"Holy Childhood Trauma, Batman!"

Okay, let's get into it. *spoilers ahead*
X-Men '97: Episode 5 - Remember It
So without boring everyone with yet another recap as every nerd fandom outlet has that covered, I want to highlight all the things that really impacted me with this episode.
The animation team, storyboard artists, and directing for this episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love how this series has captured the essence and style of the original 90s series, but has amped up the actions sequences to an 11, 12, 13, or 20! It's been a hot minute since I saw the original series, but I just don't recall many truly badass anime-esque action sequences from the OG series. And while X-Men has always been more of a socio-political and interpersonal drama, it's always cool to see your favorite characters use their powers in unique ways and this was Gambit's episode. I also love the addition of tears in many of the faces of characters during key moments. It's a minor thing, but emphasizing them just shows the gravity of the emotions the characters are facing. Also, special mention to episode 1 as well with Cyclops' intro and the ending battle in the sentinel graveyard. This series is what we all wanted back in the 90s and honestly, I'd be fine if comic book adaptations were more in animation form than live-action. CGI and VFX can be cool, but having characters do insane, gravity defying things like in this episode without looking janky is so awesome.
The usage and variation of the X-Men theme.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In both these scenes (above) the X-Men theme is played, but in vary different ways and I love when a score or soundtrack can enhance the mood of a scene or just help tell a story or convey a mood/emotion. In the first, we see Gambit and Rogue heading into battle and the score is slowed down and just has this serious tone to it. We're not having fun. This is war and we've got our game faces on. The second is the traditional theme and fits the tone as Gambit is just showing off and being a badass. IDK. I'm not a student of music, but I still love this stuff and how even the same music can be varied to convey different moods.
The impact and stakes.
Without getting too political (even though X-Men is all about politics and social issues), it was hard to not feel an extra impact by this episode's destruction of Genosha given the events taking place overseas in Palestine (as well as so many other countries that don't get as much news coverage). Again, trying to keep this to X-Men, but seeing the mass loss of innocent life (even in a cartoon) in such a quick and brutal way just sent my mind there and it was hard to not tear up thinking about the real loss of innocent life in our world (but without superheroes to intervene). Not to mention, I was already prepared for the loss of Gambit thanks to being on the internet and not watching new content the second it drops.
Honestly, this episode felt like an epic finale given the gut punch of emotions, the action, and the destruction. I know there are many theories that this could/will be reversed or altered via time travel, especially with the presence of the Watcher and Cable's attempt to warn his mother, Madelyne Pryor, but narratively I hope we sit with the weight of what happened in this episode. Selfishly, I want it fixed yesterday but I know that if that were to happen it would minimize the stakes and take away from the emotional weight of this episode. Also, the X-women are going through it this season. First, Storm, then Jean, and now Rogue.
The Ending and Saying Goodbye
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, as mentioned above I had Gambit's death spoiled and while I hate that I still wasn't prepared. As I said, I was already dealing with emotions at seeing the destruction of Genosha, but when it came for Gambit's end I was falling down onto the ground even more. Add in the rest of the X-Men at home, only able to watch from TV, devasted and powerless, and then Rogue's emotional (Death of Superman-style) goodbye as the episode faded to black... I still can't watch this scene or think about it without getting emotional all over again.
That said, to all the kids who thought I was lame for picking to play as Gambit on the playground instead of then fan-favorite Wolverine like everyone else, this episode and his epic goodbye was just amazing. I think anyone wanting to do Gambit justice in a film or solo movie/series should watch this episode and take notes. While most of us hope to die peacefully in our sleep at a ripe old age, I think going out like a total badass hero is a close second and Gambit achieved that. I'm sure it'll get fixed eventually, but I think Genosha (when they rebuild) should have the Magneto and Xavier statues back up, but also have a giant one of Gambit as well.
And speaking of Magneto, having him have flashes of his childhood and embracing the Morlocks (especially Leech) at the end was just more piled on emotional damage... and apparently this is just the tip of the iceberg for this season according to the writer/showrunner. I guess the writers know their audience is probably mostly 80s and 90s kids who grew up with Bambi, Land Before Time, NeverEnding Story, Gremlins, and all the other emotionally damaging "kid" content we were exposed to back in the day. Do I need this level of trauma or PTSD as an adult? No. But I'll keep watching.

can we get some author lore maybe!!!!!
Haha! I'm sorry to say I'm rather a boring person.
I'm just a Cambodian-Canadian in my twenties. I'm a visual artist first before Im any sort of writer and programer haha! I go by Lili because Lilies are my favourite flowers (and my birth month flower), but Becca is cool too. 👍
Read lots of manga and watched lots of anime growing up and played a LOT of jrps, I still do partake when I have free time. Personal favourites are FFX/FFIX, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Triangle Strategy and Vanillaware's entire library ( Go play 13 sentinels if you ever see it on sale, the story is amazing!!) . I mostly play Stardew Valley, Genshin, Star Rail and Animal Crossing these days.
I got into the IFs when I injured my drawing hand (the wrist specifically) for 2 months and was going through a rough patch because of it. Back then TSR was going to be a webtoon and the premise/cast was pretty different. I got really frustrated with my circumstances (and how long it takes to make a webtoon jfc) and IFs came a right time for me to still be creative without straining myself too hard. And now we're here! Haha
Aside from that I mostly listen to K-pop (lots and lots of k-pop) on the side while I'm working. I'm a big Block B fan 🐝, but I still listen to a lot of the big groups that are active rn. I'm particularly excited for all the boy groups that came out from Boys Planet. :)

