aeri reviews “7’sCarlet”
Tumblr media
—DISCLAIMER—
whatever you read in this post, take it as a personal opinion of a single individual. in other words, only you can form your own conclusion about what you thought of this game. also, this might look like an informal review more than anything (or rant bruv), so there’s that lol
images used in this post came from their official website (as a promotion) or their official X account
now that’s all said, i’ll get started:
—DESCRIBE WHAT THE GAME’S ABOUT—
so there’s our main character named ichiko hanamaki who’s wondering where her older brother— and i squinted suspiciously, yes— could be as he disappeared one year ago— yes, you read that right, like why did it take so long— when he went to a place called okunezato and her childhood friend slash best friend named hino kagutsuchi proposed that they should investigate behind it, and thus begins a premise of mystery and questions— a scooby-doo otome, finally?
—INCOMING SPOILERS AHEAD—
—HINO KAGUTSUCHI—
Tumblr media
hino, oh hino— another childhood friend, and why yes, i did had red laser eyes on this dude from the beginning because i couldn’t count on fingers how many times have childhood friends acted trashy towards MC? well, if you played long enough, you can sympathize with me, ig?
but surprise, surprise— he’s alright, fine, sane, and normal LI— if you’re thinking, “eh, maybe he’s an ass towards MC”, but nope, i couldn’t call that ass since he’s just bantering towards ichiko, and funny asf too in other routes, especially his banters with isora— but unfortunately, i didn’t feel anything special with this route, i was like, “yeah, this is mid”
—ISORA AMARI—
why? i dunno, maybe because no spicy plot reveal yet or he’s not my choice on ichiko or those two mashed reasons altogether lol
and him being inconsistent in other routes is just so jarring??
Tumblr media
this dude— like this dude— i really want to finish this route quick because it’s insufferable
now, now, about the “insufferable” word that i used, it’s not that bad as you think— like there’s countless of garbage you can think of that’s trashier than this dude pls this dude’s not at least harming ichiko in every route possible— unlike poyo-poyo, tomomori, yang, sanan, toma, etc. coughs, but why though?
simple: i’m not fan of his character— weeps, when will you voice a cold and blunt LI again, tetsu-kaki— his backstory is so?? i had enough of a childhood friend plot again, like tf— and i’m not sold on why he’s a controlling and possessive freak with anger issues all of a sudden— it doesn’t make any sense— i mean, maybe you can argue that he lost his father and he saw their restaurant fall apart ig, but i’m not sold lol— he feels like a lifeless food that you can get in the convenience store— which i find ironic since he’s a chef lol
a totally forgettable trash LI, that’s for sure
—TOA KUSHINADA—
Tumblr media
an LI where he had a reverse charm to him? yes, baby, bring it on!
yes, he’s that kind of LI— and i’m shocked that happened because i never saw that coming— at all
he’s this dude that’s like everyone and their moms bullies in school or whatever place there is because he’s a weirdo in their eyes— socially awkward, scrawny, clumsy, and maybe unattractive to their eyes, again, charismatic aura is also a game changer in terms of becoming a famous person besides being attractive— and surprise, surprise, who would’ve thought the loser is an idol— yes, you read that right
i was also like ichiko’s reaction— i couldn’t believe it
i love his backstory and how his good experience with ichiko just erased the bad experiences he’d been through with his bullies and that actually helped him to be a better person, in his own will
... and yeah, about the true route— ahaha, let’s pretend this didn’t happen, yeah?
