Chapter 168

Somehow they have, though. Because attached to my left shoulder is a gorgeous, perfect, glowing bright green wing.

Chapter 168 summary: Grace stands tall with her other cousin, and begins to rain lightning down on everything. This scatters all of Cyrus’s followers, who no longer wish to have anything to do with her, whatsoever.

Grace then uses her newfound powers to take the power that Cyrus had stolen from her friends, and puts it back inside of them. She thought that it would be difficult to distinguish, but each power is as unique as its owner, which makes sense. Lastly, she puts the power back inside of Izzy and Delilah, saying that they might be evil, but holy shit. Nobody deserves to have their magic stolen.

Her wing then grows back, to the surprise of nobody but Grace.

Chapter 169

“Move, and I will liquify your bones again,” Hudson growls. “That was fun, wasn’t it, asshole?”

Except that the time freeze keeping Cyrus tied to the gargoyles has been not only severed, but also rectified. This time, Cyrus can 100% be killed.

Then he leans close and whispers in my ear, “Your Army has arrived, my queen.”

Chapter 169 summary: Grace is so startled that her wing grew back that she has to fly around for a second to make sure that it’s real.

She then stops Cyrus from harming Hudson by causing a huge storm to blast him around. He yells for his guards to seize them, but what’s left of his army seems confused by what’s going on. Finally, they stop being so confused, and begin to fight again.

Right when things start to seem dire, the gargoyle army finally decides to show up.

Chapter 170

We have our orders, he tells them as he takes to the air. Tonight, we will vanquish the enemy.

Chapter 170 summary: Grace is startled, since not even a few hours earlier, Chastain had basically told Grace to fuck off. Now they’re here, and Chastain is bending his knee to her. He asks for his orders, so Grace looks over to Cyrus. She tells him that Cyrus has been defeated, and it’s time that his followers understand that.

Chastain says that he’ll send some people to guard her, but Grace says no. That she could never live with herself if anybody got her protecting her. That she can take care of herself.

Chapter 171

I reach out and scoop every single string against my chest in a blink. And when I think I have every single string, I brush my hand against my green string—and freeze Cyrus and everyone in his army instantly.

Chapter 171 summary: Grace and her friends stand back and watch the literal war unfolding before their eyes. Yes, they’ve been fighting, but with the inclusion of the gargoyle army, this is war at its most basic element.

Eventually, Grace takes the strings of all of her friends and army, and freezes time for Cyrus and his army.

⚠️Request rules⚠️

1; Be specific and unique

For example, the prompt "Sole dies". All characters would be sad, or angry. But the prompt, "Companions travel through a haunted forest and lose each other" has a lot of ways it can go. Vague prompts can be difficult for me to write, as there's often not much to write. Or if there is, it ends up feeling samey, or too short. There's only so much I can write about Sole dying.

Some prompts are answered in canon, and don't need to be answered. For example, Companions react to Sole speaking like the Silver Shroud. You can easily go on a wiki or find a compilation video on YouTube.

Also, I prefer to write about the companions, not Sole. So, requests about the Sole Survivor are likely to sit in the inbox for a while.

2; Be mindful of dark subject matter

Guys. You know miscarriage is a real thing, right? A horrible, traumatic thing that fucks up entire families? And same with rape, or abuse, or anything like that. Use your best judgement asking about heavier topics. These things aren't scenarios to generate angst. They're traumatic events. That real people go through.

I'll never forget following a react blog who was asked to write about miscarriage, only for them to apologize and refuse, as they had suffered multiple miscarriages themselves.

Rule 3; No fetishes or second-hand embarrassment prompts

So, I said be specific and weird...not with your own fetishs, please.

For non fetish stuff, I really do not care for toilet humor. Or anything meant to evoke second-hand embarrassment. This is another 'use best judgement'. I'm very easily grossed out by body fluids/excrement and there's no prompt that I'm willing to do with it.

