Malevolent relisten episode 1
The Oxford’s Dictionary of Blasphemy is gibberish. “Sepid, lorin, t’zgul” doesn't mean anything
John is a splinter of Hastur, one that comes from "the dark world" and claims to have died before. He clearly does not associate himself with the king. “We need to find out how I came back.” He remembers the book ‘De Tribus Militibus’ that they find in the bookstore and the song "They call it madness". John has a strong sense of right and wrong and seems exasperated with Arthur's attitude from the start:
ENTITY: Did you even try?
ARTHUR: What?
ENTITY (more intense): Did you even try to help?
Now, is it fair to assume that this John has already been with some version of Arthur but had his memory erased and passed into the other Arthur? It's heavily hinted at by their dialogue but then it's never brought up in the next 40 episodes ever again.
John calls the dark world a prison. Kayne also considers being tied to a book or a person to be imprisoned. And Arthur proves him to be right - their codependency ensures John's trapped for prosperity again with no bodily autonomy.
John says that Arthur killed Peter - which we know isn't true. Earlier he also said he couldn't control anything but Arthur's eyes. So how did he kill Parker? It wasn't his later established ability to project from Arthur for the simple reason that had he known how to do that, he'd at least try to do it again.
Arthur, who believes he just killed his best friend, goes straight into denial.
“And you remember killing him.”
“It was an accident.”
And won't we see more of this. Any other person would blame themself but not our Arthur. He's spent his whole life pitying himself and putting the blame on literally anything else. I sure hope he'll grow as a person throughout the series. He will, right? Right?
What's funny is that in a couple minutes our hero doesn't't even need to be talked into killing Eddie. The choice is given after he's ready to shoot and the second option isn't to encourage him to do so but to simply let him shoot him. Which makes it crazy that John is supposed to be the bad "devil-on-your-shoulder" guy
John literally explains everything Kayne yapped about in Intermezzo in the first episode and he does it better and faster

Breck Bednar was a bright, intelligent, year ten pupil at St. Bedes in Redhill, Surrey. His father, Barry, was a successful City oil trader originally from Houston, Texas, who went on to manage a series of companies, including Rubicon Oil Brokers. Breck’s mother, Lorin LaFave, hailed from Michigan and had previously worked for clothing companies before she became governor and teaching assistant at St. John’s C of E Primary School.
Like many teenagers, Breck found solace and companionship on the internet, immersing himself in online gaming and making new friends. He joined an online community called TeamSpeak after being introduced to it at a church youth group. The platform was similar to Skype, allowing him to play games with his school friends and meet new ones, including two boys named Liam and Tom. Although they attended different schools, they would all chat on the server after classes.
Initially, Breck’s parents believed the online server was a positive thing for him as it fostered socializing and interaction with like-minded individuals. Breck excelled in sports, but it was computers that were his passion and future career. Even as a young boy, he had a deep interest in computers, teaching himself code and building his own gaming computer using components purchased online.
The server was owned and controlled by 18-year-old Lewis Daynes. Breck became close to Daynes and looked up to him. First of all, he was impressed by his extensive computer knowledge. As the relationship grew, Daynes told Breck that he worked as a computer engineer by day and had even worked for the US Defence Department as a hacker and promised Breck great wealth through a fictional software company. According to Lewis, he had ties to the FBI, ran multi-million-pound businesses and owned luxury homes in London and New York City.
In reality, Daynes was unemployed and lived in a flat in Grays, Essex. He had been abandoned by his parents and had spent his childhood and adolescence in and out of foster care. Online, he created this persona as a wealthy and successful entrepreneur and Breck was impressed. He believed that Daynes was living the kind of life that he had dreamed of for himself.
After grooming and manipulating Breck, Daynes did the unthinkable..

If you were with me in the exit row Wouldn't be quite so scared to go While the pilot prays and the engine blows Down we go Now I know that nothing's promised Ridin' on a doomsday comet And all I can think of is you You're all I need At the end of everything You're all I see With the seconds left to live It's true that I loved you to death As I call your name with my last breath While the sky caves in You're all I need At the end of everything
Okay, the way this song just hits me in the feelings and makes me think of John's line from the DLC: "Where were you when my plane was going down?"