@callmearcturus sent an ask about 13 sentinels and tumblr is functional so you apparently can't edit posts with asks in them on the mobile app. so the ask disappeared lmao. functioning website!
Anyway WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU PLAY 13 SENTINELS: AEGIS RIM:
after the initial intro/prologue which is all kind of railroaded, there's three modes in the game: remembrance (vn style play), destruction (RTS mode), and analysis (dictionary/encyclopedia/event timeline). all three modes are relevant and contain important information. highly recommend checking analysis regularly -- often it will clarify something in a scene or battle that might have been confusing before. in addition some remembrance or destruction chapters will be locked to analysis progression. ideally when you're done with the game you will have 100% in all modes
for destruction mode, pick either easy or hard mode depending on what you want. normal is still pretty easy but makes it kind of annoying to do the rts levels, which are nothing to write home about. in addition don't put off destruction too much. the currency for analysis entries is earned in it, and sometimes progression in character stories will be locked until you clear a certain level. I would try to do a couple levels between remembrance chapters as you feel like it to keep them rolling and avoid having to do 5-10 levels at a time because, again, not that enjoyable. playing more than 3 at a time feels bad to me personally.
one last note for destruction that the game won't tell you: each character has a couple of skills that, when enhanced to +4, will unlock buffed/better versions of the skill. what skills depend on the character, the type of sentinel they have, personal skills, etc. the game doesn't tell you this because it was added for the switch version and patched in later for the others.
there's no right or wrong order to do things! follow a character's story as far as you can if you like them, or split between everybody, it's up to you. there are some stories that are intended to be done later but it will be very clear which because of their unlock conditions. your experience with the game will be pretty unique as a result because of this -- the reveals you'll get or the information you'll receive depend a lot on the order you do things in. this is why it's so hard to talk about this game -- it's difficult to explain what part you're spoiling.
the dub in this game is actually quite good if you were wondering
there's post game endless rts maps if you are one of the few, the proud, the people who enjoy the rts play
go in knowing as little as possible and enjoy becoming the sort of person who makes a pin and string conspiracy board. I'm not sure I've ever played anything quite like it!

fic writer meme
1. how many works do you have on ao3? 112. And thank god that doesn't include the REAL old stuff.
2. what's your total ao3 wordcount? 552,904 ...that's...both more and less than I was expecting
3. what fandoms do you write for?
...a...lot. Most recently? MDZS/SVSSS, Trigun (er, sorry for the weird stuff), and 13 Sentinels (PLAY 13 SENTINELS). Long term oldies but goodies? Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, Overwatch, Supergiant games, Evangelion
4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Recovery (SVSS, Qijiu --woah, that one pulled ahead in the last few months) Husband x Husband (Hunter x Hunter -- I did this as a yuletide treat to make up for defaulting one year and it's the gift that keeps giving) Minor Delays (SVSS, Qijiu -- wait really?) The Way Back Home (SVSS, Qijiu -- ....Qijiu nation represent. This one doesn't surprise me though, Chira did an amazing comic for it) Hold the Baby (MDZS -- okay this one was just where I was dumping the old twitter threads of a VERY specific Xiyao fix-it AU but you know what, thanks everyone)
5. do you respond to comments?
I try to. If I don't succeed it's often because life kicked my ass.
6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Probably On Your Six (Reaper & Soldier 76, Overwatch)
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
This is hard mostly because all of my fic tends to be some kind of fix-it in some way to give someone an obscenely happy ending. If you had to have me narrow it down based on what my most blatant fix-it to some miserable canon character ending was? I'd go with either Happiness Exists (As Long As You Believe in the Possibility) (Qijiu again!), and the Recovery-verse as a whole, or maybe Abstraction White Rose (Revolutionary Girl Utena), because by god I needed Utena and Anthy to kiss and I MADE THEM DO THAT, A LOT.
8. do you get hate on fics?
Xiyao troll hit me once or twice and I got a few cranky dudebros who got mad at me for my Eva fic on a message board once, but nothing all that bad if I'm honest.
9. do you write smut?
...well, I've tried but the plot gets in the way.
10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you have written?
The first that come to mind are the MDZS/TGCF crossovers, but those are the same authors so I don't know that that counts. I DID write a very silly How The Grinch Stole Christmas/Nightmare Before Christmas short once upon an internet. It has since been lost to the great yawning of time and collapse of several social media platforms.
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
Someone once scraped the awful Naruto fic I wrote when I was like 15 and changed the names to make it a Samurai Champloo fic which, um. Why? But that was pretty damn funny in hindsight.
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! In Russian, Chinese, and French. And I love every time it happens.
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
My dayjob these days is cowriting with people. But on the fanfic side -- well, in short, yes. With the usual suspect (that would be Chira) and with my wife, who has once or twice dictated an entire story outline to me which I write in a day.
14. what's your all time favorite ship? Internet, I am old and you cannot expect me to pick one. Utena/Anthy maybe?
15. what is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I still need to do the last story for the A Troublesome Charge series which I SWEAR will happen it's just I had a literal baby.
16. what are your writing strengths?
Character voice. I love character voice and I am told I am good at it.
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
Smut.
18. thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics?
To be honest if I don't know it I don't try. But I like bilingual writing when it's done well (see also: Everything, Everywhere, All At Once) -- but when it comes to fangirl Japanese or Chinese, I tend to leave that to the experts.
19. first fandom you wrote for?
mumblesBeastWars and thank god that was on a platform that crashed and burned. The Beast Wars fic I wrote for Yuletide was way better.
20. favorite fic you have written?
On Your Six, despite how I feel about Overwatch nowadays, I feel was probably one of the punchiest stories I've ever written. I would have absolutely used this story to audition to write for Blizzard's tie-in novellas if Blizzard hadn't...well, read the news on what happened at Blizzard.
The other one I'd probably say is Ghost Roads in my Troublesome Charge series (MDZS). I just feel like I nailed all the multiple plotlines and characters involved in that one and I'm super proud of it. I'm not tagging anyone because I have anxiety about this kind of thing, but please feel free to do this meme yourself if it crosses your dash!

