MOON 31
"Well...They seem healthy enough. Other than this one."
Badgerfern watched Aloesight, his expression grim as the medicine cat checked over the four kits lying by his belly.
He knew. He knew it was bad timing. Peakpaw had died only the day before, and here he is bringing four new kits into camp.
As if he were replacing her.
But he couldn't turn his back on them. They were his kits. How was he supposed to know Peakpaw was going to die?
A feeling of guilt crept up Badgerfern's spine at the thoughts that infested his mind. How could he think that way?
It was only when Aloesight cleared his throat in annoyance that Badgerfern realized he was trying to speak with him.
"What? What's the matter?" He questioned, his ear flicking.
"You didn't hear a word I said, did you?" Aloesight grumbled. He sighed heavily. "By the stars...I was saying that this one," he gestured to one of the kits, a white she-kit with the smallest splash of black and ginger over her eye. "...She's paralyzed. It shouldn't affect her ability to become a warrior if she desires, but...I figured you would want to know."
Badgerfern opened his mouth to speak, but closed it again when Aloesight shook his head, his expression hardening.
"I also asked you where these kits came from. Have you been sneaking off AGAIN? Especially after the death of your DAUGHTER!?" Aloesight's voice, usually blunt and stoic, had now formed into a snarl, the fur on his back bristling. "What kind of a father are you!? Why do you-"
"SHE'S WHAT?"
The agonizing wail pierced through the camp, making both toms freeze.
"...Valleywave knows now." Aloesight murmured. He stood, tail lashing as he padded out of the nursery. "You better do everything in your power to fix this, Badgerfern. I can't help you this time."
Badgerfern's heart sank. Looking down at the kits at his belly, he gave them each a gentle nudge with his nose before standing and making his way into the clearing.
Valleywave was collapsed onto the ground, wailing as if her own life was the one ending. Sunpaw sat beside her mother silently, her tail wrapped around her flank.
"...I'm sorry, darlin'." Silverbreak, who was sitting in front of Valleywave, meowed softly. She must've been the one to break the news. "We did ev'rything we could, but it just-"
"Where?" Valleywave asked between sobs, glaring up at Silverbreak. "Where did you put her?"
"She's somewhere safe, we-"
"Do not give my any excuse." Valleywave slowly rose to her paws, the usual light in her eyes gone as she stalked towards the silver she-cat. "Silverbreak, where is my DAUGHTER?"
Silverbreak crouched low to the ground, her ears flattened in submission. "We buried her." She murmured, barely even whispering as she wrapped her tail protectively around her body. "She's gone, darlin'. I'm so sorry."
Valleywave stood there for a moment, stunned and silent. She soon let out a horrible shriek, a sound that made Badgerfern freeze in his place and a chill go down his spine.
"NOOO!!" She screamed, beginning to pace around the clearing. "My baby, my baby, why!? WHY!?" She looked up at the sky. The normally full night sky was now dark and gloomy, as if StarClan itself had disappeared. "CURSE YOU!!" She shouted, her fur bristled. She began to uproot dirt and grass with her claws. "CURSES TO THE STARS!! YOU TOOK HER AWAY FROM ME!!!"
"Mama, please..." Sunpaw bumped her head against Valleywave's shoulder, attempting to guide the wailing she-cat towards the medicine den. "Aloesight can give you poppy seeds, and you can get some rest..."
Valleywave whirled around, glaring at Silverbreak with a fury in her eyes that would forever burn itself into Badgerfern's memory. "YOU DIDN'T LET ME SAY GOODBYE TO HER!!" She exclaimed, not even attempting to hide the snarl in her voice. She attempted to charge at Silverbreak, claws unsheathed, but was quickly stopped by Sunpaw. "YOU'RE HORRIBLE!! I'LL KILL YOU-!!"
Silverbreak remained low, looking up at Valleywave with genuine fear in her eyes. "P-please, I didn't...Valleywave, please-"
Ambershard stepped between Valleywave and Silverbreak. He glared at the tortie she-cat, lashing his tail.
"Go to the medicine den now." He demanded, and Valleywave, still shaking in grief, obliged. She was flanked by Sunpaw, and the two disappeared into tbe medicine den.
Badgerfern slowly took a step back. He turned and went back into the nursery, where Mistlebrook was lying with his sleeping daughters.
"Don't tell her," The large brown tom grumbled. "She's not in the right state. She'll see the kits when the time is right."
Badgerfern nodded, sinking into the comfortable nest of moss. He looked down at the kits, who seemed to have sensed their father's warmth and were now crawling towards his belly once more. He gently nudged the paralyzed she-kit closer to him.
"Do they have names?" Mistlebrook questioned, wrapping his tail around his own litter defensively. "Maybe that will take your mind off of things."
"Well, I have a few names in mind..." Badgerfern murmured. He looked down at the kits. "The black and white she-cat will be Pouncekit, and the white she-cat will be Larkkit."
"Any reason you chose those names?"
"I just liked how they sounded." Badgerfern replied. He turned his head to a small gray and white tom. "...He will be Ivykit."
"And the last one?" Mistlebrook gestured towards the final kit, a small black and white tom. "He looks exactly like you. You couldn't deny him if you wanted to."
Badgerfern hesitated, staring down at the last kit. He was an active little one, his head already lifted as he tried to look around the darkened nursery.
"...I will call him Fallenkit." Badgerfern soon said, giving his tail a quick lash.
"Fallenkit? Why?"
"Because if he is blessed with the title of leader one day, he will be named Fallenstar." Badgerfern's voice was a low growl. "He will serve as a reminder of what we lost today. The day the stars have turned their backs on us...The day the stars have fallen."
Pouncekit, Larkkit, Fallenkit, and Ivykit have joined NettleClan. Larkkit is paralyzed.
Valleywave is grieving. She cannot work under these conditions.

