Chapter 47 - Viva Las Vegas. Episode 3.

-------Andy's point of view--------

Andy: I could hardly believe this evening! It had been magical! We did it! We were married, Evan and I!! I could hardly believe it!!! Our mate bond was sealed, now unbreakable. Could I be any happier? No. This was pure bliss. Something fairy tales are made of. I looked around the room, seeing friends and family starting to grab dinner, some were having drinks in a corner, others were dancing. The room was truly spectacular! Looking like something from a Tim Burton movie, if you ask me. Less gloomy, but still. The perfect Halloween room for sure. It was spot on. No doubt this was our wedding, as the room and atmosphere screamed our names. I could not believe how wonderful he had made it all. After eating a bit, I started dancing, mainly with Congo, but also Evan and Daniel, everyone was having so much fun, it was so amazing they had all come together in such a short time. As I had understood, they had only had since Thursday, so only 2 days. 2 short days to put this magical fairy tale together. Once again it made me feel so lucky, to have such amazing friends and family.

Sparkle: Andy… wake up! You're daydreaming again she chuckled softly and poked my arm

Andy: I chuckled hoarse Yeah… so it seems…

Sparkle: She handed me a glass of champagne Cheers darling!

Andy: Cheers gorgeous! I tabbed my glass against hers and sipped the sweet champagne Nice costume btw! I like this darker look on you… very sexy…

Sparkle: She giggled softly and looked down herself for a brief moment Thank you, I made it myself!

Andy: It's really good I smiled brightly but no surprise you made it yourself, you really have a talent for stuff like this… you always have…. such a great cosplay really… How about giving me a twirl? I smiled at her cheekily

Sparkle: Is that an excuse for checking out my ass? she chuckled softly and winked at me

Andy: You know me so well I chuckled hoarse and smiled flirtatiously

Sparkle: Well alright then she giggled softly and gave me a little twirl so I could get to see the outfit better

Andy: Niiice… makes you look older somehow… in a good way though.

Sparkle: Thanks. I kinda hoped that. But let's keep down the flirtation she pulled her tongue at me and chuckled I'm not so sure your new husband would appreciate you flirting with the girls on your wedding day?

Evan: He suddenly sweeped in from the side, planting a soft kiss on the back of my neck as he wrapped his arms around my waist line from behind I don't mind Sparkle… I love him just the way he is.

Sparkle: N'awwww, you guys are torture!! I'm so happy for you though, but also wildly jealous! She chuckled softly and pouted I need a man of my own.

Evan: Nodded towards the dance floor Well… 2 of your 3 men are out there, so, why don't you go grab one of them?

Sparkle: She blushed softly Erhm…

Andy: I looked confused at the dance floor 2 out of 3?

Evan: Chuckled secretly

Sparkle: Blushed even more, and quickly disappeared in the crowd

Andy: I turned around quickly, facing him What did I miss out on here?

Evan: Yeah, I forgot to tell you, mostly cause I tried to forget… I happened to walk in on Sparkle and my dad… having sex…. Sparkle riding him.

Andy: I laughed loudly for a short while, then looked at his serious face Wait… you're not kidding?

Evan: Looked at me dead seriously

Andy: I looked towards Robert on the dance floor Son of a bitch!

Evan: He chuckled softly According to my dad it was a one time opportunity. But let's face it, the more I try to prevent it from happening again, the more it will happen. And she made a fair point anyway. They're both adults, so they can do whatever they want. I just wish the divorce papers would have been finalized first, but at the same time, I can't really blame him either.

Andy: So… you're okay with it?

Evan: Yeah… well he wrinkled his nose a bit As okay as I can be with something like that he smiled softly Let's dance! *He grabbed one of my hands, quickly leading me to the dance floor, dancing to the happy tunes*: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACpOIX38Lvk

------Congo's point of view-------

Congo: *The evening went by great, and every time I looked at Andy and Evan, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by their joy and get a little teary. I had some long nice talks with both Robert and Leonard about the boys and their whole life up until now. Concentrating only on the good stuff of course. It was safe to say this day was a success. From where we were sitting we could easily watch the evening move along. People dancing, drinking, eating, laughing and sometimes people were posing for pictures. Once in a while we joined in on the dancing as well, when someone bit us up for a dance that is. Sparkle even came by twice to ask me personal for a dance, as Daniel kept teasing her, so I guess she needed someone to hide behind for a while, I gladly accepted each time. I had just had a glass of Whiskey with Evan as Clover tabbed her glass, and stood up.

