The Lundehund outcross project is going strong, and the first 2nd generation Norrbotten-outcross was born last week! A perfect litter of two males and two females, all healthy and growing.

The project is being managed by the Norwegian Lundehund club in collaboration with NKK, N.University of Life Sciences, N. Genetic Resource center, and NordGen. It started in 2013.

The stud book was officially opened to project offspring in January '23 after a membership vote. To achieve registration, project dogs must pass an evaluation by a specialist judge proving that they have all of the characteristics of a Lundehund, and no faults foreign to the breed. So far, three 3rd generation dogs have cleared the hurdle - two with Buhund ancestry (different combinations) and one with Icelandic sheepdog. Two of these dogs have already sired 5 fully registered (and by all accounts purebred) litters of between 3 and 5 puppies - in a breed where litter average is 2.75 and 25% are singletons.

"In the on-going Nakba, Israeli government policymakers and forces continue to destroy homes and even entire villages. During the period 2013–20, some 13,265 structures were demolished in Naqab Palestinian communities. The rate of destruction has increased over the years, including in the COVID-19 pandemic year of 2020, during which 2,568 structures were demolished. This represents an increase in annual demolitions of 268 per cent since 2013. In addition, the Israeli governmental and non-governmental forces (e.g., the Jewish National Fund [JNF]), continue to oppose Naqab Palestinians’ making the desert bloom. The NGO, Negev Coexistence Foundation documented the destruction of approximately 14,500 dunams of crops planted by Naqab Palestinians in 2021. The government has also restarted its pre- and early-state practice of demolishing entire Palestinian villages. One such village, Al-Araqib, represents a particular threat because it is a story of displaced Naqab Palestinians moving back to their ancestral lands and re-establishing their village. This village, established in the early 1900s, was depopulated by the Israeli military government in 1953, when all inhabitants were evacuated, ostensibly for six months in order to use the land for military training. The Israeli authorities, however, never allowed the Al-Araqib villagers to return, and eventually they resettled in Rahat, while continuing to register claims for their land, to use it for grazing and agriculture (though crops were repeatedly destroyed by the authorities), and bury their dead in the village cemetery. In 1998, around fifty Bedouin families decided to return to al-Araqib to live on their land, when an operation by the JNF to plant trees on their land was initiated. Like other unrecognized villages, Al-Araqib has no modern services or infrastructure, and has been repeatedly subjected to demolitions, threats and arrests by Israeli authorities. On 27 July 2010, the entire village was demolished by the state, including olive trees and livestock. When the UN Human Rights Council questioned the Israeli government about the demolition of this village in 2011, it maintained a staunchly settler-colonial denial of indigenous land rights, stating that ‘the so-called El-Arkib village was simply an act of squatting on state owned land. The individuals never had ownership over this land.’ The people of Al-Araqib rebuilt their village and have staunchly refused to leave. Since then, as of 25 January 2022, the village has been demolished another 197 times, often with the Israeli forces also destroying, burying or confiscating the wood and tin building materials to try to prevent the residents from using them to rebuild Al-Araqib again. These serial demolitions have also resulted in many injuries and arrests, and state authorities have sued the families for over a million shekels (~US $330,000) to cover the costs of the demolitions."

It is true that the Mystery Hand has appeared over her head on more than one occasion in the past.

But as it takes three to make a valid group, I am looking for a third photo to confirm my claims (whatever they may be). So I've got to ask, have you ever seen the Mystery Hand in any of Caitríona's other photos?

Cryptography Enthusiasts Requested

As promised, a post about... something. Secret codes!

Several of the blog posts begin with "TRANSMISSION// [something here] // AURORA." The middle section is different in each of these-- one is text in Chinese, another one is Morse Code, and one is what Travis identified as shorthand for elements of the periodic table. I believe all of them probably have some kind of code, but I do not know enough about cryptography to begin with most of them.

Which is where we could use a hand! If anyone has any insight or ideas on any of these (as transcribed below), and would be willing to help us decode them, that would be fantastic!

From January 13, 2013:

LDS LGBTQ Anniversaries for 2023

For 8 years I’ve been in charge of creating my stake’s calendar. In addition to stake meetings & activities, I include holidays and significant LDS anniversaries like when it was the 175th anniversary of the founding of Sunday School or 40 years ago priesthood and temple blessings were restored to members of African descent. 