Moon 1 - New Leaf, part 1.
Our story begins. We see a log floating atop a river, when a white paw suddenly bursts out from the depths. As this happens, a series of unidentified voices frantically shout at each other.

@ambitiousauthor
ooooooooooooooooooooooooo just had a thought
Brokenwhistle is the outcast of the family. Many crimes are accepted, but turning on the family--kit kin especially, is immediate cause to disown.
And another family member outcast? Pipitfeather.
Maybe Pipitfeather tried to get Broken to join his plans. Broken refused, and went to the Eye-Out family. That's why they were able to save Fallenkit and Waspkit when they did.
It may have been enough to give Broken another chance. He lives mostly on the outskirts of the Wooden Teeth. Redjay visits him almost daily (kinda funny, since Redjay caused him so much mental trauma)

if i was a warrior cats queen i would name my kit fallenkit so that if they became leader they would have the baller name of fallenstar. i would actually min max by naming all of my kits fallenkit until the current clan leader had to pull me aside and go I understand it's your choice but you need to stop.

I just thought of something
WHISPERleaf
FishWHISKER
Naming after yourself much buddy? Your honor thats her dad
yeah lmao the Author Lore is that fishwhisker was a character long before whisperleaf had a name so i subtly made their names similar once i knew i wanted to kill him right after she got her full name. he lives on :)
-whisker can also come from one of his moms, they were named by my patrons. normally i wouldn't do such heavy legacy naming since i already did it with fallensnow and fallenscar buuuuttt its kind of cute and i think it's funny if its family tradition that crowstar stole when she named her son fallenkit. and whisperleaf is fuming over it
Tumblr media
art is by @notchaoticferal yipiyiieeiee
I do think Autumnstar would purposely legacy name Fallensnow after his mom Snowwhisker, but Whisperleaf's -leaf suffix doesn't intentionally come from Leaffall. His mentor doesn't strike me as the type to fuss over names, she probably was like "hm. Herb boy has leaf on him. There you go"

