gah, talk abt complicated alkdsjflkjdsf even if both these ladies were total angels (unfortunately, amira is however a demon alksdjfskljdf) are in an objectively difficult situation no question lakjsdafkljdsjf

but yes as i mentioned...amira is the worst so unfrotunately that only makes the whole thing worSE!! our girl amira frankly resented marian from the word go, too, bc she'd only been married abt a year when marian started moving in on her man (aka the man she was already sharing bc she'd done the same thing to his prev wife lkajsfkljsdf)

to be blunt, amira does NOT love or even care abt roderick!!! she's literally planning to kill him someday when it suits her!!!! lakjsdfkljsdjf but roderick is incredibly useful to her!!!! tho significantly less useful if he 1) can't give her a baby and 2) is having babies w other women instead!!!!!!!! like, the whole reason she married roderick was to ensure that she'd someday be the emperor's mother, and here this idiot goes bringing other wives home when he's only given amira a single YEAR's chance to try and conceive. talk about inconsiderate smdh alksjdfklsjdfkdjf

so yeah, the point is, it really isn't even personal but amira ~instantly loathed marian she was a muchhh bigger fly in the ointment to amira, initially, than even the empress bc she started popping out kids before amira did, and those kids were, worst of all, boys!!!!

still, she'll never hurt marian and ill tell you why but it requires some backstory. so i hc that amira actually poisoned the empress to death when -- tho she hadn't formally announced it to the world yet -- she found out she was pregnant again and amira was like 'i can't risk her having a son bc she has precedence over me and that's what im bsing edmund's claim on' so yeah she killed her, but then roderick was so woe begone and shattered by her death that amira was like 'huh i just made guin's claim stronger, didn't i?' and so she's def not willing to risk roderick having a smiliar reaction, should anything happen to marian.

as a result, she despises her, but she's also like 'did you have all your peas? drink all your milk? you WILL stay healthy, dammit!' but all while poisnoning her on the dl to keep her from carrying a baby again lakjsflkjsdfkj so yeah i feel like there's just a whole lot of weirdness here!!1 amira also sort of...goes on jags where she's by turns kind to or rude to marian's kids, bc sometimes if, say, sebastian or arthur is dueling edmund, amira'll go over and bandage and clean their cuts and touch their face and say v gently 'my, you're doing so well, my sweet boy. won't you try just a little harder? you're so brave, i know you help your brother grow strong, and he needs you right now to help him. will you do it?' etc or else she'll snipe and sneer at them in a corridor just bc they stepped on her hem or whatever and like alksjdfkljdsfj

basically it all comes down to what serves her and edmund most. she believes the rivalry between their sons strengthens edmund, but she also believes that he'll need to kill them someday bc she's known there would be a war from the moment marian announced to the family that she was w child honestly lakjsdaflkjsdfkj

i do also think they're v different women, too -- they both aim to be good moms, yknow, but they go abt it in as opposite a way as you possibly ~can yknow? and marian seems to have this romantic streak, whereas amira is all clear-cut practicality, and amira struggles w emotions, feeling them, expressing them, understanding them in others etc, whereas marian seems like she's v attuned to those things in others? like...they just seem like this study in contrasts to me? so i feel like there's lots we could make out of that!!

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Freya tbh!!! im love her. she’s the only one I actively ship Merlin with, but I’m pretty chill seeing him with pretty much anyone else, too, except Arthur ’cause squick, Morgana ’cause no, Gwen ’cause they’re such good friends I don’t want to lose that, and Lancelot because Lancelot is Merlin’s Tired Older Brother and you WILL let me have that for as long as i continue to adore and support it. also this goes without saying but according to AO3 it doesnt: i don’t like Merlin/Uther or Merlin/Gaius or Merlin/Mordred either because age difference. everyone else is chill!! lol I’m v v picky about who is allowed to love one Merlin Emrys.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: GIVE ME THAT GOOD PLATONIC MERLIN AND ARTHUR ALL DAY EVERY DAY. Also REALLY love Merlin’s friendship with Gwaine and Gwen and Lancelot, as discussed before, and his relationship with Gaius ((dfgbfdfdcv “you are the son i never had” LITERALLY DEATH WOULD BE KINDER))