RELATIONSHIP TO GREER: Boiled down, their relationship should be easy to understand: cousins. But everyone knows that family is complicated to say the least—Greer and Pippa are no different. They were always fire and ice, polar opposites, two very different sides of the same coin. Being cousins and around the same age, Pippa and Greer were always shoved together at family events. Pippa never felt like she was out of place for being adopted into the Morrison family. Although Pippa always got along better with Greer’s younger sister, there was something about Greer that always seemed to irk her—possibly that her parents were always trying to get her to emulate Greer to a degree. Pippa was very much irritated by Greer’s more bubbly personality and ability to walk into a room and charm anyone she talked to. Since their parents threw them together, Pippa used it as an excuse to compete with her cousin. While she wasn’t always successful at besting Greer, Pippa was always right on Greer’s heels when it came to what she attempted. As a child, she never really cared about being compared to Greer, but as she grew older, she realized that she and Greer didn’t have anything in common, nor did Pippa really want them to. Pippa had always been slightly jealous of Greer’s sunshiny natures because Pippa was the opposite: quiet and cold. But Pippa could always see behind Greer’s friendly attitude and see the trouble that would cause later down the line. Pippa might have always seemed distant from people, but unlike Greer, she used that as a shield to keep people from getting too close to her. Greer was always someone Pippa used as an example of what not to do because in Pippa’s eyes, she knew that one day Greer would get hurt. Their relationship, like every family, was complicated and there were days that Pippa hated Greer, while there were other days when she felt sorry for her. Though family was family—and Pippa knew that Greer’s reputation had everything to do with her own. So she ruled with her iron fist and fear, while she let Greer charm her way. Sometimes picking up the pieces that her cousin dropped along the way. If Pippa wasn’t so critical and competitive of her cousin, the two might have made a good pair together.

PLEASE EXPAND ON HOW THEY EMBODY THEIR SKELETON TROPE. Pippa was raised under the idea that children should be seen, not heard. Her parents were strict with her, having a very specific idea of what children ought to be like. That isn’t to say her family was awful to her in any way, but they did have a very authoritarian way of raising her. For the most part, Pippa was an easy child. She followed in her mother’s footsteps, choosing to hold her emotions back unless very necessary because in her eyes, emotions were how people got in trouble. Pippa always saw the way people in her social circle spoke too: critical of everyone around her. As the adopted daughter of her parents, they were even more critical of her. Whatever she did would reflect on her parents and in turn reflect on the rest of her family, so Pippa has always tried to take anything people have said to her with a grain of salt, letting the hateful comments slide off her shoulders rather than get to her. If she ever showed how much people got to her, then she would have broken a long time ago. Despite the cold demeanor that Pippa has, she can be quite warm when she wants to be. Philippa Grant was born to Augustus Grant and Cecelia Grant (nee Lloyd) on a rainy March 5th in Manhattan, NYC. Augustus was the CEO of an up and coming marketing and PR company that worked with a lot of publishing companies and the media. For the first year of Pippa's life, her father was healthy, but on her second birthday, he passed away from a rapid condition with his heart. After his death, all the shares of his company were signed over to Cecelia until Pippa turned twenty-five and could take over the company or sell it if she wished.

A year after her husband's death, Cecelia remarried. Sterling Morrison, for the most part, was a good step father and with it came even more money and social standing. He also came with more family. Both Cecelia and Augustus had been only children. Pippa had grown up with only grandparents and no cousins her own age until Sterling. She had never known her birth father and while Pippa had the photos of him, Sterling was her father. He officially adopted her at the age of five. They stated a family of three, despite efforts to have a second child.

The Morrison-Grant family was constantly in the social spotlight, which meant that Pippa grew up hearing about all her flaws. She knew her parents wanted the best for her and so she tried her best not to step out of line in order to make them proud. Pippa knew that people would always be critical of her and her mother. She heard constantly rumors about her mother and their place within the elite of New York City. Unlike some people, Pippa took all the rumors with grace; mean comments and rumors about her spread through New York like wildfire, yet she grew only managed to grow stronger each day. Nothing could phase her, no matter how awful the comment was.

Since she was constantly in the spotlight because of her family, Pippa knew the pressures of growing up in the Morrison family. Not only were her parents relying on her to keep the name in a positive light. It was never said out loud, but Pippa knew that her parents wanted her to sell the shares of Augustus's company and do something new, which is why she set the goal to become a doctor when she was still in high school. Her parents were thrilled and assumed that Pippa was happy with the choice, even if it was somewhat pressured by her parents.

