I was instructed by a mutual friend of ours to seek you out for some council, Lord van Zieks. I'm sorry for the questions I am going to ask, and I want it to be known that you do not have to answer if you don't feel comfortable.
How do you deal with family members who are not proud of you despite the feats that you achieved?
Once again, pray forgive the discourtesy of my rudeness, but I had to let it out. My sincerest apologies.
[@ryunosuke-naruhodo-blog]
I saw that exchange, yes. I would hardly call him a "friend" of mine. He has yet to enlighten me as to whatever favour he wishes to ask of me, yet he has gladly divulged the fact that I grasp your language to anyone who will listen.

15: Can we have a Ryuunosuke and Sholmes tickle fight? I imagine they’re fighting over the last dessert or something
The Last Jam Tart
Author’s note: Yes! My goofy and lovable Great Ace Attorney boys! I hope you all enjoy Day 15 of Tickletober: Tickle Fight! (From August's Tickletober 2023 list!)
Tumblr media
Series: The Great Ace Attorney
Characters: Herlock Sholmes, Ryunosuke Naruhodo, and Iris Wilson
Word count: 995
Summary: There’s only one jam tart left for the taking, so Sholmes and Ryunosuke get into a competitive ‘fight’ to see who will win the last tart.
Ryunosuke bites down on the flaky crust of a jam tart, enjoying the sweet strawberry flavor hitting his tongue. The little rounded tarts are the perfect size to hold, each made with extra care to create the delicate pastry.
“Mmm!” Ryunosuke finishes his mouthful. “Iris, these are delicious. Thank you!” He takes another bite to finish off the other half he had in his hand.
“Hehe! You’ve only said that about a thousand times now, Runo,” Iris giggles.
“And a thousand more thank yous will come your way, my dear Iris,” Sholmes intervenes from beside Ryunosuke. Both men occupy the red couch in the living room of the Sholmes’ Suite as they enjoy their dessert. “For these are marvelous jam tarts, baked perfectly in every way,” Sholmes continues.
“Aww! That’s sweet of you to say, Hurley! I’m glad you both like them.” The little girl swells with pride at her job well done. She gestures to the tray in front of her on the black chest they use as a coffee table. A single jam tart that seems to sparkle in the gleam of the room lights sits alone on the tray. “There’s one more if anyone would like it.”
“I’ll have it,” Ryunosuke and Sholmes say at the same time. The two men exchange looks with each other.
“Well, it seems we have come to a crossroad, Mr. Naruhodo,” Sholmes says. “In that case, we must have a fair fight to see who will win the last jam tart.”
“What?” Ryunosuke’s voice heightens with confusion, “Mr. Sholmes, surely you’re not going to challenge me in combat over a jam tart?”
“Oh, but that is precisely what I plan to do,” Shomes responds with a smile. “En garde, Mr. Naruhodo. The fight starts…Now!”
Before Ryunosuke can properly process Sholmes’s declaration for battle, the great detective lunges at Ryunosuke and tackles him to the arm of the couch. Fingers then quickly dart towards his sides—tickling Ryunosuke through the fabric of his dress shirt.
“H-Hehehey!” Ryunosuke jolts and bursts into giggles, his legs kicking out from the surprise attack. He leans his head back and shoves at his opponent, “Mr. Shohoholmes!” So this is what the great detective meant about going to combat over the last jam tart; he was declaring a tickle fight!
“I see you’ve figured out my strategy, Mr. Naruhodo!” the great detective mentions as if they were simply continuing the flow of their conversation, “So, the first one that can make the other surrender is the winner! Agreed?”
One would think that the two opponents would come to an agreement before the battle actually started, but at least this is a fight Ryunosuke has a chance in!
“Yohohou’re ohohon!” Ryunosuke exclaims through his laughter. As a counter strike, the lawyer lunges his arms towards Sholmes’ ribs.
Sholmes harks out a laugh and grips Ryunosuke’s scribbling fingers at his ribs. With Sholmes now on the defensive, Ryunouske pushes him over, causing Sholmes to flop onto his back on the other end of the couch. Ryunosuke quickly pounces at him and scribbles his fingers into Sholmes’ ribs again. Now it’s the great detective’s turn to burst into giggles. Herlock clamps his arms down in reflex before grabbing the lawyer’s wrists, but Ryunosuke easily slips out of his grasp. He then switches to clawing at Sholmes’ belly, causing the great detective’s back to arch with a giggly yelp and his arms to flail across his middle as a line of defense.
“This is the game you wanted to play Mr. Sholmes!” Ryunosuke grins, knowing he hit an extra ticklish spot on the detective. “So, do you yield?”
Sholmes controls his flailing limbs and uses them to tug himself backwards, so that he can prop himself somewhat upright on the arm of the couch. Ryunosuke still hones in on his belly, while Sholmes returns to latching onto the lawyer’s wrists. “Dohohon’t count me ohohout just yehehehet!” Sholmes laughs.
Fighting back, Sholmes finds an opening and launches a hand at Ryunosuke’s ribs, like he was delivering a tickly punch. The lawyer squeaks and reals to the side, almost falling off the couch. When he turns to stabilize himself, Sholmes recaptures the upper hand by swooping in behind Ryunosuke and drilling into his ribs.
“AH! Nohohohot the ribs!!!” Ryunosuke playfully flails his arms in Sholmes’ hook-like hold.
Sholmes grins over the lawyer's shoulder, “How about you? Do you surrender now Mr. Naruhodo?”
