OC - Lark Penn
sometimes you impulsively make an oc at 2 am and then you keep turning them around in your head for the next few hours unable to sleep because theyre so skrunkly and suddenly its 6 am and you NEED to draw them. anyway this is my baby lark i love them very much
Tumblr media
pokemon oc if it wasnt obvious already dkfjlasdkjflasd but aaahhhhh theyre so baby aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
lark penn, they/them, 16 years old, from eterna city in sinnoh, so very tired. aspiring artist with a special love for sculpture. their parents are kinda busy 24/7 so they just kinda raised themselves (and they had really nice elderly neighbors who taught them how to cook and also how to do a mean right hook if anyone ever tried to hurt them).
more info under the cut if youre interested!
they wear loose, long sleeved clothing with less saturated colors, and almost always wear a scarf. when they were younger they believed the flowy ends could be wings. theyre emotionally and socially awkward (like me :D) and cant handle people being around them very well. they always put in earbuds with music when they go grocery shopping (also me afdbfasffhhfcgfbn)
they really really like flying types. they met ven the zubat in a cave somewhere while they were stumbling along looking for cool rocks. they didnt have any pokemon at that point so ven kind of maybe poisoned them a bit (there are a lot of humans that come through the ravaged path and a good percentage of them dont do anything good. flash bright lights, break parts of the walls, litter, etc etc) and lark was like. oh. that sure happened. and theyre like "hey mx. zubat? uh. do you know the way out? i get that you poisoned me out of a sense of self defense so ill see myself out but im kinda lost also i probably need medical help" and ven is like. bestie you fr right now and shows them out of the cave where they promptly collapse and ven kinda likes this human at this point so they go get help. long story short, woah its lark's first pokemon! theyre besties!
umbra the corviknight was brought to sinnoh as a rookidee by a rich galarian trainer on vacation. sinnoh is very much colder than galar (in my hc at least) and the baby bird's wings could not handle it. consequently her battling was severely hindered, so the entitled rich trainer shoved her off to someone else (who happened to be lark. they were just at the right pokemon center at the right time) and they were having none of it. then they realized umbra would be in a much better home if they accepted her. ven proceeded to leave the rich trainer with poison and a nasty bite on the ankle. umbra has been added to the party! she adapts to the colder climate gradually and with much care from lark
lark isnt a battler but ven definitely is. ven is a fast and bitey little menace who prefers staying unevolved because they love it when people underestimate a tiny zubat and then get obliterated. also they really like being small and sleeping in lark's scarf (and they are kinda scared to become a golbat. they saw a big one being a bully back in the cave and theyre scared evolution will make them meaner. it wont and they know it, but lark doesnt mind ven napping in their scarf for as long as they want to). umbra...umbra likes battling sometimes, but she doesnt like it when its too intense. reminds her of her old trainer. not good. she doesnt mind evolving- her evolution into corvisquire was out of something like fear that she wasnt good enough as a rookidee. lark figured that out, hugged her, and told her that no matter how strong she was theyd always love her. she evolved into corviknight with more love in her heart, and she loves being big enough to fly lark around and to curl around them as they sleep.
haha yup i am so normal about pokemon

i have come up with an extremely self indulgent au and i needed to write down all of these thoughts Somewhere. so what if the extra characters from other regions (ykno like. the battle tree characters) in alola were all fallers from universes where shit went horribly wrong! and in this specific universe something happened to everyones counterpart so none of them are recognized as whatever they are... because they Aren't That in this world.
so cynthia isnt recognized as yknow the fucking sinnoh champion. she doesnt remember shit from her world, she doesnt even remember galarian well enough to properly communicate at first. (she. hit her head real hard on top of faller amnesia lol) once she's physically recovered from being very aggressively thrown into this world tho she's. fine really. vaguely traumatized but overall having a great time in alola! ...when shes not suffering from the heat, anyway
and this is where i throw in faller! caitlin and grimsley too :-) ive always looked at grimsley in alola and thought. wow hes seen some shit. and i love caitlin and think adding her in here could be really funny so. theyre both here and from the same world. they have seen the horrors. caitlin decides to pretend like nothing bad happened and is literally just vibing. grimsley not so much.
oh colress is also a faller in this but i havent thought much about him yet.
wally has also seen the horrors. kukui adopts him along with lillie. (i think in this au wally wouldve shown up first?) wow kukui who let you have Two very nice but traumatized children.
im tryna decide what i wanna do with red and blue. would be kinda funny if i made them fallers as well. same with sina and dexio?????? idk.
i dont Really have an actual plot for this yet but it's prolly usum since that makes more sense than regular sun/moon.... my brain is slowly emptying the more i write so. uh. yeah teehee funny alola fallers au

Question from the ask game: Pokéblocks, Poké Puffs, Poffins, Poké Beans, Curry, or Sandwiches?