This year there's only 1 significant anniversary I put on the calendar: Sept 21st will be 200 years since the angel Moroni first appeared to Joseph Smith.

For readers of this blog, here’s a few anniversaries this year that may be of interest:

75 years ago

April 1948 - Gay BYU students Kent Goodridge and Richard Snow met with church president George Albert Smith. They were in love and wanted to get a clarification of their ‘status.’ President Smith treated them with great kindness and told them to "live their lives as best they could" in their companionship. They had gambled making this appointment and worried they could be excommunicated on the spot, instead they left feeling loved and valued. 

Unfortunately, this live-and-let-live attitude didn’t last long as President Smith's successor, David O. McKay, felt homosexuals "should be excommunicated without any doubt, that the homosexual has no right to membership in the Church."

30 years ago

October - Mormon-raised Russell Henderson and his friend Aaron McKinney tortured Matthew Shepard and left him for dead in Wyoming. The shocking crime made international news. The outrage over this crime eventually lead to the Matthew Shepard Act in 2009 which expanded the federal law’s definition of “hate crime” to include sexual orientation and gender identity. In 2018, Matthew's ashes were moved to the Washington National Cathedral

Chieko Okazaki, the first person of color to serve in an LDS Church general organization presidency, was first counselor in the General Relief Society President when she published a book in which she wrote “A family with a gay child is not a failed family. It's a family with a member who needs special love and understanding and who has love and understanding to give back.”

California’s Prop 8 - Church leadership heavily encouraged members donate time and money to pass Prop 8 which would ban same-sex marriage in California. About 1/2 of the money raised for its passage came from Mormons. The proposition passed and immediately there were protests at temples in Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, and the church received a lot of negative exposure. Since then the church has preferred behind-the-scenes roles in its efforts to combat queer rights

January 2018 - The documentary "Believer" featuring Imagine Dragon's lead singer Dan Reynolds premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Reynolds discussed the intersection of LGBTQ people in the Mormon community. Later in the year he appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show and The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and spoke of LGBTQ Mormons and suicides

January 2018 - Josh Weed, the most famous LDS gay man in a mixed-orientation marriage, announces that he & his wife will get a divorce. They apologize to everyone who ever had their story held up as an example that gay people can get married and stay in the Church.

February 2018 - Church-run Family Services states it no longer provides reparative therapy or sexual orientation change efforts

February 2018 - Richard Ostler starts a podcast called “Listen, Learn, and Love,” which has LGBTQ members/former members share their stories

March 2018 -  BYU sponsors its first LGBT campus event, a panel of four students--Kaitlynn Wright, Ben Schilaty, Sarah Langford and Gabriel Cano–answer student-submitted questions

As president of the LGBTQAI+ and Allies Club, Jill Stevenson worked with administration at Southern Virginia University, a predominantly-LDS liberal arts college, to get the university to officially recognize the club, and to allow same-gender dancing on campus

June 2018 - The Church’s Family Search website starts allowing same-sex marriages to be recorded

July 2018 - The Provo Freedom Festival allows LGBTQ groups to participate in the parade due to a contract it had signed with the city of Provo which included a non-discrimination clause.

Neil's episodes are from 13 May 2012 through 3 October 2012, then he returns 25 January 2013 through 19 March 2013.

Femslash Revolution's Holidays and Happy Endings 2023

Dearest followers,

From 2013 to 2019, our blog hosted an annual event at the end of the year. For a small period of time in December and January, we posted holiday-themed art, edits, fic, and anything else femslash-related to celebrate the festive season. This was always a popular event, but in 2020, mods were pretty busy, so we stopped hosting the event for a few years.

We've decided to start once more in 2023 and host another Holidays and Happy Endings event! This will take place from Monday, December 18 through Monday, December 25. Our posting schedule will remain on the same times, but weekly themes will be discarded. Posts will be tagged with Holidays and Happy Endings 2023 and we are open for submissions from now until the end of the event!

While holiday and winter content is encouraged, we will accept all fluffy, feel-good submissions to make us warm and cozy during the week. And though this event does take place over Christmas Eve and Day, we celebrate all winter holidays and would love a wide variety of submissions.

Submit your Holidays and Happy Endings 2023 content here. This is a low-key, low-stakes event that is all about feeling good and celebrating each other. Have fun, and we hope you enjoy our festive posts.
