The Best Thanksgiving TV Episodes

Halloween and Christmas are objectively the two best American holidays. One allows for us all to indulge in our gothic, spooky side, while the other comes along with family and cheer (forced or otherwise). There’s another holiday between them, however, that is at constant risk of being overlooked.

Thanksgiving doesn’t have candy like Halloween or presents like Christmas. What it does have, thankfully, is television. Just like its Halloween counterpart, Thanksgiving comes along in the fall at an important time in the TV schedule. Traditionally, the last week of November is when many network TV shows are looking for a quick boost of creative and commercial energy to get through the Christmas break. And what better way than to do so than with a Thanksgiving episode, where all characters are basically culturally required to get together?

Though Halloween and Christmas specials often get the most attention, there are many fascinating Thanksgiving-themed episodes of popular TV shows. Here are just some of our favorites.

Bob’s Burgers

Season 3 Episode 5 – “An Indecent Thanksgiving Proposal”

Fox’s beloved animated series has staked its claim to Thanksgiving as its holiday of choice, which makes sense given that the Belcher clan takes their food quite seriously. Of the many Bob’s Burgers Thanksgiving specials, season 3’s “An Indecent Thanksgiving Proposal” is likely the best.

This episode finds Bob reluctantly agreeing to “rent out” his family to landlord Calvin Fischoeder (voiced by Kevin Kline) to pose as his family for Thanksgiving dinner while Bob poses as the family chef. While this is a strong enough set up to begin with, the episode excels at escalation and goes to some wild places – even indulging one of the series’ favorite recurring gags of Bob losing his mind and befriending an inanimate object. Of course the inanimate object this time around is none other than a Thanksgiving turkey.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Season 5 Episode 7 – “Two Turkeys”

“Two Turkeys” is a prime example of what makes Thanksgiving such a creatively rich holiday for sitcoms and other serialized TV endeavors to exploit. Brooklyn Nine-Nine had already long established that both Jake (Andy Samberg) and Amy’s (Melissa Fumero) respective parents were crazy. All that was left to do was to get them in the same room together.

That’s just what “Two Turkeys” does. The whole family, including Jake’s dad Roger (Bradley Whitford), Amy’s dad Victor (Jimmy Smits), and Amy’s mom Camila (Bertila Dama), decides to have Thanksgiving at Jake’s mom Karen’s (Katey Sagal) house. Quickly, dueling Thanksgiving turkeys are set up, competitive juices start flowing, and a thumb or two is lost. “Two Turkeys” is Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s best Thanksgiving episode but “Mr. Santiago” in which Boyle intends to behead a live turkey certainly gives it a run for its money.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Season 4 Episode 8 – “Pangs”

Most TV Thanksgiving specials ignore the complicated origins of the holiday…and perhaps wisely so. For a long time, most sitcoms and network dramas lacked a real capacity to carefully discuss Thanksgiving myth-making while also addressing Native American genocide.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, however, had no such misgivings and dives right in. “Pangs” is technically the beginning of a Buffy/Angel two-hour Thanksgiving event. It’s got all the usual Thanksgiving episode trappings: food, friends, and family. It also has an army of Chumash Indian Warriors coming back from the grave to punish Sunnydale for its colonial sins.

Chuck

Season 4 Episode 10 – “Chuck Versus the Leftovers”

This is cheating a bit as “Chuck Versus the Leftovers” technically takes place on the day after Thanksgiving. But Black Friday shopping and turkey leftovers are certainly a part of the Thanksgiving experience.

This episode finds Chuck’s mom Mary (Linda Hamilton) and international arms dealer Alexei Volkoff (Timothy Dalton) coming over to Chuck’s place for a day-after-Thanksgiving leftover feast. Meanwhile Chuck’s friends at Buy More have to contend with the Black Friday shopping crowd. This is the definitive Chuck Thanksgiving episode as it highlights what the show does well. It balances the high-octane drama of Chuck’s spy life with his supposedly tranquil home life. Getting to enjoy Linda Hamilton and Timothy Dalton going head to head is just icing on the Jell-O salad.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Season 1 Episode 12 – “Talking Turkey”

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air features a few Thanksgiving episodes over its six season run but its first attempt remains the best. Will’s mom Viola makes one of her rare series appearances here when she joins the Banks’ household for Thanksgiving.