Clover: Could I have everyone's attention? She smiled warmly as the music lowered and everybody turned their attention towards her This is not per say a toast, it's just a small note I would like to read. I found it today, by random, in an old recipe book of mine. And I thought it was very fitting for this day. Not only for what the day itself means, but also for your wedding. She cleared her throat, and unfolded a little old note of paper, reading loud and clear with a warm voice Samhain Magic: We count the days till Samhain comes. It is the witches New Year, All Hallows Eve and the spirit world takes flight. We gather in sacred ritual with candles, a flame under harvest moon light. We call to the ancestors who have been here before, as we seek wisdom and insight. It is the Sabbath of Samhain, a most enchanted magical night. She folded the paper and slit it back into her suit, smiling warmly at Andy and Evan with tears in her eyes and raised her glass To the groom and groom! Everyone lifted their glasses as well and cheered to the couple

Congo: It did really suit the evening, she was right. Sacred ritual it sure had been, the ceremony, so perfect and very much in line with their souls. And an enchanted magical night it for sure also was. I looked around at everybody as they started dancing and doing whatever they were doing before. There were just as much happiness around, as there had been on Andy and my wedding. You could feel the love all around. It was truly heartwarming and soothing. I noticed Evan's cigs on the table, and quickly dragged one out of the package, including his lighter and snuck outside to enjoy the view and some chilled evening air on my face. I leaned my back against the wall, and lit the cig, only few seconds later noticing I wasn't alone, as I saw something move out of the corner or my eye

Katherine: Sorry, did I startle you?

Congo: I smiled warmly No… I just didn't expect someone else to have had the same idea as me I chuckled softly and took a drag of the cig

Katherine: She chuckled softly Yeah… I needed a bit of fresh air after dancing with Daniel she chuckled softly He sure knows how to take up some space on the dance floor while dancing, eh?

Congo: I chuckled warmly He sure does.

Katherine: She took a deep relaxed breath and sighed happily towards the sky What a beautiful night!

Congo: I looked at the stars, it sure was

Kat: So how are you feeling my darling?

Congo: Happy. I smiled at her warmly and took another drag of the cig I'm very very happy Katherine. Thank you for asking. And how are you?

Kat: I'm a proud mama, that's what I am she chuckled softly and sipped a beer she apparently had been hiding on the other side of her that I couldn't see.

Congo: I like your outfit, Sheriff I smiled warmly at her, and nodded at her Sheriff dress great choice!

Kat: She chuckled warmly Yeah… I wanted to make sure that both Andy and Daniel would behave nice today, I am after all still a mom… I have to remind the youngsters that even if they are all grown up, I still have some authority she chuckled softly and shook her head No, I'm afraid this is all Lenny's doing she pointed towards her breasts, that today looked particularly large It's the frills… they seem to enhance what was already there, and he is a boob man after all, so, can we really blame him?

Congo: I laughed warmly No, I guess we really cant! I like his outfit too though… it was quite unexpected… did you pick his then?

Kat: Nah… that's Lenny's own doing again. He said he wanted to be 'hip with the kids' whatever that means she chuckled warmly, and I couldn't help but follow

Congo: So which costume do you like the best?

Kat: Tough choice… I think I would have to go with either Sparkle or Clover… I really like the sexiness of Clovers, although I personally would never have the guts to wear something like that. And she even dressed it down a bit by wearing tights under, as there were peek holes at both crotch and buttocks according to her. She thought it was a tad inappropriate for a wedding, even if it was Andy's wedding she chuckled softly But I also really love Sparkles, and the amount of effort she put into putting it all together, and sewing the dress. And for once I actually know the character she's trying to portrait… well, technically I also know Clovers character. It was easy with that fiery red hair and the green suit.

Congo: I nodded and blew some smoke out Yes… both ladies really did a great job. So… who is the most surprising outfit? We were both quiet few seconds, then spoke out the name at the same time GEORGE!!

Kat: She laughed loudly I guess he also had an urge to feel 'hip with the kids'?!