Any tragic visual novels you reccomed?
im prob not the best person 2 ask since my visual novel experience isn't as wide as others (I'm a big uchikoshi fan, but there's few I've played outside of that!) I've been playing Little Goody Two Shoes which isnt exactly a VN in full more an rpg but I love it a lot. I've also enjoyed Aviary Attorney which might serve that itch a bit. It's a fun gem.
Obviously the AISTF games but if u follow me you probably already know. I've been meaning to play The House of Fata Morgana since its widely recommended to me but I haven't gotten the chance yet! Same with 13 Sentinels. I got a lot I have to still play lol.

btw i had a few asks about "hey wat u gonna play next" and that's still a ways off but here are my thoughts
MegaTen Options:
Digital Devil Saga (post-apocalyptic cyberpunk hinduism, okay)
Shin Megami Tensei IV (I played about 25 hours of it, loved it, then dropped it, am still interested)
SMT Strange Journey Redux (for the Vibe)
Persona 2 Duology (I have played a bit and I don't think it'll make a good liveblog is my problem, will prob play it on my own)
SMT Soul Hackers (supposed to be one of the more fun ones)
SMT III Nocturne (it's supposed to be the best one)
Non-Atlus Options:
AI: The Somnium Files (Fucking Weirdass Shit from the writer of The Nonary Games, so it should be fun but might be gruesome)
The Caligula Effect 2 (apparently 1 is trash but 2 hits some of the Persona vibes)
Yakuza Kiwami (like Persona 2 idk if it makes a good liveblog. i bet Like A Dragon does tho)
a Danganronpa? I know nothing about these actually, i couldn't tell you anything about any of them with a gun to my head
Dramatical Murder
13 Sentinels (is this on fucking PC yet, what the fuck is taking so goddamn long, THIS IS THE ONE IF IT WOULD JUST COME TO FUCKING PC) (I might literally try running it in Yuzu)
i have considered just left-turning into otome/datesim games but i have such lofty standards for writing quality bc i'm a fucking snob so idk what to even try. i still wish I didn't hate the art style of Ladykiller In A Bind.
speaking of the Nonary Games, maybe I should restart Virtue's Last Reward, that game was fucking BATSHIT
what makes a good liveblog i think:
character-driven
dense and/or weird story
gameplay-to-story ratio is weighted towards story
i would say romanceable characters but of the three games i played i only romanced someone in one of them lol i'm stubborn
i really like the Persona/Bioware trope where you can work on relationships with specific characters
recs welcome

hogan's heroes fics recs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i can!
There are four long fanfictions that I consider the best. Two are gen, two are shippy.
gen:
The Master Manipulator by Guildsister Rated: T - Drama/Humor - Chapters: 28, Words: 143,921
Tinker to Evers to Chance is the play, Hogan said once to Klink. But who in the series are Tinker, Evers, and Chance? Who is the master manipulator of them all?
recommended because: outstanding drama, storytelling and crafting of the complicated relationship between Klink and Hogan as unlikely brothers in arms, fabulous Hogan backstory
Theatre of War by Eva M. Seifert (alternative link to ff.net) Rated: T - Drama - A Four Act series, words: around 280k in total. there are originally going to be six parts apparently, but the fifth is still in the works, so I'm calling it four complete parts.
November 1944 - the war finally impacts on Stalag 13 with new prisoners, budget cuts and tragedy. The fun and games of the earlier years have ended, forcing everyone, especially Hogan and Klink, to reevaluate their relationships.
recommended because: a fic that has been around since the 90's, again outstanding character work and believable building of unlikely comradery and friendship between Hogan and Klink with the twist that Klink is also a spy.
Slash: Men of Honor - Starflight1701 Rated: E - Drama/Romance - Chapters: 110, Words: 864,278
When Hochstetter arrests Hogan, Klink is forced to outgrow himself. With the war reaching its peak at the beginning of 1945, and Hogan facing torture and death, Klink knows he has to become the ‘Iron Eagle’ again if he wants to save himself and the man he secretly has fallen for since the day they met. In the darkest times of the war, the only light of hope is the two men's sense of honor - and the developing love both had never thought to find in each other' arms. Slightly AU.
recommended because: filled with an impressive amount of historical background information, very dramatic and dark, believable development of their relationship from enemies to friends to lovers
Blindspots - Macx Rated: M - Drama/Romance/Fantasy, Chapters: 29, Words: 90,685
This is how it is: Hogan and his men are the devious operatives, working underneath Klink's nose. Sabotage, thefts and whatever else London orders. Klink is the inept POW camp commander with a perfect non-escape record they can manipulate to work in their favor. Perfect cover. No one ever expected anything to change. Especially not in the way it did. With a bang, not a whimper. With a revelation that changes everything. Especially for a special operations military Sentinel trained to work alone. Someone who thought he had everything under control, who knew the players in this game they were playing. Fact is: he didn't. When things go extremely sideways for Hogan because he makes a big mistake in front of a Gestapo Sentinel, the help he receives comes from the last place he expected. It turns his world upside down and inside out. They just might not survive it.
recommended because: really fun sentiel and guide AU (which i knew nothing about prior to reading this), fantasy elements worked into the historical background, Hogan and Klink as two lone wolfs who have kept to themselves for different reasons have found their match in each other and could become stronger than ever if they only let each other in

Shutters I'm at a crossroads for what to play next. Which do you recommend I start with: Mahoutsukai remake, MGS: Revengeance, or Hi-Fi Rush (I have finished the second boss). Honorable mention: 13 Sentinels.
MGR rising is like 4 hours long so if you're short on time but also want the wildest afternoon a video game can give you, I'd pick that first
Mahoyo if you want to relax and read
13 Sentinels if you want to read but not relax (you have to play through 11 intersecting mini routes where events are not in chronological order lol lmao)
Hi-Fi Rush if you'd still like action but want something less intense than MGR, also just a delightful package all-around.

I've decided to add 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim to my list of All-Time Favorite Games. Despite its flaws, I'm still thinking about it almost a year later and wishing I could play it again fresh.