Ryunosuke’s answer is a scribble into Sholmes’ belly again. Sholmes flinches and tries not to yield his effective attack on Ryunosuke, but the ticklish fluttering at his middle allows Ryunosuke the wiggle room he needed to send Sholmes face planting into the cushions.
As neither Ryunosuke or Sholmes seems to be in the mood to surrender, Iris—who’s been giggling as she watches them—decides to take the initiative. She goes to the kitchen and grabs a butter knife, then returns to the tray on the chest. She cuts the jam tart in two, near perfect halfs. “Runo! Hurley!” she calls out to them over their laughter to gain their attention.
The two men look to Iris and pause their tickle fight in its tracks. With the break, they both collect their breathing, especially Ryunosuke, who was on the receiving end of the tickles when she stopped them.
Iris gestures to the tray, “Why don’t you two just call it a draw and share?”
“Yes, a draw! We can share the last tart,” Shomes repeats in agreement. “Why didn't we think of that before hand, Mr. Naruhodo?”
“Maybe we would have if you didn’t tackle me down to tickle me first,” Ryunosuke responds.
“Ah, well no use dwelling on the past now,” Sholmes replies. Ryunosuke rolls his eyes, but smiles at his friend. The two untangle themselves from the tickle fight and scoot over to their original spots on the couch. They then each take one half of the jam tart and enjoy the final pieces of treat together.

About a month late to the party, but here's some excerpts from the most recently translated gyakuten saiban library article, from around the time of AA4's original release.
The article features Shu Takumi, Mitsuru Endō, Minae Matsukawa, and Takeshi Yamazaki. I always encourage reading the original article but here are some parts I thought were interesting!
About how the Perceive mechanic came about:
Interviewer: I’ll be asking you a bit about the story now. This game adds the new Perceive mechanic. How was that created? Takumi: We wanted to brainstorm training with the younger staff members, and had them come up with all kinds of ideas. Perceive was an idea we kept in the back of our heads just to be sure we had something. Matsukawa: I believe you wanted a new mechanic or feature that’d use the touch screen? Takumi: 4 is a renewal of the series, so we had decided early on we wanted new features in the game. Of the many ideas proposed, Perceive was the one that seemed the best implementable. Yamazaki: It took a long time before we actually settled on the final form of the mechanic. Endō: We only decided on how to actually control it quite late in the cycle I remember. Takumi: But on the whole, on the whole, I think the game is quite easy to understand. I really hope Gyakuten Saiban 4 will sell like crazy. Everyone: Yeah! Matsukawa: Wow, you sound like a producer! (laugh)
About the origins of Apollo's bracelet:
Interviewer: Were there times you had trouble with creating the characters? Takumi: I guess Odoroki-kun’s bracelet. Yamazaki: That bracelet was added because Odoroki-kun rolls up his sleeves and Mr. Nuri (the character designer) thought his arm looked so empty. The design of the bracelet however seemed to suggest it was important, so it was decided to make it a key item. Takumi: Originally, we just wanted to make it a wristwatch. Yamazaki: I think we even talked about actually releasing such a wristwatch. Takumi: Ah! Yeah, that’s true! We certainly didn’t forget about money! (laugh) Interviewer: Why was the wristwatch changed to a bracelet? Takumi: I don’t remember. Did someone say a wristwatch was a no-go? Yamazaki: I remember we came up with the idea of making an eye-shaped wristwatch because of the Perceive mechanic. Takumi: I don’t remember that all (laugh). Yamazaki: I think we discussed a few times, and eventually asked Mr. Nuri to come up with something besides a wristwatch. Takumi: He came up with an intricately designed wristwatch, so we decided to give it a backstory, and it became an important item.
About Phoenix's drinking and gambling:
Interviewer: Do you ever argue when you are exchanging ideas? Takumi: Arguing? I have the feeling we were always fighting. For example, Naruhodo-kun was supposed to drink, and be a gambler in the story. But then someone asked if that was okay ethics-wise. The game would also be played by children, and it was a lot harder to handle themes like alcohol and gambling than I had expected. I personally liked the idea, so I ended up arguing with several people regarding this. Matsukawa: We were struggling how to keep the core trick while removing what would commonly be considered a gambling aspect. It took a long time before we found a way to make it not about gambling in a practical sense. Takumi: The alcohol was not really important, so changing that was easy. But the gambling part was really difficult. We tried a few things, and eventually, decided upon the characters not gambling for money, but by having the men put their own prides at stake in a 1:1 confrontation. If you play the game, you’ll see for yourself how the story handles that. Matsukawa: We wanted the game to be accessible to all ages. I think the change was for the good in the end.
And Takumi's favorite phrase to hear:
Interviewer: Let’s talk about the short questionnaires we asked you to answer earlier. I was wondering about Mr. Takumi’s reply to his favorite sayings. “Mr. Takumi, the deadline’s been moved back!” (laugh). Takumi: Well, I love hearing those words. (laugh) Yamazaki: Yep, I like that too. Endō: I change my answer to “Mr. Endō, we made the deadline!” Matsukawa: I’ll change mine to “Ms. Matsukawa, we’re done!” (laugh)

I WAS GONNA ASK ABOUT STEEL RESOLVE i want you to talk about it more. or preff just because i miss it so dearly. or price of living on because slutch. up to you
SO I WROTE LIKE A WHOLE THING ABOUT THIS AND THEN TUMBLR'S EDITOR CRASHED OR SOMETHING AND I LOST ALL OF IT
👍 GOOD WEBSITE
anyway i'll try to recreate it. steel resolve my good friend steel resolve! i'll get back to it someday, i think, so i don't want to reveal too much so as not to trick my brain into thinking i've written it already. i will say though i made that title when i finished chapter 1 and if i could go back and change it i would absolutely put the word dragon in there somewhere i feel like i've made a metaphor of ryunosuke being a dragon or like a dragon at least once a chapter
major dgs/dgs2 spoilers under the cut!
