#KATE SHARMA DESERVED TO HAVE FLASHBACKS

anyone else suspicious as to why only the male protagonists in the first two seasons of bridgerton are given flashbacks.
like we only got a Daphne flashback because it was Anthony's in s2. I don't even like Daphne but I feel like she still deserved a backstory.
especially when it comes to Kate, where in her book we were given more information about how she grew up and where her trauma is from, but in the show we got NONE of that, just winks at it that only the book readers would get. so the audience had to guess where her trauma came from, and therefore didn't understand her actions.
and it doesn't escape me that the female characters receive MUCH different treatment than the male protagonists, and it's obvious to me that it's because we aren't given much of anything in terms of backstory to understand their actions, in great contrast to the male leads. I often see this when I go to look for bridgerton edits on instagram or tiktok and quite literally most of the edits I see are of the men. For instance, it took a few days for me to find a queen charlotte edit thats just her when HER show came out. all the edits were either george or her and george together.
If Bridgerton were TRULY feminist, it would show both the leads background stories in equal.

It's so confusing and weird that Bridgerton introduced in world racism both with Lady D and Simon in season one of the show and in Queen Charlotte and at the same time they also want the audience to accept that somehow Marina Thompson or the dark skinned Indian Kate Sharma has more privilege and power than Penelope Featherington?
Kate Sharma was also poor, so much more than the Featheringtons. She depended on Lady D to host them. The Sharmas were looked down on by the ton because Mary Sheffield married an Indian. The Sharmas were disowned and ostracized by the Sheffields.
Kate was also an unmarried spinster. No one was asking Kate to dance. As much as Kate wanted love and romance and to dance at a ball wearing pretty dresses, she got none of that. She was also the woman on the sidelines watching as others danced and fell in love.
Racism and colorism is also very much a thing in eurocentric notions of beauty considering the setting and characters of Bridgerton is 99% white.
We got so little of Kate's backstory, of who her parents where - we didn't even get their names!! - of the trauma (explained for both Simon and Anthony using flashbacks) that had Kate overlooking her own happiness for that of her sister.
Despite bragging nonstop about the diversity of Bridgerton the showrunners thought that the white Featheringtons needed more screentime in season 2 rather than the South Asian family.
And Kate was planning on going back to India and work as a governess to pay for her livelihood. Because, you know, there's more honest ways of being a 'working woman' than running the equivalent of the regency 'Daily Mail' dragging other women down. The modiste Madame Delacroix, Kate planning to teach and Sienna in season one are all working to pay a living. Black, brown and lower class women looking to alleviate poverty.
And considering how much harder Kate already had it as an outsider in the ton, it wouldn't have been easy with Penelope using her gossip rag to describe the unmarried Indian woman as ' a Spinster of a beast'. What did Kate do to Penelope to warrant this? Nothing. Just a way for Penelope to make money at Kate's expense.
That's the thing I dislike the most about the way the character of Penelope is written on the show - her victims don't deserve her vitriol and are often in much worse circumstances than her. From Kate Sharma to the unnamed seamstress who apparently lost all her customers because Penelope wrote falsely about their work in the her tabloid as a bribe for Madam Delacroix.
And I think that's what I find problematic about the writing of the show and even the discourse surrounding it - when characters like Marina Thompson (the poor black cousin who would have ended up destitute on the streets because of Penelope) and Kate Sharma arguably have it far worse than Penelope Featherington as per the show's writing and yet we are supposed to have the most sympathy for Penelope because her crush Colin didn't love her back and she's a curvy white woman?
I guess that's the difference between how I perceive this world and these characters as a woc and the majority white female audience for this show and it's such a huge disconnect for me. I guess this is also partly because the show has this badly written and 'strangely toothless racism' as Ash Sarkar beautifully put it. As in the racism is treated in this world as a little problem solved by handing out a few titles to black people instead of being a white supremacist ideology which treated black and brown people as inferior, serfs and slaves.
From what little we got from season 2, Kate Sharma definitely did not have it easy navigating the ton as a poor outsider and that certainly contributed to her poor choices. She is also put through the wringer, treated like the other woman, is miserable for several episodes, had to apologize again and again and nearly die before Edwina forgives her!