After the parents see how the kids mistreat everyone’s beloved butler Geoffrey, the gang is forced to cook a Thanksgiving meal on their own. Predictably it doesn’t go well. This is a big episode for all involved but for Viola and Aunt Viv in particular. It’s fascinating to watch through a modern lens, given original Aunt Viv actress Janet Hubert’s steadfast lack of involvement in all future Fresh Prince reboots and reunions.

Friday Night Lights

Season 4 Episode 13 – “Thanksgiving”

So many of the best moments in Friday Night Lights happen at the Taylor family dinner table. How then could the show pass up an opportunity for a good-old fashioned Thanksgiving episode?

“Thanksgiving” is an excellent episode that also serves as its respective season’s finale. This hour concludes Coach Taylor’s first year with the East Dillon Lions in truly satisfying fashion. Before that there’s still plenty of time for a heart-to-heart with QB Vince Howard and Buddy Garrity’s attempts at frying a turkey.

Friends

Season 5 Episode 8 – “The One With All the Thanksgivings”

Perhaps no series on television took the responsibility of Thanksgiving episodes more seriously than Friends. Friends has so many Thanksgiving-themed episodes that the entire list could essentially be made up of them. And that makes sense given the show’s premise of friends as a found family in the big city.

For the purposes of this list, however, let’s go with the aptly-named “The One With All the Thanksgivings.” In this fifth season episode, Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Monica, Joey, and Chandler flashback to all of the Thanksgivings they’ve shared together. Consider this a Canterbury Tales of Thanksgiving … that just happens to feature Monica with a turkey on her head.

Gilmore Girls

Season 3 Episode 9 – “A Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving”

Stars Hollow, Connecticut on Gilmore Girls just looks like a town itching for a good fall holiday. The New England hamlet is the kind of place that absolutely lights up with some fallen leaves and the warm aroma of turkey in the oven. Thankfully, the show agreed and rolled out a Thanksgiving-centric episode in its third season.

“A Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving” adopts the tried and true “accepted too many dates to the ball” trope as Lorelai and Rory are pulled among four competing Thanksgiving dinners: Lorelai’s parents, Sookie, Luke, and Lane. It’s a jam-packed (and tofurkey-packed) episode that still somehow finds the time to introduce the beloved Cat Kirk.

How I Met Your Mother

Season 3 Episode 9 – “Slapsgiving”

In many ways, How I Met Your Mother was the natural sitcom successor to Friends. Like its NBC forefather CBS’s comedy followed a group of friends living their best lives in New York City. Another area in which HIMYM picks up the Friends ball and runs with it is with its appropriately respectful treatment of Thanksgiving.

How I Met Your Mother loves itself a good Thanksgiving episode. None of them, however, are better than the season 3 installment “Slapsgiving.” This episode finds the gang gathering at Marshall and Lily’s house for their first Thanksgiving as a married couple. Meanwhile, Barney is living in mortal fear of the third slap Marshall owes him due to losing a “slap bet.” That countdown to The Slap imbues an already excellent episode with a real fun sense of urgency.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Season 9 Episode 10 – “The Gang Squashes Their Beefs”

Dennis, Dee, Charlie, Mac, and Frank have made a lot of enemies during It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s very long, very creatively lucrative run. That’s why for the show’s ninth season finale, the gang decided to gather several of the folks they wronged together and get to squashing some beefs. And what better way to do so than with a nice Thanksgiving dinner?

This installment is a one big setup to a dinner table with the gang’s rogue’s gallery at the end and it is all well worth the wait. Some dry turkey and even dryer conservation is nowhere near enough to make nice with the McPoyles, Hwang, Cricket, Gail the Snail, or Bill Ponderosa, but bless the gang for trying anyway.

Mad Men

Season 1 Episode 13 – “The Wheel”

Not many Thanksgiving episodes can lay claim to being their respective series best hours, but then again AMC’s all-time classic Mad Men isn’t just any other series. Season 1 finale “The Wheel” is certainly among the best Mad Men installments ever and it just so happens to take place during the week of Thanksgiving 1960.