what it feels like to play the true route if you’re a toa fan:
Tumblr media
—SOSUKE TATEHIRA—
Tumblr media
ngl, i’m not interested in him, although his appearance nailed exactly what’s attractive in my book— glasses, raven hair, and oceanic blue eyes lol— i dunno why
but as i went with his route, i became interested— i siked myself there for a moment lmfao
he also has a reverse charm to him, not exactly too gap like toa’s but it’s present there— in the general route, he’s all aloof— you can even describe him as a jerk, but i believe this is just him being logical, and that’s not a bad thing when he first met ichiko— and talks like a walking encyclopedia lol and it turns out that he must be all that busybody to the point he never had experienced fun in his life— which at first, i find ridiculous ngl, but looking at his backstory, it makes sense, really— and ichiko going through his life made his world upside down— su-weet lol
—YUZUKI MURAKUMO—
Tumblr media
i think newcomers would 100% think that he’s an ass at the beginning, and tbf, i agree with it lol
he’s much closed off more than sosuke, like at least sosuke instantly warmed up with everyone, but what about yuzuki? he remains an enigma, truly making me curious about what goes on with this dude
well, ofc, as expected, it turns out that he cares a lot about things more than what meets the eye— his backstory is fantastic as well— he guards his heart well, but ichiko succeeded in trespassing that lol
the amount of times he goes “HUH??” with ichiko’s words or action is so hilarious— daaaawg
yuzuki’s sealed it for me as my favorite 7’sCarlet LI thanks to his BE#3, well, it’s more like a continuation of NE, or an alt NE—
PLS I FIND IT HOT THAT HE LOST CONTROL OF HIMSELF SINCE HE BECAME A REVENANT WHILE ICHIKO’S FINE WITH THAT AS LONG AS IT’S HIM 🥵🌶️
PLS HE WAS SO DOWN BAD WITH ICHIKO
i want this ending too since both of them were shish-kebabed in the hands of ensepulchers while hugging each other— it’s better than ichiko herself would survive alone without her LI </3
—SECRET ROUTE—
unfortunately, i can’t paste the secret route’s image here because duh, a secret’s supposed to be a secret lol
i’ve already raised an eyebrow towards ichiko’s motivations of going to okuzenato, and knowing how oniichan mostly had an infamous reputation in this niche genre, i was bracing myself to remove my brain in case brain-dead stuff happens— which to my shock, that didn’t happen, or it wasn’t bad, and i find it good
still, i won’t blame others if they go full: “wtf???” at this route since there are still moments that would go people like (myself included):
Tumblr media
but i’m a fan of plot where a character is an immortal being and then develops feelings for someone— in the case of this game, others might criticize its writing, and i don’t exactly blame them because it feels like it’s rushed, well, i just think it’s all a flashback to the secret route’s perspective since secret’s explaining to ichiko, not exactly diving into the past fully
i still think it’s pretty neat that the true route foreshadows this one
the ending’s so bittersweet, and realistically, people would find ichiko and the secret route weird (or even immoral) to be together since she knew the secret route as her oniichan ever since she was a kid, plus ichiko would move on to hino as her romantic interest instead— even the secret route relied on hino to take good care of her hihi—
but there’s hint that secret route might be coming back, like it’s up to our interpretation ig
—SYSTEM—
since this is a visual novel, of course, choosing choices is the staple gameplay of it, but i’d like to point out the beautiful background/s since there were times that it was dynamic and that sound effect whenever there’s revelation unfolding makes me jump ngl lol
—OVERALL THOUGHTS—
Tumblr media
ichiko might be criticized of “wtf girl??”, but i’d say she’s not that bad as what people tend to say (just take their opinion with a grain of salt, ALWAYS), but i think she shines the most with hino, sosuke and yuzuki’s route because she’s funny and has comebacks of wits lol
the game’s really good at foreshadowing what would happen in the next route, like a lot of it, if you pay attention
however, i still find how the game is written odd, that’s all i have to say
not a smooth experience, that’s for sure, but i didn’t regret playing this game even though it’s not the very best out there since i finally satiated my curiosity about it— and shinichiro miki and showtaro morikubo and me and my rotted braincells thinking of only hakuoki thoughts lmao

[Image Description: An edited screenshot from the game Kingdom Hearts 3. In the foreground is the character Woody, facing away from the viewer. He is a white toy cowboy doll with a yellow and red checked shirt, a cow-skin best that is white with black spots, out of which sticks a plastic circle that can be pulled on. He has brown hair under a brown cowboy hat, and wears a red bandana. Surrounding Woody is a dark purple, nebulous place and sparks of white light. Facing woody is an edited-in image of Yuzuki Murakumo, a pale skinned Japanese man in a dark robe and jacket with pointed shoulders, a high collar, and a hood. He has brown hair and golden eyes and half of his face is shadowed by hid hood as he stares down menacingly. The image is captioned with dialogue from Woody, reading "My guess is no one's ever loved you before." END ID]

Hino my beloved son...