Tp + glitter bombs
This will be fun. But first I want to apologize for answering this ask late. Anyway, onto the chaos.
If I was in Transformers Animated Part 13: The Elite Guard's "Visit"
(This takes place before Ultra Magnus gets his aft kicked by a twig)
Sentinel Prime: Sir. I don't want to seem rude but why are we checking up on Optimus on his crew?
Ultra Magnus: Because of recent events I have decided that seeing how Optimus and his crew are doing is important if they want to continue their duties on Earth.
Sentinel Prime: I just hope we wrap things up before Cat can do anything.
Jazz: Aw come on SP. Cat's fun and you have to admit they have been more than helpful to us.
Sentinel Prime: Helpful to you maybe. All they have done is cause trouble.
As the ship landed Sentinel was more than cautious in exiting the ship.
Jazz: Sentinel. Cat's not going to pull anything this early.
Sentinel: Yeah? Well, why don't you tell that to the deca-cycle it took just to wash out all that glitter from their last prank. I swear I can still see some specks around the ship.
Me: Yo!
Sentinel: Speak of the devil.
Optimus: Ultra Magnus. What brings you here sir?
Ultra Magus: I have come to see how you and your crew are doing, given recent events.
Optimus: Oh. That is very compassionate of you sir. Um. Cat? If you are up for it can you accompany Jazz and Sentinel on patrol?
Me: Sure.
Sentinel Prime: What!? Sir. I think we are better off staying here.
Ultra Magnus: I think you and Jazz going on patrol is a good idea. It can give me time to talk to Optimus alone.
Sentinel Prime: Yes sir.
Jazz: Yes! Come on Cat.
Me: Ok. Let me grab my bag real quick. And I call riding with Sentinel!
Sentinel Prime: FRAG!
*Later on patrol*
Jazz: Cat. Why do you want to ride with Sentinel?
Me: Well because I have realized that myself and Sentinel don't have the best of relationships.
Sentinel Prime: Got that right.
Me: But I am hoping that this patrol can help us grow closer as friends.
Sentinel Prime: If that day comes I'll eat my elite guard wings.
Me: Anyway. You remember the Headmaster guy right?
Sentinel Prime: Umm. I have never heard of him.
Jazz: Oh. I remember. Prowl told me that he stole Bulkhead's body. Why bring up him?
Me: Because I happen to know where he is staying. He's staying in a nice house thanks to Powell and I was wondering if you want to help me play a little prank on him.
Jazz: Oh? What do you have in mind?
Me: Oh. You'll see.
When we got there I had pulled out a few rolls of toilet paper and a few round grey balls.
Sentinel Prime: What are we going to do with those?
Me: Well, we are going to cover his house in toilet paper and place a few of these around the outside of his house.
Jazz: What will they do?
Me: Sentinel? Do you remember my last prank?
Sentinel: Yeah?
Me: These babies explode in a glittery mess.
Sentinel: I want to place them.
Me: Sure. You show me where and I place them.
With there help we got everything done pretty quick and were out of there before anyone had taken videos. Plus when we got back we had the joy of seeing the Headmaster freak out.
Sentinel Prime: Play it again!
Me: How many times have we seen this video.
Sentinel Prime: Don't know and don't care.
Jazz: You two seem like you are becoming good friends.
*Jazz then hands him a separate pair of elite guard wings.*
Jazz: Start eating.
Sentinel Prime: Hey. I just enjoy seeing that human guy freak out there is no way I'll ever call Cat my friend. Now, I will see you later. Though send me a copy of that video ok?
Me: You got it.
*Sentinel then walks off and back to the ship.*
Me: He'll come around.
Jazz: Yeah. I'm sure he will.
Ultra Magnus had finished up by then and with that, they had to go back to Cybertron. Though not before I got one last prank in.
Sentinel Prime: OH COME ON!!
Jazz sped to Sentinel's quarters to see that Sentinel had found his desk to be covered in sticky notes that formed his chin. Jazz promptly started laughing his aft off. How Cat managed to do it they never found out but by then they had already left Earth's orbit so there was nothing he could do.

Ranking Every Halo Infinite Weapon
Based on how much I like them. FIRST CATEGORY: WEAPONS THAT ARE BAD AND BORING 22) THE FUCKING SIDEKICK
Tumblr media
The only weapon in this category. An utter failure. Embarrassing. Tactical Sidekicks is like playing laser tag but the lasers do not work. It is also part of the base weapon kit in quickplay and quickplay is boring. SECOND CATEGORY: WEAPONS THAT ARE GOOD BUT ARE BORING!!!! 21) Battle Rifle
Tumblr media
If this was about tactical slayer only (the best mode) this weapon is perfectly fine. Decent, maybe. Every other mode it is the most boring accuracy weapon. It brings me no joy. 20) Rocket Launcher
Tumblr media
It is just kinda boring. Nothing exciting about it. You look at someone and they die instantly. No thrill of the hunt. Would be fun in any rocket launcher only mode but otherwise no. Bad. Put that shit away! 19) Gravity Hammer
Tumblr media
Energy sword but worse. Fun to kill more than one person at once but it is just sorta whatever most of the time. Fiesta weapon only. 18) Assault Rifle
Tumblr media
It sure is consistent. Do not care. Next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 17) Energy Sword
Tumblr media
It can be fun when you get a streak going but I do not want to be the one holding it. WEAPONS THAT ARE KINDA SHIT BUT THEY ARE REALLY FUNNY 16) Hydra
Tumblr media
I like the lock on thingy. It also kills banshees which is good because I hate seeing those flying FUCKS. Kinda funny 15) Pulse Carbine
Tumblr media
Honestly it is a bit more usable and I think that is a bit of a detriment to its funny factor sadly. I still enjoy using it to kill people though. 14) Plasma Pistol
Tumblr media
I like holding the shot and the funny pew pew noises it makes. Satisfying weapon. 13) Commando Rifle
Tumblr media
I'm surprised too tbh. It is a horrible weapon, beyond worthless. Wretched, Foul, Vile, Etc. But honestly? it is kinda funny and a bit satisfying to get a kill with. 12) Bull Dog
Tumblr media
Yeah it's alright. It's fine. 11) Disruptor
Tumblr media
I love this thing so much. Almost the most satisfying weapon fr. Love you. If this weapon ever becomes marginally good it will shoot up to like second. WEAPONS THAT ARE GOOD AND ALSO PRETTY FUNNY 10) Cinder Shot
Tumblr media
It is a rocket launcher but cooler and kinda based. I approve. 9) Heatwave
Tumblr media
It is like if they made a shotgun cool. Impossible. 8) Stalker Rifle
Tumblr media
Funny kool-aid sniper. 7) Needler
Tumblr media
Very satisfying. Everybody already knows this weapon is good though. 6) Skewer
Tumblr media
I think it is funny that this is the sniper the brutes could come up with. Good job guys. 5) Sniper
Tumblr media
Sniper 4) Mangler
Tumblr media
I am forever pissed about the nerfs they gave it. 343 makes the best weapons in the series and then nerf them into oblivion. Get real. Still fun tho. Tactical Mangler was one of the best modes in the game. 3) Sentinel Beam
Tumblr media
Bsshrhrshshshhhrhssshhh 2) Ravager
Tumblr media
It has a cool fire blast attack and it shoots globs at people idk what more you could want 1) SHOCK RIFLE!!!
Tumblr media
I believe this weapon is the best weapon in any game ever sorry. If you disagree I am telling my mom on you.