The Thanksgiving timeframe serves as an elegiac backdrop and Mad Men viewers are forced to confront what kind of man Don Draper really is. Don delivers the pitch of his lifetime to Kodak executives as he urges them to imagine their latest photo wheel creation not as a sleek, dispassionate time machine, but a carousel that can bring families back home to all the most important times of their lives. Then when Don returns home for Thanksgiving, he discovers what he probably already knew – those times are gone and no carousel can bring them back.

Master of None

Season 2 Episode 8 – “Thanksgiving”

OK, we know we just said that not many Thanksgiving episodes can lay claim to being their respective series’ best but here is another contender. “Thanksgiving” is the eighth episode of Master of None’s second (and thus far, final) season and it’s a perfect example of everything the show does well.

This episode takes a break from Dev’s (Aziz Ansari) storyline in the present to delve into the past of his friend Denise (Lena Waithe). Over several Thanksgiving meals throughout the years, Denise comes to realize her attraction to women, processes it, and does her best to communicate her identity to her mom (Angela Bassett). It’s a touching saga made possible by the Thanksgiving season. It also serves as many viewers’ introduction to the storytelling dynamo that is Lena Waithe.

The O.C.

Season 1 Episode 11 – “The Homecoming”

Mid-2000s teen drama The O.C. always paid proper respect to holidays. Who could forget the Cohen family’s dutiful observation of “Chrismukkah?” But the series’ first Thanksgiving installment in season 1 might just be its best holiday offering ever.

“The Homecoming” is a wonderful example of everything that The O.C. does well. The plot splits itself in two with Ryan (Ben McKenzie) and Marissa (Mischa Barton) heading back to Ryan’s hometown of Chino to meet Ryan’s brother in prison. That sets up a ludicrous crime arc that would make even the Riggins brothers of Friday Night Lights jealous. Meanwhile, back at the Cohen household, Seth’s (Adam Brody) inelegant juggling of the two women in his life comes to a chaotic head.

Orange is the New Black

Season 1 Episode 9 – “Fucksgiving”

Orange is the New Black’s Thanksgiving episode debuted all the way back in 2013, when Netflix was just proving itself to be a spot for original content. So imagine viewers’ surprise that in the streaming world, you can include the F-word in episode titles.

As is the case in every OITNB episode, a lot happens in this hour-long installment. But with Thanksgiving as the backdrop, there’s a real festive air to the proceedings. Perhaps it helps that Taystee (Danielle Brooks) is set to be released and returned to the real world or that Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning) is praying for the rightful end of said real world. In any case, “Fucksgiving” passionate conclusion makes a convincing case that Thanksgiving is among the sexiest of holidays.

Riverdale

Season 4 Episode 7 – “The Ice Storm”

Riverdale’s Thanksgiving episode is about just as insane as one would imagine a Riverdale Thanksgiving episode would be. “The Ice Storm” (which borrows its name and concept from Rick Moody’s 1994 novel of the same name) finds Jughead and Betty stranded at Stonewall Prep due to an ice storm on Thanksgiving while Archie hosts a Thanksgiving dinner at the community center.

Of course this episode features cartoonish levels of scheming, but it also takes the responsibility of the holiday seriously. Riverdale spends the episode’s opening once again addressing the tragic death of Luke Perry and his character, Fred Andrews. Amid all the plot twists, the show still excels at putting family first.

Seinfeld

Season 6 Episode 8 – “The Mom and Pop Store”

Many episodes of Seinfeld feature dense plotting, but even by those standards “The Mom and Pop Store” is a very busy episode of television. These 22 minutes feature Jerry getting tricked by a mom and pop shoe store, George trying to find Jon Voight, and Kramer having some major nosebleed problems.

But the Thanksgiving portion of the episode is what stands out as Elaine gets the invite to Jerry’s dentist’s (played by none other than Bryan Cranston, beginning his fruitful arc of Seinfeld guest appearances) Thanksgiving. Jerry is unsure if he himself is invited, but when dental issues begin to pop up, he decides that a Thanksgiving dinner full of dentists might be a useful place to stop by.

Smallville

Season 6 Episode 7 – “Rage”

While it was cruel for Smallville to wait until after the Jonathan Kent era to hold its first Thanksgiving episode, it’s nice that it got around to it all the same. Granted, Thanksgiving doesn’t factor much into “Rage.” Instead much of the hour deals with Clark assisting his good friend Oliver Queen with his mysterious addiction.