A lot of otome romances are hit or miss for me and a lot of routes have like. Ah okay that was sweet or Well that was a nice line of dialogue. But Hino over the course of the entire game, over all the routes, is the only character I can think of that actually made me feel a punch to the gut and want to adopt him. Like it’s one line of dialogue in the game that after you’ve played it all.... just WOW. Made me feel really emotional. I wanna replay this game so badly where is my Vita copy.

"Murakumo-sama, are you there?” The soft voice echoed from down the hallway, breaking the boy from his reverie.
It would be nice if he responded, but he did not feel like it. The odds are that she would come to the living room anyways, but he had hoped that she would merely return to bed and forget all about what she was doing up.
No such luck for the Murakumo heir.
“There you are!” She acknowledged him, sat on a chair, looking out the window, observing the slow crawl of the moon in the Summer sky. “What time is it?”
Three AM. It was three in the Goddamn morning and Yuzuki could not fall asleep for the life of him. It is as if every time he felt slightly at peace, God almighty needed to put a halt to it.
He turned to face his companion and sighed in content. Despite the insufferable insomnia, the sight of her standing up in front of him without a care in the world brought a bit of happiness to his heart.
Ichiko Hanamaki-sama. A sixteen-year-old, brunette girl with large violet eyes and a pleasant demeanour. Lord Kyouji Murakumo’s esteemed guest. She was the daughter of a business associate of Yuzuki’s father’s, and also someone of great interest for the family’s side hustle, if you must. A side hustle he had recently been made part of.
There was something about that girl, Yuzuki concluded upon their very first encounter. Not something bad, but something that he appreciates very much, a rare occurrence amongst his acquaintances.
If anything, she was the only person who seemed to perceive his anguish, and the only one who tried to soothe it.
Ichiko crossed the large room and kneeled in front of Yuzuki, taking on his hands, but blushing when his sights were set firmly on her face.
"Three thirty." He whispered, in an effort to mask that he had not slept. “It is three thirty in the evening. You should be asleep.”
The young heir knew that the brunette would only worry and he did not want to submit her to his foolish anxieties. Alas, Ichiko is perceptive enough to instantly spot the dark and heavy bags that sat underneath his feline yellow eyes and his freshly licked, pouting lips.
"I should be in bed, and so should you. Have you gotten any sleep?" She questioned softly and grasped his hand lovingly, careful not to embarrass him or make him close off.
"Yes." He lied, but felt immediately guilty. It was unbecoming of him, and it would not get him any advantage.
As if reading his mind, the thin eyebrows of hers raised in inquisitive disbelief and he averted his gaze, not to embarrass himself any further.
"No." The young Murakumo admitted quietly and his voice tugged at her heartstrings.
She sighed. “Would be any good if I asked what is in your mind that troubles you so?”
“No.” It was the curt response.
Even if his little secret did concern her own continued existence, all parties agree it would be better if she could just live out her years in peace and blissful ignorance.
Faced with his laconic disposition, Ichiko opened her arms in an invitation, Yuzuki cuddled into her side and fit his frame perfectly with hers. The warm comfort of her lithe body only drew him in further as he laid his head on the curve of her neck and tangled his legs with her exposed ones.
A thin smile grazed his lips, spreading one to her face, too. She was indeed very kind and trusting. It might just come with the albino territory, but it is awfully pleasant to be around such a person.
"Do you feel any better?" She asked with a warm tone, as he found her fingers stroking his thick, coarse black hair.
"I am." He hummed in agreement. “Thank you for your concern.”
As her breath becomes even and sleep starts to overtake her senses, Ichiko toyed with his hair and Yuzuki found sweet peace in the sound of her slow heartbeat.
"Hanamaki-sama?" The boy spoke.
"What is it?" She responded sleeply.
"Would you..." He trailed off, unsure and self-conscious. "Never mind, goodnight darling."
"No, please. Do continue." She encouraged, recognizing the hesitancy he often showed when it came to any sort of request. "Would I what?"
The heir sighed. "If it is not too much of a hassle, would you sing to me?"
The request was not very audible, but she heard it and complied. "Of course. If it will make you feel better."
"Thank you." He whispered.
Still with her fingers locked in his hair, Ichiko took an unbecoming pride in the way he softened and relaxed with her ginger touch.
"Nen, nen korori yo, Okorori yo." She sang softly. "Bōya wa yoi koda, Nenneshina."
Slowly, his eyes grew heavier and heavier but he held on to hear the end of the song in her voice.
