Hakuoki Tsukikage Souji Story 2
re: star trek picard episode 9 reveal. i called it. i fucking called it.
Anyway, CN translations of the longest of Okita-hen's extras on showed up on bilibili... and honestly, part of me is saying that I should do something with that as someone who wants translations of the hakumyu extras, but I still haven't watched Okita-hen... and I have no idea how accurate said translations are (the same group also did translations of LIVE's extras, but I really, really, really, really do not want to compare them to the file available now to check for accuracy).... Also, I already hate translating videos and am already working on something else that is longer...
Meh. whatever. today's translation was originally published in B’s Log 2019年9月.
enjoy!

Hakuoki Tsukikage B’s Log 2019年9月 Okita Short Story “Fumidzuki (文月)” [meaning the 7th month]
Translation by KumoriYami
"....What are you doing?"
"!? Ah, Okita-san..."
I turned around and saw Okita-san standing there, looking stunned. I quickly got up and bowed my head to apologise.
"It's fine. I'm just wondering so many books have been gathered here."
Okita-san glanced at the books spread over the streets and sat down in a gap between some.
Since I had time, I explained to Okita-san.
Since the rainy season seems to be almost over, I'm airing them out to dissipating the moisture like this…"
"Oh.... ah, these are Kondou-san's, right?"
"?Indeed they are..."
Okita-san, who now had a book in his hand, had a troubled expression on his face for some reason.
"Kondou-san is fond of books about heroes. He's lent me some before."
"I see. Were they very interesting?"
"Not really. Compared ot the heroes that everyone knows about, I think Kondou-san is much more amazing. Furthermore, I didn't finish reading (those)."
"Huh?"
"I don't want to read about such trivialities. I only asked Heisuke about them, and he said their contents would be interesting to Kondou-san."
It was difficult for me to react to Okita-san, who was speaking calmly. Even if I wanted to say something, I couldn't say it.
"....They don't suit me."
That's when Okita-san sighed and (was about to) speak/spoke [the sentence I have just says "...sighed and spoke". alternatively, i guess this could be interpreted as "Okita-san spoke then sighed" or that he spoke with a sigh.... i don't feel like checking the raw].
"Ah, it's Yukimura, and also Souji! Haha, today's weather is great for airing things out!"
"Eh, Kondou-san...!"
I was in a panic because of the topic just now. But Okita-san smiled as if nothing had happened.
"Because these books are so memorable, I read them. Look, I've read this before…"
"Ah, I remember. This book is quite rare and Souji also thought it was quite interesting. How about reading it again since you have such a rare opportunity?"
"Yes. If Kondou-san choose (it/something), I'll read it."
After Okita-san said that, Kondou-san smiled, and happily searched for a/some rare book/s.
Since I was unable to accept what was going on [I guess 'process' might make more sense than 'accept' given the context...], I could only shift my gaze away from the two of them.
(I don't know anything, I don't know anything...)
"After you finish it, please be sure to tell me what you think of it. Then, I'll be looking forward to that."
After giving the book recommendation to Okita-san, Kondou-san happily left.
Then, there was a moment of silence—
"...Chizuru-chan...."
I didn't want to hear those words—
"After you read this, tell me the details."
"HUH?! Um, Kondou-san's recommendation, it'd really be better if you carefully read—"
"As I mentioned earlier. People have things they are and aren't suited for."
As he said that, he pushed the book aside before Okita-san then stood and stretched.
"Then, I'll leave it to you."
I stared blankly at Okita-san who cheerfully walked away…
Is this okay, Okita-san…?

Update: What is next?
*This is the last week of the poll so just in case you mist it I'm posting it here*
Hello everyone, Artz here! Sinds I officially finished translating Chou no Doku, I'm planning to start a new project. So I'm ask you guy what you'd like to see the most! I have two games I'd like to translate: Hakuoki Reimeiroku AND Hakuoki Shinkai Tenun no Shou.
Hakuoki Shinkai Tenun no Shou is essentially the sequel to “Hakuōki Shinkai: Ginsei no Shō” and Hakuōki Shinkai: Tsukikage no Shō” games, both of which were released previously on the Switch. This time, the story takes place in Kyoto, where the Shinsengumi were active in the past, and spins the story of their youth and memories that were not depicted in the main story, including incidents of various sizes that are recounted along with the events of the four seasons. It is a relatively short game so it won't take super long to translate.
Hakuoki Reimeiroku is prequel to the Hakouki series that follows the story of Ibuki and his life with the Roshigumi. This game is a lot longer than Tenun no Shou and in the Switch version they added some extra side stories. So depending how interested you guys are, I can translate the whole game (which will take a long time) or only translate the side stories and maybe the endings as well.
And so here I ask what interested you guys the most! After Sakamoto's side story I'll start working on the next project, so the wait probably won't be too long.