Pippa attended a private school in New York, along side other socialites. School was something that Pippa always excelled at without much prompting from her parents. Being around books rather than other people—especially the ones that always seemed to spread rumors about her family—was more her style than socializing with other people. Pippa never felt excluded because of who her family was and it almost became something if she chose a person to be in her social circle. She created her own little social scene at school, mostly surrounding herself with people are driven and competitive as she was in academic and extracurricular activities at her school.

As much as Pippa wanted to immediately go off to college after graduating high school, her parents let her take a gap year before going to Ogden. Pippa doesn't talk much about her time in Europe, except for the public parts of it—the philanthropy that she publicly posted online. Even her real social media is devoid of any information about her trip. After her trip was over, Pippa was expected to join her cousins at Ogden, which she was happy to do. Ogden might not have been her first choice because of Greer, but it was a good college and she wanted only the best for herself if she was planning on going to medical school.

Freshman year at Ogden was mostly her trying to carve her own path aside from the one that Greer had already begun to create. There were people that thought because of her relationship to the golden girl, they could get close to Greer, but Pippa made it clear to everyone that she was her own person and that she wasn't the person to get close to in order to be around Gerer. In fact, Pippa's first year at Ogden was mostly dedicated to her academic pursuits. Money and legacy might have been the reason that she got into Ogden, but it would not be the reason she was remembered. Pippa may be a Morrison, however she is also a Grant.

Chapter 164

As I do, Cyrus does perhaps the most Cyrus thing ever. He turns on Delilah and Izzy and shouts for the guards to seize them, too.

Delilah goes kicking and screaming—it takes three guards to control her —but Izzy just looks at him with steady, unblinking eyes as they drag her away.

To the surprise of literally nobody.

Oh my God. How can he do this? We have a contract!

The dude is literally sacrificing his own wife and daughter. You think that he gives a shit about anything other than himself?

And we all get to watch—some in jubilation, some in horror—as a monster becomes a god.

Chapter 164 summary: The guards grab Grace’s friends, who are determined to go down fighting. To the surprise of nobody, Cyrus also orders Delilah and Izzy taken as well. Grace is then forced to watch in horror as the god ring starts zapping her friends with lightning.

Chapter 165

Maybe it was never going to be enough. Maybe that’s the lesson I need to learn from all this. You win some, you lose some. I just never thought we’d lose this big.

Chapter 165 summary: Grace watches with horror as Cyrus transforms into something else.

Chapter 166

Who bound their power in order to placate someone else who was afraid of what they had inside them. I am not afraid. And I will not hide anymore.

Chapter 166 summary: Completely and utterly out of options, Grace decides that now’s probably the best time to use her god string. So she does. It’s still coated with the magic tears, and as she holds onto it, something begins to blossom.

Cyrus might have stripped her power in order to become a god, but she’s also a demi-god in her own right. There’s more to her than her gargoyle powers, after all. The thing inside of her blooms into a tree, and she uses her newfound magic to pulse life back into Hudson, since their string is the strongest. Then, she pulses life back into her friends, who are also connected to her via strings as well.

Chapter 167

I laugh. “Baby, it means we get to fuck all the shit up.”

Chapter 167 summary: Grace opens her eyes and Cyrus realises that something’s happened. She makes vines grow all over his energy-draining machine, and Cyrus mocks her. He toys with her a little before Grace begins to show him that she’s way more powerful than he can ever begin to imagine.

She turns to Izzy, who likely has more power than Grace, and asks if she’s ready to fuck her shitty bio-dad up. Izzy agrees, if only because her father betrayed her.

Biography: (tw: military, PTSD, postpartum psychosis, child abuse, suicide)

Isadora never really knew her biological parents. Or rather, she doesn’t remember much about them; both of them were out of the picture by the time she was 5 years old.