so Steel Resolve is an AU of dgs where, on the SS burya, kazuma reveals to ryunosuke his true purpose in london: as not just a lawyer, but half of an assassin exchange. when kazuma "dies" on the burya, he leaves ryunosuke to have to perform that mission, too.
given that it's an AU of the whole duology there, it follows the events of the games pretty closely, with notable exceptions popping up here and there for important "divergent" moments, i.e. his relationship with karuma and susato, his meetings with lord stronghart and tobias gregson, his pursuit of law, kazuma's "revival", and so on. most of the big events are generally the same until of course the final cases, which are, without getting too far into it, absolutely going to feature the time-honored ace attorney tradition of putting a lawyer named naruhodo on trial for murder.
that final trial is what i've probably been thinking about the most since there are some of the dgs ost songs on my Music Library that just bring it to mind every time (most notably Reaper of the Old Bailey and Revival of the Great Prosecutor), and i really hope to write it someday. i've never written an ace attorney style mystery before, and i think it'd be a ton of fun!
all of steel resolve that exists is already on ao3 except for the chapter i'm currently working on, so here's an excerpt from that chapter just for fun!
"Continue," Lord Stronghart interrupts, sharply enough to snag the rest of her objections in her throat. A sneer seems to ghost across his face for a moment. "And speak up, for God's sake."
Naruhodo-san grimaces again, fidgeting with Karuma. By the time he settles his hands, they've both somehow found their way to its hilt, braced and faintly trembling. Susato furrows her brow, because something in her is insisting that the way he's holding the blade looks rather familiar—
"My—my position hasn't changed on that either!" he blurts out, as if the words need to be forced from his throat. He bows, stiff and awkward around the blade in his hands. "...My lord."
It strikes her then, like the chime of a clock.
That's one of the stances I taught him.
something i really enjoy doing with steel resolve is reflecting a subtle detail that dgs does already, which is having the use of honorifics as opposed to english titles ("naruhodo-san" as opposed to "mr. naruhodo") to denote what language is being spoken in or thought in by the character. it's a really cool trick for showing that off in a game that is, y'know, translated entirely into english.
with a fic like this, i also get to implement the different names characters use in their narration to refer to other characters (for instance, when referring to ryunosuke naruhodo, susato's POV chapter uses "naruhodo-san" while kazuma's used "ryunosuke") in order to reflect their different relationships! it's very fun i love to do a little trick

Hey Mr Naruhodo, have you met Lisken Larsson yet? (Pre gaa1)
Tumblr media
(That name... It definitely doesn't sound like a Japanese one.)
Tumblr media
"Ah, no, I've never even heard of them before, actually!"
Tumblr media
"Why? Is... That someone I should know?"
Tumblr media
(Is there another visiting professor besides Professor Wilson that I never heard about? Or... An exchange student, maybe? I wonder if Kazuma knows anything more about this.)

Capcom's Official AA Fanclub Surveys - DGS Edition
Many Western fans may be familiar with the Turnabout 4koma comics that get posted on the official AA fanclub site that Capcom runs, thanks to some lovely fans on tumblr and elsewhere who have shared their translations. What fewer people seem to know about is the character surveys.
Back in the old days, they used to hold a survey on Capcom's official AA fansite every few months where they'd write about the seasonal activities of a handful of characters and ask fans to vote for the funniest/most pleasant/strangest/etc answer.
They stopped doing them in like... 2016? 2017? The original text is lost for good as far as I can tell. Even the wayback machine couldn't help because the content was password locked and you can't get past the password wall while remaining in the archived version.
Fortunately, I saved some of my translations of them so I thought I’d share them.
Cut for length...
"February has begun, and the DGS cast is nearing the end of their journey aboard the RFS Alacrei. Which of them acted the most strangely?"
Ryuunosuke ~ Exhausted from his intensive study session, he decided to try some katana swinging practice as a change of pace and to combat his recent lack of exercise. But because he wasn't used to handling the katana, he swung it too hard and it went flying out of his hands and got stuck in the wall right next to Sherlock, who had just entered the room. Sherlock asked him, "aren't you supposed to be studying right now, Mr. Naruhodo?" and handcuffed him to his desk.
Susato- worked on developing a curriculum for Ryuunosuke. 'If we keep going at this pace, he won't be able to learn it all in time... It'll be hard on Naruhodo-sama, but we'll have to work hard through a couple of nights together.' With that thought, she created a harsh study schedule, and almost seemed to be looking forward to it for some reason.
Sherlock- Driven by excitement over the thought of returning to England after a long absence, he went up on deck to stare at the ocean. Being February, it was very cold out there and he ended up being chilled all the way to the tips of his fingers. He returned to the ship cabins and amused himself by putting his frozen hands on Ryuunosuke, who was stuck in his room studying.
Van Zieks- Upon hearing from Vortex that there was a Japanese exchange student coming to England to study law, he smashed a Lord's Bottle. He apparently also didn't care for the fact that that Japanese student wouldn't be alone, because he proceeded to shatter his chalice, too.
Hosonaga- in order to provide a respite from studying, he provided some hot chocolate. They enjoyed a pleasant tea time, marveling over how sweet and delicious the drink was until Sherlock piped up with some unnecessary trivia: 'Actually folks, chocolate has long been used in Europe as an aphrodisiac!' Everyone promptly spat it out."
