The Bucharest authorities will seek the extradition of Prince Paul-Philippe of Romania after he was apprehended by police on Sunday in Malta.
The fugitive royal was convicted in 2020 of corrupt activities related to the illegal restitution of expensive real estate near Bucharest, to which he falsely claimed ownership.
However, Prince Paul fled Romania before the final sentencing by the Brasov Court of Appeal.
In June 2022, he was apprehended on the street in Paris and presented a passport issued by the British authorities.
However, the Paris Court of Appeals this year refused to extradite him to Romania.
Romania’s Minister of Justice Alina Gorghiu explained that the Paris court ruled that the Romanian judging panel in the trial of Prince Paul was unlawfully composed.
Prince Paul argued in front of the Paris court that one of the judges who convicted him in Romania had not actually taken an oath of office.
On April 6 this year, the Romanian Justice Ministry representatives said that the French court had accepted this argument and refused to approve the extradition.
The fugitive royal said in a statement issued by his lawyers after the Paris ruling that he had received “what was denied me in Romania: a fair trial based on evidence and impartial application of the law”, Radio France International reported.
Prince Paul was convicted in December 2020 at the Brasov Court of Appeal of buying influence and complicity in the crime of abuse of office against the public interest. He was sentenced to three years and four months in prison.
The court found that between 2006 and 2013, he illegally claimed the right to land, including the Snagov Forest and the Baneasa Royal Farm, an upmarket area near Bucharest, to which he had no right of ownership.
The cost to the state amounted to 145 million euros – 135 million euros for the royal farmlands and 10 million euros for the forest.
Although he is known as Prince Paul or Prince Paul-Philippe of Romania, he is not recognised as a member of the House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen nor the Royal House of Romania. He is also known as Paul-Philippe Hohenzollern.
He is the grandson of King Carol II of Romania, who ruled between 1930 and 1940, and the son of Mircea Grigore Carol Lambrino, also known as Mircea Grigore Carol Hohenzollern, and his first wife, Helene Henriette Naravitzine.

1870-Ems Dispatch
Tumblr media
The Ems Dispatch (French: Dépêche d'Ems, German: Emser Depesche), sometimes called the Ems Telegram, was published on 13 July 1870; it incited the Second French Empire to declare war on the Kingdom of Prussia on 19 July 1870, starting the Franco-Prussian War. The actual dispatch was an internal telegram sent by Heinrich Abeken from Prussian King Wilhelm I's vacationing site at Ems to Otto von Bismarck in Berlin, describing demands made by the French ambassador concerning the Spanish succession. Bismarck, the chancellor (head of government) of the North German Confederation, released a statement to the press, stirring up emotions in both France and Germany.
Tumblr media
In early 1870, the German Prince Leopold, of the Roman Catholic cadet branchHohenzollern-Sigmaringen,[2] had been offered the vacant Spanish throne. French Emperor Napoleon III and his government voiced concern over a possible Spanish alliance with the Protestant House of Hohenzollern, which ruled the Kingdom of Prussia, protested against the offer and hinted at war. Following the protests by France, Leopold had withdrawn his acceptance on 11 July 1870, which was already considered a diplomatic defeat for Prussia. [3] The French were still not satisfied and demanded further commitments, especially a guarantee by the Prussian king that no member of any branch of his Hohenzollern family would ever be a candidate for the Spanish throne.
Tumblr media
On 13 July 1870, King Wilhelm I of Prussia, on his morning stroll in the Kurpark in Ems, was stopped by Count Vincent Benedetti,[4] the French ambassador to Prussia since 1864. Benedetti had been instructed by his superior, Foreign Minister Agenor, duc de Gramont, to present the French demand that the king should guarantee that he would never again permit the candidacy of a Hohenzollern prince to the Spanish throne.[5] The meeting was informal and took place on the promenade of the Kursaal with the King's entourage at a discreet distance. Politely and in a friendly manner,[6] "with the courtesy that never failed him", the King refused to bind himself to any course of action into the indefinite future. After their exchange, "the two departed coolly."
Tumblr media
Heinrich Abeken, Privy Legation Councillor of the North German Confederation's Foreign Office, wrote an account of the event for Otto von Bismarck in Berlin. Wilhelm described Benedetti as "annoyingly persistent". The King asked Bismarck to release an account of the events. Bismarck had full liberty to inform the press in a suitable way; it was not his task to publish Abeken's original report. Bismarck decided to use some of Abeken's wording for his own press release.[8] He removed Wilhelm's conciliatory phrases and emphasised the real issue. The French had made certain demands under threat of war, and Wilhelm had refused them. That was a clear statement of the facts.
Tumblr media
Certainly, Bismarck's text, released on the evening of the same day (13 July) to the media and foreign embassies, gave the impression both that Benedetti was rather more demanding and that the King was exceedingly abrupt. It was designed to give the French the impression that the King had insulted Benedetti; likewise, the Germans interpreted the modified dispatch as Benedetti insulting the King. Bismarck had viewed the worsening relations with France with open satisfaction. If war had to come, then better sooner than later. His press release, he assured his friends, "would have the effect of a red rag on the Gallic [French] bull."[10] The document was then to be presented as the cause of the war.

