Tuesday Tunes 121: 👑ER II👑
Tuesday Tunes 121: 👑ER II👑
In case my title and the image haven’t already given you a clue, today’s Tuesday Tunes is a special edition, and is very different from my normal themes. Unless you have just returned from a trip to outer space you will, I am sure, be aware that Queen Elizabeth II passed away last Thursday afternoon. I was born three months after her Coronation and she has been a constant in my life. Her reign…

George I of Great Britain
George I of Great Britain (r. 1714-1727) succeeded the last of the Stuart monarchs, Queen Anne of Great Britain (r. 1702-1714) because he was Anne's nearest Protestant relative. The House of Hanover secured its position as the new ruling family by defeating several Jacobite rebellions which supported the old Stuart line.
King George may have struggled with both English and the English, often preferring his attachments in Germany, but his reign was a relatively stable one. His greatest legacy was as a patron of the arts, in particular, his support of musicians like Handel and such lasting cultural institutions as the Royal Academy of Music. He was succeeded by his son George II of Great Britain (r. 1727-1760).
Succession: The House of Hanover
The Glorious Revolution of 1688 saw the end of the reign of the male Stuarts and placed William, Prince of Orange on the throne as William III of England (r. 1689-1702) with his wife, the daughter of the exiled James II of England (r. 1685-1688), made Mary II of England (r. 1689-1694). Mary's sister became the ruling monarch in 1702 as Anne, Queen of Great Britain. When Anne died, so ended the Stuart royal line, which had begun with Robert II of Scotland (r. 1371-1390).
Queen Anne outlived her husband Prince George of Denmark (1653-1708) by six years; she died at the age of 49 on 1 August 1714 at Kensington Palace after suffering two strokes. Queen Anne had had many children, but all died in infancy. The greatest hope for an heir had been William, Duke of Gloucester (b. 1689), but he died in 1700, aged 12. Anne's official heirs, the Hanoverian family, were selected as such in the 1701 Act of Settlement.
The Hanovers were connected to the British royal line as descendants of Elizabeth Stuart (d. 1662), daughter of James I of England (r. 1603-1625) and brief Queen of Bohemia through her husband Frederick V of the Palatinate. The chosen successor – although she was not permitted by Anne to even visit England – was Elizabeth Stuart's daughter Sophia (l. 1630-1714), wife of the Duke of Brunswick and Elector of Hanover (a small principality in Germany the size of Yorkshire). Sophie of Hanover was Queen Anne's nearest relation of the Protestant faith, a vital consideration given that Parliament had already passed a law forbidding a Catholic to take the throne. For this reason, more than 50 other claimants to the throne had been deemed unsuitable. When Sophia died in 1714, her son, George Ludwig, took over the role of heir apparent to the British throne.

Look, I love Doctor Who like the next person, but I just realised something that is handled so much better in Good Omens. (This got rather long, TLDR at the end)
The Doctor isn't technically immortal like Crowley and Aziraphale, but their age is far beyond the human lifespan and regeneration is a bit like getting a new body after being inconveniently discorporated only without the paperwork. Either way, both the Doctor and the ineffable idiots lovers are non-humans (although looking completely human) that have lived/existed for a large multitude of human lifespans, have magical powers/technology so advanced it's indistinguishable from magic and an intellect far beyond human capabilities, are somewhat socially awkward and love the Earth / humanity.
What Good Omens does so much better is that, while Aziraphale and Crowley both care deeply for humans (You can't kill kids!) they are also well aware of the fact that they themselves are tremendously different from humans and are reluctant to get overly involved and attached. I don't mind the multitude of fanfics depicting Aziraphale having an affair with Oscar Wilde or Crowley with Leonardo da Vinci or whatever, but the show clearly stirrs away from this and imho that's a very good thing. Because on what ground would someone with the experiences of thousands of years, with literal devine power, who has witnessed the beginning of the universe fall in love with a human? Could there ever be real love? Affection, yes. Empathy, understanding, maybe even something like a (sadly probably rather shallow) friendship. But deep romantic love? I don't think so, sorry. Please remember, this is my opinion. I don't want to offend anyone. Please don't come at me, I'm soft. 😩
Of course the Ineffables could just fancy getting to know people the biblical way from time to time, but that's just not who they are. And wouldn't it even be a bit weird? Using these unaware ephemeral creatures as playthings?
The Doctor (granted, it's mostly 10 and 11) on the other hand seems to fall in love with humans all the fucking time! Or condones humans falling in love with them and letting them stick around anyways. And even when there are no romantic feelings involved, the Doctor often leaves their companions hurt, traumatized or with their memories wiped after the inevitable end of their joint travels. And unless the Ineffables it is quite strongly hinted that the Doctor does enjoy a good biblical introduction to a non-equal from time to time (Reinette, Queen Elizabeth I).
TLDR: imho Good Omens handels the relationship between (virtually) immortal, nearly omnipotent beings and humans better than Doctor Who, by not incorporating romantic love / lust between these and humans.