"The long winter is nearly over and spring is on it's way, putting the DGS cast members in a celebratory mood. Who found the best way of enjoying spring?"
Ryuunosuke: the Yuumei University faculty members were holding a flower viewing event, and he joined the assistance committee. He exhausted himself keeping the blankets clean so the intense shower of flower petals wouldn't pile up too high on them, delivering sake and snacks, and mediating whatever pointless fights arose. To top it all off, for some reason his compensation was only a single piece of leftover candy. Talk about a sad result!
Susato- her father and the others living in his dormitory were  holding the flower viewing event, so she got up early to prepare the bentos. But her father carelessly forgot to tell her that they wanted tea cakes, so she had to go around the house and neighborhood collecting sweets. For some reason, she ended up being able to gather caramels, biscuits, candy sticks, basically everything but tea cakes, for the tea ceremony.
Sherlock- he disguised himself as a beat officer and infiltrated Scotland Yard to have some fun. There was a real beat officer napping on his feet in the spring sunshine, and while observing him, Sherlock ended up falling asleep too. Detective Gregson gave them a good scolding when he found them, but then Sherlock revealed his true identity with a "hey, it's me, folks!" "What the blazes do you think you're doing?!" Gregson shouted, his rage growing even more, and Sherlock ended up making a run for it.
Van Zieks- went to the vineyard to oversee the production of the contents of his Lord's Bottle. As he viewed the still unopened grape blossom buds, he thought about how they would someday grow up to fill his Lord's Bottle, and ended up going around to look at each one. But the farm hands couldn't stop wondering whether the bottle itself or its owner's heel might come flying at them and were quite uneasy.
Asougi: exhausted himself running around since early morning helping with the professors' flower viewing event. When it was over, he took a break, sharing his reward candy stick [the name of the candy literally translates to 1,000 year candy] with Ryuunosuke, who had also been helping out.
"I wonder if the candy's effect is halved if you share it with someone."
"That still gives us 500 years."
They laughed and enjoyed looking at the flowers until dark. Then they parted ways with a handshake and a "see you later, best friend."
(This one was something about celebrating New Years. For some reason I didn't save the original question)
"Ryuunosuke ~ To celebrate New Years, he planned to pound mochi with everyone at the office. He somehow managed to get his hands on some mochi rice and he and Sherlock started pounding. Iris was having such fun watching them that she steamed a whole bunch more mochi rice so they could have some to share, and he and Sherlock spent the whole evening pounding mochi like crazy.
Asougi~ Because it's New Years, he went around to a bunch of shrines. When he drew his new year's fortune, he got a "horrible luck" result. "I'm not worried about it," he claimed, and headed up to the mountains early on New Years morning and work hard on a full training course of purification by water, meditation under a waterfall and wooden sword practice. It seems that he was working really hard to clear his mind of all earthly thoughts
Sherlock- Agreed to help Ryuunosuke pound mochi. As Ryuunosuke was flipping the mochi over, he carelessly dropped his badge into the bowl and Sherlock mixed it in without noticing, so they had to crack open both the hard and soft mochi to look for it. Fortunately they found it in the 4th one they checked, but apparently Sherlock got his hands and face covered in sticky white mochi in the process.
Susato- Wore a furisode and went with her father to do the first shrine visit of the year. The shrine was incredibly crowded and they had to wait in line for a long time, but she brought the Encyclopaedia of British Law and a copy of the Strand Magazine in her sleeves to secretly read as they waited so she actually ended up enjoying the wait.
Van Zieks- Ryuunosuke cheerfully gave him some mochi as a New Year’s (which at that time was celebrated at the same time as the Chinese New Year) gift, which he accepted confusedly, wondering “...Can the Japanese not even keep track of when the New Year is?” Because Ryuunosuke referred to it as a rice cake, he tried to eat it like a regular cake without softening it with heat first. It was so hard that he couldn’t imagine how it could possibly be food, and ended up misunderstanding the Japanese even more!
"Autumn has arrived, and the weather is starting to cool off, which means that everyone is becoming more active. Which character chose the most pleasant autumn activity to keep busy with?"
Iris was making bread but her hands are small and it’s difficult for her to knead the dough, so she asked for Ryuunosuke’s help. She wanted to make enough to hand out to Gina and all the other homeless children in the East End, so she made a massive amount and Ryuunosuke was stuck kneading this massive mountain of bread dough all day. Apparently he became such a expert at kneading that he could be a baker now.
Asougi was practicing with his sword, slicing autumn-colored ginko leaves as they fell from the tree. He cut so many leaves, though, that he ended up making a big mess on the ground, the number of fallen leaves now having increased, and it took him a long time to clean it all up.
Sherlock: Ryuunosuke told him that he was making anpan (bread filled with sweet red bean paste, the bane of my Asian-dwelling existance) and asked Sherlock to help by being in charge of getting the poppy seeds they’d need to sprinkle on top, so Sherlock went out and gathered a ton of poppy seeds. In fact, he got so many of them that no one knew what to do with them all cuz they had a huge amount of leftovers. Sherlock said, “Well, they’re only the size of poppy seeds! Surely you two can deal with them somehow! Ahahaha!” and Iris scolded him.
(I couldn’t capture it in English, but Sherlock’s line contained a pun, and a pretty stupid one at that, so that’s part of why he got scolded)
It’s grape harvesting season, so Van Zieks commutes to the winery regularly to direct the production of the contents for his “Lord’s Bottle.” He demands perfection in everything from the selection of the grapes to the way they’re squeezed, and the winery staff is terrified by the “grim reaper’s” gaze and heel swinging (i.e. the leg thing he does in court) so they grumble as they work.