Congo: I nodded and laughed warmly I guess so! And he seems very much into the roll as well… every other sentence he tries to squeeze in words like YOLO, LMAO and OMG I chuckled warmly I mostly try to avoid him as I feel my brain can't take it much more.

Kat: She laughed warmly Yes… I try my best to steer around him as well.

George: YOLO SWAGSTERS!! suddenly the teen found us with a big happy smile on his face Evan says he needs us all to gather, so… He pointed towards the party

Kat: We both looked at each other and then burst out laughing

George: He chuckled softly and we quickly followed him inside, Kathrine linking her arm with mine leaning against me, as she was still laughing too much to walk straight.

For all of his idiosyncrasies as a filmmaker, Steven Soderbergh has long thrived on collaborating with some of the biggest movie stars on the planet. After his indie beginnings transitioned into working with studios like Universal and Warner Bros., Soderbergh has often worked with a familiar group of A-listers, from George Clooney to Benicio Del Toro to Matt Damon. After a brief hiatus from features, Soderbergh is back this week with the laid-back, delightfully entertaining Logan Lucky, whose ensemble cast includes Daniel Craig, Riley Keough and the director’s latest and most interesting collaborator to date, Channing Tatum.

Over the last five years specifically, Tatum has managed to change his own trajectory as an actor and star by tweaking his persona as a buff himbo. Roles in boisterous comedies like 21 Jump Street and grim dramas like Foxcatcher suggested that Tatum understood how he was perceived and could skew that perception satisfactorily. But his work with Soderbergh over five films — including 2011’s Haywire, 2012’s Magic Mike, 2013’s Side Effects and 2015’s Magic Mike XXL (Soderbergh didn’t direct, but served as cinematographer and editor) — also suggests his complexities as a performer. Logan Lucky, in which Tatum plays Jimmy Logan, a struggling West Virginia man who decides to rob the bank vault underneath the Charlotte Motor Speedway during the Coca-Cola 600, highlights Tatum’s natural charisma and emphasizes the unrealized potential he can embody in the right role.

There’s a similar sense of squandered possibilities in Tatum’s biggest film with Soderbergh, Magic Mike. Inspired by Tatum’s earlier life as a male stripper, Magic Mike focuses as much on bumping and grinding at Xquisite Strip Club as it does on Mike trying to escape the club to do something more valuable with his life. (Magic Mike XXL has Mike return to his roots, at least for one last fling, with the suggestion that he enjoys it far more than his furniture business.) In Logan Lucky, Tatum’s character is all about lost opportunities: Jimmy used to be a football star in his small town with hopes of going to the NFL before a leg injury left him with a permanent limp. His choice to rob a bank — as lo-fi as possible, to the point of having a grocery-list-esque checklist of what to expect from committing such a crime — is primarily driven by his desire to seem like less of a layabout to his daughter and ex-wife, Bobbie (Katie Holmes).

The character of Jimmy Logan is a bigger stretch for Tatum than the characters in his other collaborations with Soderbergh, including Haywire and Side Effects. The suggestion that Jimmy used to be a big fish in a little pond is often undercut by his current reality; he’s laid off in the opening minutes, gets into a nasty bar fight that he’s losing before being aided by his one-armed brother (Adam Driver), and struggles to assert himself with his ex-wife and her loutish husband. Jimmy Logan is not, perhaps, as wild a leap for Tatum as a performer as it is for a bleach-blond Daniel Craig to play a Southern-fried convict here. But it’s part of a consistent push that Tatum has made when working with Soderbergh. The director is challenging him as much as he challenges himself.

In this respect, the Soderbergh-Tatum collaborations are close to equal to the films Soderbergh made with George Clooney in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The most recognizable Soderbergh films with Clooney as the lead are, of course, the slickly enjoyable Ocean’s trilogy (aside from a few winking jokes at Clooney’s age, there’s not much of a challenge there for the star). But Soderbergh’s remake of Solaris, made in between the first two Ocean’s movies, as well as the Elmore Leonard adaptation Out of Sight suggested that the filmmaker saw in Clooney the same potential to play darker, three-dimensional characters whose outward appearances belie a kind of pain beneath. Soderbergh has worked often with Matt Damon, but outside of the Ocean’s trilogy, Damon’s roles in films like The Informant! and Contagion are more varied without a common thematic thread.