Thanks for the tag @healen 🥺💕 just a little "9 people you'd like to get to know better" thingy, except I'm not gonna really tag 9 people. If you're reading this and want to play along? Consider yourself tagged!!
3 Ships.
I'm still in keinatsu(+BJ) ship hell a la 13 Sentinels, so that's fantastic. Silas/f!Corrin from Fire Emblem Fates are also consuming my life. And I'm still rotating Ryza/Bos from Atelier Ryza in my brain.
First ship ever.
EVER?????? Unknowingly, probably Rei/Minako from Sailor Moon. I just thought they were both neat and should stand together and was completely oblivious to shipping BECAUSE I WAS SEVEN YEARS OLD. Knowingly, very likely Celes/Setzer. Bitty!me was very convinced they were going to be a canon couple with how some things played out and I was devastated when that wasn't the case, even more so when I went to online forums and FFN and realized I was in the minority lolsob.
Last song.
My bf bought the Risk of Rain remaster (Risk of Rain Returns) and I forgot how much I loved that game and the soundtrack, so I've been vibing with that when he's not playing it lol
Currently reading.
I just finished Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, which I highly recommend (it took me a while to get into, but once the characters get out of college, it's solid). So I'm in a book lull and need to figure out what to read next. For manga, I'm actively keeping up with My Dress-Up Darling. I was going through Beastars and... got insanely bored during a particular plot point, but I need to pick it back up, bc I was enjoying it.
Currently watching.
Pluto is the one my bf and I are actively watching (I say this and we've only watched one episode, but in our defense, the first fucking episode is like as long as a damn movie). Also need to get back into watching the One Piece live action show bc I was enjoying it. I'm also genuinely terrible at watching shows, especially if a) it's not released over time and b) the episodes are longer than 25 minutes 😭
Currently consuming.
Coffee ☕ it's a medium roast with vanilla-flavored cream.
Currently craving.
Nothing atm. At least not food related. Warmer weather, maybe? Definitely missing the longer, sunnier days 😔

One of the most consistent things I've seen people say about 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is that the RTS sections are the weakest part of the game. They're wrong. It's actually the romantic relationships between certain characters.
Overall it's a great game. I was a little skeptical of all the comments saying it's not just a good story for a video game but a good sci-fi story regardless of medium, but they were right.
It manages to tell a surprisingly complex story with a huge cast (13 POV characters but also a whole bunch of secondary ones) and just as many individual narrative threads in a non-linear way while somehow making each character distinct and interesting and eventually bringing everything together fairly neatly in the end (even if there were a couple aspects of the ending I wasn't 100% on board with, but it worked well enough for me overall).
The pacing is actually pretty great too. Each chapter of each of the different storylines is just long enough to give you enough new information or character development to keep you engaged but small enough that they work as bite sized chunks my ADHD is totally fine with, and even though you have a pretty decent amount of freedom over what order to do a lot of things in the gradual reveal of what's really going on builds really nicely, adding more twists and complications to the mystery in the first half and wrapping them up and tying them together in the latter half.
Also great? The presentation. I'm always into that kind of 2D hand painted art style, the music fits well, and the voice acting is generally pretty great too. It presents a whole bunch of information in a nicely organized way in the UI too, making it a lot easier to keep track of who everyone is and what information you've gathered so far.
And getting back to my opening paragraph, the RTS segments are actually a lot of fun and work a lot better than I expected them to. It borrows a bunch of tower defense elements and is technically more RTwPS, which makes it kind of funny that I enjoyed it so much because 99% of the time I hate both real time with pause and tower defense.
The maps are generally short and chaotic (although you have as much time as you want to think while paused) so you can get through each of them quickly, and overall it's at most maybe 10% of the game, but I liked the way they broke things up and added some variety, and I appreciated the contrast between the slower pace and softer more detailed art of the main portion of the game with the hecticness and sharp artificiality of the battles. Also I'm impressed that toward the end they managed to have AI War numbers of units on screen on a handheld and still get good performance out of it.
So yeah, good stuff and worth checking out for anyone who thinks a deep and complex sci-fi mystery with compelling characters that's 90% VN/point and click adventure game and 10% real time strategy sounds remotely interesting.
Something could change in the next couple months, but as of now it's probably one of my three favorite things I've played this year along with Future Redeemed and Fire Emblem Engage (which I still haven't finished), probably this for narrative, Engage for gameplay, and FR overall for everything combined.