"Hearing that there’s a holiday in the West called Halloween, the people involved with the court in Japan decided to try it out themselves. Naturally Halloween is a big deal in England as well. So, which member of the DGS cast had the best celebration?"
Team Ryuunosuke and Asougi- Asougi got Naruhodo up on his shoulders and they draped a white sheet over themselves to make a ghost costume. They went out like that, but Naruhodo had such exaggerated reactions to the fear of the people who saw them and to bumping his head on tree branches that they ended up losing their balance and falling on top of each other?!
Sherlock Holmes- went wearing a horse’s head mask. Iris used her skills to make it a fancy horse covered in stars, but the eye holes weren’t well made and he had to wander around blindly. Because of that he tripped hard over a pile of coal! He ended up getting so dirty that the stars on his costume were covered up!
Van Zieks- took inspiration from his nickname and dressed up as the grim reaper. He covered himself up with a skeleton mask and hood figuring no one would know it was him. Unfortunately he got angry when he saw Megundal (McGilded) pass by and started throwing bottles and glasses and ended up giving himself away.
"November has arrived, and autumn is nearing its end. However, the DGS cast is still keeping busy, even on their days off. Which character chose the most interesting way to spend their late autumn day?"
Ryuunosuke- Thinking that he’d better learn more about British culture if he was going to be a defense attorney in Britain, he went down to the East End with Gina for a little observation. However, because an Asian like him stood out so much, he got mobbed by the other children. On top of it all, his arm band got stolen from him and he had to send a replacement request to Yumei University on the other side of the ocean.
Asougi- He went for a meal at La Quantas. The customer at a nearby table got a persimmon for dessert and scarfed it down, saying “Mm! This is it! This sweetness makes it worthy of being called a treasure among foods!” Asougi tried to comment on this by saying, “The customer at that table sure is enjoying his pershim--gak!” but he may or may not have accidentally bitten his tongue in the process and been unable to finish his sentence.
Iris- She accepted Ryuunosuke’s request to learn more about British culture and prepared a bagpipe and kilt costume for him. “This outfit sure is breezy,” Ryuunosuke said shyly upon trying it on. With Ryuunosuke now dressed, he, Iris, and the others from their office headed over to Gregson’s place to get him to treat them to some fish and chips.
Sherlock- He accepted Ryuunosuke’s request to learn more about British culture and cooked up some European style curry for dinner. Thanks to the fact that his secret ingredient was a large amount of Chinese herbal medicine style spice, it caused some strange side effects and Ryuunosuke, who’d eaten it, ended up passing out and falling over.
“Another taxing trial for Ryuunosuke has finished and now it’s December. As the year draws to a close, which character acts the strangest?”
Ryuunosuke- he was recruited to help with snow removal around Yumei University and the courthouse and he enthusiastically began his task with the help of a large shovel. He got a little carried away, though, and ended up accidentally burying his umbrella, which he’d left propped up against the side of the building, in the snow he’d just finished shoveling.  He had no choice but to share Asougi’s umbrella on the way home.
Asougi- On the way home, he nods silently to Ryuunosuke’s question of whether he’d finished his travel preparations and changes the subject: “...Come to think of it, it seems that tomorrow is celebrated in the West as God’s birthday.” “I’ve heard that they eat chicken as part of the traditional celebration. Wanna try it?” Ryuunosuke asks invitingly. Asougi is strongly opposed to that particular menu item, however, and they end up going out for their usual beef stew that night instead.
Susato- in addition to her year-end travel preparations, she also was busy with straightening up the book room in her home. She managed to get the law books in order when she suddenly stumbled upon some old issues of Strand Magazine! She hurried through the rest of her cleaning, then began flipping through the magazines she’d found, trying to decide which to take with her on her trip. She accidentally lost herself in her reading and didn’t realize it until it was already the middle of the night.
Sherlock- he was in the middle of a long ship voyage when Christmas night came. His mind on his partner in a far-off country, he made a toast alone on deck, when suddenly the crew began shooting off fireworks with a cry of “Merry Christmas!” Sherlock had to dart back and forth across the deck to prevent the fireworks from hitting him and setting off the explosive chemicals he carries with him.

Valid back again.
Did jot want to put horny on anon together with soft on anon together.
But I (naturally) love Herlock and made a character for him. I am always thinking about how Ryuu and Susato would learn about Herls partner. Like, I imagine Herl and his partner being together for a while and alrrwsy being together at that point, but since neither Ryuu nor Susato ask about that, he did not tell them about his partner.
(just how I imagine it)
And I have been thinking,, how would they meet his partner? Sometimes I am thinking about them seeing the two lovers on a date(sometimes just Ryuu, who return and tells Susato, who at first does not believe it)
Or even going as far as Herl requesting Ryuu to defend his partner.
Valid is quite creative here
Sholmes in The House Headcanons: The Gang Discovers Herlock's "Partner"
Ryunosuke and Susato sometimes notice Sholmes coming home later than usual or even being gone for the entire night. It's usually on nights when Iris is with Susato, giggling away in Susato's bedroom while poor Runo is forced to sit alone, looking at the prawns in the aquarium.
They never ask Sholmes about his whereabouts, suspecting it's either private business or some confidential detective work.
Sholmes occasionally talks about his dear partner and they think nothing of it, assuming the detective is just reliving his glory days and recounting fond memories shared with John. H. Wilson.