If you want a fun, glam jukebox musical, then "Heart of Rock and Roll" is for you. The musical is based on music by Huey Lewis; the plot, or book by Johnathan A. Abrams as well as story (also Tyler Mitchell) is a fun one filled with 80's references, IKEA jokes, aerobics and leggings!
The direction by Gordon Greenberg is sharp, the actors flow nicely at The James Earl Jones Theatre. The choreography too is very tight, very eighties (Lorin Latarro) and the lighting is pure glam; bright blues, greens, reds and purples make this show pop.
Mr. Lewis's songs blend tremendously with all the things that make a great show,,, deft costumes (Jen Caprio), opulent sets (Derek McLane) and big voices. It all comes together for two hours and thirty minutes. Audience members settle in to relive the past with the its expressions, the fashion, the high hair and bask in its nostalgia. In this mid west box company, the simplicity of the everyday life keeps the actors upbeat; this warm play permeates the joy of being alive in this era.
As Bobby (Corey Cott) navigates his life, a one time lead singer and guitarist who has put that behind him for a 9 to 5 job at Stone Box Company, he sets his sights higher to become one in the executive offices. After a slip up he must further navigate his life. John Dossett as Mr. Stone who is replete with mid west charm but is a no nonsense man, his daughter, Cassandra (McKenzie Kurtz) is a numbers gal. Graduating from Princeton University she is a stickler for the bottom line. As things twist and turn, the company needs ideas and this is when the musical gets interesting.
Most of Mr. Lewis's songs are in the show (except "She's Heart and Soul"). The musical direction clearly helps the show along with how the actors sing them; not to gitch, not to heavy on the percussion, it is a right blend of orchestration. In fact nothing in this musical is heavy in the way of over powering, just a smooth feel to it. The vibe throughout is that the show more flutters than anything else. The only thing that vacillates is whether Bobby will stick to his game plan of being a corporate guy or a rocker. It is not always clear as to what his decision will be and that's part of the great fun.
As the 2024 spring season concludes, (only a few sporadic ones left), it Was "Sign of The Times" and "The Heart of Rock and Roll" that I will most look back on as fun shows! Both had a wonderful book and really fun music to them. This season was one of the deepest show lineup in quite some time; most of the shows were quality, what separates a show like "Heart of R&R is that it never takes itself too seriously, rather it pokes fun at itself. From the Richard Simmons spoof to Fjord (Orville Mendoza) the Swedish furniture magnet, we all laugh at the memories that was 1987 when this musical takes place.
Like "Back to The Future", this musical has something for everybody and it will attract audiences of all ages. You don't have to be a "boomer" to enjoy it! Between the laughter, the glorious songs and the wonderful dancing, "Heart of Rock and Roll" is a keeper!
.................................................................................................................
"Home" will round out the season with a few shows scheduled for the summer. It already appears that the fall season will have some interesting shows coming to "The Great White Way".

Uncle Vanya.
For the modern theater lover "Uncle Vanya" at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater may very well be for you. This "Vanya" is not the typical play by Chekhov; in its new rendition by Heidi Schreck, we get more modern language, modern costumes (Kaye Voyce) and modern direction by Lila Neugebauer. Vanya (Steve Carell) has spent most of his life farming the land so that Alexander (Alfred Molina) can carry on with his art studies as a celebrated professor and teacher. Both Molina and Carell as well as Alison Pill as Sonya are standouts in this production, laying waste to all the other actors in the cast. Where the sound resonates in this well appointed theater (Mikhail Fiksel and Beth Lake), the sets by Mimi Lien are unimpressive. Lap Chi Chu gives us the support on lighting and her moods vary well amongst this two hours and fifteen minutes. "Uncle Vanya" is slow at times, very slow due to Neugebauer's direction. Actors don't always blend well causing pockets of weakness in the dialogue. Both William Jackson Harper as Astrov and Anika Noni Rose as Elena cannot hold the stage nor the attention of the audience. Since the show is put in modern language, these two actors appear more like people in the inner city rather than stage professionals; even their body language goes anathema to this great classic. In a slow-go of this play, the show does pick up almost half way through the first act. The dialogue and the melding of characters never fully catches its stride however. We get a mesh-mosh of thoughts, feelings and adversity, but the true feelings are never brought to the forefront emotionally. At the end of the play we get to hear Vanya rant about his feelings, how he gave up his life for the farm which is weakly portrayed at the back of the theater. The audience never feels his pain as Carell holds back and we never feel the strong emotions. More comedic than serious, he is at his best when the show has him bantering about. In Voyce's costumes we get both the elegant and the mundane. Never overwhelmed by the garb, it fades away like much of this play does. For the modern theater lover, however, there are a lot of things in this show that you will like. The sets which never really blend with the show are intricate and give meaning to the modern. The deft sound keeps the play eery at times especially with the reverbs at different times during the performance. The backdrop in the second act is clever even though it is difficult to sift through the conventional writings of Chekhov... it goes against the grain of what we have seen in the past. "Uncle Vayna" is a mixed bag and is not for everyone, it takes the conventional completely out of the picture and puts us in the new world of modern.