Her father, Elijah Burk, was in the army, in and out of the house for long periods of time whenever he was deployed. Her mother, Norah, was a former teacher who had never truly recovered from childbirth. Though she tried, Norah was unable to form a strong emotional connection with her daughter. A few weeks after Izzy was born, Norah began experiencing auditory hallucinations, telling her erroneous reasons why she couldn’t connect. Some of the reasons were absurd, such as the child being a demon sent to punish her for past sins. Though she had gone to get help at Elijah’s insistence, when he was sent out on his final deployment, she had stopped taking her medication. Elijah’s last assignment in the Gulf War saw him honorably discharged following an incident that resulted in a major traumatic brain injury. Though he’d gone through rehabilitation efforts, he never fully recovered his capacity to function without assistance and was institutionalized at an assisted living facility.

Stricken by the grief of losing her husband, dealing with untreated mental illness, and the growing resentment towards her daughter for the perceived notion she’d ruined Norah’s life, the formerly loving woman began to act on her delusions, mistreating Izzy by purposefully not feeding her, depriving her of basic necessities like proper hygiene, in an attempt to drive the demon from her daughter. When these tactics didn’t work, she began to beat the young girl. One of the beatings was so bad that Izzy ended up in the hospital after a neighbor overheard the cries and called the police. Izzy lost most of the hearing in her left ear as a result. Norah was charged with child endangerment, abuse and neglect of a child, and a few other charges, but she never saw any time behind bars for what she’d done; she committed suicide before she was given her sentence.

With no family available to take Izzy in, she was put into the foster care system. The transition was difficult for her at first, but her experience with her mother had hardly dulled her shine. She would eventually befriend everyone and show them kindness, so she was often one of the favorites in whatever foster home she went to which caused conflict with some of the other children. She was in three different homes in her short time in the foster system when the Santiago family adopted her at the age of 6. At the time, it was only her and Matias, Reina being adopted about a year later. Although it took a little while for her to warm up to the idea of being in a new family and move past the trauma she had experienced only a year before, she was ecstatic to have two older siblings and loving parents. She followed her brother and sister around all the time growing up, mirroring them like a young duckling.

The family moved to Tonopah Falls when she was 10 years old. The adjustment took a bit, having to leave behind friends she’d made in New Orleans, but she came to view Tonopah as her hometown faster than the others. On a dare from some high school friends, Izzy entered a modeling competition. She didn’t believe she’d win, but she ended up getting second place and catching the notice of a talent scout. After a conversation with her parents about the responsibility of managing her time between school and modeling, she began to make her way in the industry there in the Vegas area. She worked significantly more throughout her early and mid-twenties, but she’s since taken a step back from modeling full-time to re-evaluate her career path.

Headcannons:

Izzy has a hearing aid for her left ear. While it doesn’t completely fix her hearing, it does make it easier for her to hear out of that ear.

She’s very much an optimist in spite of what she’s gone through in life. She actively tries to find the silver lining in every situation.

Although she’s generally a very happy and sunshine-y person, she’s still Matias’s younger sister, which means she’s been taught how to shoot and to handle a knife, among other self-defense tactics. Although she’d prefer to handle things differently, she’s able to kill a man if necessary.

She initially started modeling in the hopes it would help her experience more that life had to offer outside of Tonopah, but now she’s not so sure it’s what she wants to do for the rest of her life.

(death tw) Pippa’s father passed away when she was two years old in an accident. He was the CEO of a marketing and PR company. After his death, the shares of the company were signed over to his wife, who would hold half of them until Pippa turned twenty-five.

When Pippa was three, her mother remarried Sterling Morrison. He officially adopted her at the age of five. She doesn’t remember her birth father, though she does have photos of him and was very vocal about her adoption.

She grew up with a strong sense of who she was supposed to be when she got older. While her parents let her explore other interests, Pippa knew that she was expected to choose between lawyer and doctor. Despite her moral sense, she chose doctor, although it isn’t what she wanted to do.

Pippa attended a private school in New York, along side other socialites and because her mother was rich even before she married a Morrison, Pippa wasn’t ever excluded. In fact, in her own way, she ruled her own little social scene in her college.

She took a gap year between high school and college, going off to Europe for a year to get a break from school before heading off to Ogden. Pippa does not talk about her time in Europe with anyone and even her real social media is devoid of any information about her trip.

Freshman year at Ogden was mostly just her trying to carve her own path aside from Greer’s. She joined the cheer squad, equestrian team, and ballet in her freshman year, staying as far away from Greer’s interests as possible.