"I'm off, my dear Iris!" Ryunosuke overhears Sholmes one day by "accident" whilst walking downstairs. "I mustn't keep my dear partner waiting a moment longer. They're awfully sore with me still for being an hour late last Thursday." Putting a hand over his mouth to stifle a gasp, Ryunosuke turns on his heel to quietly run back to his lodgings, eager to share his findings with Susato who scolds him for eavesdropping, but is more than happy to indulge in some gossip.
One evening, there is an additional seat at the table. A person around Herlock's age walks in and Iris practically jumps in their arms as a form of greeting, the great detective himself subtly pecking their cheek whilst taking their coat. Ryunosuke's eyes widen and, surprisingly, so do Susato's when they exchange a quick glance.
Herlock refers to the person as "my dear" throughout the evening, which is nothing odd. Everyone's dear to him, after all. But his voice is unusually soft when he says it aimed at them. "Uh, Mr Sholmes, forgive me for prying, but do you have a new investigative partner? Isn't it a bit soon? I mean Mr Wils-OW!" Susato's elbow sharply meets his ribs and Ryunosuke closes his mouth instantly.
Sholmes laughs, "Oh ho ho, my dear fellow! It's only natural to be curious! Why yes, this is indeed my darling partner. Hardly interested in investigating, my darling here, though their advice has been invaluable to me during some cases!"
Ryunosuke and Susato exchange a glance again. "I'm confused," Ryu declares, slouching his shoulders in defeat. "Oh, Runo!" Iris giggles, resting her chin on her hand. "They're Hurley's special someone."
Ryunosuke and Susato gasp in unison. Once back to their own lodgings, they engage in some heated gossip, propriety be damned. "Truth be told, I was unaware Sholmes was... capable of such things." Susato sighs, thoughtfully placing a finger on her chin and looking away. "Honestly, so was I. I shall attempt to find out more from Iris when she visits me."
"Report back to me, won't you?"
"Mr Naruhodo! Where are your manners? I- Oh, who am I kidding? Of course I will."

Why is this man such a hussy? Is he trying to seduce the defense into letting him win?
"Mr Naruhodo, have you considered... these legs?"
Manwhore
🤣
I love this! He's just such a sozzled hussy of a man! The first thing that popped in my head was this exchange:
Barok: Enough. *Boosts himself up on to the prosecutor's bench*
Ryū: U-um...? What?
Barok: Your argument is irrelevant. Behold my legs.
Ryū: ?????????????????

🔎 The Adventure of the Detection Club
Chapter 4: Memoranda & The Great Detective's Plan
Table of Contents & Trigger Warnings
⚠ CHAPTER SPECIFIC WARNING: This chapter contains mild references to death and crime scene descriptions, specifically through severe and repetitive blunt force trauma.
The police hadn’t gone away for even five minutes before *Sholmes, Susato, Ryunosuke and Redford gathered their things together and got into a cab, and were already on their way to the scene of the crime.
Mr. Sholmes put the end of his pipe to his lips, but no kind of smoke seemed to be coming out of it.
“So, Mr. Nineteen—”
“—Ninate—”
“Yes, that. You’re a crime fiction writer, aren’t you?”
“Yes. I’m also a student of English Literature with the University of London.”
“Well; I do believe that Mr. Naruhodo here also studies English. Well, that is, he studied it before he became an attorney anyway.”
“What? Oh, er—yes!” Ryunosuke exclaimed, his eyes darting about the carriage as though he was following a rather excitable fly.
“Is that so?” asked Redford, his right leg resting up on the knee of his left, stroking his chin with his right hand.
“Er, yes. Though, more as a foreign language than any of the ‘literature’ end of things, that is. You’d probably want to speak to my friend Asogi if you wanted to know anything about English literature.”
“I’ll bear that in mind.”
“Although,” added Susato, “there’s also plenty to say on Japanese literature. I’m sure Mr. Naruhodo could give you some recommendations if you ever get the opportunity to study up on it.”
“Yes!” Ryunosuke suddenly exclaimed. “A former client of mine—also a Japanese exchange student—has written his own book of late. He sent me a signed copy as a thank you for defending him in court, actually. It’s called…er…how would you say it in English…? It’s…‘Wagahai wa neko de aru’.”
“I believe it would be ‘I Am A Cat’, Mr. Naruhodo.”
“Oh yes, it would. Wouldn’t it?”
“No point in asking me,” Sholmes said. “I only know a few basic phrases, such as ‘Kutsū no Fukutsū’.”
Susato asked: “Do you mean to say that your stomach has shoes, Mr. Sholmes?”
“What—No! Er, anyway, as I was saying, I don’t speak the language that well.”
“I don’t know any myself, to be honest with you. Who knows, maybe I could learn some crime-related words? Or maybe some courtroom-related words if we ever end up getting that far.”
“Well then, I promise that I’ll do my best to get you found ‘Muzai’,” said Ryunosuke.
Redford and Sholmes sat and stared at him as he began to smile and blush awkwardly as he scratched the back of his head.
“That, er, that means ‘Not Guilty’ in Japanese.”
“Oh…!
——————————
The carriage pulled up in-front of the building that housed the headquarters of the Detection Club, which, even now, was almost entirely surrounded by police constables and blue wooden barriers marked “METROPOLITAN POLICE – DO NOT PASS” in white, stencilled writing.
“Ironic that the offices of a group of crime fiction novelists ended up becoming a crime scene itself, isn’t it?” said Sholmes.
“Definitely something that even I couldn’t make up. I mean, it definitely sounds like something I wouldn’t even be bothered to sit down and write about, now that I think about it. I mean—who’d even want to sit down and read such a thing?”
Ryunosuke came back with Susato after having had a word with the constable in-charge of maintaining the perimeter around the local area. “Alright, we’ve been cleared to enter the crime scene whenever we need to.”