lin!! am wishing you an amazing weekend with flowers and pretty skies!! 🌷☁️
am wondering!! what’s your favourite emoji, and what would your fave’s be? (or what emoji would u associate w them the most!!)
Hi! So far the weekend has been quiet, which is a nice change! Tomorrow my husband and I are going out for dinner and to see a performance of Handel's Messiah- if you're not familiar, it's a full musical work, famous for the Hallelujah Chorus. It's a Christmas time tradition in my hometown, so I'm looking forward to hearing it!
Hmmm....my favorite emoji is probably this one 😌 It's definitely up there among my most frequently used, alongside 😭
But I was just looking through them all, and I had no idea there was a peacock emoji! How cute 🦚
So my current obsession is Jumin Han (again) and I always associate purple hearts with him 💜 for obvious reasons. But I also think he would like any of the cat emojis, or the paws 🐾. In fact, I could see Jumin customizing some Elizabeth the Third emojis to use.

THE CORONATION OF CHARLES III : AN IRRESISTIBLE SPECTACLE
Nothing prepares you for a coronation — not quite, not fully. King Charles III had waited seven decades for his moment, he had rehearsed the ceremony in the days before, yet as he approached the doors of Westminster Abbey, his face betrayed his anxiety. He turned, he muttered, he fidgeted. For much of the two-hour service, his expression was, if not exactly a grimace, a study in suspense.
When the two-kilogramme St Edward’s Crown was placed on his head, he closed his eyes sombrely. Queen Camilla braced herself similarly when her own turn came. The audience were unprepared for the coronation, probably more so. No one much younger than the 74-year old king could remember the last one, which took place when Winston Churchill was prime minister. More than 2,000 people filed into the Abbey, and their eyes seemed to widen at the plethora of colourful garments, the grandeur of the jewels, the assortment of the great, the good and the deserving.
Observing the singer Lionel Richie sitting next to the former Australian foreign secretary Julie Bishop gave a sense of the strangeness of the occasion. There were roles for people with titles such as the Lady of the Order of the Thistle and the Rouge Dragon Pursuivant.
It would be wrong to say that the British public had been gripped by the prospect of the coronation. Two-fifths thought it was a waste of taxpayer money, according to one poll. Two-thirds didn’t care about it very much or at all, according to another. After all, there had been a glut of royal pageantry in the past year: Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee weekend last June, followed by her funeral in September.Yet, as so often, royal ceremony proved almost irresistible. Foremost was the music, guided, we are told, by the king himself. Westminster Abbey is a fragmented building, where few seats have a direct view of the central space. It has been hosting coronations since 1066, which means that for many centuries, most attendees must have been craning their necks. Because of that, and because most of the congregation had to be seated for two hours before the main service began, the music mattered. The choir’s rendition of Handel’s Zadok The Priest, sung in the most sacred moment of the service as the King was anointed with oil behind a screen, was a triumph.
When the congregation later responded with the words “God Save the King”, the noise reverberated deep into the stonework.
[Thanks you Robert Scott Horton]
+
Ian Sanders  · So Charles III will be crowned on Saturday in a ceremony which will start at 11 a.m. BST and possibly go on until 2 p.m. This is a multi-faceted phenomenon and various opinions may be held about it all.
I have my own - and no interest in trying to persuade anyone else to  adopt them. What I'd like to draw attention to is that a large number of power-possessing beings will be gathered in a powerful sacred place (Westminster Abbey), while many millions of people around the world will be paying attention (of sorts) to proceedings.
Some of you will be familiar with the research done by the PEAR project and by the Global Coherence Initiative which suggests a greater degree than usual of cohesion in our collective consciousness at times of mass focus. This may be a good time to devote some time and effort to wishing the world well, whatever that means to you.