In contrast Penelope's actions have hurt so many and yet she gets a pass by both the show and a fandom that wants Colin to grovel before her because of a single offhand remark and because he didn't return her affections.
Also making it clear here that I am not comparing Penelope to the male characters who always get the better writing, flaws and all. I am comparing Penelope to the female characters of colour - Kate Sharma and Marina Thompson.
I mean, Marina Thompson gets so much vitriolic and sexist hatred for not having told Colin Bridgerton the truth of her pregnancy. How dare Marina hurt this privileged white man Colin Bridgerton. When she was desperate to not end up destitute on the streets or get raped by old white men. And yet Penelope gets a pass for hurting women like Marina and Kate.
It continues a trend of white female characters never being held to the same standard as female characters of colour. Daphne sexually assaults Simon in season one and that was not even addressed on the show. Male rape is apparently no big deal because Daphne wanting children is what's important. It's Simon who has to apologize and within one episode resolve his trauma and accept being a father. This is despite both Daphne and Penelope having more screentime and more writing that builds their character unlike the stick thin writing given to Kate Sharma in season 2.
So yeah, I will be checking into season 3 to watch the ten minutes we get with Kate Sharma since we got so little of her in her own season and it's so singular to get dark skinned south Indian characters in a period drama romance like this. It's just the way the writing on the show, the production and even the fandom treats it's characters, especially characters of colour has been disappointing to say the least.

Have you ever thought about a Kanthony (and others) re-incarnation au. I'm thinking a Housefull 4 style bridgerton fic starring Kanthony, Benophie and maybe Polin. Housefull 4 is a bollywood comedy gold. Surprisingly it's without any angst that u expect of reincarnation tropes. But maybe we can have some angst if someone decides to make a fic out of it 🤞. Anyway if someone does decide to make one I will recommend watching the movie first or look at the plot on wiki for the main gist of the story. U know I got this idea because of the spider scene (equivalent to the bee sting according to me) in the movie so like we can have Kanthony as Madhu n Bala (eldests), Benophie as Meena n Dharmputra, n Polin as Mala n Bangdu.
Thank you for listening to my mumbling 😊.
i've said it before and I'll say it again: people in Tumblr have good taste. So guys, if you haven't seen Housefull 4. Go watch it, it's an awesome movie and it deserves a shoutout. And the funny thing is that I did see the movie a long time ago. But I thought that it would be a great twist if the girls were the ones having the big problem making the guys remember their past lives. So anon, I know this take on the movie isn't what you asked for but bear with me.
So in 1813 you have Queen Violet ever despairing on marrying off her three rakish sons. And then there's Kate, Sophie and Penelope. Who for one reason or another love these three idiots. first there is Kate, Minor indian royalty, princess Kate was vanished from her father's court because of a tiny disobedience (staging a coup to put Edwina on the throne is not a tiny disobedience Kathani Sharma) so she is kind of scheming to marry Anthony and become the future Queen. So she can return home with something to show for it.
Anthony's second brother, Benedict, is desperately inlove with his sister's ladies maid/bodyguard, Sophie. Who has saved his life more times than he can count. And finally, Colin, ever the young prankster. Is inlove with the court lead gossip maker. Miss Penelope aka notorious scandal mongrel Lady Whistledown.
Kate and Anthony fell inlove, and together they also worked very hard to unite Benedict and Sophie against those who opposed their class difference, and defended Colin and Penelope's choice to be together despite Lady Whistledown's reputation. BUT on the day the three of them were going to get married. Someone bombed the cathedral. And the three couples died.
Back in the present Kate Sharma is a down on her luck photographer working too many jobs who accidentally gets in trouble with the Indian Mob and has to pay back a sum that seems astronomical, or work for the mob for life. Well, never let it be said that Kate doesn't know how to scheme her way into the lives of the rich and famous. Her boss Lady Danbury sets her and her two best friends up with the sons of a super rich business' woman, who need convenient wives that don't mess on their style ( in exchange for a few favors after the girls are officially Bridgertons. ) Penelope and Sophie have agreed to help Kate pay back the money to the mob and well, at least the guys are handsome.
Everything is going swimmingly, the three couples are getting along well, at least until Kate visits the Bridgerton family cemetery with her new fiancée and starts getting flashbacks of her past life...