But when the Thanksgiving table moment finally does arrive, it’s a real winner. In terms of pre-Arrowverse WB/CW warm and fuzzies, it’s hard to top a dinner featuring Clark Kent, Martha Kent, Lionel Luther, and Green-freaking-Arrow. And of course the presence of NXIVM’s own Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan just adds a strange glow over all.

The Sopranos

Season 3 Episode 8 – “He Is Risen”

Many classic Sopranos scenes take place around the Sopranos family dinner table (mostly so Tony can yell at the insufferable A.J.). It’s only natural then that the show would feature a Thanksgiving episode at some point during its classic six-season run.

That moment comes midway through the excellent season 3. Granted, Thanksgiving doesn’t play a major role in this hour, aside from Janice’s creepy elderly boyfriend muttering “he is risen” during dinner. But this episode is filled with classic Sopranos moments all the same: the introduction of Gloria Trillo, the death of Gigi Cestone on the toilet, and Ralph’s continued seasons-long efforts to dig his own grave. All of those events will factor heavily in the episodes to come, for now, however, The Sopranos is happy to just pass the gravy (actual gravy, not red sauce).

South Park

Over the span of its staggering 23 seasons (plus one Pandemic Special), South Park has revealed a real affinity for holiday episodes, particularly the Christmas ones in which the show can feature longtime characters Santa Claus and Jesus Christ.

In this season 15 episode, however, South Park turns its satirical eye to Thanksgiving…or the History Channel version of it more accurately and weirdly. After the boys are assigned a paper on the history of Thanksgiving, they watch the History Channel to discover that the holiday’s origins are far more extraterrestrial than expected. Soon, Stan and company are involved in an interdimensional Thanksgiving adventure involving wormholes and Natalie Portman.

The West Wing

Season 2 Episode 8 – “Shibboleth”

A “Shibboleth” is a long-standing tradition or custom (often a phrasing or even a single word) that distinguishes one group of people from another. The best episodes of The West Wing seek to understand what the shibboleths of this strange country are…and “Shibboleth” is undoubtedly one of the series’ best episodes.

It’s the night before Thanksgiving at the White House and the West Wing staff are all facing decisions. It’s a typically hectic day in the West’s most powerful executive office, but the show explores how one holiday can bring all the chaos to a halt. For a little bit at least.

hey there! i'm currently in the mood for some intense and action-packed roleplays chock-full of mature themes. something really fucked up. you know, the good stuff. about me:

i love writing about mature topics so please be at least 18+, preferably 20+. i am pretty good about churning out at least three replies a week consistently, but can also do multiple replies a day if there's a spark between us. i would really like if you could post at least once a week-- the more, the better, but i'll never put pressure on you to respond within a certain time frame. my preference is to write over email, but if google docs is more your jam, i'm down with that too. i only roleplay original plotlines, but am open to worlds that are inspired by certain fandoms. if you already have a plot in mind, go ahead and shoot me an email with a summary! i would love to hear about it. here are some genres i'm really craving right now in no particular order:

urban fantasy; a secret underbelly of all manner of supernatural creatures who are all forced to live together in one city, among mortals who may or may not be ignorant of their existence in some capacity or another.

southern gothic; give me your swamps, abandoned plantation houses, families hiding dark secrets, old dusty roads, and haunting histories.

science fiction; whether it's set twenty minutes into the future, or several thousand. whether it's more fantasy based (like star wars) or more technologically based (like star trek.) i'm flexible!

post-apocalyptic; has humanity begun to rebuild in the face of insert-apocalypse-of-choice-here, or are they on the edge of extinction? how have people managed to cope and adapt to this changing world? could literally be any type of apocalypse you want.

police drama; can also be combined with other genres; i love the overused trope of a new detective coming into town, thrown into a situation they know nothing about. gimme gimme

mafia inspired; a hitman falls for the target he is meant to kill; alternatively, a mafia boss falls for the young, innocent ingenue. or perhaps an undercover cop travels a little too far into the seedy underworld of criminals.