stray thoughts after finishing 13 sentinels
back to the mystery files. Why is the game seperating chihiro morimura from chihuro morimura (1 loop ago) and chihiro morimura (2 loops ago). Wait. Unless. I think i figure out what confused me, remember how i couldn't tell if nurse morimura was morimura -2 who died shifting ida -1 to the current loop because she has all her memories, or if she was morimura -1 who 426 izumi killed but who is the right age to reunite with ida on sumire bridge? Well if they both died and she had data saved to sector 0 maybe she was recreated... Which means there were SIX MORIMURAS: 2188, -2, -1, Iori, child who then got 2188's memories, and the morimura recreated from -2. But thats the only explanation that explains the inconsistencies and why the game files events in 3 separate categories when other characters like izumi -2 gets all of 426, fluffy, and shiba's scenes listed under one character. I'm going to look this up. Ok yeah nurse morimura was the ai of -2 morimura but why did she look 16 in the sumire bridge reunion? And not only that she acts like she's 16 thats what threw me off i wonder if when they wrote this scene they didnt know yet which morimura she was. Yeah and in that scene she doesn't recognize ida or know what a sentinel is and is just confused to be 16 years in the past. I still dont get this scene.
Grandma tamal got deleted!! That's why she didn't show up. Hmm so the 1944 tamao is considered the true one and the 1985 one was an AI which means if the compatible shifted before the kaiju attacks they would have also deleted the older ai selves (ex: natsuno in 2064 would have deleted older natsuno). 20 million years since humanity's extinction 2188 ryoko wrote the d-code. Ida spread dd-426 because he wanted the sentinels to fail and the world to be reset faster. "The nurturing of the 15 members started once the terraforming of the new planet was completed" 300+ loops have passed huh so they were stuck in the pods not killed and reborn each time that answers that question. I was wondering about the probes, so each probe can do this, rhen theoretically this entire story is playing out thousands of times across the universe.
There might have been 6 morimuras but -2 izumi juro was the one going by 426, eirika aiba/tamaobot, tomibot, shippo/fluffy, shiba kyuta, 6 names/identities. I went and looked it up and for the scene "Reunion" that was -2 Morimura's data that -2 Okino saved which was her 16 year old self. That still doesn't explain how current Morimura got -2 Morimura's memories though because she definitely acts like she has -2 Morimura's memories and sees them as her own memories instead of events that happened to someone else.
!3 Sentinels has good writing, it was consistently strong with no real low points. The strongest part of the game was probably the beginning right after the prologues as things start clicking together. A few places in the story clunked, but overall it was really well done, just a well made well written game.
I found the combat to be surprisingly fun. I've only dabbled in RTS games before so I came in pretty new to this style of game and ended up liking the combat. The game does a good job of easing new players in while gradually building up the difficulty and it has challenge maps for players that want to get deep into the combat.
My main complaint would be that there's too much romance, but that isn't the game's fault, I just generally don't like romance and am very picky. So sometimes I just wanted to skip past the romance and get back to the stuff I was interested in like the story. I felt some of the couples lacked chemistry, like they failed to sell me on the romance. Juro and Megumi happened so last minute after for the entire game Juro's feelings are ambiguous like him feeling the love Izumi Juro felt is only ever brought up in Megumi's last scene, and Megumi the entire game is in love with the erased Izumi Juro, so the romantic development between the two of them felt sudden. My biggest problem was probably with Yuki and Shu, it really just felt like he was harassing her the entire game, she showed like no interest. Like I get she has a tough personality but it came off as that old trope that as long as he's persistent enough the guy can get the girl. Which is such a shame because girlboss and her boytoy is such a fun dynamic but I don't like how it was done in this game. I found Iori's love at first sight plot rather cringe but it was funny having her entire story be about chasing him around the city while having no clue about the events happening.
Romance is central to the game however and I don't think it could ever be taken out. Romance is used by the game to create character foils between the characters and especially the various characters that are genetically identical. Both the Hijiyamas and Okinos both in 2188 and in the current loop fall in love with each other. The Morimura and Izumi of 2188 were a couple as were the Morimura and Izumi of 2 loops ago. Juro with both his new and old personality of the current loop however both come to love Yakushiji. While Iori falls for Ei. 2188 Ida manipulated Shinonome's infatuation for him just like how Ida of one loop ago uses current loop Ryoko's crush on him so that she's an obedient and convenient pawn. Ida himself meanwhile is primarily driven by his obsessive love towards the Kisaragi of the previous loop. The current loop Shu and Tomi both fall in love with other people however. The different romantic choices highlight how those characters are different from their other versions.
I probably would have disliked it just as much, but I do want to talk about how things could have turned out differently however as it is in line with the game's theme of alternate but equally viable possibilities. For example Juro could have fallen in love with neither Megumi nor Iori thus highlighting how he is different from every other previous version of Juro. Especially since both 2188 Izumi and the one from 2 loops ago view Megumi more as a daughter figure. Ei and Ryoko could have been written as a romantic instead of platonic and familial, which would have been interesting given how Ryoko spends a good chunk of the story convinced he is 426 because she has forgotten that she was the one that infected the sentinels with DD-426. Or otherwise it could have been Ryoko and Shu to highlight how different a person Shu is to Ida given how Ryoko expresses attraction to him. Or Iori could have fallen in love with Yuki which would have been very different from any of the Morimuras, or Renya who had a crush on Morimura. Really if the devs hadn't decided to make Yuki and Natsume genetically family, it could have been a childhood friends romance. Or there could have been something between Juro and Shu, they're friends despite juro being really weird between the memory manipulation and the Shiba but Shu sticks with him throughout, they're part of the weird dream club, and Juro's whole deal could have been the thing to break the tedium and boredom of Shu's life.
Tamao as a character really got the short end of the stick story wise. She had so much going on from being a compatible who is childhood friends with Keitaro and Takatoshi, to Tamao from one loop ago being turned into a Sentinel AI and then an android who was active in Sector 4 during the events of the game before getting body jacked by 426, and then there's Juro's grandma. Tamao of 1 loop ago is also responsible for creating Juro's new personality. There was so much going on with her but her role in the story ended up being very small so while she's referenced by the characters I think she only actually shows up for like 4 scenes.
