WKRP Turkey Drop Episode: Arthur Carlson: 'As God As My Witness, I Thought Turkey's Could Fly'

I don’t believe there has been a funnier episode in TV history and certainly not on WKRP. This is the episode that this show is known for that was a hit for I believe five season. And this show is one of the best sitcoms of all-time as far as being able to make people laugh. And having the writers and cast that can deliver the lines and perform the scenes. So this show…

All About Steve (2009) Phil Traill 1h 39m [Trashy Tuesday]
“On the journey of life, just find someone as normal as you.” - Mary
I’m always curious about bad movies starring talented people. They’ve been in good movies in the past, so why pick this one? Will it be so obviously bad that it was clearly the lure of a paycheck, or will we watch some beautiful material that’s been mangled? That’s behind the selection of All About Steve.
The film was vilified in the press when it came out…and long after. So why did Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper, Ken Jeong and Thomas Haden Church all agree to be in it?
Well, to their credit it had a lot of potential.
Sandra Bullock plays quirky protagonist Mary Horowitz, who writes crossword puzzles for the local paper, lives with her caring parents, and loves her red boots even if no one else does. Mom and Dad (Beth Grant and Howard Hessman) set Mary up on a blind date with Steve (Bradley Cooper) a camera operator for a cable news network. When Steve gets called out to cover a story, Mary misunderstands and thinks she should follow him. He’s cute and she’d like to get some action.
She makes friends with some protestors outside the hospital where Steve is covering a medical sensation. Mary hitches a ride with them and along the road, Steve drifts from her mind because she’s having a good time with her new pals. As they pull up just outside the sinkhole, Steve and his crew are waiting just past the onlookers.
See, doesn’t that seem like fun?
The film looks great too. Big bright production. Colourful outdoor locations with solid production design in a summery palette. No expense spared.
I feel like the intention was, “A road trip movie that’s Amelie by way of the Farrelly brothers” (right down to the lead being named Mary and “About” in the title for Pete’s sake). She’s a smart but awkward misfit trying to find her place in the world. Regrettably the script feels like it was being rewritten as it was being filmed; we go places and learn things that never pay off and the tone of the performances feel disconnected from each other.
I dig what they were going for in All About Steve but the execution did not live up to the sum of the parts. It’s a light entertainment that doesn’t ever lift.
The Brak Show #22: “Coma” | October 12, 2003 - 11:30 PM | S03E02
Maybe one of the worst ever, and that’s saying something. Coma is about Dad buying a vacuum cleaner, Thunderclease falling in love with it, Brak being wacky, and Zorak being mean. Tepid, first-thought comedy spews out of every character’s mouth. Wonderbird shows up again, sings a song about liking corpulent women, and it’s one of many gags that seems like a flagrant place-holder for a more clever joke that never gets written.
I am one-hundo-precento convinced that this entire script was written as a challenge to write a Brak episode in 12 minutes. It’s extremely stream-of-conscious style writing. I guess it’s harmless silliness, so I will pretend to not be mad at it, but Jesus Christ. I think that’s why there’s that “bonus” episode at the end of the show: this was written as a stunt to see just how quickly you can crap a script out and it resulted in a too-short episode. Sucks shit. Fuck you Brak. FUUUUUCK YOUUUUUUU.

Wow, a real non-anonymous message from longtime Adult Swim guy KON!
Very unintentionally funny part in "Coma" when they do the second intro to the mini-sode featuring the Brak family drawn in CalArts-style, because if the Brak Show came out between 10 years later and now it would have had a hardcore devoted fanbase of smol beans that produced lots of fanart in that same style.
They probably could do a Bird-Girl-esque reboot of Brak Man and call it BRAK GIRL but also they don’t actually do anything to feminize him. He’s AMBIGUOUSLY CODED. I’m doing that thing where I take relatively recent social justice jargon and I use it SARCASTICALLY to show how much of a cool edgelord I am. Anyway, it’s BRAK GIRL and it’s Cal Arts style and Brak now cusses and discourages viewers from getting the vaccine with a lot of dry pseudoscience
I gotta go hop onto the toilet want me to pick something up for you on the way?
I need PARSLEY
Jerry should have Brak be on Comedians in Cars. It can't be any worse than Miranda Sings and they can sing that awful song he did with Freddie Prinze.
Oh man, that would be so great. Jerry takes Brak home and they go to space in his cool old car and maybe Elon can make a cameo :D and then he walks into Brak’s kitchen with him and Dad is there and it’s just 7 minutes of George Lowe ad-libbing about not being able to do the voice anymore.
Did Dave Grubber Allen ever make his mark on adult swim. I only know him from The Higgins Boys and Gruber, Freaks and Geeks, and Naked Trucker and T-Bones. Quite a bit, if I could brag but did he ever make the final plunge to cartoon network?
Uh, you forgot when he played the warm-up comic that gets fired on Comedy Product. I don’t think he--
Very prolific man. The Howard Hessman for the Gen X generation and I don't say that lightly. Whoops I lost the rest of my message. Maybe I already sent it? Oh well, you figure it out I gotta go.
Sorry I didn’t realize you weren’t done. Anyway, I’m not sure he ever did “go be on” adult swim yet. He was on Crackle, though. Do you like Crackle originals

Howard Hesseman passed away Saturday, due to complications from a surgery. He was 81. His career spanned many decades, but he’s probably known vest for his role as Dr. Johnny Fever, the counter-culture DJ on WKRP in Cincinnati which ran from 1978 through 1982. Howard Hesseman received two Emmy nominations for his…