"Bōya no omori wa, Doko e itta? Ano yama koete, sato e itta."
Her voice swayed deliciously in his ears.
" Sato no miyagē ni, nani morōta. Denden taiko ni, shō no fue."
The lullaby brought Yuzuki a long-awaited bliss and the realization he might just be able to fall in love with the doe-eyed girl with the violet irises.
"My nanny used to sing me Edo Lullaby when I was a child." Yuzuki said, his voice mumbling due to the creeping unconsciousness of sleep. “I like it a lot, and you have a beautiful singing voice, Hanamaki-sama.”
“Thank you.” Ichiko whispered back. “I am glad you like it. I’ll sing it again some other time if you’d like.”
“I would.” He responded. “Good night, Hanamaki-sama.”
"Good night, Murakumo-sama."
Early the next morning, with the two teens still deep asleep, Kyouji was quite glad with the image that greeted him on their living room. It would do very well if this came to blossom into a marriage, it would do very well.

What’s In a Book? Part 29
While going through my collection I managed to find a few books that have yet to be featured on here yet. I decided to go with this one as, upon further review, I noticed that it actually contained a wealth of information that I had previously ignored ^^;
Tumblr media
Image of book’s cover courtesy of myself. Hana Akari: Showa Meigiren (はなあかり: 昭和名妓連) - Brilliant Flowers: The Showa Period’s Finest Geisha by Kobunshi Katsura (桂小文枝) (ISBN Unknown). Date of Publication: 1988 Language: Japanese and English (Some Essays and Names Only) Format: Hardcover Availability: Can be found up for auction on a fairly regular basis Price: Anywhere from $30 - $80 Errors: 0 This book is interesting, and that’s putting it mildly. Basically, it provides us with some of the best raw data for its time: The names of the most prominent geisha in each district of each city across all of Japan. It is a literal who’s who guide to the karyukai across the country in the late 1980s and is illuminating both in small essays that can be found at the front and back of the book explaining various schools and styles, but especially because it provides us with images, most in full color, of these amazing women.  The book overall is divided into regions which are then broken down further from there. The regions, cities, and districts of each named geisha are: Part 1: Hokkaido (北海道) Set 1: Asahikawa (旭川) - Kofune (小舟) Set 2: Sapporo (札幌) - Onobu (お信), Itoko (い登子), Izumi (いづみ), and Charako (茶良子) Set 3: Otaru (小樽) - Komomo (小桃), Mametarō (豆太郎), Kiku (㐂久), and Gorō (吾朗) Set 4: Muroran (室蘭) - Chonko (﹅子) Set 5: Hakodate (函館) - Nantoki (喃登希) and Kohide (小ひで)  Part 2: Tohoku (東北) Set 1: Morioka (盛岡) - Tsutamaru (都多丸)   Set 2: Hanamaki (花巻) - Kimiko (君子) and Keiko (桂子) Set 3: Aomori (青森) - Chame (茶目) Set 4: Yamagata (山形) - Kochō (小蝶) and Kinta (金太)   Set 5: Akita (秋田) - Chiyogiku (千代菊) Set 6: Obara (小原) - Ikkyū (一休), Aki (秋), and Kogiku (小菊) Set 7: Fukushima (福島) - Sakura (さくら) and Hidemi (秀美) Part 3: Kanto (関東) Set 1: Takasaki (高崎) - Kiyoko (清子) Set 2: Kusatsu (草津) - Sankoma (三駒) and Harumi (春美)   Set 3: Sarugakyo (猿ヶ京) - Kikutaro (菊太郎), Koshizu (小静) Set 4: Minakami (水上) - Yutaka (ゆたか) Set 5: Oyama (大山) - Kunika (くに香) Set 6: Tokyo (東京) - Fumie (冨美江) and Wakaryū (若龍) Set 7: Yugawara (湯河原) - Okame (お加目), Matsue (松栄), and Taeko (多恵子) Part 4: Chubu (中部) Set 1: Niigata (新潟) - Chiyogiku (千代菊) Set 2: Takada (高田) - Kazuko (加津子) Set 3: Shibata (新発田) - Renko (れん子) Set 4: Kamidayamadatogura (上山田戸倉) - Senryū (泉竜), Suzuyakko (鈴奴), Saizō (才三), and Utamaru (歌丸) Set 5: Kamisuwa (上諏訪) - Chiyomaru (千代丸) Set 6: Isawa (石和) - Miki (美樹) and Koyakko (小奴) Set 7: Kōfu (甲府) - Misako (美佐子), Kimika (君香), and Hisayo (久代) Set 8: Inuyama (犬山) - Misako (みさ子) Set 9: Hamamatsu (浜松) - Gonza (権三), Ichitarō (市太郎), Otomi (乙美), Koman (小萬), Eiko (栄子), Hatsutarō (初太郎), Tsuruchiyo (鶴千代), Yasuyo (泰世), Sakura (佐久良), Sachiko (幸子), Toshie (利枝), Komomo (小百々), Momoko (百々子), Fumiya (二三弥), Mitsugiku (光菊), Azuma (吾妻), Akiko (明子), and Ichiha (市羽) Set 10: Kanazawa Higashi/East (金沢東) - Koman (小まん) Set 11: Kanazawa Kazuemachi (金沢主計町) - Hitoha (一葉) and Kyōko (京子) Set 12: Kanazawa Nishi/West (金沢西) - Mineko (峯子), Sachiyo (幸代), and Marichiyo (まり千代) Set 13: Fukui (福井) - Makiko (真㐂子) and Yurako (由良子) Set 14: Yuzawa (湯沢) - Katsumaru (勝丸) and Hiromi (弘美) Set 15: Nagoya (名古屋) - Fukuchiyo (福千代), Takako (敬子), Tsuruko (つる子), Mitsuyo (光代), Kiku (喜久), Emiya (英美弥), Sanchō (三長), Satoyo (里代), Mitsu (未津), Ayako (あや子), Kinmaru (金丸), Naoe (直枝), Fukuwaka (福若), Hisae (比三枝), Mako (間子), Yasuko (康子), Toshino (とし乃), Koie (鯉恵), Mariko (まり子), Katsuko (かつ子), Maiko (舞子), Kingyo (金漁), Hideka (秀佳), Chiyoe (千代江), and Motoko (素子) Part 5: Kinki (近畿) Set 1: Osaka (大阪) Part A: Osaka Minami (大阪南) - Yukiharu (雪春), Kikutsuru (菊つる), Kikue (菊恵), Rikimaru (力丸), Kinko (きん子), Yukiji (ゆき路), Kōjirō (廣二郎), Yoshiko (よし子), Terugiku (照菊), Midori (美登利), Hankō (はん幸), Kazumi (かず美), Yukie (ゆき恵), Yūka (勇花), Suzuka (鈴佳), Masako (まさ子), Fukuemi (福笑), Masachiyo (政千代), Kikufumi (菊二三), and Yūko (祐子). I’m not too sure why they were skipped over, but it’s possible that the author did not have any connections to them. The most informative part that I admit I skipped initially is the small print under each geisha’s name: their natori specialty, natori teachers, and natori names. This means that we can trace back what schools were the main specialty of each region going back decades. Since this is invaluable for anyone studying geisha over time, I’ll write in what schools were followed, but I will keep names a secret. Districts are as follows: Part 1: Hokkaido (北海道) Set 1 Asahikawa (旭川) - Kineya (杵屋) Set 2: Sapporo (札幌) - Wakayagi (若柳) for dance and Tadeko (蓼胡) for song Set 3: Otaru (小樽) - Fujima (藤間) for dance and Tadeko (蓼胡), Kineya (杵屋), Kiyomoto (清元), Shunnichi (春日), and Tokiwazu (常磐津) for song. Set 7: Kagoshima (鹿児島) - Kineya (杵屋) and Tagoto (田毎) for song. The reason why this book has no ISBN is because it was self published. The original cover price was ¥30,000, which is almost $300 USD. This price was likely set due to the vast amount of research done, including acquiring the many photographs, and printing costs. This price was also likely due to it being targeted at serious karyukai connoisseurs as that price in the 1980s would have been much higher now due to inflation. Nowadays you don’t have to pay as much for this book as most Japanese sellers see it as outdated and it can be found quite regularly on Japanese retail sites, such as Yahoo Japan Auctions or Rakuten.   The only “errors: that I could find were some spelling issues, but that’s because they’re using the Japanese way of writing Romaji and not the Hepburn System. So, I’m not counting them as errors, but rather just making note of them to anyone who purchases this book. Rating: ✪✪✪✪ (out of 5)

7’SCARLET
Release Date: May 25, 2018 (North America) Developers:  Toybox Inc, Otomate Publishers:  Idea Factory, Aksys Games Platforms:  PS Vita ESRB Rating: T (Teen)
As the second title released by Aksys Games for their Summer Mystery Bundle, 7’scarlet offers one gripping mystery-solving game play amplified with a cute touch of romance.