@yewwantstobattle
Hello! first ask ooo im delighted
So since I'm from Sinnoh, I'm really more familiar with poffins! However, I really want to try some proper Galarian curry, it always looks so good in photos!! Pokemon wise they generally prefer just eating the berries straight up haha, but sometimes I make berry tarts for special treats :D

i might’ve mentioned as much somewhere, can’t remember if i wrote it anywhere, but jotting this down anyway  :     it’s more common than not for people from a few other regions to have trouble pronouncing satoshi’s name, so rather than internally cringe every time they say it wrong he just tells them to call him “ash”.     it borrows enough from his name to not sound entirely different but is simple enough for anyone to say without trouble.

Hsmeywjwjs between all the newer gen pokemons ; which one(s) are your favorite?
Ah also im planning to buy some next year but i could only buy 1 soo do you have any recs?
If you're asking pokemon game I like (I'm thinking Gen 6 to Sinnoh remakes): my favorite has to be Ultra Sun/Moon The only thing I don't like of vanilla Sun/Moon vs. Ultra is that you kinda exchange the character development for Lillie (vanilla) and Hau (Ultra).... and I do like Hau a little bit more so fjkdj Lillie is still precious tho
If you mean which pokemon from recent gens are my favs (again, gen 6 to today): midnight lycanroc, delphox, espurr, toxapex, salandit, Type: Null & Silvally, Kommo-o, Tapu koko, Lunala, corviknoght, NICKIT & THIEVUL, eldegoss, galarian farfetch'd & sirfetch'd, dragapult... and of course hisuian zoroark!
jifjkld quite a lot of them aaaa I've had all of them in teams, except for the legends and espurr (and hisuian zoroark obvs), I think
I know Alola wasn't the fav of many, but that gen has a special place in my heart for some reason So I definitely recommend any of the Sun/Moon games! Be it normal Sun/Moon or USUM!
and, I mean, if ya wanna experience gen 3..... Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, Hoenn remakes are also my favs bc loooove Hoenn 👀

Adoption Application Recieved!
Name: Rowan Mackinnon
Age: 19
Region, city/route... or describe the climate you live in: Wedgehurt in Galar.
Home size: ground floor and first floor aswell as a garden and a large patch of land owned around our house. About 200 miles.
Other people or Pokémon in your home: In the house it is me and my partner. We live with a Munchlax, Galvantula, Zoura, and a Vulpix. I’m hoping to get them someone to play with.
Also Noibat occasionally goes in the house because he feels safest here.
How many hours are you away from home per week for school/work? I am in part time college which is 4-6hours two times a week and i work at the farm which is around the house anyway. My partner is a ranger and the land around us is classed as protected so they work nearby to the house and usually at home if others are around too.
Any allergies or aversions? Im allergic to galarian Meowths and I want to avoid Pokémon who don't live in Galar, including the Isle of Armour.
Tell me about yourself, and what your goals for you and your new Pokémon are, as well as anything else you think I should know.
I run a small wild farm. Pokémon come and go as they please, however I do breed Pokémon from time to time. I make sure their homes are perfect for them. My farm has various different areas Pokémon find perfect to live in. I also have a enclosed garden I can use for the new friend so they can get use to other Pokémon around outside. They will have access inside as well. After that, I'll allow them free range of the outdoors. Though, I'll check on how their doing, and we have shelters for Pokémon as well as tracking chips for all Pokémon in case of any issues.
Alright Rowan, I'm happy to inform you that due to your property size and your partner's status as a Ranger, you're eligible to adopt two Pokémon if you'd like to. The two spoke over the phone, and decided it would be best to bring the two most promising candidates to Rowan's farm to make sure they like all their new friends, including the small herd and a few Lotad on the farm.
Ellisa woke early this morning to prepare for a trip to Galar. Her mom and siblings came to watch the Island for the day. Dusk, her Drifblim, was saddled with a hanging basket for the passengers, who were waiting patiently to go to their potential new home.