Hi!
What European royal family you want to learn more about in general? (im saying European because ik you’re mostly interested in them, but can be any) 😁
Hello anon! I have to admit, I’m pretty knowledgeable when it comes to European Royal families, but there are a few that I would definitely want to know to the extent that I know, let’s say, like how I know the Romanovs.
I think the royal families (yes there is multiple ahahsjaks) that I would definitely want to know more about is all of the German Duchies, more specifically, houses of Oldenburg, Reuss, Hohenzollern, Hohenzollern Sigmaringen (idk if I’m spelling that right), and all of the other intricate families of Germany. They are so underrated and are related too and make up some of the major royal families of today. They are so cool and there are a lot of them and hard to memorize so I hope I do in the future!
Thank you for asking and sorry this took awhile to answer!

A multicultural site in the Carpathian Mountains
Tumblr media
Peleș Castle (Castelul Valea Peleș in Romanian) is located in the Peleș Valley, near the Romanian town of Sinaia. Built during the reign of King Carol I of Romania between 1873 and 1914, the castle combines elements of various architectural styles, from German Renaissance to Bavarian Gothic.
The castle, designed by architects Johannes Schultz, Karel Liman and Carol Benesch, served as a summer residence for the Romanian royal family and its profile is notable for its pointed towers, elaborate ornamental designs and unique mix of colours, ranging from pure white to warm shades of yellow and brown.
The interior of the castle has more than 160 opulently decorated rooms, where different architectural and artistic styles merge, such as Spanish, Italian and Turkish.
Its initiator was a German prince of the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen dynasty, who became Domnitor in 1886. This title was equivalent to that of prince or grand duke and comes from the Latin word dominus. He enlarged the country's territories against the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria.
Peleș Castle houses a valuable art collection, including paintings, sculptures and decorative objects, many of which were acquired by Romanian kings until the abdication of the last monarch in 1947. In addition, the castle's library houses a rich collection of ancient books and manuscripts.
The grounds surrounding the castle are occupied by lush gardens, with ornaments such as fountains and statues. The castle is located in the Carpathian Mountains, providing an impressive mountainous backdrop.

Love as the Curse
By: Princess Mae V. Rabara

Back in the old days of , there was a little boy named Johnny. He was born to a rich family of Muller. But he lived where one’s heart sinks.  He cried a river as he woke up every time in the morning. Not knowing he was cursed of the unfathomable sadness. When he reached 21 years of age, he tried to move out assuming that his house was the one that makes him cry.

“Mutti, I will be going now.”

“Forgive me my son for bringing you into this world” His mother replied.