word bank: power struggles, forbidden romance, toxic and tumultuous relationships, tales of betrayal, tales of revenge, drug/alcohol abuse, repressed feelings, a slow burn, unresolved sexual tension, big burly men with soft emotional cores, women who hide daggers up their sleeves, enemies to lovers, love turned to hate, broken hearts and broken minds. if you don't see your preferred genre here, don't be afraid to ask if i'd be willing to try something out. i'm sure there's plenty i forgot! i also love combining genres, as well. as far as pairings are concerned-- i am comfortable with writing any kind of pairing, but currently have a huuuge craving for the gay stuff. m// or f//, i don't care, pls give it to me. i'm fine writing for any gender. i am also partial to large casts of characters, plenty of worldbuilding, and multiple subplots. romance is essential. this is one thing i won't compromise on. i'm a hopeless romantic at heart and developing a relationship between characters is one of my favorite parts of writing, plain and simple. that doesn't mean i want to sacrifice the plot for the sake of romance, but overall i prefer plots that are character driven. i'm also cool with doubling! i also love to use face claims, but real people only, please. i don't like using anime FCs. creating playlists and sharing images/quotes that remind us of our characters is another thing i love to do. i love getting into their minds and exploring that with the person i'm writing with ooc almost as much as i love the actual writing portion! that said, please give me your manner of all kinds of fucked up characters. i would adore to write against them. onto limits. i don't have any hard limits beyond the usual-- no underage smut, no intense rape scenes or sexual assault, etc. violence, gore, and language don't bother me in the least, and neither does prolific drug or alcohol use. writing smut as a way to relate the emotional intensity of characters' relationships is something i enjoy doing, so if you're not cool with any kind of smut, then unfortunately we're probably not compatible. please let me know what your limits are and i will do everything in my power to accommodate them! i place very high value on open and easy communication with my partners. i would love to get to know you and be friends! please don't be shy, i certainly don't bite. is that everything? i think that might be everything. if any of this has piqued your interest, feel free to drop me an email at [email protected]. if we click, i'll send you my discord tag and we can get to plotting! happy hunting!!

It means nothing to me… OH VIENNA! - October 2019 Part 3 of 3

I lifted my head off the pillow and immediately the night before came rushing back to me in vivid Technicolor. My mouth was dry and the scent of hops and alcoholic ethers was strong. I dropped my head back onto the pillow and groaned. Today was going to be rough. Like the gallant hero that he is, Tom rose like the undead and put clothes on. He said he was going to the pub to check the lost and found. He returned about half an hour later empty-handed, but with a cut on his hand on a stray rusty nail in the lost property box. To show my gratitude, I feebly slithered out of bed as a show of my own strength.

Out on the street we stopped about a block from the apartment for a much-needed coffee from a little cafe. We wrote postcards and I called my dad. It was his birthday the day before, but I missed the window of opportunity to call. My voice was hoarse as I recounted what we had got up to the night before. After I hung up from my folks, we finished the coffee and the postcards, before heading back towards Stephansdom. It was noticeably quiet for mid-morning, especially considering it was a Saturday. After passing the second block of closed shops, I did a quick search on my phone to discover that it was Austrian National Day. That would explain why the flights were extra cheap for this particular weekend.

Secretly hoping that nothing would be open and we would just have to go back to the apartment (where I could bask in what was shaping up to be a slow, agonising death of a hangover), we carried on up towards the cathedral. Along the way, glinting from the corner of the main strausser, was Swarovski Kristalwelten. People were going in and out, so we approached for a look - it would be rude not to! Inside, on three floors, was the mother of all Swarovski shops with a basement museum/gallery. We wandered around for about half an hour and I ended up with a little touristy delight. It was a little box filled to the brim with crystal beads in all manner of colours and sizes.

At a loose end, Tom suggested we go and get breakfast. We found a little coffee lounge and went in. It was almost a parody of itself, with morning people lingering over their newspapers and drinking their fancy coffees - so Viennese! We plotted what our options were for the day. Tom mentioned that somewhere on the other side of town was an art building that he wanted to see, so that was a possibility. When we exited the cafe, we noticed that there signs pointing towards Mozarthaus, a museum in a house that Mozart once lived. On the chance that it might be open, we headed off in that direction.