Here's the thing... In this life, she is sort of going to marry the wrong brother!! oh no, Kate needs to help her friends remember their past lives too. She doesn't want to get married to Colin, or let Sophie marry Anthony, also she's pretty sure that if Penelope knew she's getting hitched to the same Benedict who was head over heels for Sophie in their past life, she would die of embarrassment.
Now all Kate has to do is help her friends and their husbands remember their past life. Reconnect with her husband who doesn't know she's his wife because he thinks she's the gold digger who is putting the moves on Colin. Somehow figure out why they all reincarnated AND find out who bombed the cathedral in 1813.
Easy peasy right?

My Top 10 Favorite Moments From Bridgerton Season 2, Episode 3: "A Bee In Your Bonnet"
It has officially been one year since Season 2, so please enjoy this ongoing series of posts about my favorite moments from each episode (and ignore the fact that I never finished doing this for Season 1). My favorite moments in no particular order (except maybe chronological):
10- Edmund's Final Farewell
Not everything on this list can be a "fun" moment. But this moment deserves a mention because it definitely left an impact.
This opening was heartbreaking, wasn't it? There's the picture-perfect day, the father-son bonding, and then the bee. It's a change from the books having Anthony and Violet present at Edmund's death, but a necessary one, I think. But the most heartbreaking part of the scene is when Edmund seems to realize (and accept) that his time has come--he's going to die. So he reaches out to Violet, the love of his life. And Violet understands (but does not accept) that he's saying goodbye as Anthony watches on helplessly.
Tumblr media
9- "Is that a promise or a threat?"
Daphne has returned to the Bridgertons with Augie just in time to meet the lady her older brother has been courting and intends to marry. And she promises to help Anthony this season just as much as he helped her last year. Which Anthony doesn't take too well.
Tumblr media
8- Mistaken Identity
The Sharmas and Lady Danbury have arrived in the country! And Kate is definitely charmed by the sight of Aubrey Hall. She can't help but take it in. And does Anthony first greet the woman he has been courting first? Nope. He makes a beeline for Kate. They banter. Newton makes his feelings known. Daphne is giving them some side-eye. Eventually, she proves herself to be the only Bridgerton in possession of the Bridgerton brain cell (or any brain cell), because she immediately clocks that this must be the woman who has won Anthony's heart.
But of course, she quickly discovers that the woman who has won Anthony's heart and the woman he has been courting, are two very different women.
Tumblr media
7- Pall Mall
It's pretty safe to say that this sequence was highly anticipated by anyone who read the books. And we got it all. We've got Kate and Anthony being competitive maniacs and we've got the Bridgerton siblings being little shits. More Bridgertons than the book, even, since Eloise and Benedict didn't participate in the book.
It's also a series of red flags waving furiously in the wind that Edwina and Anthony would not make a good couple. Anthony's really struggling to hold on to his "gentlemanly" persona in Kate's presence and his siblings aren't helping things. Kate immediately gets along with the Bridgertons and gets into the spirit of the game. But it's clear from the start that Edwina is not having a good time. The playful music stops every time it's Edwina's turn to swing. And every time she misses, there's only polite clapping. It's like the Bridgertons are taking pity on her and decided that teasing her would be akin to kicking her while she's down.
By the time Edwina bows out of the game, she's struggling to keep up her own "pleasant" diamond persona. It's a wonder that Daphne is the only one who picked up on anything else happening between Kate and Anthony.
Tumblr media
6- Mud Bath
Anthony and Kate falling in the mud. Of course their competitiveness would lead them there. But it allows them a much-needed moment of levity that they haven't had since they first met. And, honestly, it's probably the hardest Anthony's laughed in years.
Of course, Anthony's emotional baggage comes back to haunt him and the moment is gone.
Tumblr media
5- Emotional Damage
The entire episode is killing us with the flashbacks. There's Edmund's death, Anthony being thrust into a role he is nowhere near prepared for, everyone looking to Anthony to have all the answers when he doesn't have a clue, nearly losing his mother and sister in childbirth, and then losing his mother to her grief for who knows how long afterward. Anthony had to develop a tough exterior to survive it all and nobody around him seems to understand how hard that was--and still is--for him.
Tumblr media
4- Benedict, how high are you?/No it's "hi, how are you?"