Susato added: “Apparently Detective Jones already sent a telegram ahead to give his approval, and said that we can access any materials involved with the investigation. And that includes the victim’s autopsy report.”
Ryunosuke, Susato and Mr. Sholmes looked up to see that Redford had already deployed a fountain pen and a brown leather-bound notebook, and was already taking what looked to be some particularly in-depth notes.
“Er, Mr. Ninate—?”
“Yes? By the way, Redford or Red will do just fine. Mr. Ninate is my father.”
“OK, er, Red…what are you doing?”
Redford didn’t even lift his head from his work. “Taking notes. You do make notes when you’re investigating something, right?”
“Well, yes, but normally we just file stuff away in the court record as opposed to…”
Ryunosuke craned his head and tried to make out the sort of things that his client was writing. Was this the so-called ‘short-hand’ that Susato had suggested he try learning?
“…a novel, is it?”
“You know, I don’t even bother making notes,” said Sholmes, proudly. “I remember it all myself, then get Dr. Wilson to write it all up when I’m done.
(Which explains so much…so, so much…) said Ryunosuke, quietly to himself.
“Well I’d prefer to keep notes. Well, if you don’t mind, that is?”
“Well not really—”
Ryunosuke didn’t get to finish that sentence. “—Excellent. I’ll just keep making notes, pretend I’m not here.”
Redford continued his note-taking intently, as though nothing had even been said at all. Ryunosuke decided to allow that point to pass without notice.
“Alright then, so the name of the victim is Harris Thomas,” Ryunosuke read from the autopsy report supplied by a constable. “Cause of death is listed as ‘repeated blows from blunt instrument’.”
Mr. Sholmes pulled the photo of the body out of the envelope it came in, immediately putting it back in again as he pulled quite the expression. “Oh my. That’s rather gory.”
“Good to know. But we should get a look at it ourse—” Ryunosuke took the envelope from Sholmes’s hands, opened it, removed the photograph and looked at it. “Oh wow, that ishorrifying.”
Susato tilted her head slightly to one side. “I’m not entirely sure what you were expecting, Mr. Naruhodo.”
The photograph, to phrase it gently, wasn’t much to look at. In fact, there wasn’t much left of the victim’s skull either, after the killer had finished what they had set out to do, that much was very much certain.
“A look around the crime scene proper’ll be able to tell us far more, though. Especially as this seems to be quite the locked room mystery as to how the killer managed to get in and out of the locked room after they killed the victim without being spotted or without any sign of forced entry or exit.”
“Well in fairness I did tell you it was a weird one. No forced entry, no other doors, a lock designed to break if it’s tampered with, and windows that barely open, all on the third storey, up there,” Redford pointed out, squinting as the sun reflected off of one of the higher windows of the building.
As the other three looked up, Redford quickly scribbled something out onto a back page of his notebook before tearing it out and handing it to Ryunosuke.
“Oh, thank you. Er…what is it, exactly?”
“A written memo, obviously. ‘No way in besides the key of the defendant. He maintains testimony that it remained on his person at the time. Only one such key exists to his knowledge. There is only one door into the room which didn’t appear forced, and as the windows only open a small amount and the room is up on the third floor of the building’.”
“I see. Thank you, then.” Ryunosuke passed it to Susato, who filed it away in her pocketbook.
“If you need me to write down anything else, do let me know.”
“Alright, er, thanks.”
“You’re welcome.”
“Right. Well then, after you,” said Redford, allowing Ryunosuke to step into the building ahead of him.
Before he could follow in after the pair, Susato caught Sholmes by his arm. “Excuse me, Mr. Sholmes…”
“Mm? What is it, Miss Mikotoba?”
“Are you planning something involving Mr. Naruhodo or Mr. Ninate?”
“No…what makes you say that?” the detective lied.
“Mr. Sholmes, you don’t exactly have the best track record for lying and being able to get away with it with any kind of great success for long, you know? You even weren’t able to keep Mr. Naruhodo’s surprise birthday party a secret from him for all of three days. And Iris and I only told you about it a week before it was due to happen!”
“Well how can I be expected notto talk to him and avoid bringing it up with him when we’re all living under the same roof?”
“What are you planning?” asked Susato, with the intonation as though she was talking to a misbehaving dog.
“Well I’ve been watching Mr. Naruhodo’s eyes all day since Mr. Ninate first came into Baker Street. He’s not been able to keep his eyes off of him all day! Even in the cab he didn’t know where to look without making it exceedingly obvious.”
“But Mr. Naruhodo ends up doing that most days anyway.”
“Still. I do believe he may have a bit of a ‘crush’ on this particular client – especially with the way that he took on the case so quickly, and especially given the particular circumstances of this case.”
“So I’m going to assume that making them share a room also falls under the idea of trying to get them together?”
“Precisely!”
“Mr. Sholmes, you really are something else, you know.”
“I try my best.”
Before they could continue any further, Ryunosuke himself shouted down the stairs.
“Susato! Mr. Sholmes! Are you coming?”
“Coming!” responded Sholmes. “Just…tying…my…shoelaces!”
“This isn’t over, Mr. Sholmes,” said Susato as they headed in together after the attorney and the writer.
*AUTHOR’S NOTE: Iris had decided to stay behind and try to repair the door that had been taken off of its hinges by the rather over-eager Detective Athelney Jones.

Ah, Hello Lord van Zieks! Many apologies for not finding my way to you sooner, I simply didn't know you had a blog to call your own! How have you been, if you don't mind me asking? And, how are Iris and Mr. Sholmes? They have yet to pop up on here, but that's to my knowledge at least.