No photos were allowed inside (but I snuck one in the hallway to give a sense of what we were in for), but it likely wouldn’t have made a difference. The rooms were mostly empty, with patrons experiencing the house through the audio guide handed out at the start of the tour. The pressure from the headset alleviated the throbbing in my skull as a British man narrated the life and times of Mozart in 18th Century Vienna. Around each room were one or two spectacles; in one the iconic red coat that Mozart wore - which turns out to have belonged to a female acquaintance. Amadeus had spotted her at the opera and later wrote saying that he had some lovely shiny gold buttons that would make it sing, and that she should give it to him. Further towards the end were puppet shows and projections, all depicting the operas that Mozart wrote.

We went back to the apartment for a spell, while Tom worked out where would go to next. I buried my head into the pillow and suggested that the next stop should definitely include Panadol. Working out that it was only a short fifteen minute walk, I mustered every ounce of strength and hauled myself up for the second leg of the day.

The walk was actually quite pleasant. We walked down back streets of palatial houses and crossed a bridge over the Danube. When we arrived at the Hundertwasser House, it was truly something to behold. Originally a tyre factory, the building had been converted into apartments for low income households. The decoration on the building and the surrounding streets can only be described as creative chaos. Mosaic as far as the eye could see and not a single straight line in sight - Hundertwasser had an aversion to them, describing them as such:

The straight line is godless and immoral. The straight line leads to the downfall of society.

Today we live in a chaos of straight lines, in a jungle of straight lines. If you do not believe this, take the trouble to count the straight lines which surround you. Then you will understand, for you will never finish counting.

Across from the Hundertwasser house in a little artist village, full of shops and more of the same style of arts and crafts. It was built by a collective and serves as a bit of a shrine to the Hundertwasser philosophy. Tom bought a bottle of water and some paracetamol, so I took the opportunity to neck a couple (and the entire bottle of water). I was determined to be present for the day! We wandered around the little boutiques in the artist village for as long as it took for the water to work it’s way through my system. I needed a wee, so we headed down some stairs to find a beautiful fountain and one of the wackiest public toilets I have come across to date. Aside from the wacky and disconcerting mosaic tiling (although I wasn’t convinced it wasn’t just my melting brain) there was a looping audio documentary about the lifecycle of faeces.

We did a repeat of dinner back at Alt Wien, which was becoming a regular haunt for our little trip. I was feeling much better for having soldiered on with the day but I could only manage one pint of beer. After we finished and walked back towards the apartment, the bells of Stephansdom rang out into the still warm night air. Because all of the buildings are so close and the streets quite narrow, the sound ricocheted and reverberated around like a harmonious singing bowl. We followed the luring sound and ended up at the church. Realising that it was still open, we took one of the final opportunities to see it before we left Vienna.

Inside the air was thick with the fog of frankincence. A service had just taken place and the hushed tones of parishioners and tourists making a hasty exit were barely noticeable as we walked against the crowd and into the belly of the gothic Goliath. At the end of the nave was all of the exciting things in the church, but a gate had just been locked. On the other side were a couple of nuns stubbing out candles and getting ready to head back to their cells. We ogled for a little while at some of the dark art on the walls. The European Catholic churches just nail the drama of the whole affair so well.

Back in the apartment, I lay down and poured the contents of my Kristalwelten purchases onto the bedsheet to admire. I felt a sense of triumph to have managed the day, glad that we’d not wasted the opportunity to see so much beauty.

The last day - when we realised Vienna waits for you

The last day was started at Kaffee Alt Wien, where so many of our Viennese adventures began. We had packed our bags and checked out of our apartment with plenty of time to spare. The flight wasn’t until after lunch, so we could finally pace ourselves. I felt like it had taken the whole trip just to reach the optimum point of relaxation. And I knew that our impromptu underground nightclubbing was partly to blame for that.

Knowing that the trip was nearing its end, I scoured the Alt Wien menu for a suitable last supper. Notable mentions were the Hangover Breakfast (a plate of goulash and a small beer) and the Très Chic (espresso and a cigarette - only served until 12 noon). In the end, I opted for the Kaiser’s breakfast, which was listed as:

Kaiser’s Breakfast

Two soft boiled eggs, cottage cheese, peppers (capsicum), organic ham, cheese, jam, honey and biscuits.

