It is Eurovision week! Of course we have to celebrate that with a Swedish Eurovision entry in Swedish. Until 1999, every country had to compete with an entry in their own language. Since that rule was dropped, all of Swedens Eurovision entries have been in English, sometimes with a Swedish version in the national tryouts being translated into English for the international contest.

The last time a song in Swedish represented Sweden in Eurovision was in 1998, when pop and country singer Jill Johnson competed with the ballad "Kärleken är" (Love is). She finished at 10th place. The lyrics, written by Ingela "Pling" Forsman, were inspired by Princess Dianas death in 1997.

Today, Jill Johnson hosts her own musical TV show called "Jills veranda" (Jill's porch) where Swedish artists visit her in Nashville to talk about music, among other things. A very 90's music video of "Kärleken är" was made, where Johnson walks around Stockholm city hall in a white suit:

Jag är ju sjukligt förtjust i dansbandens försök att göra svenska versioner av stora engelska hits. Missa för allt i världen inte Ingmar Nordströms passionerade cover på “Flashdance (What a Feeling)” på svenska “Vilken känsla (Flashdance)”.