Logan Lucky is, on the surface, a fun lark of a film and a welcome return to the big screen for Soderbergh. The film earns the inside-baseball moniker of “Ocean’s 7-11” in its depiction of a heist whose participants can’t begin to amass the resources or crew members that Danny Ocean was able to get together to rob a trio of casinos. But Tatum’s lead performance is a major part of why the film works as more than just a laid-back couple of hours at the movies. It’s further confirmation not only that Tatum has more layers than his earlier work may suggest, but also that that Soderbergh is one of the best living directors able to tie a movie star to a character that requires more than just a pretty face.

January 8 - Choir Boy Opens on Broadway

Moonlight scribe Tarell Alvin McCraney's 2013 drama Choir Boy will reunite stars of the acclaimed off-Broadway debut production, including Jeremy Pope, Tony winner Chuck Cooper and Tony nominee Austin Pendleton with original off-Broadway director Trip Cullman. The story centers on Pharus (Pope), a talented student has been waiting for years to take his rightful place as the leader of the school's legendary gospel choir.

February 19 - Merrily We Roll Along Opens Off-Broadway

The innovative company Fiasco Theater will present a new production of George Furth and Stephen Sondheim's iconic musical Merrily We Roll Along. Fiasco's Co-Artistic Director Noah Brody directs the show, which revolves around a former composer named Franklin Shepard, who has abandoned his friends and music career to become a Hollywood producer. The musical goes backward, showing snapshots of his life.

March 14 - Kiss Me, Kate Opens on Broadway

Time to brush up your Shakespeare! Kelli O'Hara and Will Chase are set to star in the Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate at Studio 54. The story centers on a cast putting on a musical version of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew and the conflict on and offstage between Fred Graham (Chase), the show's director, producer and star, and the leading lady, his ex-wife Lilli Vanessi (O'Hara).

March 21 - Ain't Too Proud Opens on Broadway Get ready 'cause here the Temptations musical comes! With a score filled with Motown classics, Ain't Too Proud chronicles the life and times of The Temptations, one of the greatest R&B groups of all time. The musical stars Derrick Baskin as Otis Williams, Ephraim Sykes as David Ruffin, Jarvis B. Manning Jr. as Al Bryant, James Harkness as Paul Williams and Jeremy Pope (yes, from Choir Boy) as Eddie Kendricks.

April 11 - Gary Opens on Broadway

Tony winners and comedy royals Nathan Lane and Andrea Martin return to Broadway this season in Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus, a new comedy by Pulitzer Prize finalist Taylor Mac. Gary is set during the fall of the Roman Empire, when the years of bloody battles are over: The civil war has ended. There are casualties everywhere, and two very lowly servants (played by Lane and Martin) are charged with cleaning up the bodies.

April 17 - Hadestown Opens on Broadway

Hadestown, the new musical by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and directed by Rachel Chavkin, follows the mythical quest of Orpheus to overcome Hades and regain the favor of his one true love, Eurydice. Casting has yet to be announced for Broadway, but original stars of the 2016 off-Broadway premiere Patrick Page and Amber Gray as well as Eva Noblezada, André De Shields and Reeve Carney are currently appearing in the London production.

April 18 - Hillary and Clinton Opens on Broadway

Laurie Metcalf and John Lithgow will star in Lucas Hnath's Hillary and Clinton, which examines the politics of marriage, gender roles and the limitations of experience and inevitability in a look at a dynasty in crisis. During the early days of 2008, former First Lady Hillary (Metcalf) is in a desperate bid to save her campaign for President. 5 Questions with Sally Wen Mao, Author of Oculus

Sally Wen Mao is the author of a previous poetry collection, Mad Honey Symposium. She has received fellowships from the New York Public Library Cullman Center, the George Washington University, and Kundiman. Visit her website at sallywenmao.com. Sally will be celebrating her newest book, Oculus, published by Graywolf, at City Lights Bookstore, in conversation with Jennifer S. Cheng on Thursday, March 14th, 2019.

City Lights: If you’ve been to City Lights before, what’s your memory of the visit? If you haven’t been here before, what are you expecting?