Exploring videos that replace Touken Ranbu's music with Hakuoki's Hanamaru version 🌸🌸🌸
Personally, I found that some of Aika's songs fit some of the Hanamaru endings better than the original ones. Since some of the imagery of the EDs is so melancholic while the song is so upbeat just didn't seem to fit very well together
Song List (with links)
Hanamaru Opening = Hakuouki Yuugiroku DS Opening
Kashuu and Yasusada's ED = Hakuouki Zuisouroku PS Vita ED
Oda-gumi ED = Hakuouki Movie 2 ED
Toushirou Siblings ED = Hakuouki Zuisouroku PSP ED
Kane-san & Horikawa ED = Hakuouki Reimeiroku PS3 OP
Mikazuki Munechika ED = Hakuouki Zuisouroku PS2 ED
Otegine ED = Hakuouki Yuugiroku 2 OP
Nikkari Aoe ED = Hakuouki Kyoto Winds ED
Imanotsurugi & Iwatooshi ED = Hakuouki Kyoukaroku PS Vita ED
Rai siblings ED = Hakuouki Yuugiroku ED
Yamatonokami Yasusada ED = Hakuouki Anime OP 1
Yasusada leaves for Kiwame = Hakuouki Kaikoroku iOS/Android OP
Hanamaru season Finale ED = Hakuouki Yuugiroku DS Opening
My personal favorites are the Toshirou siblings, Mikazuki's and Kashuu, and Yasusada's ED.
The song in the Toushirou siblings' ending fits with the imagery really well and highlights really well how much the siblings miss Ichi-nii.
The song for Mikazuki's ending is called Sora no Kagami meaning "Mirror of the Sky" or "Sky's Mirror". There is a lot of reflection and night sky imagery in Mikazuki's ending and it honestly fits so perfectly together. 🌙
The song for Kashuu and Yasusada's ending talks about destiny and being born to meet. Souji in Tsukikage talks about destined swords for a samurai and how he wanted Yasusada because he felt that Yasusada was his destined sword. Also when the music swells into that guitar rift and shows Yasusada standing proud with the sakura petals falling around him, leaves such an impact. ❤
also yeah...the person who made the video didn't know how to edit out the Tourabu OST during the scene where they fight the Keiibishi before replacing it with the Hakuouki OST. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ eh, it is what it is
which one is your favorite? \( ̄︶ ̄*\))

WE DID IT.  HAKUOUKI’S OTOMATE APRIL FOOLS 2021 100% translated and subbed, here you go.
It took a little longer than I thought ‘cause it was a pain in da ass for @salty-hakuouki to translate and for me to edit/subtitle, you’ll get what I mean once you watch it. PLUS there was a really ambiguous dialogue we didn’t understand at first, but I think now  everything makes sense. I had to turn into Sherlock to figure it out, though.
Anyway, I will add my theory about the whole plot later, just in case you feel like you didn’t understand what’s going on with Shinpachi.

Okita - Ode to a Nightingale
A poem by John Keats about mortality and... tuberculosis (hence expressions about breathing, e.g. “singing in full-throated ease”).
Both Keats and (RL) Okita Sōji died of tuberculosis at age 25*.
(*25 by East Asian age reckoning. Allegedly. Nobody knows for sure what year Okita was born in.)
See full poem below.
My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains
My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk,
Or emptied some dull opiate to the drains
One minute past, and Lethe-wards had sunk:
'Tis not through envy of thy happy lot,
But being too happy in thine happiness,—
That thou, light-winged Dryad of the trees,
In some melodious plot
Of beechen green, and shadows numberless,
Singest of summer in full-throated ease.
O, for a draught of vintage! that hath been
Cool'd a long age in the deep-delved earth,
Tasting of Flora and the country green,
Dance, and Provencal song, and sunburnt mirth!
O for a beaker full of the warm South,
Full of the true, the blushful Hippocrene,
With beaded bubbles winking at the brim,
And purple-stained mouth;
That I might drink, and leave the world unseen,
And with thee fade away into the forest dim:
Fade far away, dissolve, and quite forget
What thou among the leaves hast never known,
The weariness, the fever, and the fret
Here, where men sit and hear each other groan;
Where palsy shakes a few, sad, last gray hairs,
Where youth grows pale, and spectre-thin, and dies;
Where but to think is to be full of sorrow
And leaden-eyed despairs,
Where Beauty cannot keep her lustrous eyes,
Or new Love pine at them beyond to-morrow.
Away! away! for I will fly to thee,
Not charioted by Bacchus and his pards,
But on the viewless wings of Poesy,
Though the dull brain perplexes and retards:
Already with thee! tender is the night,
And haply the Queen-Moon is on her throne,
Cluster'd around by all her starry Fays;
But here there is no light,
Save what from heaven is with the breezes blown
Through verdurous glooms and winding mossy ways.
I cannot see what flowers are at my feet,
Nor what soft incense hangs upon the boughs,
But, in embalmed darkness, guess each sweet
Wherewith the seasonable month endows
The grass, the thicket, and the fruit-tree wild;
White hawthorn, and the pastoral eglantine;
Fast fading violets cover'd up in leaves;
And mid-May's eldest child,
The coming musk-rose, full of dewy wine,
The murmurous haunt of flies on summer eves.
Darkling I listen; and, for many a time
I have been half in love with easeful Death,
Call'd him soft names in many a mused rhyme,
To take into the air my quiet breath;
Now more than ever seems it rich to die,
To cease upon the midnight with no pain,
While thou art pouring forth thy soul abroad
In such an ecstasy!
Still wouldst thou sing, and I have ears in vain—
To thy high requiem become a sod.
Thou wast not born for death, immortal Bird!
No hungry generations tread thee down;
The voice I hear this passing night was heard
In ancient days by emperor and clown:
Perhaps the self-same song that found a path
Through the sad heart of Ruth, when, sick for home,
She stood in tears amid the alien corn;
The same that oft-times hath
Charm'd magic casements, opening on the foam
Of perilous seas, in faery lands forlorn.
Forlorn! the very word is like a bell
To toil me back from thee to my sole self!
Adieu! the fancy cannot cheat so well
As she is fam'd to do, deceiving elf.
Adieu! adieu! thy plaintive anthem fades
Past the near meadows, over the still stream,
Up the hill-side; and now 'tis buried deep
In the next valley-glades:
Was it a vision, or a waking dream?
Fled is that music:—Do I wake or sleep?

