Nice to see that apparently we’ve all read it runs in the family. It was my guilty pleasure fic and i didn’t expect to see other people talking about it. I started reading it like a month after i got into bad and dsmp and i was /obsessed/. It’s one of those fics that changes your brain chemistry and makes you stare at a wall after reading it. To this day im still subbed to it on the off chance that it gets another chapter.

like genuinely its an enamoring fic it has an odd premise but like the author has so much potential in, like, being able to write genuinely engaging narratives. i'm shocked at how much setup is put into the work and you can tell where the narrative is going in a way that's like watching a trainwreck. You know exactly where it is going but the journey of getting there is so fascinating to watch.

anyway i want to ramble about what i liked and what i didn't like in the fic. so. huge reader discretion advised, go look at the other warnings i posted about this fic before reading this (also spoilers for the fic ahead)

like part of its most interesting facets is it is one of the few fics that tackles this sort of heavy subject matter of assault and kidnapping and doesn't really shy away from how genuinely negative it is and can be. like don't get me wrong ive enjoyed other psychological horror before, but it was, like, nice? to see the "pets" all be like genuinely upset and respond realistically to the situation they're in. no "they really like it secretly" undertone.

not a criticism but my favorite part of this story is the random ass normal human names they try to give everyone. they made skeppy have a white ass last name. bbh's name is Bad Halo. purpled doesn't even show up but his name is mentioned to be, like, "nolan purpled but he goes by purpled because his cheating whore of a mom named him nolan and he hates her" genuinely funniest line of the whole fic one of my favorites i can never ever forget it. i need to find all the human names in this theyre so fucking funny.

also badboyhalo? while he IS woobified and made much more demure and defanged, he's still like... that IS badboyhalo. his moments of complete suspicion at every encounter. his doubting. refusal to break the mould and rock the boat out if fear something bad would happen. VERY badboyhalo sentiments. also the fact the writer knew about skephalo divorce. going to be honest, looking at how their other work contains a6d, i think the writer was/is a bbh watcher. and then the schlatthalo. the fact they made schlatt ask to curse? and then bbh laughed when he did? this person understood both of these guys. they did their homework. schlatt isn't a megalomaniac evil villain one note. i don't know if i'd call both of them "in character" per say, but i can definitely say they had consistent characterization and i could understand how their characters got to these versions.

also the technohalo multifaceted concept? techno seeing bbh as too innocent? putting bbh on a pedestal and denying his humanity in that way? WILD. the setup and writing was all there for, like, bbh using his body and manipulating techno to turn against phil.

like the good parts of this fic are such crazy highs and peaks it makes the lows look so much worse.

speaking of which: wilbur soot.

by god is wilbur soot not a character, he is a force of nature and just continuous digging deeper on trying to fix a problem the writer accidentally started. none of sbi really are fleshed out or rounded characters, but wilbur soot is like by far getting the worst treatment. im not even a wilbur fan LOL.

he's supposed to be a schizophrenic serial killer which already isn't a great start, and then you watch the writer realize the issue and try to fix what they've started. this is when schizophrenic medicated slimecicle comes in. followed by badboyhalo looking at the camera and going Not All Mentally Ill People Are Bad. which was just really funny in such a morbid way. but then the writer DOES go in an interesting direction with phil denying his condition and refusing to help him get medicated. however with the slimecicle medicated moment it comes off as a medication = The Good Mentally Ill Person narrative. genuinely i dont know how id solve the wilbur issue without extensive rewriting. he's just a mess.

phil i think is one of the most interesting of sbi, being made into a central antagonist and a genuinely good villain. his scenes have well made tension and poses actual threat and stakes to the narrative. he's a good villain! techno has an interesting arc with bbh but just isn't given enough screentime and doesn't have much beyond "brute to be manipulated" which sucks a little. tommy is tommy. only one of sbi i could see not dying in a fire at the end. wilbur, despite his other issues is a narrative driver with his capriciousness, but the schizophrenia plotline is such a mess that he just is not a person here, he's a plot device more than anything.