Sally Wen Mao: I grew up in the Bay Area, and my memories of visiting City Lights always involve me being in awe of all the history that surrounds it––Ginsberg, Kerouac, the Beats. I have always loved the quiet and sunshine of the Poetry Room upstairs, and the fact that the store is close to Chinatown. It's always been an iconic space for me, a haven of sorts. The most recent time I visited was for an event with Viet Thanh Nguyen and Maxine Hong Kingston, and watching them banter and converse was so thrilling.

CL: What’s the first book you read & what are you reading right now?

SWM: The first book I read that I still remember vividly is probably One Hundred Years of Solitude. I read it in ninth grade. As for the actual first book I read . . . I'm not sure if I remember! I loved Roald Dahl, Goosebumps, and the Baby-Sitters Club series as a kid. Currently I'm reading Ornamentalism by Anne Anlin Cheng, The Idiot by Elif Batuman, and Zora Neale Hurston's Dust Tracks on a Road.

CL: What are 3 books you would you never part with?

SWM: Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde, The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin, and Dictee by Theresa Hak Kyung Cha.

CL: What writers/artists/people do you find the most influential to the writing of this book and/or your writing in general?

SWM: Ai, June Jordan, Cathy Park Hong, Nam June Paik, Lucille Clifton, Audre Lorde, Frida Kahlo, Langston Hughes, Satoshi Kon, James Baldwin, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, Ana Mendieta, Rihanna, and Anna May Wong, and probably so many more.

CL: If you opened a bookstore tomorrow, where would it be located, what would it be called, and what would your bestseller be?

SWM: I'd love a bookstore that's as huge as a library, with treasure troves of books arranged in beautiful sculptural formations. It would have an oculus or a skylight on the top, and lots of beautiful quiet spaces––tables and chairs––for studying and writing. The bestseller would be all books by women of color. A literal safe space. This is all a fantasy, but you know.

Chapter 50 - Derailed. Episode 2.

-------Evan's point of view-------

Evan: I reached my hand down in my pocket as my phone vibrated. I had forgotten I even had it on me. One message from Lily on Facebook. 'Heads up! A has 7 new pictures of him, V and the child. Also, new picture of Marius on M's profile. He build a snowman' I frowned. About a week ago, I had asked her to keep an eye on those two profiles. I was getting tired at looking them up, but at the same time I still need to know what goes on, in order to prevent our world from coming down if Andy decides to spy on A the wrong day. Or Congo decides to pay M's a visit, for that matter. I frowned again. And then I noticed. I was jealous… of Marius! My cheeks blushed. I shook my head and quickly went to M's profile. I would deal with that one first, as it was the easiest one. Yes, a new picture of M and her husband. We have kinda similar nose. Never noticed that before? Hm? And yes… a picture of Marius, two guys, one of them obviously a vamp, based on that dead skin tone. Hm. Maybe someone A has hooked him up with? He had changed so much the past year, even his hair had gotten longer and darker. But it was without a doubt him. His soul was shining through. I sighed deep as I felt the jealousy again. I would hate for Congo to see this, and get sad. Because he still had feelings for the little one. I had come to a place in our relationship where I felt uncomfortable if he loved anyone but me… well anyone but Andy and me. And Daniel. Moving on to A's profile. First picture… A smiling at the camera? With his arms on V's shoulders. V placed a hand on top of one of A's. Yeah, Andy would not like this one. Specially since someone I can only imagine is A's ex wife, the vampire also is in the pic. Building a snowman with A's new daughter. Then one more picture with focus on the child and the woman, A and V in the back chatting. One of A hugging the child. One of V and the child playing. One of A goofing with the kid, V goofing with the woman. And lastly a romantic pic with A and V alone. That one would sting. I sighed softly and returned to Lily's message. 'Thanks for the heads up. Kinda lost my appetite. Signing off.' I sighed yet again, and slipped my phone back in my pocket.

Congo: Are you okay? he planted a tiny kiss on my cheek bone

Evan: Yeah I smiled softly I just kinda don't have an appetite.

Congo: Well, those potatoes does look a bit dry? He smiled softly How about a bit more sauce to make them glide down better? Hm? He smiled warmly and handed me the sauce with a hopeful look in his eyes

Evan: I couldn't say no. I knew how it worried him when I didn't eat. It probably reminded him of back when Andy used to skip meals and refuse to eat. So I smiled softly and took two big spoon fulls, covering my potatoes and meat It's the red wine sauce? Right? I smiled softly as I nodded at the others around the table It looks like that's the one most is having?

