Thousands take part in Exeter climate protest

Large crowds have gathered in Exeter city centre, as part of the largest ever global climate protest.

Those striking are calling for a Green New Deal that includes carbonising the UK economy by 2030 "in a way that enhances the lives of ordinary people and works to eliminate social and economic inequality".

Exeter City Council says it supports the sentiment behind the rally. Earlier in the year they pledged the city would become carbon neutral by 2030.

Large crowds have gathered in #Exeter city centre today, as part of the largest ever global climate protest.

Cllr Rachel Sutton, Lead Councillor for Climate and Culture, said: “We are committed to tackling the climate change emergency not just here in Exeter but across the planet. For a number of years the City Council has been devoting its energies to a number of projects that aim to reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment.

“We appreciate that many of our staff also feel strongly about saving the planet and for this reason we are happy for any member of staff who wishes to take part in tomorrow’s event to do so in their own time, provided that service delivery can be maintained to the public.

回転椅子のクッションを入れ替える

小学校入学の時から使っている回転椅子。人生の3分の2くらい(!)を共にしていますが、数年前からクッションのヘタリを感じるようになっていました。椅子のクッションの入れ替えはどうも難しそうでなかなか手が出せなかったのですが、やってみると思ったよりも簡単にできました。

まずはクッションの中身と工具の準備です。

東急ハンズで、チップフォーム20mmx500mmmx500mmとウレタンフォーム10mmx500mmx500mm、ダイソーでタッカーとタッカー用鍼を購入。総額1000円強?

椅子を分解します。このように座面が見える状態まで外していきます。

タッカーの針を外していきます。ホッチキスの針を抜く要領でどんどん外してきます。少し力がいりますが慣れるとサクサク取れるようになります。中身のクッション、薄い。

カバーが完全に取れました。これから交換するクッションとの比較です。 薄い...

カバーは再利用することにしたので、手もみ洗いできれいにします。乾かしている間に、新しく買ったクッションの中身を座面の形より一回り大きく切っていきます。

カバーが乾いたらいよいよタッカーの出番です。

カバー、ウレタンフォーム、チップフォーム、座面を重ねます。

もとの状態と同じように、カバーを巻き込んで座面にタッカーを打ちます。 タッカーは打つときにものすごい大きな衝撃音を出し、さらに打つときの衝撃で持ち手の部分に手を挟みそうだったので、耳栓と作業用手袋をつけました。ビビリです。 ひたすらに元の状態と同じになるように打ち続け、1周完全に固定できたら組み直します。

(思ったよりは硬いけど)まともなクッション性が戻ってきました!! 座っても快適!!

まだまだ使える椅子です。