Year 1 - Moon 3 - Greenleaf
Howlpaw's training with Kestrelstar goes poorly as her mind seems somewhere else.
"Kestrelstar, is something wrong?"
"Why do you ask, Howlpaw?"
"Well... I normally can't knock you off your paws that fast."
There was no response from the leader, only a faint twitch of her tail indicating her annoyance.
"And normally you'd tell me off for even asking you something like this."
"Then why are you asking?" Kestrelstar muttered with a growl.
Howlpaw tilted his head, frowning in thought before looking back down at his mentor. "Are you thinking about Maplefern and her kits?"
With a sudden push being felt under his paws, Howlpaw yelped as he tumbled back, Kestrelstar stretching herself out with a huff. The SeedClan leader eyed her apprentice, ears flattening before she glanced away.
"...How'd you know?"
The fluffy gray tom lowered his gaze nervously, tail wrapping around his paws. "You just seemed a little out of it ever since you and Fallendapple spoke," he admitted. His gaze shifted uncomfortably as he finally met Kestrelstar's gaze. "It's no secret she's not very happy about Maplefern being here."
"Well, she needs to get used to it," Kestrelstar growled, licking her paws before brushing it over her ear, frowning slightly as she caught Howlpaw's worried gaze. "Look Howlpaw, it's a bit complicated to explain. You're young so-"
"I wasn't around for The Great Division, I know..." Howlpaw's ears flattened with a solemn gaze. His dull expression flicked to the side, paws kneading the ground as he resisted speaking further.
Kestrelstar paused. "...We haven't told you stories, have we?"
The apprentice seemed to stiffen a bit before giving a small nod. "No one likes to talk about it..."
A pang of guilt clawed at her chest, Kestrelstar dipping her head with an apologetic gaze. "I'm sorry... When we found you... well you were so full of life. You came to SeedClan without any of the burdens we carried. None of us felt prepared to tell you what happened... Not the full tale that is."
Howlpaw's gaze widened, a mixture of fear and intrigue present in his wide hazel eyes. However, very quickly did he seem to feel guilty for wanting to know more, lowering his head.
"I know about Serpentpelt..." he slowly admitted. "He was Quillbeak's father... and the former Mediator?"
"That is right." Kestrelstar would take a seat next to her apprentice, her fur brushing against is as her voice remained low and calm. "He was a quiet, but very kind cat. He swore his life to keeping SeedClan at peace, always doing everything in his power to avoid war."
Howlpaw tilted his head slightly. "But Quillbeak seemed to always want a war. Why would he if his father was so against it?"
"Well..." Kestrelstar held her breath, flicking her ear in thought as to how to put this. "Serpentpelt wasn't a fighter - not like Quillbeak that is. He tried to prevent war... but war was ultimately what killed him. That was what The Great Division was, Howlpaw. And Quillbeak..." She trailed off, amber eyes seeming to darken. "...Quillbeak has a hard time forgiving those who took his father away. And so do many cats."
"Like Fallendapple?" Howlpaw softly asked.
"...Yes. Like Fallendapple." Kestrelstar's eyes welled with grief as she thought back to the small scrap of light brown fur - the pathetic pile that Fallenkit was when Quillbeak carried her back to camp, covered in blood. She had avoided thinking about that day... about Serpentpelt and the others, about Havenbramble and Chiveleaf - and the dark gaze of Locuststar.
"Kestrelstar?"
Howlpaw's soft mew snapped the she-cat out of it, shaking her head as she gazed at her apprentice. "I'm sorry. I promise I can tell you more. It's just..."
"No, it's ok." Howlpaw offered a small smile, reassuring as he tilted his head. "I think I can understand Quillbeak, Fallendapple, and the others a little better at least so... It's ok. Maybe just... another day."
"You will know... one day," Kestrelstar affirmed. Touching her nose to her apprentice's ear, she flicked her tail, nodding for him to follow.
"Now let's do that again. And this time I won't be distracted, so it won't be as easy, alright?"
"Yes Kestrelstar!"