If your friend tells you to only take one edible at a time...you listen to them. They probably have more experience than you. Unfortunately for Benedict, he was not in possession of the Bridgerton brain cell when he decided to drink all of Colin's tea. And he has to learn from his mistake by tripping balls during his mother's dinner.
But let's be honest: it's Benedict. He will learn nothing from this experience whatsoever.
Tumblr media
3- The Proposal That Wasn't
Jesus Christ, Lady Danbury! Are you blind? Your success from last season must have made you cocky. (Though if you think about it, she did as much to get Daphne and Simon together as Emma did with Mr. and Mrs. Weston.)
Anthony's been eyefucking Kate from his seat for the entire dinner and he looks like he wants to stab himself in the eye with his spoon when Lady Danbury not-so-subtly hints at a proposal.
They're all lucky that Anthony's dinner didn't come back up at the effort of attempting to force a proposal. Thankfully he abandons his efforts...for now.
Tumblr media
2- Anthony vs Newton
If it hadn't been for the subtitles, I might have missed Newton growling at Anthony. And it's funny to see Anthony get so worked up because he can't get a dog to like him. Why is Newton's good opinion so important to you, Anthony? Did you ever stop to think about that? Hm? No? I didn't think so.
Tumblr media
1- The Bee: The Sequel
Anthony's past has come back to haunt him. When he's bickering speaking with Kate after her ride, a bee lands on her, and Anthony can't help but panic. Especially when Kate does not heed his warnings to stay still. And all of that fear of watching someone he loves dying right in front of him comes rushing back. And only Kate can bring him down from his panic.
Tumblr media
Controversial opinion, but: I don't mind that they deviated from the book here. At this point in the book, Anthony decided that sucking the venom out of Kate's bosom was the only way to save her, they get caught by Violet, Mary, and Portia, and they have no choice but to get married. But with the number of times a lady's reputation is "compromised" in a Bridgerton book and the couple is forced to marry, that plot device would get very old very quick in the show.

covid brain fog is still kicking my ass but I’ve been thinking about one of the sadder aspects of Kate’s missing backstory and flashbacks. Anthony over the two seasons is now relatively well rounded, his behaviour in season 1 and most of season 2 is explained by his past, we see this visually through the season 2 the flashbacks. Kate however didn’t get that, Anthony has a tonne of parallels with his past self, his parents and with Kate. We see and know so little about Kate Sharma in the show that she only has parallels with Anthony and I don’t like that. There is a lack of agency for her character as a woman and when you consider she is a South Asian woman being presented only through her devotion to her family and relationship with a man, it’s looks bad.
A really simple scene that could have prevented this is seeing Kate learn to ride or riding with her father on the grounds of the royal family he clerked for. Seeing her ride during rough weather like monsoon rains would have been so good and paralleled so well with many aspects of season 2. Firstly we would have seen her with her father, who she I assume was very close with due to losing her mother so young. Like Anthony she has that pain of losing a father, she is also an orphan but the loss of a father was more thematic for this season *gestures to Anthony and Edmund*. We see it mentioned when Anthony first mets her that she is riding astride, yes he makes the quip about if she’s single but there’s more there. I imagine in India titled or not being close with the royal family meant she had a lot of freedom and relative privilege and could ride carefree on their lands. Riding astride is something she holds onto from her past in India it’s how we are introduced to her character, it relates to her father, culture and freedom his position granted her in India. When she comes to England she knows the riding etiquette for women and is being rebellious by riding astride anyways.
Her knowledge and history with house riding elevates so many other scenes, the royal ascot races, Anthony’s inferior horsemanship, the irony of Edwina being gifted a horse etc. It even elevates the tragedy of her fall. I believe she skilfully rode in the rain many times in the past. For Kate horse riding was something she had as her thing prior to meeting Anthony or settling foot in England. She fell because she was troubled, feeling guilty and confused and the ride that would clear her head hurt her. She’d just spent the night with Anthony and knew she was in love with him but that must have been scary for her. She had given into her desires and cast repression aside and done something for herself but she still felt bad about it. Just including a horse riding flashback would have done so much, imagine how much more at just a couple scenes about Kate would have improved the season. Idk how much sense this post even makes but yeah Kate deserved better

I like that dumb "Was I truly that blind?" joke as much as the next fan but honestly, Edwina did nothing wrong imo. She's a young woman who thought that the man she was crushing on was falling for her. And Anthony never dissuaded her after the engagement. "Oh what about when he told her that marriage to him would be him in London doing business and her in the country?" Yeah, but had you noticed that he didn't tell her that he wouldn't love her?