My unpopular opinion about this character: tbh the Merlin fandom runs on discourse lmao so I’m honestly not sure what could be considered “unpopular”? I don’t think many people address that he sort of coddled and sheltered Arthur a lot, and that gets on my nerves. He claims to have the deepest respect for Arthur, but he clearly doesn’t trust him to be smart enough or kind enough or noble enough to do the right thing when it counts. I wish there could have been more instances where Merlin left the decisions in Arthur’s hands. It would have made their friendship feel even just a touch more equal, which is something it was severely lacking by even as early as S3.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: wHY DIDN’T ANYONE EVER JUST LIKE GIVE THIS KID A FUCKING HUG OR SOMETHING GODDAMN IT?? OR EVEN JUST FIND OUT HIS SECRET AND SWEAR TO KEEP IT AND /NOT DIE TRAGICALLY RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS FUCKING EYES????????? WOULD THAT HAVE BEEN SO HARD BBC. BBC WOULD THAT HAVE BEEN SO HARD. htghgfgfb aLSO really wish we could have seen more of Merlin’s interactions with the magical community?? he seems v uncomfortable and even upset with his destiny as Emrys, even by the end of the series, and I really would have liked an episode, maybe a season finale, even, where we get to see him fully accept and embrace the magnitude of his power. LET MERLIN EMRYS ACCEPT HIMSELF 2KFOREVER.

hot take but while most of the stuff in the boycottgensh!n tag, like xinyan’s backstory/her being described as scary looks-wise, sumeru, lack of darker charas (n the few there r r misrepresented [see: xinyan]) n the hilichurls thing r Legitimate n should b Acknowledged n talked abt n r Bad, some of the things r Reaching or hav some stuff behind it:

apparently flora’s original model was of an adult in the beta but they changed her to a kid n 4got to remove ulfr’s (tht 1 “p*do npc”) dialogue. also apparently as of a few days ago, his dialogue abt flora was removed, it seems? it took me 2 secs to look tht up bc i remembered smth was up w it. ppl rly dont do research huh.

the thing abt the voiceline where paimon n aether discuss if kaeya is lighter under his eyepatch n paimon says “what if ppl call him ‘pasty eye’!! tht’d a bad nickname” or w/e is just talking abt tanlines. they’re like “if kaeya has his eyepatch on 24/7 cuz we’ve never seen it taken off does tht mean he’d hav an embarassing tanline in the shape of an eyepatch lmao tht’d make ppl laugh at him” (see the 6th point down for extra on this)

kaeya being described as “exotic” was ANOTHER odd translation by m!hoyos english staff (of fucking course) n has been addressed here in this twt thread. they meant he looks like a foreigner, basically, which makes sense as khaenriah is a special place tht isnt too like, known abt within teyvat (they also described dainsleif’s clothes as odd, iirc) so his clothes r prob a bit odd/special-looking to mondstadtians n, to quote the twt thread “he’s the only dark-skinned chara in a german-based region-- he looks like a foreigner.” the word in the og CN used was a word tht could apply to any1, n has been used by CN ppl to also just refer to americans in general b4.

also iirc i’ve seen some ppl say it’s possible he could b south asian or smth? the webtoon n iirc a few others of his chibis portrays him as a bit darker but some other media of him just has him as a tan shade (see: his main art, bday art, kfc chibi, etc) so it’s like ??? is he black or darker asian or? there’s a possibility he’s just a Tanned Character, like the girl from nagatoro who isnt meant to be non-japanese she’s just tan from swim club but his webtoon/4koma appearances make tht seem like tht’s not Likely, but, at the same time, his main pose art n various other arts give off tht impression? like, it’s 50/50 w his art. in some he’s darker in some he’s just tanner. make of tht what u will.

there’s also the possibility tht diff artists (there r multiple who work on official gensh!n art) see him as different ethnicities hence the difference in skin shades. but idrk abt tht so tht’s just a possible speculation. i also cant remember all of his official arts n chibis so. yea.

but if he rly is just a “Tanned Character” tho then tht makes aether n paimons talk abt his eyepatch more reasonable bc it’d b the 1 area where he’d b Lighter due 2 no sunlight with which to tan it with.