more abstractly i do wish they committed and, like, had sex scenes or were blatant about sex happening. like they keep dancing around it but so much of the fic does not make sense if sex isn't what's occurring here. like i get subtlety if the avoidance of sex is what they're aiming for! but its okay to, like, maybe make it more clear whatever techno and bbh have going on is obviously sexual, because that can be used to advance the narrative and make it more clear bbh is using his body to manipulate here, because that'd be a good plot point to continue the themes and motifs of the story. i also just do not know how else to interpret the relationship lol.

my other biggest criticism is make it less misogynistic. the only three named women are the dead samsung smart fridge (who is now a dead mom named samantha), minx the alcoholic witness, and puffy, who is somehow ranboo's mom. like the ableism is horrific here but its so over the top stupid in the ableism, while the misogyny is subtle and just reeks. genuinely why is puffy ranboo's mom that sucks so fucking bad. make her be his aunt or guardian or something. but mom? c'mon.

i rambled way too long lol there's more i can say but this fic is my roman empire. the writer has so much potential but just needs more life experience to understand mental illness and misogyny. also a beta reader to fix their formatting. and maybe make their dialogue more human. shoutout to ranboo giving his name and phone number to tommy after tommy literally fucking tells him he'd "make a beautiful corpse" CRAZY exchange. no human would do that.

What fandoms are you in? And which genres do you tend to gravitate toward?

Okay so (and I apologize for the way too lengthy answer to this simple question) Fun fact about me: I have this nasty habit of always ending up in some of the worst possible fandoms. And yet somehow I've always managed to ignore the drama and bad stuff because I stuck closer to my own little corners of said fandoms (mainly focusing on memes and my own fics or favored fan content and don't interact with a larger majority of the fandom). But I actually have very few fandoms I can say I was actually "apart of" or are "in". Because really I don't...leave? Fandoms? I'll keep passive interest in them even as I get older but I won't actively participate or write fics for them anymore. And I have this thing where I aggressively hyperfixate on fandoms I'm in and I'll be part of them for years before I move on to another one.

So fandoms I'm in/have been interested in: MLP, FNAF, Undertale, Eragon, Warriors/Survivors (two series by the Erin Hunter team), Wings of Fire, Fairytail, Danganronpa V3, Persona 5, Assassination Classroom, BNHA, and nowadays DSMP. These are mostly in order btw. Some of these can be considered grouped together because I was in a couple of these around the same time. I consider MLP my first real fandom because that was probably the first thing I ever read (or rather listened) to fanfiction of. And it was my first exposure to dark fics and other things involving the internet.

As for genres it depends on if you mean books, movies, games, etc. I've always gravitated towards fantasy/fiction books and fantasy style series. I like action sometimes. Occasional horror (psychological kind usually). I've never been much of a sci-fi person but sometimes I can vibe with it. Again it really depends on the medium because I prefer action movies but I prefer fantasy books.

Now...an outlier here is fanfiction. Because that stuff depends entirely on the fandom. There are very few AUs that I simply refuse to touch across all fandoms (looking at you school AUs) ((specifically high school AUs)) (((I hate them))). And I have favored AUs depending on the fandom as well. My two biggest examples here are Villain AUs for BNHA (which span a massive genera of fan content in BNHA). And fae AUs/Superhero AUs for DSMP. A lot of the other fandoms on my list didn't have much in terms of "AU" content (except Undertale but I'm not talking about that mess). Hence why these are my two examples as my two most recent fandoms. Those are my favorites for those two fandoms. But there are always AUs I won't touch for these fandoms too. BNHA for example: I rarely touch AUs in that series that are "No Powers". I'm fine with AUs where Izuku doesn't have a power, but the entire cast not having powers? Ehhh. I'll pass. Because without the powers, without the hero/villain drama? It loses all kind of interest for me. It becomes just school drama at that point and I hate it. However I make exceptions for versions of the AU where they combine "no powers" with something interesting like "mafia". DSMP: Surprisingly enough, I hate how a majority of royalty AUs in the fandom is written and I won't touch them. That, and the super popular fics in the fandom. I haven't read Passerine, I haven't read Butterfly Reign, and I refuse to touch Accelerate or the other super popular DNF fics. The most I've read in terms of "popular fics" in the fandom was Tommyinnit's Clinic For Supervillains. But that was it. I liked the fic, don't get me wrong, but that was my limit.