One thing I really liked was how morally ambiguous the Morimuras were. Professor Morimura from 2188 was partly responsible for the nanomachine plague that wiped out humanity she also planned for her own resurrection where she would become the leader of the new humanity, and after her memories awaken in child Chihiro she plots to destroy the current loop to have a more advantageous start where she can control things better and to this end she kills the other Morimura for having an opposing agenda. Nurse Morimura herself does a number of dubious things like wiping the current loop's Izumi Juro, attempting to recreate the Izumi of 2 loops ago with him. She also attempts to take over Iori to gain compatibility. For the longest time it remains ambiguous what she is doing to Ryoko, whether she is actually trying to help her or to turn her into a puppet. Then there's Operation Aegis itself which would by cutting off Universal Control wipe out the 1.2 million AI residents of the city as well as dooming all the compatible to living the rest of their lives in the ruins of the city.
I liked a lot of the moral ambiguity in general, that for much of the game I was doubting the intentions of many of the characters from Renya, to Morimura, Ida, 426 as well as all the 2188 people involved in Project Arc. Izumi of 2 loops ago really is the definition of well intentioned extremist, I like how the audience is able to see him trial and erroring different solutions. First he tries bombing Shikishima to try and stop the technology being Deimos, then he tries killing all the compatible to stop D-code from sending the invasion signal, then he tries to sever D-code from the compatible which causes brain damage. Eventually he decides to modify the system and bring back the gamification in the simulation's code (exploiting 2188 Okino's sloppy coding the same way 2188 Shinonome did) allowing both Sentinels and Deimos to upgrade, and he does this by manipulating Megumi into shooting the compatible with a patch update to their nanomachine code.
The aesthetics of this game are superb the visuals and art direction are amazing and so is the soundtrack, it all just works so well together.
On a personal level I found Shinonome Ryoko to be annoying, like girl stop chasing the man who clearly cares nothing about you and is just using you. But I did find her story to be very interesting between the mental breakdowns, loss of identity, and how large a role she plays. Ryoko spends the entire story trying so hard and she usually just ends up making things worse, it's great! It's also interesting how most of the plot stuff she does happens in other character's routes, while in her own she's already largely forgotten everything already. I did enjoy watching her snap and shoot Ida dead.
I really liked Yuki which is probably part of why I was disappointed with her romance, she also just seems to attract girls which amuses me. She deserves to send more dudes to the hospital. She spend her entire story with so much pressure first with Ida threatening her only family, and then her dear friend Natsuno goes missing and she's being stalked by an imposter.
Megumi's story was my least favorite. The only part I really liked were the Fluffy/426 reveals at the end. gave her a magical girl story and then made it boring.
Miura's my favorite character, in all his iterations he's just trying so hard for others. He's earnest, curious, contemplative, and determined. I liked the parallels of how 2188 Miura liked history while 1944 Keitaro liked science fiction.
Nenji is surprisingly smart, it's funny when he and Hijiyama are in the same scene because between the two of them Nenji ends up being the smart one. his route gets the distinction of being the only actual time loop, kinda. it was trippy, i liked it although the timed events meant i messed up a lot.
Iori's most interesting for her contrasts and connections to the other 5 morimuras her own story is just her chasing a boy she has a crush on while having no idea what is going on, disappointing but also amusing fom a conceptual standpoint.
Tomi and Natsuno are both characters I like with stories I liked, charming. The reveals for both were well paced and exciting.
Juro does better than Iori because i found how many different parties are all trying to influence his mind interesting, everyone wants something from him from megumi who wants her boyfriend back, to morimura trying to turn him into 426 izumi, to 426 izumi himself who was the one that salvaged his mind. The one part I didn't like was the sudden romance with megumi where all of a sudden in the last scene of megumi's story.
Takatoshi was one of my favorite routes mostly because watching okino interact with him is one of the most entertaining parts of this game. Props to the game for 2188 hijiyama and okino being very explicitly lovers like there's no ambiguity there that the homophobes can latch on to and say they were just friends.
gouto's story was just 2188 morimura chihiro's story, it was good but it wasn't about him at all so he's the least developed character of the bunch.
I really like shu, his story was alright but i think it could have been better. part of this is that his route on its own isn't a complete story you only find out the deal with the mysteries like the 30km limit and inaba miyuki in other routes and the ending. while his kindness and generosity shows through on other stories, i think his own could have shown his ennui better. that he and ida are clones was a good aspect to his character i liked that twist.
while ei as a person is meh for me i did like both his story and his role in other character's stories, partly because of how different they are. His own story is a mystery as he tries to figure out what he was doing before which isn't helped by him having changed his mind mid way, lot of plotting and scheming by multiple parties which I love. Ei in other character stories plays a completely different role however as this is before he loses his memories and thus is a very active agent in the plots of sector 4. His romance with iori was boring but i can't say it was the worst or even in the bottom half. those two would have been more interesting not becoming a couple but i say that about most couples in this game.
For combat I liked the difficulty progression in that it starts off very forgiving for new players and then steadily ups the difficulty. I started out scared because i didn't have a lot of experience with real time strategy on casual but it was really easy so i went to normal but that was still easy so i went to intense and that was still pretty easy. and then the game got much harder, i could have beat the game on intense but by the final level combat was taking up so much time and i wasn't first time s-rank and getting side objectives about half the time and i wanted to focus on story so i went back to normal and breezed through. it took me so long to figure out 1st and 2nd gen sentinels so my main tactics involved the 3rd gen and some 4th gen, they got to level 25 first. i tried to balance exp gain and finished the game around 27-31. i good chunk of my tactics was railgun + missile rain as they were the best at crowd control and wow it got crowded on intense. only unlocked the super missile at the end and wow that thing is powerful. I had yuki span aoes to spot the areas the 3rd gens hadn't killed, amiguchi was a mix of offense and support, and gouto and yakishiji were interceptor bots. hijiyama was useless for so long because i didn't know how to use him but then i found his passives and had him emp spam the entire map to keep heat off the 3rd gen. i mostly had sekigahara anti air flare for half the game because i didn't know how to use him either. it took me a while to figure out how to deal with gladiators and that's how 2nd gen found their niche. then shinonome unlocked cyberattack.