Congo: He nodded softly Yes… it's very delicious. Only Andy, Gaby and Akin aren't eating of it, as far as I can see. He reached it slowly towards Gaby It's really good Gaby, have you tried?

Gaby: She nodded softly Yes, I did, thank you, I made it after all she winked and chuckled softly

Congo: Akin, how about you? Would you like some?

Akin: Smiled politely No thank you, I have plenty of the other sauce. I thought it was a shame no one paid it any attention. As he said so he nodded towards Andy

Evan: Yeah, I got that little hint

Congo: Anyone else needing sauce?

Lenny: Oh yes please! He quickly grabbed the bowl and started almost pouring sauce on his plate eagerly

Evan: I chuckled softly I have never seen anyone being so enthusiastic about sauce before. Not even Daniel! So I quickly scooped a half potato up on my fork and bit it. Yes, okay, admitted. This sauce was amazing!*

-------Congo's point of view---------

Congo: I was very happy to observe Evan getting some food down. And he seemed to like it a lot. Gaby and Lenny were both amazing cooks, and it seemed like Akin knew his way around a kitchen too. So it wasn't much of a wonder the dinner was delicious Andy… that sauce has alcohol…. maybe you should eat the other one sweetheart? My voice was warm and suggesting as I noticed he had been munching the red wine sauce

Andy: So I'm not allowed to get some solid dick, and I'm not allowed to the red wine sauce either? There's not enough in here to even feel the alcohol, it's just for the taste. He sighed deep, shook his head and scooped more food up on his fork, making sure he got extra amount of sauce in the process

Congo: Andy, please.

Andy: Glared at me as he stuck the fork in his mouth Mmmmm

Gaby: Congo, it would be okay just this once.

Akin: Gaby… he hardly needs it. Quite the opposite.

Congo: I sighed as Andy took another glaring bite It's up to the doctor I guess? I looked at Akin with pleading eyes

Akin: He sighed softly and looked at Andy with firm eyes Andy, I think it's best you don't eat more.

Andy: Looked at both of us with and upset pout FINE! And there his knife and fork went crashing down on the plate, creating a lot of noise as he let go of them and left the table to go sulk on the couch

Daniel: Looked at me a bit surprised as he dried sauce stains off his cheek

Congo: I sighed softly and looked at all of them I apologize. His hormones are a little

Andy: UNFUCKED! That's what they are!!!

Congo: I smiled apologizing at everyone, and got up, quickly walking to Daniel, grabbing his chin, and leaning his head backwards a bit, so I could get to dap the rest of the sauce off with my napkin There you go. I smiled warmly at him and padded his shoulder Are you okay?

Daniel: Yeh? Why?

Congo: I don't know? It seems like you're blushing? I chuckled softly

Daniel: Uhh it's… uhh… a bit warm in here… he nodded under the table and moved a bit on his chair so I could get to see a bulge in his pants. Was he? Oh yes… he was hard.

Congo: I cleared my voice as I felt something stir in my own pants Right. I quickly made it back to my chair, sipping the wine quickly to cool down, and in the process I caught Gaby's eyes. She looked somewhat amused? About 15 minutes later we were all done eating, the table had been cleared, and Irish coffee had been put on the table, alongside beers, and other alcohols. Robert had just opened a brandy and was cheering with Lenny. They had both gained quite a color in their cheeks. Gaby had just put a record on, so the music was flowing through the living room. Akin was lighting a fire in the fire place, and Andy was still sulking on the couch, playing with his phone. Evan and Daniel was lost in a conversation about bikes, but seemed to get more and more distracted, as their eyes kept getting caught on Andy. George had just poured some Irish coffee for both of us and asked me to join him at a game of poker.

Daniel: Ey! Let's make that strip poker!

Congo: I chuckled warmly I thought you were having a conversation with Evan?

Daniel: Was, is a good word Congo he winked at me and made his way around the table

Congo: Halfway through our game of strip poker, George was 1 shirt down, and now it looked like I was one down as well, as Daniel just beat me

Daniel: BOOYA!! That was fucking hard man!