He travelled from his hometown Königsberg to the mountains of Hohenzollern and became a Court Maid. He served under Prince Karl of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. However, as he was cleaning the floors of the royal court he saw a pretty fine young lady named Marie Antoinette Murat. She was known to be the niece of Joachim Murat, King of Naples. Her beauty is known to the town and was first met by Little Johnny. At that time the lady was young and was looking for a man to be his husband.

“What’s your name my young lady?”

“I am Princess Marie Antoinette; Are you Johnny the new court maid?” She replied

“Yes, what brings you here princess?”

while the Princess said “Oh, I was just looking for someone”.

Little did they know their conversation made time fly fast as they grew fond of each other. Every time the Princess visits the Court, as she is a member of the House of Murat, she always finds a way to look for Little Johnny.

“Have you seen Johnny here?” Looking for the young man he was close to.

“I’m here Princess! Looking for someone?”

she replied “There you are”.

Both of them are cursed with the same spell that makes Johnny shed tears in the morning. But for the first time, they experienced the unimaginable. They felt love. Both of them knew that, for which they understood the realms of love. To give time for each other, to accept each other, and to sacrifice for the sake of each other. Love can never be too selfish or arrogant; Love is to wait the time we can never love again.

“How about we play a game? A game we can’t find each other and will have to look everywhere for him/her to be found.” said Little Johnny

“Yes, I love that. Let’s count 1-2-3 and pick who’s it” The Princess replied

“All right. I’ll be the it… 1-2-3 (whoooooshhh) Here I come.” said Little Johnny.

They were happy playing as flowers singing in the skies.  It was one of their greatest moments in their youth. They laughed as loud as the lion’s den and annoyed everyone in the town because of their Rowdy Silence. While in the peak of the hill looking at the stars

Little Johnny said “Promise me, we will still be happy even though we’re never meant for each other. I know you’ll be marri-“

“Shussshh! No, you’ll always be my number one. I promise, we’ll go against the odds.” said the Princess

“It’s just that, even though the curse was gone. I’m still worried you’ll be taken away from me and be lonely again…” said Little Johnny sadly

While the Princess kissed Little Johnny under his pouty lips. Below the big blue moon, he knew that it will be a war for him to continue this type of love. She is a royal family member while  he is a commoner. The fate which shouldn’t have been intertwined with each other.

One time, Little Johnny was nowhere to be seen as he was wandering in the woods for a gift to the relatively close birthday of the Princess. The Princess was unaware of this act and kept her worried; She let the guards and the royal court find where Little Johnny is. Then Prince of Hohenzollern, Karl, helped the Princess find for Little Johnny. While Little Johnny is in the woods, he found an apothecary with a wizard residing. He asked the wizard if there’s a possibility for him to be with the Princess forever.

While holding the ball, the gift of love which states that “There is no other way except death, to die is the only way to be with whom forever does not exist.”

He had a conversation with the wizard for many hours; These hours are converted into days and when they finally ended talking. Little Johnny was enlightened of the whole future. But before Little Johnny left, the wizard told him that

“Be careful of thy heart, Danger to gloom awaits you. Seek thy Love and she will answer to forget”.

Little Johnny was frustrated of the last words of the wizard.
So then, when he arrived, he was trying to find for the Princess not knowing that all members of the Royal Court was called by the Prince of Hohenzollern’s Father Anton Aloys, the then Prince of the House of Hohenzollern. They have agreed to marry Karl, the hereditary prince, to Princess Marie Antoinette Murat, which will constitute the union of French Imperial and Prussian royal dynasties. It was an arranged and fixed marriage announced before the birthday of the Princess. When Little Johnny arrived, he saw the eyes of guilt inside the Princess for being said to be married to the hereditary prince, Karl.

“I’m sorry Johnny, I never knew this would be to happen in the future. My love for you was never enough for your good heart. I am sorry” said the Princess

“No, my lady. You are enough. It would be a greater sorrow for me not to see you happily married with kids in your hand. To love is to love not knowing I have loved.” said Little Johnny.