[screenshot]” it’s the game’s Rly Fucking Weird Lighting System. the lighting gets rly bright a lot of the time n isnt the best lighting system ever but so long as ur in a place of decent lighting w a good angle the skin tones dont get fucked up as much. but certain angles rly can make skin lighter yes even for the already pale cast it makes their skin near fuckin paper white. dragonspine makes this worse by being light AND muting colors. some1′s already extracted the model’s data tho n shown tht xinyan’s model is the same skin color as her official art n there’s been other posted screenshots tht show she looks not as light in other areas of the world map n stuff. it’s Just The Lighting. this also goes for kaeya, n see the 4th point abt the whole debate abt his skin color bc he shows up lighter n darker in places idrk whats up w it.

while barbara’s fans r weird esp bc they’re mostly adults, idols all the time even irl have fanclubs n stuff. it’s just tht barbara has 2 constantly interact w them tht’s kinda iffy. but even arthur (is tht his name idrc) the megafan isnt like “huff huff i wanna touch barbara my idol my muse” he Does wanna try to do nice things for her bc hes a superfan but it *is* creepy n comes off tht way bc in his adoration of her he’s basically become a Stalker yikes. tht being said rabid fans is Typical, even if they r a bunch of adult guys. hell, a lot of idols in anime (tht arent Exclusively Idol Animes) hav the common gross stereotypical otaku fans who r usually adult guys who hav all their merch n shit. it’s a Trope. also the adult fans arent portrayed in a Good Light n every1 hates them in canon.

prompt: how about a scenario in which the reader enters a convenience store, late night, wearing super fancy clothes and ten works in this store and they talk and sparks fly and there's a little bit of angst but lots of fluff?

okay well so this request immediately made me think of that ten gif where he is wearing those pajama pants nd the black sweater

but that outfit comes in a lot later in this scenario so we'll skip it for now

okay so the setting is prom

nd the most popular boy in school asked you so you bought this super fancy dress and wore your nicest heals and jewelry

you even wore fake eyelashes like you wanted to look n i c e

bc you're not very popular in school and you thought your senior year would've gone unnoticed by everyone

but the cutest (*´꒳`*) boy in school asked YOU out and so ofc you accepted

but :(((

unfortunately :(((

said cute boy had only asked you out as a bet

and . . . it hurt

bc you had your insecurities but you thought that for once someone had just seen you for you and had fallen in love w you

anyway so when you find out (you had heard some girls whispering abt it in the stalls) you left as soon as you could

the popular dude had been your ride

you pull off your heels and walk over to the convenience store, smiling softly at the worker at the counter

he looked bored before you walked in, his chin resting on his palm

but when you came in he was all business like suddenly he was standing up straight w a charming smile

"hello i'm ten! let me know if you need any help!"

his eyes trail down your body and his eyebrows lift "oh! were you just at prom? did you have fun?"

you shook your head solemnly

"i went but . . . i didn't have much fun."

"oh" ten frowns before brightening up again "well you look pretty."

you feel a little flustered at his words, since he sounds so genuine

"um— i'm gonna buy noodles now,,,,,"

nd you probably scurry away from him as quick as you can bc you already feel humiliated

like the only thing left is to have a crush on the convenience store worker just bc he called you pretty

you snatch your favorite brand of noodles and go over to the lil station, pouring the boiling water into the bowl before heading back to the counter

you pay for the noodles, and when ten hands you back your change his fingers brush your palm and you're just

blushing aGAin

you plan to eat the noodles outside bc there's no way you're going to stay in the store

but ten kinda leans over and asks

"can i eat w you? my break is soon and since you’re the only customer . . . would it be okay?"

his cheeks are kinda pink as he asks, and his eyes are avoiding your gaze as he stares at a soda stain left on the counter

u rlly don't wanna say yes

bc you just want to be alone in your misery

but also ... he looks so nervous you rlly didn't have the heart to reject him

"sure. but let's eat outside."