Damn I might’ve broken my clangen save files.
Was liking HeartboundClan tho. The healer Budgiecry was trapped in a super toxic relationship with this guy named Barkbreeze until he was ambushed by cats and killed. Now she is happy with her wife Gustdusk. I mean not to throw any ideas but right after a few loners joined from Gustdusk’s patrols (being Sunbear and Skinktongue)
Besides them there’s the happy gay elders Mourningstar and Ravenrain. Their kittens are just about to be warriors being Cowbirdpaw, Mockingjaypaw, and Waxwingpaw.
The largest family is between the long standing couple Virgo and Aquarius who joined with their littler of Capricornthorn, Scorpiosnap and Piscespad. They have another litter being Librapaw, Tauruspaw, Leopaw, and Cancerpaw. Then adopted a kit called Ariespaw. Their last kitten is Sagittariuskit.
I have a old guy called Kettleclaw who was a kittypet and he now has a daughter called Teacuppaw. Idk I just love them.
And for some reason I had a kitten named Fallkit who died pretty early on and then I had another kitten (form Mounringstar in his first litter of Fallenkit, Bugstreak, and Someone else I’ve forgotten) who looked exactly like the kitten so I named them Fallenkit. And then they fell down a sinkhole. Idk what’s goin on with that but some curse with the fall cats is here

Moon 1 New Leaf, part 2.
Fallenkit drags herself out of the water, clinging frantically to the log. Beside her the frantic mews of Tuftkit and Mistkit tell her she isn't alone.
She calls for help, but no one will hear her.
Their clan wrongfully assume the kits could not have survived the incident.