And then he talked to her about books. Books! Of course she was thinking that she was getting a fairytale romance.
And when they got engaged, he threw out her awful grandparents out of the house and was still going to marry her. Girl was thinking "I read plenty of romances and this is telling that he's in love with me🥰"
And Mary was thinking "Kate and Lady Danbury have everything under control." Which isn't abusive thinking, it's "This way has worked so far so it's fine" thinking. I wish that they went more into the Sharma family and realizing that the "Kate Will Handle Everything" wasn't sustainable and that Mary needed to take charge but I complained about this before (needed more time and focus on Sharmas and less on the Featheringtons, I'm sorry Portia I love you but you were given too much dang time).
So in short- Mary and Edwina are not the bad guys! Stop blaming them for Anthony's mistakes.
Lmao this! Anthony was pursuing Edwina aggressively. The one suitor not terrified of Kate (but that's because he was dreaming of her 😂)
I did not care about the Featherington pyramid scheme. Portia makes me laugh, she is the regency Kris Jenner but Mary Sharma and Papa Sharma deserved that screen time and we deserved flashbacks!!

** somewhat spoilers**
The more I think about it the more I definitely want Kate and Anthony (of course if not primary) as secondary leads. I mean if Lady F can have a f*ing whole ass plot they can keep K and A in S3.
I think since filming S2 Covid was at its height that contributed to the quote "lack of s*x scenes" and I completely understand...
I LOVE K and A. And Johnathan and Simone's acting/chemistry was BRILLIANT, AMZING imo, but I definitely wanted more of them, I'm not ready to let them go yet ❤😭
So Imagine this:
In the beginning next season K and A are still enraptured with each other where members of the family are looking for them but they are off somewhere with each other. Not necessarily a montage of s*x scenes like S and D but at least a couple more intimacy scenes with the explosive chemistry K and A have would be nice 😇
But trust it still serves a purpose to their plot. K becomes pregnant. Anthony is ecstatic but Kate is happy yet a bit wearisome.
(I know this next plot point was Anthony's in the books but the show is now mostly separate and I still am sad we didn't get to explore Kate's past a bit more so I've tried to establish it in the show!canon)
We find out Kate's bio mother passed away in child birth when she was 27-8ish (Kate was 5).
Kate is afraid this might be her fate as well but not wanting to dwell and trying to be a new Vicountess she throws herself into family obligations once more. This time helping Francesca with her season.
Anthony can see something is bothering Kate but she is afraid to admit it. One night during a particular bad storm /dream flashback Kate goes to the library to find a book to read. Anthony awakens to find her not in bed so he goes to find her in the library. She is shaking and crying standing at a bookshelf. They finally have a conversation where Kate finally is ready to tell Anthony what has been bothering her. Anthony lovingly chuckles stating he should have known and forgets how much alike they are. He tells her about his fears from before explaining why he was such in a rush to get married last season and tells her he understands but also helps ease her. The scene ends with them sitting on the floor with him reading a book to her remembering how her father used to read to her during the monsoon season.
Anthony calls for Lady Mary the next day and she comes to help Kate too (bringing back the Sharmas for guest appearances too)
My hypothetical S3 plot structure, since Shonda said they are not necessarily following the order.
Plot A: Benedict's story: searching for his mystery person, meeting Sophie, his confidence about his place in the family verses who he is as an individual
Plot B: Anthony and Kate married life (we deserve it) and family/duty as heads of the family including Anthony and Benedict conflict (s2 showed A blindly expecting B to follow his orders and this will come to a head in this hypothetical season) and Kate helping Francesca through her season.