I'm biased in so many ways, I realize that, but one of them comes from the fact that Pogtopia is my favorite setting of any story the dsmp has told. It's one of the few places that feel as living as the characters that inhabited it. So maybe I am a little more defensive of the story told there.

Pogtopia feels like the location that would be used in a psychological horror film. In a way, it was used for that. It's claustrophobic in places, but opens out into dark voids in others. It's filled with twists and turns and untrustworthy passages and bridges. The rooms pop in and out of existence as needs demand. The only light source is the occasional glow of a lantern hanging from chains. Tall stone walls and water would lead to a lot of strange noises and echoes.

It was started with good intentions. Extra lights, and carved paths and a promise for rooms and stores carved into the living stone. As time goes on it develops a cluttered haphazard that make it clear that nothing there was ever meant to be more than temporary. Pogtopia became a place that managed to constantly feel like it was in the stages of being abandoned the more people that came there.

And doesn't that fit the story that was told there? People that started out with good intentions succumbing to feeling as if there is no permanency in any sort of good? Fear of friends and whispers around sharp corners. Words that used to inspire and comfort now creating a sense of dread and hopelessness as they bounce off the cold walls. Isolated, away from the sun, and clinging to the only light sources available, even if those sources are no longer warm or encourage growth. Like tumbling through the dark, no one left that place without scars. Maybe they weren't given intentionally, but they'll still be carried on.

Even now, when the occasional person wanders through those abandoned halls, there's a sense of sadness and lingering desolation filling the empty spaces.

A revolution came from that cave and won, but the cost paid is marked in every memory held in those fake buttons and broken stones.

Pogtopia was a horror story and tragedy hidden behind pretty bows of comedy scenes and a budding insurgency.

First impression:

So, I first joined the fandom right after the war of independence. The day Jack Manifold joined the smp to be exact. And the vod of Jack Manifold joining the smp was the very first piece of dsmp-related content I ever watched. So, of course, from that one, my impression of Dream was that he was a little shit who had it out for Tommy in particular. I wasn't that far off from the truth tbf

Impression now:

He's a wonderful and wonderfully twisted villain. One of my favorite characters (together with Chommy, of course, you can't split the primeboys). He's still a little shit who has it out for Tommy, only both aspects of that are way more extreme than I first could have thought. He's also a dumbass. I'm sorry but that plan to get himself locked in prison was still the dumbest f*cking choice ever

Favorite moment:

Making me choose is a cruel and unusual punishment. I have to go with his most pathetic one though, so this little speech he gave in prison right before the TNT went off and Tommy got stuck there:

“I’m not- I- I- Tommy! I’m trying- I’m trying to change, to be better and not be the same person I was and you- it- it doesn’t- y- you can visit me. Like, every now and then, right? It’ll help! It’ll help! Right? It’ll help- it’ll help me… be better”

Because I feel like there's nothing that encapsulates him better as a person than him literally begging Tommy for attention. Pathetic. I love him.

Idea for a story:

Well, I definitely wrote him quite a bunch. But I think my favorite idea to play around with when it comes to Dream is exploring the possibility of him being a spider hybrid in the smp. It fits his aesthetic and you can definitely write some neat horror with it. Also, giant spiderwebs are perfect for kidnapping, just saying...

Unpopular opinion:

He's hands down the best villain in the smp, as long as you allow him to be one. Like, not saying that Schlatt, Quackity, Technoblade or Wilbur were bad, not at all, but none of them ever managed to genuinely unsettle me the way Dream does. And I like my villains unsettling

Favorite relationship:

To no one's surprise, it's Primeboys. I love them. They're dynamic is just so interesting to me, both as a big fan of psychological horror, and just in general. It's messed up, terribly unhealthy, and Dream really should find new hobbies, but it's incredibly fun to watch!

Favorite headcanon:

I think it's obvious from my story idea, but I like spider hybrid Dream. He's neat and funky and I can give him extra arms that way. My boy deserves more arms. Just in general

Hello! Is it okay if i ask for a dsmp matchup? I’m a bisexual 19 year old girl. I’m 5’9, caucasian, and i have wavy long brown hair, hazel eyes, and i wear glasses. I have a thin/athletic build. I have a soft light academia kind of style, and i love wearing sweaters.

