This is my mini little pitch post for "Mistakenly Saving the Villain" because ever since I've read it, it won't leave my mind and there's woefully little fan content for it. I think it might actually be my favorite webnovel now.
It is completely translated with a total of 120 chapters (translation link here) (novelupdates for full list of tags) ***extremely important to pls look at the trigger warnings and tags before reading***
It's a xianxia danmei novel about a terminally ill medical student, Song Qingshi, who transmigrates into the immortal cultivator who is master of the Medicine King's Valley. His system issued mission is "to rescue the gentle, kind and tragic protagonist shou of the novel 'The Exceptional Furnace'". Naturally, he instantly fails this task by saving the "wrong" person.
Overall, the story is about healing, so enter the story with caution, since the first half of the novel is very painful and at times quite hard to read with how heavy the subject matter is. That being said, I really admire how the author made healing a long process that can't be fixed by love alone.
Also, both the mc and the ml are veryyyyy devoted to each other, and without spoiling too much... you might think while reading that there's no way that mc can match the ml's intensity but he can ;)
I think I would recommend this story to people who enjoyed tian guan ci fu, since the past is also extremely important in misvil and the story takes place on a similarly large scale (if not larger).
I feel like this story works best when you don't have any spoilers, because the twists in this story really elevate it from being just your run of the mill transmigration story to something more like an epic. I'm still surprised that the author had an explanation that wrapped up every single loose thread while also adding a whole new layer to the novel.
Tumblr media
For an added incentive ;) read the novel so you understand why this is literally the main couple:

Finished reading Mistakenly saving the villain. I like the epicness of the story. The idea of fated lovers every lifetime and gods going down from heaven to live as mortals and facing trials and tribulations. But Alas I read too many xianxia novels so this wasn't a novelty to me anymore. I like Medicine research, treating patients and building medic school aspects. Haven't read a danmei that's so informative about this anywhere before. Anyway, I don't know why I wasn't that emotionally invested in the main characters' romance that much. I'm supposed to feel so much heartbreak for them, especially Yue Wuhuan who went thru a lot but I'm feeling kind of detachment from the story. Also Song Qingshi was such a good and nice all round person he has no flaws I can think of. Is this a bad thing? Lol idk.

I'm alive! Technically. I'm dying of stress, but fortunately my passionate desire to ignore real life has translated to a BURST of new reading, mostly cnovels that have been on my list for like. Two years. I'm back in this pit, apparently?
One non-cnovel: A Taste of Gold and Iron by Alexandra Rowland. It just came out last week, I am in LOVE with the anxiety writing and also both the leads, and it also just went down so smooth, I am about to go look up everything else this author has published.
Cnovel 1: Reborn With an Old Enemy on the Day of our Marriage. At the end of a decade+ long enemies to lovers arc, we tune in with our leads just as they decide to get married. On their way out of the country to do so, they reminisce about how they ruined each other's lives for so long, and should have just loved each other sooner. They fall asleep, wake up back in high school, and... do that! Very sweet, very funny, the relationship is a solid core of the story as they repair relationships with estranged family and get their friends aimed at better futures than the first time around. The stakes stay personal and intimate and it was so SOOTHING, and consistently just so funny
Cnovel 2: The Path of the Cannon Fodder's Counterattack. Kinda. Ehhhh. It was very good until the halfway point, but then the pacing got weird, it turned into a harem drama, and the emotional core was just JEALOUSY. But the early tension is fun, I just recommend peacing after the first sex scene. Two people transmigrated into the past - a boy and the girl he likes. She wants to be the emperor's consort. Their first life, after he gave everything to help her, she still poisoned him. The second time around, he is Done with her, he wants to see her struggle, but also he is undercover as a eunuch in the emperor's court, and is definitely.... not. And that's going to be an issue as the emperor takes an interest in him. The first half was fun, second half bummed me out, a lot like dreamer in the spring boudoir
Cnovel 3: Mistakenly Saving the Villain. I'm only 28/120 in so far, but having an INCREDIBLE time. A med student with ALS gets offered the chance to transmigrate into a xianxia doctor's body, and is instructed to save the protagonist from a terrible fate. He hasn't really read many of these novels and saves the wrong guy. Rather than saving an innocent white lotus from sex slavery, he saves a guy who's been stuck there for a decade. The crunch is DELICIOUS, the angst is very supported by the text, and I took notice of this because of the 'black belly' tag - it can be kind of hit or miss whether I like a book's take on it, but I'm so weak for stories where a character is soft for one (1) man, and a massive hazard to everyone else. And he deserves to do some murders. A lot of them. I support him. I haven't finished this yet, so I'm not sure how it ends, but it's very funny and intense and so refreshing as a dynamic (this is translated by chrysanthemum gardens, and their chapters aren't listed on NU these days, but just go to their site)

Welcome!
This is mostly a place for an assortment of various fandom interests, queer issues, and mental health topics, with a healthy mix of random thoughts thrown in. Bisexual in my late 20s and enjoy reading, writing, dance, and language - currently learning German and Korean! I do post about 18+ content as most of my fandoms are 18+ as well, so keep that in mind. Primary reading interests are sci-fi, fantasy, nonfiction science, and more recently danmei.
Everyone is welcome to comment on posts and send asks! I'm generally quite laid back and greatly enjoy positive discussion around canon meta analysis, canon divergence ideas, and sillier fanon stuff, including more controversial topics.
For those looking for a fellow fan, here's a (very non-exhaustive) list of my top current fandoms!
Sci-Fi/Fantasy
The Wheel of Time (books and TV series)