Plot C: Francesca in her season but she is not fully committed until a friend of her's John (she met while with their Aunt in previous seasons) comes into town
And I guess there is a bit of Pen and Colin but I think with the way the show is going Pen and Colin DEFINITELY need a bit a time a part for self discovery. Imo it's too soon for their story in the show. Pen needs a redemption of some sorts imo to reconcile what she has been doing. Because in show!canon she has been targeting the Bridgertons. Good intentions don't always lead to good results. BUT Pen will get a chance to grow as a character in this season

Rambling thoughts/analyses on even more (!) stills:
Buckle in fuckos this is gonna be a long post 🤠
Let’s start with stills we know which ep they’re from:
Tumblr media
1. Episode 2x01 So obviously our mans is courting someone. Most speculate this isn’t Edwina and is another girl—which idk skin tone, might just be the lighting (?)—but my thought is that he might have a montage or a few scenes courting other girls in the ton and being bored out of his mind/deeming them inadequate to be his wife. He looks kinda antsy and ready to leave here to me so this fits. Also, note the room behind them? Lady Danburys home had a lot of roses and warm pinks and this cool lavender doesn’t totally fit that vibe. Could very easily be not Edwina.
Tumblr media
2. Episode 2x01
Our cutie at Lady Ds ball. Every time we see her in this outfit she seems nervous/ in awe. She seems vaguely pleased here—probably going to dance or getting attention. She deserves 🥰
Tumblr media
3. 2x03 Kate having tea. Lots of tea time this season what with ep 1 Anthony tea and ep 4 Kathony + Edwina tea. Thoughts here I actually really like that wig?? Even tho it’s tight? Also new color it’s nice on her but the dress itself I don’t love but she can make anything work. Her cute lil flower too 🥺
Tumblr media
4. 2x03 hdshshfakfnffnsj 😩😮‍💨🥴 we all know how I feel abt a certain Mary sharma (I’m free on Thursday when I am free). With our new crumbs of her always love how they do her hair. She’s GLOWING I’m DROOLING also this might be same tea as with Kate? Lightings different looks like she’s maybe under a tent so I doubt it. I’d also say this looks like Aubrey hall in the background? But eh who knows.
Tumblr media
5. Episode 2x02 Thots here: Anthony looks so old here I want him to keep away from Edwina jfc 😖. Other people have noted same Kate dress and hair as other still with her in purple with the velvet thingy over it when her and Ed are in the garden. Same episode too, but obvi no velvet or gloves. Also Edwina’s a different dress so who knows the timeline of this shit? Edwina changes (bc she gets wet? Actually kinda doubt that) maybe just to see him. She looks happy to see him, poor little girl. Kate looks surprisingly not feral here? Maybe she’s keeping her anger close to the best this ep.
Tumblr media
6. Episode 2x01 more fuckin tea. Clearly before or after the Graham Norton clip that takes place before the debut. Still wondering how they play into Lw and Kathony drama and when Lady D and QC became such good homies??
Tumblr media
7. Episode 2x04 heh heh heh. Wow they’re so subtle. First off. Obsessed. Whores in the wilderness unchaperoned. I’ve seen so many great theories and parallels abt this and deadmund and maybe including flashbacks. To answer my one ask question, his hand is pretty much over hers on the gun and it’s big and the position is awkward and I love it. She’s trying so hard to stay cool. She has her jaunty cap and i like it but it’s so weird from the angle and the lighting on her is also weird oh well. Funny that she insisted on coming along and still he’s teaching her how to shoot. What’s the truth? Are either of em even good at it 😂? If that hat wasn’t there he’d be so close but I love the look on his face so much and how the hat hits his forehead. Still don’t believe they’re having this moment whilst killing animals? Hopefully it’s a target? Anyway this has gotta happen before the pink hall that episode or at least I hope. The tension is real and I’m gonna be in so much pain 😩
Now moving on to stills where we don’t *know* the episode: I think it’s more likely most of these are from early on but they did give us a pen/el still from ep 7 so anything’s possible?
Tumblr media
8. Who knows when this is from but this is so interesting to me. She looks mad like but maybe also disappointed? Like she’ll tell you (Anthony) off but be sad about it. The wigs actually pretty okay and doesn’t distract from the look in her eyes. The sun on her is magnificent. Simones face is so dynamic and interesting in different shadows and angles and I’m always so intrigued by a new dimension of her gorgeousness.