Andy: Grunted from his place in the couch Yeah, that's not the only thing fucking hard here! And I would also like to be fucked hard, if anyone should be interested!

Akin: He smiled at me softly Any takers?

Congo: I sighed softly and looked pleading at Daniel, hoping he would somehow lend a helping hand

Daniel: Don't look at me…

Akin: Guys… this pregnancy might as well end up taking full 9 months. Are you prepared to neglect him for that long?

Congo: He did have a point

Which Alabama counties have the most Democrats and which has the most Republicans?

It turns out even the Reddest of Red states has a drop of Blue.

24/7 Wall Street;recently used voting data and a review of current and historical representation in Congress to determine the political leanings counties across the country. That index was then used to determine the most Democratic – and most Republican – counties in each state.

Alabama is a solid Republican state but the analysis found pockets of Democratic support. For example, in 2012, 61 percent of Alabama voters opted for Republican candidate Mitt Romney, one of the highest shares the losing candidate received from any state. In Greene County, however, 85 percent of the voters cast their ballot for President Obama. What’s more, Greene County helped send a Democrat to the U.S. House of Representatives in each of the last five Congressional elections.

That’s enough to make Greene County the most Democratic county in Alabama.

And what about the most Republican County? There is a lot of competition for that title but the recognition goes to Blount county, according to;24/7 Wall Street. In 2012, more than 86 percent of voters cast their ballot for GOP nominee Romney, the highest share of any county in Alabama. Also, county residents are represented in the House by the 4th and 6th Congressional Districts, both of which are held by Republicans.

I want to follow up on my last post regarding how variations in poll results are often due to differences in how pollsters construct their samples. The previous post talked primarily about whether pollsters were sampling likely or registered voters. Obama, I suggested, polled better among registered voters. ;Today I want to look at another decision pollsters must make: whether to weight their sample by party identification and, if so, what weights to use. We know that whether one considers oneself a Democrat or a Republican is the biggest single determinant of how someone will vote. Not surprisingly, people tend to vote for the candidate who shares their party identification. So a poll that includes 40% Democrats in its sample is likely to have more favorable results for Obama than one that includes 35% Democrats, all other things being equal. Ditto for McCain and variations in the number of Republicans sampled.

To see how this makes a difference, consider two ;respected national polls that came out yesterday. CBS/NY Times came out with their monthly national poll that has Obama up 49-44, with 6 undecided.

Rasmussen, meanwhile, has the race tied, 48-48% in its latest tracking poll.

I show you these numbers to give you an idea of what it means to weight by party.; But why does it matter? Compare the CBS weighting to what Rasmussen calculates when they weight by party.

Are You Surrounded By Democrats Or Republicans How Jersey Breaks Red And Blue In All 21 Counties

Here is a county-by-county breakdown of which political party rules in each of New Jerseys 21 counties and how much each party gained since this time last year.

New Jersey is a Democratic-leaning state, and its getting bluer by the month.

Democrats have registered voters at a faster pace than Republicans in the Garden State. But the GOP still maintains pockets of control in some counties.

Republicans are outnumbered by registered Democrats by nearly 1 million people , according to the latest statistics from the states Division of Elections. As of the end of September, New Jersey had 2,307,937 registered Democrats and 1,331,102 Republicans.

Over the past year, Democrats added more than double the number of registered voters compared to the GOP , according to the data.

However, registered Republicans outnumber Democrats in six of the states 21 counties, and there are a few other counties that are pretty evenly split. Also, Republicans out registered the number of new Democrats in six counties from this time last year, including in three counties where the number of Ds outweigh the Rs.

The largest number of New Jersey voters 2,378,040 to be exact have not formally claimed any party affiliation.

Twelve years ago, Democrats had a 290,000 vote plurality over registered Republicans statewide, said Ben Dworkin, director of Rowan Universitys Institute for Public Policy and Citizenship.

Voter registration is the requirement that a person eligible to vote registers on an electoral roll before that person is entitled or permitted to vote. Voter registration may be automatic or may require each eligible person to submit an application. Registration varies between jurisdictions.

Illinois: Error Registered A Possible 545 Noncitizen Voters

CHICAGO An error in Illinois new automatic voter registration system led to a possible 545 non-U.S. citizens being registered to vote, 15 of whom cast ballots, state officials publicly acknowledged this week.