i can't remember if i sent you some of these or not so have some (more??)
for the fallout oc questionnaire: 2, 3, 13, 26, 27, 36 for nora and al?
2: Which faction(s) did they join and which did they destroy? Why?
✪ Nora becomes the General of the Minutemen, and they are her main faction all throughout. She plays around with all of the others, but encounters some problems and either cuts ties herself or finds it hard to continue working with them for one reason or another.
✝ Alberta's main faction is the Brotherhood, from having joined during the events of Project Purity in 3. They don't really stick around with them though. Being a sentinel they can basically do whatever, and they like to travel, so their visits to the Citadel were sporadic at best and they haven't been involved in anything big with them. She doesn't really agree with the BoS overall, and think they are a bunch of bigotted bastards, but at the same time that's like... her family? Their loyalty to them is really confusing, even to them.
They are also part of the Abolistionists and by extention the Railroad, but aren't really a very active member of that either. They will help out when asked or if they find themselves suddenly in a RR situation, but mostly the RR leaves them alone because of the BoS connection and how hard they can be to reach covertly between all the travelling.
Won't get into who gets destroyed and who doesn't, for spoiler reasons. But in general there is a lot of fire and explosions and several deaths.
3: What is their S.P.E.C.I.A.L.?
I play really fast and loose with character abilities, and mostly ignore stats in favour of "they can do it because I said so", because it's more fun and freeing and I don't want such a small technicality interupting the story.
That said, when I pick out their SPECIAL stats for these things I still ignore the in-game starter and go instead by the companion median to give them 50 points each and just place them wherever it looks right. (Players do start lower, at 40, but players can also raise their stats over time, so I'm basically just skipping that and treating them like companion NPCs instead).
✪ Nora
S - 3 P - 9 E - 7 C - 10 I - 9 A - 6 L - 6
High mental stats, lower physical. Her int isn't very specialised, she isn't a fantasic scientist or mechanic or anything, but she can be a bit of a "jack of all trades, master of none" in that she can follow concepts and instructions, and learns new things fairly easily. She definitely values knowledge, and it certainly helps that she had a proper education pre-war.
✝ Alberta
S - 8 P - 7 E - 10 C - 4 I - 8 A - 9 L - 4
More mixed. Their int stat is very much specialised. Al knows a bit about science, including medicine and anatomy, but mechanics and engineering is more their passion. Their high strength it offset by them being pretty small, so they tend to rely more on their agility. They used to be able to just about survive nearly anything. Like a damn cockroach. That's catching up to them now though and they're a little more fragile in present day (the high endurance is the only reason they're even still kicking at all). They aren't very good with people generally.
13: What Wasteland threat do they fear the most? (ex. Deathclaws, super mutants, raiders)
✪ Nora: Feral ghouls. Not just because it's damn frightening to be chased down by poisonous zombies intent on tearing you apart and eating you alive, but because she imagines that if she'd been anywhere else that fateful day the bombs dropped then she might've become one of them. She's also learnt from personal experience that sometimes she might actually recognise the horribly scarred person below it all. She tries to kill them fast and not look too closely at their bodies and personal belongings.
✝ Alberta: People. Raiders, Enclave, Brotherhood, seemingly innocent settlers. Human, ghoul, mutant. Anyone. People are cunts to people. At least with animals they're usually just following instinct to survive. Raiders and mutants definitely make the top of the list though, just on the "way more likely to act like a bastard right off the bat than the others" factor.
26: How do they come off to others? What first impression do they usually make?
✪ Nora: In charge or helpful in some way. Even despite how lost she is at the start of the story, she's almost always projecting an image of control. Either playing nice and asking questions or taking complete charge of a situation to stay on top of it. The fact that most people meet her when she's going out of her way to assist them certainly helps too.
She has quite the running narrative in her head, weighing decisions and outcomes, but she tries not to let too much indecision show on her face and outwardly she can seem rather put together. It's a large part of what draws people into her and puts her in leading positions.
✝ Alberta: Independant. Not so much in a very muture way, but more like "I know what I want, gonna get it done and I don't need your help, and I won't be here too long" way. They're like a stray dog that you know knows how to take care of itself. And trying to help might get you bit anyway, so just toss some scraps out and mostly leave it alone.
27: Do they prefer to travel alone or with company? Who have they traveled with if any? Current companion if any?
✪ Nora: With company. Nora gets lonely rather easily, and the wasteland is a dangerous place to go it alone too, especially when your skillset is much more attuned to politics than roughing it.
Sometimes Nora just travels with one companion, but she could have any two or three, or even in some cases more, companions with her at any point. It depends on the job being done and what the companions desires at the time are. She almost always has Dogmeat with her though, to the point that her not bringing him on an adventure is noticably out of place.
✝ Alberta: Mixed but mostly alone. Al likes to have the freedom of travelling and answering to no one and worrying about nothing but themself, but it can get lonely. They have travelled with most of the Fo3 companions at one point or another, sometimes even in groups too, but they will start to feel cramped travelling in company and may begin to lash out if it drags on too long, until they are able to break away and get some alone time again.
Thankfully, most of their companions have their own lives going on anyway and aren't in a position to just follow Al around as they explore wherever their feet take them. Charon is their most common companion, if only because he also feels he has little better to do than similarly travel and feel the freedom of the road. Lucky for them both that his personality doesnt clash with Al too much. He knows when to reel them back and when to just leave them be and sort themself out, and doesn't rise to her bait often. He's just level headed enough to balance them out.
36: Their thoughts on power armour?
✪ Nora: Eh... Never really cared for it. Nate would get starry eyed and tell her all about the new models his squad was assigned, but she never caught the enthusiasm or was able to fully follow everything. She did appreciate that he liked it, and tried to endulge him by asking questions. Personally though, she didn't get into it. The first time she tried it, when rescuing Preston and the others from the museum, really let her know that it's not for her, too. She was so sore afterwards.
She simply doesn't have the strength required or desire to learn how to properly use power armour, and generally avoids using it herself. To the point that her first trip into the Glowing Sea is done wearing a biosuit because she can only imagine downsides to being so overencumbered and clunky.
✝ Alberta: Very cool. Al likes power armour, they think it's real neat. But they don't use it often because their small frame means extra work has to go into adjusting the internal frame and making the suit actually usable to them. They also aren't a fan of losing mobility for it. It's like, the biggest bummer to them of being so short.

12) A character you particularly like in the game you’re currently playing Hmm I wish I could pick someone from Baroque but I can't say I *know* the characters yet to really pick one I like...technically I'm still playing 13 Sentinels (been slouching on finishing it) so I'll have to go with Natsuno
13) Quick, name the first song from a game that comes to mind Schala's theme from chrono trigger has been on my mind lately a lot
23) A “Wow” moment of awe Always and forever going to be that moment in journey when you're sand sliding and the camera shifts towards the sunset and the mountain and the sand glitters and the music just breaths a little. It still takes my breath away no matter how many times I've seen it.... Fun fact! The shadows in that sequence were all hand painted and pixel perfect so it was crisp as because the actual shadow map was low res (insane)