"Alright kids, load up. We have a long flight to Galar ahead of us." A nervous Galarian Ponyta colt stepped cautiously into the basket, followed by a relaxed flowering Lotad, who then asked to be picked up. Pearl, Ellisa’s Gardevoir, wearing a back pack, obliged the little plant, and closed the gate behind them. Ellisa had offered to put the Pokémon in balls for the trip, but they wanted to see the sights on the way. There's no better way to sight see than from a Drifblim, Ellisa thought. As the basket rose from the ground, Ponyta let out a whine, and stamped his feet lightly, getting used to the change in elevation. Ellisa pet his head and soothed him until he seemed more comfortable.
Most of the journey was over the ocean, although the coasts of Johto and Sinnoh were visible for some time as the group traveled north. Lotad looked with bright eyes over Snowpoint city, having never seen snow before.
"Just wait until we pass over the Crown Tundra little guy, It's absolutely beautiful." Indeed, his excitement increased as we flew lower over the tundra. Snowflakes landed on both Pokémon, causing little squeals of joy. Soon enough, Wedgehurst was visible over the horizon.
"Rowan said his farm was just outside Wedgehurst. We should see it soon." As Ellisa finished her sentence, she saw the river that cuts through the field and disappears into the forest. Several Ponyta and Mudbray galloped through the patches of short and tall grass, the river was alive with water type Pokémon, and a beautiful garden with a green house decorated the land. A lilly pond sat in the garden, and the distant figures of a person and their partner Zoroark were the last things Ellisa noticed before looking for a place to land. She settled on a patch of short grass near the pond, and Dusk slowly floated towards the ground.
Rowan walked over to the group, releasing their Gardevoir in case any extra help was needed. A Sylveon followed closely behind him wearing a little diabetic alert vest.
"Morning! Hope your journey was pleasant. These are Nyx, Opheila, and Serena." Rowan greeted as he pointed to each Pokémon, before scratching Serena's head and ribbons. "The other Lotad are in the pond at the moment, and I'm sure you saw the herd." Rowan extended his hand to shake, which Ellisa took excitedly in her grasp.
"The journey was lovely. I think the youngsters enjoyed the experience as a whole. I have a service Pokémon named Nyx as well!" She pulled a ball out of her bag and released an Umbreon, who nuzzled into Ellisa’s leg. "She helps me with anxiety and ADHD, along with my boy Pan, an Espeon who stayed at the island today. You have a lovely property." Pearl put down the Lotad, who stretched out his legs and sniffed the dirt. The Ponyta looked eagerly at Ellisa, waiting to be told he could go for a run with the others.
"He can go off if you're alright with it, I'll just make sure they're in eye sight and that Nyx is nearby since the others do as she says. There shouldn't be any problems." The breeder smiled and made sure that his treat bag was secure. "We can give you a tour of the place."
"Run along little one. Have fun, but don't go too far okay?" Ellisa pat his back for reassurance, and he took off clumsily after the herd. "You too Lotad," she knelt to talk to him, "Can you get to the pond by yourself?" He nodded happily and started his waddle to meet new friends. "I would love that! It would give those two some time to get to know the others, and make sure they all get along."
Serena got up and curled his ribbons round Rowan's arm. Nyx wondered off to the herd, and Rowan turned to Opheila. "Make sure Flowers doesn't stay out of the pool for too long, and keep a eye on them all for me, please, Opheila." The Gardevoir nodded and headed off toward the pond. Ellisa told Dusk to rest up, returning them to their ball.
The, now smaller, group began their tour around the farm. As they left the garden, Rowan turned to Ellisa, "I've been meaning to ask you if there was anything special I should know about those two."
"Lotad's bloom attracts Combee, but they don't bother him. He's super easy going, and will do any favor you ask of him, which can get him stepped on. Ponyta has a lot of energy. He's still really young, only four months, but runs like a mad man. Otherwise, I assume since you already have some members of both of these species, that you can take care of them just fine."
Rowan grinned shyly and rubbed the back of their head, "Yeah, I've been tending to these Pokémon for a while. I think this Lotad will get along well with one of ours. We've nicknamed him 'Flowers' because he likes flowers so much that we catch him wandering away from the pond. We've been planting flowers around it to encourage him to stay, but a flowering friend may do the trick. Also, that's good to know! I've been trying to get Combee here for ages."
"If you want Combee, I recommend replacing some of this grass," Ellisa gestured around at the surrounding land, "with clover. Your herd will love it as well, and it doesn't grow as tall, limiting up-keep. Lotad is also nearly at the age of maturity, meaning you could cross breed him to have more flowering variants to attract more Combee if you wanted."