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse Whites office, which oversees drivers licenses, said the data of 574 people who self-identified as non-citizens was erroneously forwarded to elections officials to be registered to vote. Election officials confirmed Tuesday that 545 of them were ultimately registered.

It was a computer error, White spokesman Dave Druker said Tuesday. We moved to correct it and contacted people involved.

As Illinois Republicans called for an immediate hearing over a serious breach of voter protections, election officials worked to determine how many of the registrations were indeed invalid. Over 150 registrations had been canceled, said State Board of Elections spokesman Matt Dietrich.

Dietrich said it was possible some people indicated that they werent citizens by mistake. When Illinois residents get standard drivers licenses, they have to confirm they meet the criteria to vote, certifying they are 18 and a U.S. citizen. Party Registration Is Often A Lagging Indicator

A voters party registration is a strong indicator of who theyll support, but its not a guarantee. In fact, many voters registered with one party have actually been voting for the other party in recent elections but havent necessarily switched their registration to reflect the party they actually support.

Take Pennsylvania, for example. The once-Democratic southwestern part has shifted sharply toward the GOP over the past couple of decades. However, party registration figures havent necessarily reflected that movement as much as you might expect. For instance, Greene County along the West Virginia border voted for Trump by 40 percentage points in 2016, yet preelection registration figures1 show that party identification is split almost evenly, with registered Republicans and Democrats each making up 45 percent of the countys voters.

Part of whats going on is that many older voters in that region are still registered as Democrats, even if they back Republicans for most federal offices. Conversely, the suburban counties around Philadelphia in the eastern part of the state used to form the base of the state Republican Party, but even though that area has moved toward the Democrats in recent elections, some Democratic-leaning voters havent changed their party registration. In other words, big shifts in party registration sometimes tell us something we already know, and arent a signal of a new shift in attitudes.

Polling Data Shows Republican Party Affiliation Is Down As Independents Leaning Toward The Democratic Party Surge

Democrats have a nine-percentage-point affiliation advantage over Republicans at the moment.

The GOP is losing its grip, according to the latest Gallup poll.;

The number of Americans identifying as Republicans or as independents who lean toward the GOP dropped to 40% in the first quarter of 2021, compared with the number of Democrats or independents leaning toward the Democratic party hitting 49%. And that nine-percentage-point lead is the greatest Democratic advantage that Gallup has measured since the fourth quarter of 2012, when former President Barack Obama was re-elected.;

Gallup routinely measures U.S. adults party identification and the political leanings of independents. The latest poll surveyed a random sample of 3,960 U.S. adults by phone between January and March of 2021. And while Democratic Party affiliation actually dropped by one point from the fourth quarter of 2020, to 30% where it has hovered for most of the past eight years the number of Americans identifying as independent rose to 44% from 38% last quarter. And this growing number of independents came at the expense of the Republican party, as 19% of independents said they lean Democrat, compared with 15% leaning Republican. Most of the remaining 11% of independents didnt swing either way.;

And several events have happened during those three months that could position the Democratic Party more favorably in voters eyes, the Gallup report noted.;

Past Jumps In Party Affiliations

The bump in Democratic affiliation following Bidens inauguration mirrors that of former President Barack Obamas first term, Jones said.

That was really the high point that weve seen; kind of the 2006-2009 period, when really the majority of Americans either identified as Democrats outright or were independents but they leaned toward the party, he said.;Our data on this only goes back to the 90s, but its pretty much the only time we consistently had one party with the majority of Americans on their side.

Republican advantages, though rarer and more short-lived, followed the Gulf War in 1991 when George H.W. Bush was in office and the 9/11 terrorist attacks during President George W. Bushs term, according to Gallup. More people also reported GOP affiliation after the 1994, 2010 and 2014 midterm elections.

Whether the Republican Party can regain advantage during the 2022 midterm elections may rely on the successes of the Biden administration, according to Jones.

A lot of it is going to depend on how things go over the course of the year. If things get better with the coronavirus and the economy bounces back and a lot of people expect Biden can keep relatively strong approval ratings, then that will be better for the Democrats, Jones said.;But if things start to get worse unemployment goes up or coronavirus gets worse; then his approval is going to go down. Its going to make things a lot better for the Republican Party for the midterm next year.
