mendels part in the beginning as he monologues during his session goes at a particularly fast and flimsy pace, to show his uncertainty (in his profession and in the world, how everyone is broken up like how he points his words). then when he is separate from trina but thinking about her, he has confidence in their relationship and can slow down to think about that, but it also shows how tired he is from trying to make out how people can't just understand things how he does.
the difference between im breaking down and trina works it out, she finds better coping mechanisms than singing through her suicidal ideations while cooking - and she goes slower as she sings to sort things out in her mind, but as every human does she still lets it get under her skin when her voice gets stronger at the end (before the neighbors relax, "work it ouuuuttttt")
and when mendel greets trina, they go at the same pace, but when trina mentions marvin/whizzer, his tempo spikes up and the instrumental gets more worried, because when he's faced with it, he can still be insecure about their marriage because he seeks validation from trina - when he can complain about his patients by himself, he backs himself up to justify. when trina talks about marvin, HIS doing, he gets scared that she'll get caught up in that