Frankie's Song of the Week: Espresso - Sabrina Carpenter
A little something different from me while I deal with the strain of writers block. I thought I'd do a song of the week, because I have been surely annoying my neighbours and my friends with this absolute musical GEM. I am of course talking about Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter.

Homestead Theatre Block (The Phantasy Entertainment Complex)
11794-11816 Detroit Ave.
Lakewood, OH
The Homestead Theater in Lakewood, OH, first opened in 1918. John De Frasia purchased the complex in 1965 when he opened a restaurant inside called Piccadilly Square. After seeing the 1962 film Mutiny on the Bounty, De Frasia built a pirate ship inside the restaurant, which was converted to a music club in 1973.  One side of the ship is used as a DJ booth, while the second half is a sound stage. The walls of the complex contain early new wave posters and stickers from most bands that have appeared at the complex since its opening.  The theater played movies until 1979 and at one point was referred to as the Detroit Theater. Between the years 1976 and 1977 it was called The Last Picture Show. In the eighties, the theater was renamed the Phantasy, with a focus on alternative, goth and industrial rock groups.
The Phantasy Entertainment Complex, consisting of the Phantasy Nite Club, The Chamber, Symposium, and Phantasy Theater,  has been a staple in the Cleveland music scene since the early 1980s. The Phantasy helped launch nationally recognized bands Anne E. DeChant, Devo, Exotic Birds, Filter, Lucky Pierre, the Adults, The Pagans, Stabbing Westward, and was the debut location for Nine Inch Nails. It was also a stopover for other major acts like Iggy Pop, Jesus and Mary Chain, The Pogues, The Psychedelic Furs, the Ramones, and Psychic TV and has hosted reunion shows for bands including Lestat, among others.
Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett performed at the Phantasy Theater in 1987 a day before their film premiere of Light of Day.  Within the same complex The Chamber dance club began in 1996 under the joint management of D.J. Cable and Michele De Frasia and has since been the local haven for Alternative, Goth and Industrial subcultures. Notable artists that frequented The Chamber and are from the area included Andy Kubiszewski, Marilyn Manson, Kevin McMahon, Lorin Morgan-Richards, Larry Szyms and Textbeak.
In 2009, the complex was investigated by paranormal researchers who claimed to have captured audio of spirits.  In 2010, a fire swept through the complex.  In 2015, the De Frasia family announced that the Phantasy Nite Club complex was for sale.  A deal to sell the venue fell through at the last minute in 2018.  As of June 2020, plans for the Phantasy to become a community hub and entertainment complex were nearing completion. On July 8, 2020, ownership was transferred to the West 117 Development- Phantasy LLC as part of the Studio West 117 complex. The complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Homestead Theater Block on June 18, 2021.

The overtures to The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute and William Tell receive regular performances but what about many of the other overtures that are hardly performed at all? In this edition of In Conversation we look at some great overtures that are worth hearing… Carl Maria Weber (1786-1826)Overture to Euryanthe Op 81London…

Ina trusted Jesus as her personal Savior when she was 9. She graduated from Woodward Academy in Atlanta, finishing as the Salutatorian of her class. She married the late Dennis Pegram on June 5, 1976, and received a B.S. in Music Education from Bob Jones University the following year.
Dennis and Ina ministered in Virginia Beach before returning to Greenville for graduate school. Ina earned a master’s degree in Sacred Music from BJU, following which she and Dennis faithfully served together at Hampton Park Baptist Church and Christian School until the Lord called Dennis Home suddenly on July 29, 2005. For years Ina was active in the HPBC adult choir and directed the ladies’ ensemble in addition to singing solos.
Ina loved investing in her piano and voice students. She taught at home, at school, and online through Majesty Music Academy and for her favorite students-her seven grandchildren who were taking lessons. She was a member of the National Association for Music Education, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Music Teachers National Association, and the National Federation of Music Clubs; she dearly loved the members of her local NFMC clubs-Crescent Music Club and Greenville Woman’s Music Club.
Ina dealt with a number of health challenges over the years but always persevered, diligently doing with tremendous energy whatever God asked of her. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Ina was preceded in death by four infant grandchildren, brother Michael Carson, father-in-law Joseph Pegram, and mother-in-law Norma Smith.