It sounded like a meal fit for an emperor and the perfect way to book-end three days of schnitzel, potatoes and beer. When it came out on two plates, accompanied by a basket of bread, I realised I should have opted for the Très Chic! Tom was smart, choosing a simple ham and eggs, which was presented in a cast iron handled skillet. I battled through my entire calorie intake for the day, giving everything a good go. Including the ten slices of cheese down the middle of the plate.

Back in the direction we had started from, we passed the park we’d stopped in at the beginning of the trip. Across the road was the MAK Museum of Design. I had mentioned to Tom that I might like to take a look in there when we passed by days earlier. We struggled to find the office for tickets. In broken English, the ticket seller up sold us to a ticket that included entry into Blickfang, an international design fair. We perused a lot of different exhibits, commenting on the ingenuity of some people, and the charlatanism of others. We hurriedly finished the loop to make sure we had enough time for the MAK.

Although I could have personally spent all day in there, we only had a few hours to kill at the MAK Design Museum. We studied the map with one of the docents and triaged the things we wanted to see. We started in the basement to see a special exhibition about design and technology through the lens of futurism. It was all very high-brow, but there were some very intriguing social commentary pieces about the life and times we find ourselves in and the dystopia we face in the not-too-distant future. Another of the special exhibitions was a collection of elaborate Japanese woodblock prints. There was a mix of traditional and modern, with a couple of notable celebrities worked in - I still regret not buying a print of the Bowie picture!

Back up at ground level I got to experience a surreal immersive experience in a garden based on Klimt’s landscape work. With a VR headset and headphones, I felt like I was walking through a dream about a video game. The rest of the museum was focused on the Vienna Succession of the 1890s and the sumptuous furnishings of the homes of Vienna over the last couple of hundred years. We whipped through an exhibition of Baroque Rococo glass and lace, before we collected our bags and exited through the gift shop. Back on the train to the airport, I sighed and watched as the beauty faded, gave way to suburbia and the reality of drudgery came slowly creeping back.

Since the announcement, game plays and official trailers, DMC 5 is back in town! And I am absolutely crazy about it! I was one of the lucky who got to attend the GC 2018 and play the demo, and admittedly, I am pumped to the core. I am seeking anyone who might be interested in starting an RP based on the series. It doesn’t matter which version or timeline, for I am open to any possibility. I also highly welcome original ideas, alternate plots and OC’s! I have a few ideas myself and would like to discuss them with my new potential partner <3

    When it comes to my writing style and preferences, I will list these things here for you to read.

Writing: I am a multi-paragraph sort of writer, which means that frequently, my writing will exceed at least 500 words, and upward of 1000+ words. I love detail in description, and I am actively seeking someone of the same infamy. Generally, I tend to write in the 3rd person. I’ve also tested the waters of 1st person but found it fairly awkward, if not, jarring so I’d rather keep it with 3rd person.

Pairings: I openly play characters of both genders, preferable m x f pairings, but I am open to m x m and f x f relationships as well. I have more experience with m x f relationships, so I might excel in this category more than I would do with the others. However, like I said, do not let this deter you. Very much open to other sexual orientations and preferences. Romance and intimate erotic scenes are always a part of the story, so if you are someone who prefers fading to black, I am afraid to tell you that my request isn’t something for you. This is not negotiable, sorry.

Characters: Faceclaims, GIFs, drawings, mood boards or just a plain physical description is absolutely welcome / sufficient. I am not someone who necessarily needs a face claim for a character in order ‘to get the picture’. There are many instances where I could not find a suiting match for my character’s definition, so I resorted to drawing them myself or leaving it with a simple description.  Characters should have flaws - that is a no brainer obviously, since nobody likes a Mary Sue / Gary Stu - but also some unique traits that make them stand out and remain memorable. I take inspiration from JK Rowling or George R.R. Martin for example as each of their character remains very unique and unforgettable in my opinion. They definitely did something right and I want to emulate that, so don’t be afraid to be rather bold with your character creation. Let your imagination run wild and surprise me with your ideas!