They kissed for the last time with tears then falling in their eyes. The cursed was never uplifted but both of them continued to cry before and after their sleep. It was never the curse that made them cry, it was the absolute loneliness in their existence as they never received love. Little Johnny and the Princess never received any attention and grew independently without the power of their families.

At the end of winter, the Princess married the new Prince of Hohenzoller, Karl. They grew close to each other as he was the one who helped the Princess find for Little Johnny. However, the Princess never did stopped shedding tears, as well as Little Johnny. So then when they met in the Royal Court, they forced themselves to smile hiding their feelings for each other. As time drew them apart, they find solace on their longing for each other. The Princess had 4 children with the Prince but nevermore had been seen to be happy again. She was bedridden for 10 years and before she died, she called for Little Johnny.

“Johnny, Before I die please forget my name in your heart as my eyes close with a smile.” said the Princess

“Ne’er did I forget your smile in my heart; I will continue to love you in death. But let us do what made us happy before we close ourselves to end.” said Little Johnny

Before the time ends, they have travelled outside the castle. They continued what they did before the years the Princess was a maiden. They chuckled as loud as the thunder, dashed as fast as the wind, and frightened the nights with their love.  Before Midnight, they need to get back to the Royal Court. In the wagon, while whispering secrets, Little Johnny kissed the Princess. They killed themselves of that kiss as their breaths became one and suffocated their hearts. They died a tragic death, but their will to be with each other was forever will they achieve. Before their burial, the gift was placed in the heart of the lovers. The Prince was amazed, that he took the gift and opened it to the public.

What is thy gift?

House of Wied-Neuwied & of Hohenzollern: Princess Elisabeth of Wied
Elisabeth was born as the oldest child to Prince Hermann of Wied and his wife Princess Marie of Nassau-Weilburg. She was a niece of Grand Duke Adolphe of Luxemburg, Queen Sophia of Sweden, Princess Helene of Waldeck and Pyrmont as well as Countess Luitgarde of Solms-Laubach. Elisabeth was also the aunt of Prince of
Elisabeth was educated by Georg Sauerwein and Clara Schumann. She showed an interest in literature and music from an early age. If it had been up to her, she would have loved to become a teacher. At the age of 25, she spent time a Berlin court where she met Prince Karl Eitel of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, who became Prince of Romania in 1866 and King in 1881. Elisabeth had been considered to become the wife of The Prince of Wales at one point. Queen Victoria had actually desired the match and asked her daughter Empress Victoria to inspect Elisabeth. Victoria wrote back that she did not see Elisabeth fit to be queen nor to be to her brother’s liking while suggesting Alexandra of Denmark instead.
Elisabeth married Karl on November 15th, 1869, which made her Princess of Romania. The couple only had a daughter together, Maria. Unfortunately she died at the young age of only three. Her mother never really recovered from her loss. Due to the lack of heirs, her husband adopted his nephew Prince Ferdinand of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen in 1881.
Ferdinand soon had an affair with Elena Văcărescu. Elisabeth encouraged it despite knowing that Elena could never be more than a mistress to Ferdinand. When the affair was discovered, the two women were sent into exile and Ferdinand on a trip through Europe find a bride who he found in Princess Marie of Edinburgh, the daughter of The Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
Throughout her life Elisabeth authored several books under the pen name Carmen Sylva. She also translated Romanian books into German and promoted the country and its culture by doing so. Elisabeth was friends with Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary with whom she had much in common. For example, Elisabeth too was a liberal minded person who actually preferred a republic over a kingdom.
In her time as Romanian consort, she did a lot of charity work. For example, the Romanian National Society for the Blind was founded by her and she was the first royal patron of the Romanian Red Cross. During the Romanian War of Independence, she devoted herself to the care of the wounded and rewarded those who did likewise with her newly founded Cross of Queen Elisabeth.
Elisabeth died on March 2nd, 1916, in Bukarest. She rests in Curtea de Argeș. In her home of Neuwied, a school and a park are named after her.