Nyx whined and nudged Ellisa’s leg. The caretaker reached down to touch her, realizing that her partner was cold. Pearl picked up on what was happening instantly, and dug through her bag for a jacket, helping Ellisa put it on the dark type. As the group continued their tour, they came upon a building.
"These are the stables, but I'm having another built on the opposite side of the field that will be more open and airy for summer. My partner and I have been looking into Pokémon safe natural foods, including more kinds of grasses, since we'd like to give them the best possible lives. Thank you for recommending clover, I'll be sure to get some."
The group began to circle back around to the pond when Rowan remembered something. "Oh I almost forgot to mention, a friend of mine recommended you to me. It's Noire, she adopted a Houndoom from you named Violette."
Ellisa's eyes widened in surprise. "I didn't know you and Noire knew eachother! What a small world. Her and my line of work are similar, you know? I mean, her's is more on the educational side, but we have the same goal. I was so happy to adopt out Violette to her. They make a good team."
"Yeah, we met through another friend of mine who is a ghost type breeder, since they used to work together on ghost type education. I was actually thinking about taking your breeding suggestion with Lotad and using the baby variants to teach people about grass type variants so that maybe someone else won't make the same mistake as this one's previous trainer, thinking that they are sick. I've always loved grass types, and Lotad are an old favorite of mine, but I've never had a flowering one before. This is an exciting change."
As they approached the pond, Ellisa could see that the herd had stopped to take a drink from the pond and rest. They seemed to get along great with their newest member, who was playfully nibbling one of the Mudbray. Rowan's Zoroark, Nyx, was nearby, leaning against a tree as they kept a watchful eye. Opheila sat with her feet in the pond, smiling happily. As they got closer, Ellisa saw the Lotad variant floating calmly in front of her as another stared in awe at his water lily, seemingly entranced by it. Ellisa got a little sad, knowing that she would have to say good bye to these two, but also knew that they had found their perfect forever homes and would be happiest here.
Rowan brought Ellisa out of her contemplation, asking, "Can people adopt again? These two are such a perfect fit for our home, and since we have so much space we would love to help out more abandoned Pokémon."
"You'll need to catch these two in a Pokéball today to register them to your ID, and we will have to have a visit again in six months to check on everything, but since your property is so large you'll be able to adopt more at that time. You could even become a transfer site for foster Pokémon that the facility can't care for, such as ice types during the spring and summer months or very large Pokémon that the island can't support. I'll keep your adoption application on file to make the process smoother next time."
While filling out the paperwork, Rowan and their partner Raven decided on Clurichaurn as a name for the Ponyta. They also offered Lotad a few names to pick from, with Opheila as a translator, and he chose Kaj. Ellisa said goodbye to everyone, wishing the two she was leaving good luck in their new home, before releasing Dusk once again for the flight back home.

Hi! Fellow Ranger here. I'm currently in the process of setting up a Ranger network for the Galar region's Wild Area and I was wondering what kind of structures you'd recommend for attracting nearby Pokémon? Just so we can have some close at hand to partner up with when we need 'em. So far I've built a nesting tree for the local bird Pokémon and started work on a bug/grass type garden but I know there's gotta be other stuff I can set up. Thanks for the help! Great to see another Ranger out here
Hello! I admittedly have very little knowledge of Galar or its Wild Area, but Im a little concerned about your actions. A wild area, by its very name, is meant to be untouched as much as possible. Surely in your training as a Ranger, you were told again and again how much of Ranger work revolves around preserving the area in it natural state as much as possible, unless for the safety of pokemon and people? These things, while they seem ok, likely are going to do more harm than good. I can only assume these were being authorized due to some agreement the local Ranger branch has with the Galarian government I can very much sympathize with not having pokemon nearby when you need them. We have all been there, but we all have to adapt and go searching for what we need. Its nice to think of the posibilities, but the risks outweigh the benifits.
1. Wild pokemon will learn that buildings and gardens provide a ready supply of food, and will wander into cities or harass humans to obtain what they have learned these structures provide. A large pokemon who learns they can eat from the garden will go to other gardens. A Pokemon who expects these things to be provided has a good chance of getting violent if the spot doesnt continue to provide, and overall pokemon will leave thier wild habitat and leave voids in the ecosystem that normally isnt effected by, say, a trainer catching one or two pokemon. Many pokemon species are social, so youd be looking at a group of pokemon relocating.