suddenly he gets the bRiGhTeSt smile on his face!!!! and he's like just let me make some hot chocolate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you actually have no idea how lonely ten is

esp tonight bc he had to take a shift at the gas station while his school had prom

and of course he wanted to go bc prom is like the one time you can dance and no one makes fun of you for it

but his boss would not let him take his shift off so :(

and he doesn't think you know him bc the two of you are in completely different social groups

he is on the dance team and participates in musical theater

you are on the swim team and spend any other time in the library

ten knows you bc he thinks you're really cute :,,,,)

and he was going to ask you to prom

but

in the locker room after gym he overheard one of the popular boys talk abt bringing you and he knew he couldn't compete

so he never asked

fate must've intervened and brought you to him, so he took advantage of the situation and asked to eat with you

you're already eating when he arrives w his hot coco and a cup of noodles

it's an odd combination but you don't criticize it

"so, y/n, what brings you to my humble workplace?"

you narrow your eyes "you know me?"

"we go to the same school," ten answers, and he can see the obvious awkwardness in your eyes bc you genuinely don't recognize him "it's okay, we aren't friends or anything. i just know you bc you're on the swim team and my friend doyoung is the captain."

"ah! doyoung!" you say, thinking of your captain who always nags you to keep up your fitness regime. you wonder what he would say if he saw you with a sodium-packed cup of noodles

"he's annoying. nags too much."

ten laughs, and it's chirpy and bright and so wonderful that you find yourself leaning in to hear it more clearly

"he's always been like that," ten supplies, "he didn't even want mark or donghyuck to go to prom tonight bc he was afraid someone would spike the punch bowl"

"i think i saw that yuta kid pouring some tequila in it earlier."

the two of you compare nagging mom!doyoung stories before ten brings up the elephant in the room

"so why are you here, and not at prom?"

"oh. well I found out i was asked on a bet. something like who could bring the biggest loser as their prom date or something. i didn't stay around for the details."

ten is mad. you can't see it, bc he's rlly good at hiding his anger

but his jaw is clenched and his fists are going full arthur meme under the table

he just doesn't understand why someone would do that to anyone, let alone the person he liked the most in school

you don't even seem that bothered by it anymore, having gotten your noodles and disposed of your fake eyelashes and heels

(you save the eyelashes for another use tho obv those things are expensive)

and ten kinda has the urge to ask you to go to prom with him

it must have an hour left, and he could close up the store early (even if he would have to hear from his boss the next day)

but you could get the prom you wanted, and he could dance beside the prettiest girl in the room

"hey, y/n?"

you don't hear him, because a minivan is pulling into the parking lot, and you're already walking towards it. "I'll see you at school, ten! thanks for hanging out w me!"

"oh. no problem!" he gives you a wave and a halfhearted smile before turning around to clean everything up and return to his shift

he's very sad that he missed out on his opportunity w you

two weeks later, and you're cramming for final exams while simultaniously training for the last swim meet of the year

and you're v v busy

but also you just want a break

and doyoung has had the whole team on a no carb diet bc he wants everyone to have suburb energy burned by vegetables alone

and all you're craving are some spicy noodles from the convienice store

you also kind of want to see ten again

ever since prom night you've noticed him around school and your heart gives a lil stir every time he sends you a smile or tiny wave

bc he's so cute :(

and you can't believe you haven't noticed him before :/

but at least you know him now :)

so anyway you decide to visit the store he works at in the hopes of gaining enough energy to be able to finish studying for your finals

you also rlly want ten to be there bc you highkey want to ask him on a date

bc he’s rlly cute and he was so kind to you that he just makes your heart go zoooooOOOoOoOOOoommmmmMMMMmm

so you go completely dressed down compared to last time

like your hair isn't even brushed lololol

when you arrive,,, ten isn't there :(

instead it’s this old guy behind the counter and he kind of sneers at you before going back to watching the lq tv in the corner

although it sucks that ten isn't there, you go to the back to find the same instant noodles you found last time

and low and behold!!!!