Walkthroughs:
Hino Kagutsuchi Isora Amari Toa Kushinada Sosuke Tatehira Yuzuki Murakumo True Route & Final Character
  Read the game’s synopsis here.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS Otome Visual Novels are either a hit or a miss when it comes to it’s story narratives. Just like Collar x Malice, 7’scarlet did one hell of a job foregoing a very intriguing mystery-type plot line while having a few romantic events as an additive to its overarching deep story. Like a really good book or a TV series, it was so hard to brush off the game’s story build-up as it became curiously engaging in each chapter you progress.
With the help of it’s unique visuals and animations, playing 7’scarlet was close to watching your favorite anime series.

ART One of the things I really enjoyed while playing 7’scarlet was seeing its astonishing BG images. It’s just so pretty, it’s like wallpaper material, no kidding! (giggle)
Tumblr media
. The game’s artist was non other than, Kurahana Chinatsu an illustrator who’s also famous for her other popular works such as the character designs for Uta no Prince-Sama, Lamento (Beyond the Void), and Togainu no Chi.

Looking at these lovely BG images reminded me of browsing through expensive art catalogs!

SOUNDTRACK AND VOICE ACTING There are two opening themes, “World’s End Syndrome” and “LOVESICK”, you can unlock the latter after finishing a certain route in the game. The BGMs are good too, some are rather simple but very fitting for the game’s setting and story transitions. Heck, I ended up buying the whole 7’scarlet soundtrack in iTunes.
And like any other game, there will always be that one song you’ll end up getting stuck with, even after completing  the game. Dat-one-song that gave you so much FEELS. In 7’scarlet, mine would have to be the song “Starry”.
  Voice Acting
Nobunaga Shimazaki “Hino“ – Napoleon (Ikevamp), Kurogane Naoto (BlazBlue), Mitsuhide (Sengoku Nightblood)
Tetsuya Kakihara “Isora“ – Shin (Amnesia), Victor Frankenstein (Code Realize), Karasuba (Pyschedelica BB), Toki Tanba (Charming Empire)

  MAIN CHARACTERS (SPOILER FREE)
Tumblr media
Recommended play order:
1)Hino 2)Isora 3)Toa – only unlocks after finishing Hino and Isora’s good ending 4)Sosuke – only unlocks after finishing Toa’s good ending 5)Yuzuki – only unlocks after finishing all of the character’s good ending
  Hino Kagutsuchi
Childhood friend
Sporty
Dork
Hino’s story was cute. It had very few spoilers regarding the game’s overarching plot but his route did a good job catering as a story build-up for the oncoming routes you’ll get in to after finishing the first two recommended ones (his and Isora’s). I enjoyed the fact that Hino was physically a jock on the outside but covertly the biggest dork on the inside
Tumblr media
(the guy fangirls on ‘kawaii’ things! Awww). His romance ventured more into the friendship-type-love rather than a mature one. His route wasn’t my favorite, but it was definitely a good start, nevertheless.
Tumblr media
  Isora Amari
Best Chef
Hot tempered
Jealous
Yandere
Just like Hino’s route, Isora’s story offers very few spoilers of the game’s underlying plot but was well written enough to create a very mysterious atmosphere of the town, Okunezato. Isora’s character depth was also deeper than I expected and I wished the writers expounded more on the justification of this character’s actions rather than just throwing it on the spot. Despite this, I love Isora Amari’s story. It had great pacing, enough to give you that creep factor you seek in every mystery-themed visual novel. His romance, on the other hand may or may not suit everyone’s preferences. Although I personally enjoyed it, I can understand how it may not work for some. ┐(︶▽︶)┌
Tumblr media
  Toa Kushinada
Cat mom
Clumsy af
Color blind
such a sweet boi!