2. Pokemon Lures, like honey in Sinnoh, are often easy for trainers to spot, and since these structures are permanent, it would be fairly easy for a Trainer to camp out nearby and nab pokemon without much effort, thus also depriving you of these hypothetical helpers, and open up a possibility of poaching. There is also the high chance that other trainers might see this and decide to make thier own. This makes habitat and population monitering much harder, and again, poachers will capitalize on these structures. And they can all say they thought it was ok sice they saw them out in the wild area with nothing to say others couldt build thier own.
3. Structures like you mentioned are generally only authroized for Rangers to use by research groups or in population rebuilding efforts. I havent heard of any pokemon species populations in desperate need of homes or having a food scarcity, so this is still very much out of the norm.
4. Generally structures built for Ranger use comprise only of Waystations for Rangers to shelter in, Small sheltered spots to recharge your styler and take care of things and communications that your styler cant handle by itself or that has more first aid supplies or tools than you might be able to carry, or a solid permanent base. None of these ever have things to attract pokemon, and at most they have places for a partner pokemon to shelter with you, or a place for a pokemon you are tasked to help rest while you give it some first aid.
I wish you the best over in Galar, but I recommend you build nothing more.

PERSONALITY
Valentine is very quiet and tends to shy away meeting new people, which makes these entire pokemon games a nightmare for anyone who is super shy. Though, with the help of her Lycanroc, Gravel, she has become braver little by little. When not out battling, they tend to stay in their room to do basically anything but socialize with others.
When you get to know her, she’s very passionate and loud, and talks almost non-stop. They’re also very affectionate with the people they love, and can often be seen cuddling up to one of their pokemon.
Speaking of pokemon, they are extremely passionate about battling with their trusted pokemon, despite some of the injuries they can retain. She’s just very passionate about all pokemon in general, and aims to help wounded/in trouble pokemon no matter what.
BIOGRAPHY
After moving from region to region all their life, Valentine and their family finally settled in the “quiet” Galar region. In the summer, when not in school, her family often takes trips to Alola to visit relatives.
TRIVIA
Valentine has the unique ability to communicate with pokemon, with them understanding her, and her being able to understand them.
The region’s they’ve lived in are: Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, and Unova.
They’ve also briefly visited Alola, where some of their relatives live.
Sometimes, she also gets cryptic dreams/nightmares of what is to come in the future.
You can’t see them as of right now, but Valentine has fangs!
Although they don’t look or act the part, they’re skilled in hand-to-hand combat.
They also like to challenge and have practice fights to Bea to keep their skill up.
If she didn’t become the Champion, she’d definitely become the next fairy-type gym leader, or even the next fire-type gym leader!
Them and my Alola! S/I are cousins.
Her hair can either be wine-red or brown.
Due to extremely personal reasons, Valentine is absolutely terrified of heights and unless riding their pokemon/beside their pokemon, absolutely cannot go into high buildings/fly.
For the same reason, she also gets extremely nervous in forests and around tall trees.
bolded pokemon = these pokemon (besides her main team ofc) are often out of their pokeballs and roam alongside Valentine!! :3
* = after zamazenta/zacian and eternatus are caught, and more than a little bit after the champion cup.
** = kinda dependz..... i love torracat but i also love incineroar.....

nyankeess replied to your post “how is everyone liking SwSh?”
I like it a lot! I haven't beaten the game yet but my favorite things atm are the online features in the wild area and making curry!! It's really cool to see people running around in the wild area.. and I like anything that vaguely reminds me of making poffins (especially the "be sure not to spill note"... lol). My teams currently.. Kiri (Raboot), Skull (Stunky), Nami (Liepard), Robin (Thievul), Crüe (Galarian Linoone), and Loki (Toxel). I'm having a ton of fun so far,,
ahhh i was reminded of poffins during the curry cooking too!! the poffin minigame was always one of my favorite bits of gen 4, and im glad to see it coming back in a sense! (also... sinnoh confirmed?? please!???)
i also really like the online bits of the wild area too! i personally havent gotten to experience that yet, since my room at university only has wired internet and no wifi, so my switch can’t connect, but ive seen how it works on a bunch of streams and it looks so cool! also reminds me a bit of the underground from gen 4, but on a bigger scale! its how i used to imagine pokemon games being in the future when i was a kid lol
and that seems like a nice team! ive seen lots of people loving toxel and its evo, and i would have used one on mine but i already had electric coverage with boltund, so toxel had to sit this round out. ill probably use one when i inevitably play through again though!