I'm always looking for book recommendations! I like historical fiction/ wuxia/xianxia/xuanhuan/transmigration novels, and romance with leads of any gender combination. I'm going to list some Chinese novels that I've read:
MDZS M/M
TGCF M/M
SVSS* M/M
2HA* M/M
Golden Stage M/M
The Fourteenth Year of Chenghua M/M
Lord Seventh/ Qi Ye M/M
Female General and Eldest Princess F/F
Clear and Muddy Loss of Love F/F
Matrilocal Marriage F/F
She Who Became the Sun (shhhh this one is traditional Western publishing but it's Chinese historical fiction and it's LGBT) F/F or F/X, M/M or M/X
The Beauty's Blade F/F
How to Survive as a Villain M/M, F/F
Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know M/M
Seasonal Chill | The Wrong Way to a Demon Sect Leader M/M
Mistakenly Saving the Villain M/M
Those Years in Quest of Honor Mine* M/M
Yuwu* M/M
*These novels include content such as physical and emotional abuse, sexual assault, and serious power imbalances in main characters' relationships. I'm more of the opinion that we should read and critically analyze for ourselves and hope that other readers are doing the same, but I don't recommend reading these books except with a more critical approach. I read them because I wanted to know if I was okay with people who liked them. I think there could be valuable discussions from these books but I don't always have faith in the authors' intentions. Something happening in fiction is not the same as something directly happening in reality, but the books themselves are real and fiction affects reality.
I'm willing to provide descriptions and content warnings for anyone interested in one of these books. I'm always open for recs if you liked a book in one of the genres on this list.

HI, DID I HEAR THAT I SUCCESFULLY MADE YOU INTERESTED IN MISVIL?! DID I HEAR THAT RIGHT???
HELL YEAH
*slaps cheeks* okayokayokayokayokay, I'm cool, I'm calming down.
okay, so, the short of this is that this modern medical student dies and transmigrates into this novel, and his given the medicine to save the helpless protagonist. Problem is, our protagonist has never touched a single fiction book in his life and has no idea WHAT novel he is in nor WHO he should save. So he picks the choice that seems most likely and decides to teach him medicine to treat their mental health. which is where the title of the story takes stage:
Misvil is short for "Mistakenly Saving the Villain".
I finished this novel a few months ago and I cannot express enough how good it is. One of my favorite danmei ever. The couple are so good and so in love, THEY ARE SO DEVOTED TO EACH OTHER, if Bingqiu and Hualian are your jam, I can guarantee you that you will love it.
I have to warn you, though: Among the story's many themes, one of the most prevalent ones is "recovery from sexual assault". The ML, the one the MC saves, was abused repeatly in different ways, the sexual one being the most common, and has a lot of trauma and trauma responses to it. If this is something that makes you uncomfortable or don't want to read, then I understand. I only read it myself after mentally preparing myself, so there's no pressure. But it's also important to note that such abuse doesn't exist between the main couple: our protagonist genuinely cares very much for the ML and does everything in his power to help the ML reach genuine happiness and recovery. Another reason I adore this novel is because how serious this theme is taken. Anyone else, would have taken it to add to the angst and make the ML more tragic, but the author wrote the themes so throughly and so well, that I have to applaud her.
Well, enough of me ranting, here's my offering!

hi hi ^_^ just wanted to ask what you would rate the books on your villain trinity list? i've only read scum villain so far and loved it!
Hello~
As they are in a trinity, all are a 10/10 for me 🤭
If some key points would be helpful:
All 3 are transmigration novels, but only SVSSS and Mistakenly saving the villain are Cultivation novels, How to survive as a villain is a historical one (but also about transmigrating into a book, but without a system, Mistakenly saving the villain has a system, but things happens *spoilers*).
Now, svsss is the easiest on drama, I can say (not that I don't find it sad at all at how some people talk about it), but I found the other 2 a little bit more sad and painful at some moments.
Mistakenly saving the villain has some serious points about prostitution and self-harm and other things related (so maybe TW for some people) but amazing plot twists till the end.
How to survive as a villain also could not be everyone's taste because miscommunication and misunderstanding are BIG TAGS on this story, more than half of it, and other tragic things happens, so if you don't like this it could be a hard read, but as I have read others novels with misunderstandings (and I'm not a fan) this one was one that really did it really well and didn't make me wanna stop reading, actually made me more engaged.
They both have interesting second characters, I didn't found them boring as in other novels, as for MC and ML all amazing top in my favorite, they are all different, but also could have some common points with Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe.
Hope this was helpful 😁

I'm posting this while ignoring my responsibilities, but you guys know that I started reading Mistakenly Saving the Villain, and everything was all right, and then people started dying???? (Well, not dying dying). And then the main couple stayed away from each other for THREE THOUSAND YEARS??????? And Song Qingshi has amnesia, and, oh, I don't know how this is going to be deal with.

Hi, hamliet....First of all, sorry if I'm wrong, but if I'm not wrong, a few weeks ago, you said that at that time you were reading, Mistakenly Saving the Villain...I just saw this title now on my recs list...Can I ask your opinion on it?
On another note, love that most of your predictions about BNHA become canon....Love reading your metas, hamliet.....
Hi! Yes, I've read Mistakenly Saving the Villain! It has some of my favorite tropes, and I quite liked both the characters and the premise. The main couple has a fun dynamic, and the characters are unique, with neither quite fitting the mold of the character archetype they seem to be.
I think the writer could have gone much, much deeper than she did with the characters and themes (there was a lot of telling rather than showing). Compared to MXTX or Meatbun, or QJJ's author, the story was not necessarily as sophisticated? But that isn't to say it's poor; it's not, and it has some really beautiful and deep moments. It just could have been even better.
But yeah. I would recommend it regardless; the main couple are so interesting both by themselves and together that it was definitely worth it.