I’m INTP, and i tend to be really antisocial. My sense of humor is really sarcastic, and i like to playfully tease people. People describe me as kind of intimidating sometimes, mainly because i’m usually quiet around others. I’m also pretty stubborn. Despite this, i’m also pretty childish sometimes, but i know how to be serious too. In a relationship, i’m a bit easily jealous, but i don’t like showing it.

I’m in college and majoring in psychology. I take schoolwork pretty seriously, and i’m also learning french on the side!

My love language is words of affirmation, and i’m not a big fan of physical affection! I take things slow in a relationship.

I’m very into fitness and health, and i exercise every day (mainly strength!). Some of my other hobbies include shopping, playing video games, and baking. A . How would they show their love and affection? How intense would it get? -Glatt would be pretty intense when it comes to his love language, though, he would prefer if his lover would give him the same energy back. He doesn't want to give all the affection and get nothing back.

B. What type of future are they planning with their lover? - Glatt would probably want to really go back to life, so he would be able to actually go out in the sunlight with you.

C. What is the scariest moment with them? - Glatt isn't the scariest, but he is very obsessive over you, and the fact that he knows everything about you does scare you.

D. How do they usually act with their lover? -Glatt is usually very sweet and encouraging, be it a little bit of a teaser, and a joker. He also loves giving you small little gifts and gems.

E. How would they court their lover before? - Glatt would probably invite you to work out with him. He has a wonderful body, and because of that, he started to help you out with working out a lot more.

never apologize for a long answer!! in fact your answer was SO great and so wonderfully in depth too :D!! if you don't mind me adding on - YEAH, you have really good taste and all the ideas you presented, like the mystery podcast, your idea to do a fic incorporating body horror into hybrid characters (👀) are all SO cool and interesting too :D!!

im honestly not a big movie watcher either; mostly just in terms of All movies, but i also think a lot of movies out there don't do the horror genre justice in how unique and interesting and artistic it can truly be. that's a topic for another day, though 😭 i LOVE paranormal horror too, as well as supernatural elements in general, and im also a huge fan of cosmic horror and body horror :D (though that you were already aware of BWHDJSIHD) both of those are explored very commonly by my favorite horror creator junji ito!!

i think one of my favorite things about being into dsmp is that, if you look at it correctly, there's near ENDLESS possibilities when it comes to horror. the story can just be so delightfully creepy sometimes and you can mold that aspect to interpret it near however you want, horror-wise, and it is SO amazing!! i straight up have a whole tag dedicated to that stuff 😭 the implied inhumanity and inherent creepiness of c!dream, the mystery of c!ranboo's biology (he literally has two fucking hearts, apparently), hell you literally have Ghosts walking around, most of which have BRUTALLY Died and then been painfully brought back to life. and that's just a few examples of endless possibilities :D!! i love thinking about and exploring death and revival particularly.. it's one of my favorite prospects in fiction :3

thank you! i would definitely like to do that fic with body horror at some point, though it's likely going to be a more exploratory <2k oneshot over something more expansive just to play with the idea around it. i simply think about it sometimes and how the horrific can become natural.

me too! i honestly barely watch any movies ever, but i do like video essays about horror movies (and actual abstracts written by people, i've found one of those for jennifer's body that discusses one of my favorite tropes in horror and it was lovely). you have very good taste and i've also been meaning to look into that creator, so i will check them out at some point!!!

ABSOLUTELY u speak STRAIGHT facts, DSMP has so so many possibilities for horror it's absolutely wonderful. there's a lot of existential exploration and psychological horror to be found there, along with just the physicality of it all. everything has its haunt even if you died satisfied with your life, and the whole setting absolutely aches with death. it's so interesting to explore character dynamics with that too-- there's an excellent post on this site about the hauntedness of snowchester and the _beloved family also just has that element to it, this extremely prevalant love especially compared to the rest of the smp but also the constant question of how can you love the self fulfilling prophecies and the untold killers? because you are that? tntduo, too, is interesting like. quackity is one of the most haunted people on the server, and then there's wilbur who was literally previously dead. quackity makes wilbur feel alive and wilbur makes quackity feel like death in a way and i'm getting sidetracked okay anyway

I am very understanding, patient person, more of listener. I am very loyal to my close friends and will die and live for them.