Hakuoki Tsukikage Kazama Short Story
This is the last translation to make up for March (only four not five since i don't count a week because of my bday)... I'm probably just going to translate the rest of what I can for April...
Also I hate tax law. Taxes themselves are something I'm okay with to a degree since I'm probably more federalist and like health care and the idea of dental care, but looking through who knows how many statues and laws from the CRA for just one thing is something I wish I didn't subject myself to lol.
ANYWAY.
The story for this translation was originally published in B's-LOG 2019年11月号.
Tumblr media
the last of these I'll be able to translate are the Souji one with the books, the Saito story with the flower in winter, the Harada story and the one for Souma.... i think those haven't been translated?
Hakuoki Tsukikage B’s Log 2019年11月 Kazama Short Story “Nagatsuki (長月)” [meaning the 9th month of the lunar calendar]
Translation by KumoriYami
"This was all that could be prepared."
"No, it's nothing. I should be the one apologising for forcing you to do this."
With a plate in my hand that I received from the hostess who bowed her head to apologise, I greeted her before going back to the room.
On our journey to Aizu, this was the only inn we could find.
The closer to the battlefield, the fewer people there were, and the once lively stores and inns tightly shut their doors.
This was something that had been realized after camping out several times, [though] Amagiri-san found that there was inn operating at the end of the road/street [not sure about the first half here].
(It was thanks to Amagiri-san...)
Chizuru sighed as she thought this.
"...Too slow."
Back in the room, Kazama-san had already put on his yukata and was relaxing as he looked out the window.
Ever since we left Edo, Kazmaa-san had been wearing simple western-style sleeves.
Although that really suited him, I still thought he was more attractive while wearing a kimono.
"Out of kindness, the hostess provided me with a choushi. What do you think about this?"
According to ChatGPT (since I could not find a response I liked through google): "In Japanese, 铫子 (choushi) is called "yakan" (ヤカン) which refers to a kettle or a pot used for boiling water or heating liquids, often made of metal or ceramic. It is commonly used for making tea or coffee, but can also be used for warming sake or other alcoholic beverages." T/N: the raw itself uses "铫子"
"Hmph… this sake is not to my taste, but if you want to pour it, I'll drink it."
In response to his arrogant statements, I smiled wryly and poured some sake for him.
I wasn't used to his behaviour before, but now I've completely accepted it.
(He is actually a very emotional person…)
I already know that now.
As I listened to the sound of insects in the distance, I poured sake into his cup.
In this private room [In private?], he was unexpectedly quiet, and was fond of silence, so I didn't have to force myself to greet him.
His posture as he looked up at the moon was so graceful, like the appearance of someone in a painting—
(What am I thinking...)
For some reason, I was now very concerned about Kazama-san's inner thoughts/opinions.
"It's almost the fifteenth night [Alternatively, this can be interpreted as "the night of the full moon" like in the Juugoyabana drama].
"This sake is no good, but I can it's not bad as a side dish to appreciating the moon."
In contrast to his sarcasm, his eyes were gentle.
"When you're satisfied and aren't asking for more, it's easy to get what you want. In this world, there are too many foolish fossils [term is for people out of date or have fallen behind] who have forgotten this."
His words penetrated deeply into my heart.
With my own eyes, I have witnessed what people who pursue profit and those who have robbed others to satisfy their own desires. I saw firsthand what that looked like to the state of my hometown.
If Kazama-san wasn't at my side, perhaps I wouldn't be able to endure it.
"...So, are you satisfied now?"
"What a foolish question."
The corners of his mouth curled into a smile at the me who was feeling shy.
"If you want me to feel satisfied, let me satisfy myself first… it is useless to have another's person way of thinking/thoughts fulfilled by someone else."
(...He truly is a gentle person.)
The words I heard were a comfort to me who was worrying about those still fighting, and those yet to fight.
As he looked up towards the moon again, and I silently thanked him.