Tumblr media
9. Clearly not a still but you got the idea. It goes with that scene in the trailer obviously. Have seen some speculation maybe it’s from those leaked pap pics of Anthony running after kate in the rain bc of her dark purple but his waist coat doesn’t match so it isn’t quite right. Maybe the pic of Simone in dark dark purple on the horse is still connected tho? I think it’s easy to believe this is a later episode bc of Kate and Anthony placement next to each other. Also how they’re the emo kids of the pic in their dark isolated colors. Whatever the bridgertons are looking at in the street (in front of Aubrey hall I think) must involve kathony Ed Mary and Lady D or else they wouldn’t be in the pic? But if kathony are married and At AH then why is everyone else fuckin there? Is this drama about Kathony or abt Edwina’s journey and they’re all interfering? Is actually a way early episode and the bridgertons are looking on concerned as kathony quarrel in the street (that actually be so funny). A mystery pic fr
Tumblr media
10. Lol ah yes, of course. Anthony’s firth moment (we’ve discussed this show being marketed too heavily on p &p and this isn’t too much imo. It’s a fun reference and promo hasn’t mentioned p and p that much at all. The bath? (From teaser didn’t actually analyze that bc Jesus Christ I have fanfic to write) I think is also another ref.) ANYWAY. episode? Idk. Same scene as the boat pics obviously. He goes crazy (man looks maaad) probably from jealousy and ends up toppling himself.also someone pointed out the ppl in the boat behind him were in the pap pics with Simone. Based on angles it could be the one behind him left but that’s a maybe. Other thoughts I don’t think it has to do with Newton? idk it just seems like a long shot kate bringing her dog to be w mr Dorset? Also idk how this fits with Edwina bc someone asked Chari on Twitter if she was in a fun scene with a lake and she said no. I’m just v confused. But I’d assume maybe this is ep 3? Really just pulling stuff outta my ass with that guess tho bc two seems full.
OKAY APPARENTLY IVE HIT 10 IMAGE LIMIT SO ILL LINK PART 2 WHEN ITS DONE!!
EDIT: THERE ARE MORE STILLS who knows how many parts this will be 🥲

Did you like the book or s2 of bridgerton better?
okay. i've gathered some thoughts after watching s2 (twice!) and while i adored the kate and anthony scenes and their amazing chemistry any time they were in a scene together, i feel like i've finally figured out why i didn't like the season very much
this post got quite long so i'll put it under a cut but tl;dr kate and anthony and the sharmas in general deserve more and better in what was supposed to be their season, but if you watch every single kate and anthony scene out of context in youtube compilations like i've been doing, it was amazing
i think this season's drawback was in structuring itself around a slow burn plotline
and that's so sad to say bc i adore slow burns!! they’re amazing! but the problem with s2 is that that the slow burn plotline doesn't reach a Point. a Peak. a sparkling, earth shattering moment where the build-up, the intense glances, the snide comments, the tension at every turn is finally Worth it
and i think this is bc every kate and anthony scene is always cut short or overshadowed by other useless plotlines in the first half of the season that continue to be dragged out to their boring conclusions in the second half of the season (like the featherington plotline! why! also giving eloise a love interest when she should've been way more focused on a n y t h i n g else like idk sneaking into university classrooms just to sit in on the lectures or seeing her spend more time self-studying wollstonecraft or someone to figure out her own ideas and her own identity rather than the theo plotline that didn't go anywhere or say anything meaningful since they were too busy juggling so many other plotlines in one season that only spans 8 episodes)
so by the time we get to the bee scene we think it'll pick up and we will actually get some forward movement into their story, but no. it just continues to move into this "we can't! but we want to! but we can't!" storyline that doesn't g o anywhere. and yes, you could argue that the pall mall scene also showed them understanding each other and progressing forward in their relationship, but that scene just shows how similar they are as opposed to becoming vulnerable with each other
which is why the library scene rewrite! just made me so upset! bc they gave anthony the panic attack that kate has in the book during the bee scene, and as a result, we don't have a single moment of understanding between the two, we don't get kate's backstory in flashbacks that would lend her any ounce of the same depth and character exploration that anthony gets surrounding his father, and we don't get any forward movement in their relationship or their progression as individuals bc they just spend the scene staring at each other rather than expressing their fears, their relationship to their family, all under the lack of pretense they are allowed to have in this empty room in the dead of night with the rain and thunder drowning out their conversation from the entire world. all of kate's backstory is rewritten and the parts they do tell you are told to you in little lines or long speeches as opposed to Showing you her trauma (which mirrors anthony's trauma!) and the weight of responsibility that she feels as an elder sibling (which again! mirrors anthony's trauma and shows you w h y they would be so compatible instead of just showing these long, intense stare downs and almost kisses and hoping the audience can read in between the lines) so they give her zero depth, nuance, or complexity to her character by getting rid of her panic attack and backstory and her eventual re-grounding like! come on! a strong woman who is so sure of herself and the world and what she wants out of it while hiding her true fears and feelings from everyone else who breaks down from the weight of responsibility but continues to keep going bc she would do anything for her family! come on!!! that would’ve been amazing to see!