... Mr Naruhodo. Yes, your recent forays into this digital expanse known as Tumblr.com have not escaped my notice. Pray forgive the discourtesy of not extending a greeting sooner. I trust you are well?
As for myself, I suppose all is as it should—
... Well. Apart from the current... predicament, that is. Nevertheless, I must say I find myself increasingly impressed by your remarkable resilience. Having now witnessed firsthand the exasperating nature of a certain samurai in his full, unbridled form—free from the bonds of amnesia or a vow of silence—I can only marvel at your fortitude. While some might offer sympathy for the trials you've endured alongside him, perhaps it is more fitting to commend you for your hard-won liberation at last.
Regarding Mr. Sholmes and Miss Wilson, to the best of my knowledge, they have yet to venture into this realm. Let me emphasise how imperative it is that this state of affairs persists, for the sake of our collective mental well-being. However, yes, I do believe they are faring well enough.

Lord van Zieks,
I know I have not said this recently, or, at all, but I feel the need to tell you that you are one of the best prosecutors I do know. After returning home, it is easy to see what sets you apart from the rest. You fight for the truth, not for a guilty verdict. I will always remember the tail end of the case before my absence from law and how you directly encouraged the truth to be found out. You put your faith and trust in me when it was needed most, and for that, I will thank you and praise you for everything that you have done. Always remember that even if it does not feel like it, you have done great things and are continuing to do great things.
[@ryunosuke-naruhodo-blog]
... Mr. Naruhodo.
While I do not know that I agree, or deserve such praise from you, I appreciate the sentiment.
That being said, I must correct you in one regard: I do not fight for the truth, per se. I perform my duty as a prosecutor—to argue relentlessly for the guilt of the defendant, as long as the evidence holds and my wits remain sharp—and if that ends up uncovering the truth, then it is a fortunate side effect.
... More often than not, however, I find that such... side effects tend to be the rule whenever you are standing behind the defence's bench. And yes... My view on the prosecutorial duties notwithstanding, I do ultimately treasure the truth. My opinion of you, then, shall come no more as a surprise than it did the last time I told you this: Unlike the countless spineless defence attorneys I've encountered throughout my years as a prosecutor, you are a lawyer of utmost integrity, Mr. Naruhodo. Your determination allowed a darkness most foul, otherwise left alone to rot in peace for so many years, to finally become dispersed by the light.
Although the truth may ache at times, it is crucial to keep in mind that no amount of self-deception can change reality... It merely transforms the lens through which we view the world. And I've discovered from bitter experience that clarity of sight is infinitely better than viewing the world through a distorted or darkened lens.

Dom reader, literally giving hosonaga a hickey and ryunosuke or sholmes point it out 😼😼😼😼😼
Dom reader giving aftercare, to hosonaga after that did the big dirty👉👈👉👈👉👈👉👈👈👉👈
Pairing: Satoru Hosonaga x gender neutral reader
Warnings: very mild smut, mild d/s dynamic, Ryu regretting his life choices
Wordcount: 473
Hosonaga is on his back, whining with the feel of his imminent release approaching. You are on top of him, hips canting mercilessly in an unforgiving rhythm as you chase your own pleasure whilst marking his pale neck with a set of sharp teeth. "I-I need- Oh, please!" Hosonaga keens, every nerve in his body on edge when you move just right. "Mmmh," you groan into his neck, lips still sucking a circle into the sensitive flesh. With your wordless approval, Hosonaga finds his release and you follow suit, finishing with a muffled groan against his skin.
Once you've finally caught their breath, you rise off Hosonaga's sore body, pressing a gentle kiss to his brow. You come back with a small washbasin and a clean towel, wiping the sweat and your mixed release off his body all whilst whispering praise. "You did so well, my love. So good for me," you murmur, trailing kisses over the fresh bite marks on his neck. Hosonaga's blushing bright red, that much you know without even looking at his face. He dozes off like that, naked on his back whilst you press apologetic kisses into his tender skin.
***
Hosonaga shows up to work tomorrow with a scarf wrapped tightly around his slender neck. The popped collar simply wasn't enough to hide the fresh marks, forcing him to improvise. It was thankfully a cool autumn day, so no one brought his latest fashion choice into question.
He was pleased to find an old friend, Mr Naruhodo, at the crime scene, thankfully not as the suspect for once. After exchanging pleasantries, they got to work investigating the dimly lit room. The house they were in is surprisingly hot compared to the frosty air outside. Somewhere along the way, Hosonaga mindlessly slipped the scarf off, tossing it into his briefcase.
"Detective Hosonaga!" Mr Naruhodo's gasp of surprise pulls Hosonaga out of his investigative trance, turning to face the younger man. "Yes?" Hosonaga raises an eyebrow, expecting a shocking new clue, "Did you find something, Mr Naruhodo?" The lawyer looks him up and down, sweat gathering at his forehead, shoulders slumped forward. "N-No, it's just, well- your neck looks... mauled."
Heat rises to Hosonaga's face, one hand instinctively reaching up to cover the exposed skin. "Y-Yes, it's, uhm, it's- it's an allergic reaction to, to something, I'm afraid." He's stammering over his own words, mentally cursing himself for being so careless and forgetful. Naruhodo is obviously not buying his flimsy excuse. If anything he looks as if he regrets bringing the matter up to begin with. "I see," Naruhodo replies curtly, the exasperation and regret visible on his face, "I hope it clears up soon. Perhaps you should keep that scarf on for the time being?" Hosonaga nods, inclined to agree whilst fishing through his briefcase for the soft fabric.
