to myself every day. Sometimes multiple times a day.          Progress; Not Perfection.          Because I am sometimes a perfectionist, and that is a problem. I’m not saying that I hate perfectionists, or anything silly like that. Just that, for me, perfectionism is a dangerous thing. I suffer wildly from imposter syndrome. Something that tells me that if I am not in…

Murphy’s Law (Chai’s Vet Appointment, My Surgery, & Healing.)
Murphy’s Law (Chai’s Vet Appointment, My Surgery, & Healing.)
On Monday, my brother came over to see me, and bring me cheese from Mars Cheese Castle in Kenosha, Wisconsin. (If you’ve never been there before, and you’re local, trust me, you need to go.) When doing so, he also brought along his girlfriend, Dana, and his friend Andy. He is absolutely enamored with my animals, and spent a solid twenty-minutes holding one of my ball pythons. Absolutely…

Do Your Best.
I didn’t really plan on writing a post for today. I thought that maybe, I could just skate by, and pretend like it wasn’t July, and like CampNaNoWriMo wasn’t in full swing. Because, before I found out that I had to have the DRG trial surgery on Wednesday, I decided I wanted to participate in Camo NaNoWriMo.           I came to this decision for two reasons. First, is that I let myself…

Trapped Inside. Suicide Disease.
I don’t even know what to say right now.           I don’t know what there is to say honestly because, every time I think too hard on this topic, I just want to scream. But instead… I get quiet. So quiet that, even the sounds of my own breathing is too much. So, I guess it’s fair to say that the topic I want to touch on today causes me a lot of internal and external pain, anxiety, and…

As With Everything, We Change & Grow.
As With Everything, We Change & Grow.
I am not a people person.             In fact, it’s come to my attention lately, that there are some who would say that I am not even a person at all. You see, unlike most 26-year-olds in 2021, I do not have many friends. Nor do I have many hobbies, or much that I like doing outside of m y own home. I am the definition of homebody if ever there was one.             I like simple…

October.
How can it be October already?           I tried to write this post yesterday but, I couldn’t. I didn’t believe that it was finally October. Today, I still don’t. Even though I usually live for this time of year, this year, and last year just don’t feel real. It all still feels like a bad dream. More than ever, right now, I’m reminded of the things that I’ve lost. Things I can’t do…

I’m Fine.
It’s 10:30pm, and I’m not feeling well. I should be in bed right now but, I’m not. I had an okay day, I guess. Went to the grocery store with my grandma, got some things we need for the rest of the week, and then I made ribs on the grill for dinner. It wasn’t particularly productive, and this week’s laundry is still sitting in the laundry basket behind me but, that’s okay.         You…

One-Year Later…
Wow…          So, if you’ve been following along with me for a while, you know that on August 21st, 2020, I fell down the stairs and messed up my left leg. What I was originally told was both a hairline fracture, and a sprained ankle has turned into a lifetime of pain, anger, and bitterness thus far.          A year ago today, I was on 600MG of ibuprofen every 6-hours to control the…

So, here I am with a little bit more on mjy self-imposed 100-Days of words mini writing challenge! Today was supposed to be Day #1 and so far, I’m…

Friday the 13th(Superstitions, Horror Movies, & Just Plain Spooky!)
Friday the 13th(Superstitions, Horror Movies, & Just Plain Spooky!)
Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day in Western superstitions. It occurs when the 13th day of the month in the Gregorian calendar falls on a Friday, which happens at least once every year but, can occur up to three times in one year. Ex. 2015 had a Friday the 13th in February, March, and November. Ex. 2017-2020 had 2 Friday the 13ths each; and the years 2021 and 2022 will both…