So my first impression with Toa was: “Really?! I have to romance this clumsy nerd, seriously, game?”. Then I started playing his route just to get it over with and oh my goodness! I did not expected the sudden turn of events!
As I’ve probably mentioned repeatedly on my previous reviews… I absolutely love it when a game catches you off guard, and this route takes the cake! I was left speechless.  I couldn’t talk more about his story without going into spoiler territory so I’ll leave it at this: Toa was such a great character and he deserves all the love in the world! Best boy (imo), one that’s definitely unforgettable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
  Sosuke Tatehira
Smart
Neat freak!
Best Doctor
OC!
If there was one route that got me at the edge of my seat in 7’scarlet ~ it was definitely Sosuke’s. His story had great pacing where it started off very light and warm then surprisingly escalated into a few bemusing affairs. His route also introduced a more definitive and deeper story regarding the mysteries surrounding the town of Okunezato. While the suspense was a little overwhelming in this route, I wanted to commend on how the romance never took a back seat in Sosuke’s story. His relationship with the heroine felt genuinely real and I love both his and Ichiko’s character development. I also loved the fact that Sosuke was such a neat freak and becomes very obsessive-compulsive about something so simple such as a goldfish scooping game! The perfect husbando, if you ask me! (chuckles)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
  Yuzuki Murakumo
Jerk Boss
Hot!!!
Intense
Tsundere
While the suspense was building up in Sosuke’s previous route, Yuzuki’s story on the other hand was a power house of thrill and drama coupled with a few action packed scenes and romantic events… And although it happened so fast, all at the same time, I’ve got to say it was paced really well that it didn’t came out too forced nor too overwhelming with information. I personally love Yuzuki’s character. He’s cold and irritable on the outside but inside his icy personality is one very warm fluffy husbando!
Tumblr media
His story was probably the most compelling as far as solving the mysteries of Okunezato goes.
Tumblr media
  Ichiko Hanamaki (You)
amnesiac heroine (explained in ??? ‘s route)
hates strawberries (explained in ??? ‘s route)
can’t swim (explained in ??? ‘s route)
Despite the the main protagonist’s naivety and recklessness to a point where you’d clearly have to question this heroine’s sense of danger
Tumblr media
(laughs), Ichiko Hanamaki had a couple of good points up her sleeve such as her strong will and determination to look for her disappeared older brother in spite of being absolutely clueless on where to begin. Another enjoyable aspect, was how this heroine sometimes gets shamelessly clumsy in declaring her love to the gentleman of her liking. She had a couple of funny moments that got me all “wtf lol” ~ so it was never a dull moment playing her as the MC.
Tumblr media
And it gets better… So the story doesn’t really end there. After finishing Hino, Isora, Toa, Sosuke, and Yuzuki’s route. Two more routes unlocks in this game.
Who is the culprit?
Tumblr media
Another factor why this game was so entertaining to me was that it reminded me of playing Mafiascum; where each player gets to accuse anybody as the culprit and the accused needs to present alibis to which another player/s confirms it to prove his innocence.
As someone who’s been playing mafiascum online for a long time, the game’s conclusion was somewhat predictable but I’ve got to admit, it was one gripping read and the “True Ending” was painfully heartbreaking.
  TRAILER
  OVERALL THOUGHTS?
Tumblr media
7’scarlet is a very well written mystery themed visual novel. While the story appeared so simple, the events where paced so good that the rise and fall of tension as you unravel the mysteries remained suspenseful enough to keep you wanting for more.
I had a couple of moments where I really couldn’t put down the game for a second just to eat or sleep because I had to know, I NEEED to know what will happen next!
Tumblr media
Truth be told, I had never expected I’d get so emotionally attached to this game. It’s really one gripping read. It’s one of those titles that’s hard to get over with even after finishing the game play. I think an overall rating of 4.5/5 is an appropriate mark for 7’scarlet. The rest of the .05 completing the perfect score is just me wishing they could’ve done more with the last secret route as I did felt it to be a little lacking as far as how the story concluded.
I would say the animation and movie clips were an additional plus points. Although without it, the game still excels as one of the most compelling stories an otome game has to offer. Do I recommend this game? YESSSS! If you’re looking for a good mystery-romance themed visual novel with great art, music, animation and one unforgettable story that will rob you of words, 7’scarlet is the perfect choice. All your money’s worth it too.