World building & plotting: An active roleplayer is wanted in this category, without a doubt. I love to world-build, but I tend to lose interest when I am the only one who puts in the effort into it. I can’t do the thinking for two people, so I implore you to at least share the burden (which should not be regarded as such because roleplaying is a fun hobby and nothing more). Too often I find people shying away from it in this regard. If I feel that I’m carrying the weight of the world-building part with specific ideas, I will end the Roleplay in immediately. And consider that the world building is just the tip of the beginning, so from that, I’ll be able to see whether we’ll be a match or not. Because we’d be starting from scratch with whatever we do, it would be a big relief to have someone who doesn’t mind letting ideas flow to set up the universe that we will be roleplaying in.

Content: I find writing erotic, dramatic or action packed scenes very enjoyable. I don’t hinder myself when certain subjects are mentioned that may be uncomfortable for the general public. But then again, as a reminder, a Roleplay is not reality but fiction. For example situations that heavily imply and involve brutality, mayhem, psychological and physical torture are things that need exploration.

Characters should be fully fleshed out, even the not so pretty parts of one’s personality and actions. There is no black and white, but a wide ranging spectrum of grey areas. A story does not always end well and life is never fair, so to implement this into a Roleplay, it would make a fantastic and very exciting story. Nothing is ever certain, people have their ups and downs… we shouldn’t make an exception here. I am not afraid to delve into even more sinister areas such as psychological trauma if its needed to further the story. I want to be as transparent as I possibly can. I have very few limits. The only subjects I will not touch, or rather avoid are heavy graphic rape scenes, bestiality, necrophilia and pedophilia. Other than that everything is fair game. What I also find quite fascinating is describing someone’s mental as well as physical transformation, ascending to a higher or lower state of being, etc. The process of metamorphosis, may it be the manipulation or corruption of someone… it all is quite eerie and at the same time, intriguing. It all leads to the progression of the story, so be warned that we won’t be walking on egg shells here.  

The story will not be solely centred on dark themes. I love me a mixture of everything, including drama, fluff, angst, action, comedy, romance, adventure, mystery and so forth.

Another genre that I’ve vast interest in includes that of the superhero genre. I’m a big fan of both Marvel and DC fandom, and the concept of having humans with abilities, anything of that short would be awesome to do. Against, these would be with original characters on my part. I’m not as fond of general real-life or general modern day genres and themes without a good, complex idea attached to it.

The story will not be solely centred on dark themes. I love me a mixture of everything, including drama, fluff, angst, action, comedy, romance, adventure, mystery and so forth.

I can’t do the thinking for two people, so I implore you to at least share the burden (which should not be regarded as such because roleplaying is a fun hobby and nothing more). Too often I find people shying away from it in this regard. If I feel that I’m carrying the weight of the world-building part with specific ideas, I will end the Roleplay in immediately. And consider that the world building is just the tip of the beginning, so from that, I’ll be able to see whether we’ll be a match or not. Because we’d be starting from scratch with whatever we do, it would be a big relief to have someone who doesn’t mind letting ideas flow to set up the universe that we will be roleplaying in. Content: I find writing erotic, dramatic or action packed scenes very enjoyable. I don’t hinder myself when certain subjects are mentioned that may be uncomfortable for the general public. But then again, as a reminder, a Roleplay is not reality but fiction. For example situations that heavily imply and involve brutality, mayhem, psychological and physical torture are things that need exploration. Characters should be fully fleshed out, even the not so pretty parts of one’s personality and actions. There is no black and white, but a wide ranging spectrum of grey areas. A story does not always end well and life is never fair, so to implement this into a Roleplay, it would make a fantastic and very exciting story. Nothing is ever certain, people have their ups and downs… we shouldn’t make an exception here. I am not afraid to delve into even more sinister areas such as psychological trauma if its needed to further the story. I want to be as transparent as I possibly can. I have very few limits. The only subjects I will not touch, or rather avoid are heavy graphic rape scenes, bestiality, necrophilia and pedophilia. Other than that everything is fair game. What I also find quite fascinating is describing someone’s mental as well as physical transformation, ascending to a higher or lower state of being, etc. The process of metamorphosis, may it be the manipulation or corruption of someone… it all is quite eerie and at the same time, intriguing. It all leads to the progression of the story, so be warned that we won’t be walking on egg shells here.  The story will not be solely centred on dark themes. I love me a mixture of everything, including drama, fluff, angst, action, comedy, romance, adventure, mystery and so forth.  My Roleplaying platform is mostly on email or google docs!