Confusing Lack of Feelings (short story)
Fallenkit tried not to make her discomfort obvious, but her whole body was tense, ready to spring at a moment’s notice despite the fact that she knew–she knew–that she was safe in her dad’s embrace. She wasn’t discreet enough.
Myrtlewing paused his grooming. “What’s wrong?” he asked, because he always has to ask when he notices someone of the Eye-Out Thorns is unhappy. Why does someone like him care?
Pipitfeather died just over two moons ago. Myrtlewing hadn’t so much as shed a tear.
“Nothing,” she mumbled back.
“You lie as well as your father,” Myrtlewing told her gently. Too gently. “Would you mind not making me pry like he does before he admits that something is bothering him?”
Fallenkit sighed. Sitting up, she turned to face him, his paws still stretched out on either side of her. Her voice was scratchy as she spoke. “Was he really your son?” They had looked similar enough.
Myrtlewing’s eyes remained blank. “In the blood sense, yes, he was. I didn’t know he even existed until he arrived here as an adult, however.”
“Does that make a difference?”
Myrtlewing shrugged. “It does for me.”
“Would you not care if you met me as an adult?”
Myrtlewing’s eyes widened only a fraction as he realized his mistake. “I don’t know,” he answered. “But I would like to get to know you. And I love you the way you are now, adult you would be the same, only with more great traits for me to love.”
Fallenkit wished that what he was saying was helpful. She knew that it was kind, endearing, but she also knew her dad was a wonderful liar, and that everything he was saying could be utter dung. “Do you not love blood?” She still didn’t understand why she was so different, why Myrtlewing was so furious about seeing her hurt at the same time he stared at Pipitfeather’s decaying, dying form without a twitching whisker.
“I don’t think blood is everything,” Myrtlewing answered. “I didn’t love Pipitfeather, he never bothered talking to me. I did respect him, because if he is my kin then he is good, until he attacked you. There was nothing for me to love or respect then.”
Fallenkit wished that she could shake her head and have all the jumbled thoughts she had spill out of her ears, so that her dad’s words could fill the space and make sense. She knew it should, she knew it sounded reasonable, and she knew that her mind was so overfilled with confusion that more words only added to the collection instead of dispersing it.
She wasn’t even sure if her dad’s lack of emotion was what bothered her the most. It was her own.
She had been comforting by many healers–Myrtlewing, Fleathistle, Shiverrose, even Pumpkinpatch who also hates her father, every one of her kin from great ancestors to siblings, and her aunt Ferndoe. They had all said the same thing, that they understood she was hurt and confused, that it was okay to cry.
The problem was that Fallenkit only felt the confusion in addition to anger. She was angry at Pipitfeather and all those cats, most dead again now, for tricking her, for earning her trust and shattering it so that she looked like a fool. She was angry because they had hurt her and Waspkit for revenge they had nothing to do with. She was confused because that is the only thing she felt, and she was confused because Myrtlewing seemed to feel nothing, besides his concern for her.
Waspkit was still having nightmares. He still didn’t like talking about what had happened.
Fallenkit only had bad dreams for a few nights before they went away, and her reaction when she woke up was no where near as intense as Waspkit’s wailing. He cried about being attacked and witnessing Pipitfeather’s horrible death.
Fallenkit didn’t think seeing it had been a huge deal until others started to say that it was.
What was wrong with her?
Her dad was the same. She knew that much, they were open about it, how he had trouble feeling things unless it was for those he already cared deeply for–that itself also confused her. How could you care deeply for someone and care nothing for another? How do you begin to care deeply for someone if you feel nothing for them to begin with?
Was it really a blood issue? Did she get it from him, or because he raised her?
If she talked to someone else in her blood, someone not on his side and who felt things, who was normal, perhaps she could be normal then, too.
She had been silent for a while in her thoughts, so Myrtlewing had resumed his grooming. After a while longer, he began to doze off. His chin rested on her back. Carefully, she slipped out and began moving through the thorns to the outside. She was almost there when behind her, someone spoke.
“Where are you going?” Wolfpool asked. He and his siblings, as well as their parents–everyone in the family, in fact–had temporarily moved back to the main den after the kits had been attacked. Fallenkit should be grateful for it. Yet she felt nothing.
Of course she should have known that they would be extra ditiligent. There were multiple guards keeping watch on each side. Fallenkit wasn’t allowed to leave without an adult.
Wolfpool was an adult.
Debating on a lie, she decided to tell the truth. Wolfpool looked at her, then looked around them. “Okay,” he said more hushed, “duck under my belly so they won’t see you.”
Fallenkit did was told. It was difficult to manuver around the remaining branches that blocked their path, and to move as fast as her nephew while mud sucked all along her legs. She stayed hidden while Wolfpool asked anyone who passed them for directions, until at last they stopped at a large rock. It was tilted, leaning heavily against another, with vines draping down the entrance.
“Hello?” Wolfpool called.
A young, black tom with orange and bright flecks stepped out. He raised a brow. “Uh, yes?”
“Is Tanglestar here?” Fallenkit asked, stepping out.
The tom blinked at her. He turned to face the entrance. “Tanglestar! You have–uhm–visitors?”
There was shuffling, and a mumbling response, then a sleepy black tom with bigger orange and white splotches stepped out into the red light. When his eyes met Fallenkit’s, they stretched wide.
Fallenkit held his gaze firmly. “Are you my other dad?”
=============================
--Fallen calls Alder “father,” Myrtle “dad,” and Grouse “papa.”
--The Pipitfeather thing happened 2+1/2 moons ago. Fallen and Wasp are about 3+1/3 moons old, roughly.
Fallen is a ‘wise beyond her years’ kit while Wasp is a sweet baby.
--Remember how I said that Fallen feel nothing like Myrtle does, but questions it? Here we are!

And finally, the new litter:
Which is, surprisingly, from Hailrustle and Ivytail. Who are, it should be noted, not mates. Nothing wrong with it, but I think it's interesting that they and also Carnationprickle and Shatterthorn had this same situation one right after another.