The Favourite (Yorgos Lanthimos, 2018) Cast: Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, Nicholas Hoult, Joe Alwyn, Mark Gatiss, James Smith. Screenplay: Deborah Davis, Tony McNamara. Cinematography: Robbie Ryan. Production design: Fiona Crombie. Film editing: Yorgos Mavropsaridis. Costume design: Sandy Powell. Yorgos Lanthimos is a genuine auteur, although I also think that was already pretty from the brilliant weirdness of Dogtooth (2009), The Lobster (2015), and The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017), made in collaboration with the screenwrier Efthymis Filippou. The Favourite is the first film of Lanthimos's I've seen that has a screenplay by other hands than his. He doesn't compromise with its genre, the historical costume drama; instead, he sends it up in ways that will make it hard for anyone to watch one of those glossy, opulent recreations of the past with a straight face again. It was hard, for example, to watch Olivia Colman playing Queen Elizabeth II on The Crown without recalling her performance as Queen Anne. And who will ever be able to witness a stately ballroom scene without remembering how Rachel Weisz and Joe Alwyn take the floor in The Favourite? Lanthimos thumbs his nose at historical accuracy, introducing anachronistic music, from Schubert to Elton John, in the midst of period-correct composers like Purcell and Handel, and thereby achieves a higher correctness of emotional intensity. He inverts sexuality, not only in the same-sex cavorting of the queen and her favorites, but also in the foppish bewigged courtiers, whose male devotion to war is subjugated to the power plays of the dominant females who regard war as a game. Abigail (Emma Stone), her mind on other things, gives her husband a hand job on their wedding night. As in his earlier films, Lanthimos is fascinated by people who play god, and although the film is mostly a comedy there's a kind of tragic irony in its ending, with Abigail, who has won her battle with Sarah, now under the thumb of the half-mad queen, reduced to a pet like one of the queen's rabbits. Earlier, Abigail has tried to squash one of the bunnies under her foot; now she's being squashed by Anne. The Favourite, I think, is going to take its place as one of the great satiric films, and it has already influenced at least one delicious TV series, The Great, even to the extent of casting Nicholas Hoult, who plays Harley in The Favourite, as the consort of Catherine the Great.

Okay this is from a completely realist pov:
First off Sunshine:
Sunshine has the same personality as Raymond Reddington from The Blacklist(an extremely relatable character for me)
It's been mentioned she is an ENTJ and characteristicly female ENTJ's tend to behave extremely aggressively... as one myself I can say that. Tbh it's just too much testosterone in the system because it is extremely rare to be a female ENTJ for a reason due to it being predominantly male. We can just look at facts and we fr fr are gonna disregard emotions at all costs. Nothing we can do to really change that so Sunshine is looking at Birdy like a walking hazard sign. If I were to see someone like Birdy I'd want to distance myself like crazy, because it's A. Too much emotional trauma and B. Too unpredictable. We dislike surprises and over emotional people wich is unfortunately what Birdy has become.
Now onto Birdy:
Birdy is an ENFJ:
ENTJS AND ENFJS RARELY EVER HAVE COMMON GROUND
Entjs have been compared to Enfjs as the villian to their hero, with Entjs leaning on the darker side and Enfjs on the lighter side.
Birdy is the equivalent of Elizabeth Keen from The Blacklist who has many traumatizing things happen to her(personally I disliked Elizabeth due to her strong emotions)
She can't handel truma well at all and to her it's a very difficult and emotional time. That's why when Sunshine waltzed in, with no regard to Birdy's emotions, she freaked out. Birdy views Sunshine as an A-hole because she dose not give two croissants about how Birdy feels. Birdy feels things deeply so she is viewing Sunshine as a cold sociopath. Birdy views her feelings as something that should be catered to and treated like a fact and Sunshine is just completely disregarding that.
Thx for coming to my mbti rational on why Birdy and Sunshine are disliked for different reasons 🤟
MBTI COMES IN FOR A DIFFERENT ANALYSIS
VERY GOOD