and this goes for the rest of the sharmas as well. they rewrote edwina's character and didn't use mary in the story at all because they made kate into a mother figure but feeling responsible for your sister doesn't mean that you needed to sideline mary entirely! she's still a key figure she still knows the world of balls and courtship and could've easily added to their complex family dynamic but instead they barely use her and she's missing from so many crucial scenes and she could've totally teamed up with lady danbury and violet in all their antics!
which takes me back to the slow burn. i feel like i could've handled the season had kate and anthony gotten together in episode 7 instead of the last 15 (?) minutes of the finale. it felt like they wrote the entire season around the wedding episode but every scene in the episode that isn't centered around kate and anthony and edwina is so boring. everyone is just standing around waiting to see if the wedding will happen (also don't get me started on the love triangle thing). they could've easily had the wedding be half of the episode (if they wanted it that badly), had the ball sequence where everyone is dancing at the bridgerton's empty place at the end of the episode, and had edwina realize that kate and anthony clearly love each other which is evident from how happy they are how they're dancing so freely together and she would back away since she loves kate and would do anything for her (and then find herself a bookish nerd to read and discuss and recommend novels to now or in the next season bc she deserves a break)
then! the finale would be open to have a small, intimate wedding with their loved ones (a direct contrast from the showy over-the-top wedding while showing how much kate and anthony care for each other rather than what the anyone else thinks of them), allowed them to have their wedding night, and even kept the very last scene of the finale where they're at aubrey hall together trying out their new roles as a couple, so we would've gotten plenty of them being "enemies" but we still would've had an entire episode of them being "lovers" which is just as important in an enemies to lovers plot
the slow burn would've built up to something! a happy, prolonged conclusion where you get to revel in all these fun moments of longing and nerves and anticipation for kate and anthony's wedding and then the actual wedding itself!
and yes you could still make room for the lady whistledown part 2 reveal and breakup between pen and eloise in there but no annoying featherington plotline to distract you from kate and anthony living their best lives being in love and hot for each other for an entire episode (and colin and benedict can still have their forward movement too to get to the next seasons)
but with how the season plays out, you just cut from the "i love you" "i love you, too" scene immediately to the rest on the ton watching fireworks, and then another cut to kate and anthony in bed already married! we were supposed to see them married! we should've seen then happy and in love for longer than a handful of minutes at the end of the season! (tho i will say the direction in the last two episodes got better. some of the weird swinging camera and out of focus scenes in the middle of the season were confusing)
i feel like the show was structured in a way that they're trying to think about the "bridgertons" as a whole as opposed to each individual couple per season (so maybe in s3 we get edwina back on the marriage market? kate and anthony still get to be major characters for the next sibling's story? maybe even the prince will come back?) but i still feel like we deserved to see more of kate and anthony in love, happy, and content, etc. in their own season
but i did find things i enjoyed about this season! the humor, the sibling dynamics, newton, benedict's humor, daphne knowing kate is The One before anyone else, anthony calling for hyacinth to dance and doing that little pose to wait for her to get down the stairs, the k3g cover, all of the tension between kate and anthony, "how many fingers am i holding," lady danbury and violet eavesdropping, etc. but they're such brief moments that are overshadowed by so many boring storylines that they don't get to shine as much as they could have. out of context, the scenes are so good! but the way they decided to write out the plotline for this season was just. ugh. which makes me so sad bc i loved kate and anthony's book! and the way they rewrote the characters for the show! they had the schematics they only had to build on top of it but. sigh.
tl;dr part 2 bc this got quite long!! idk w h y kate and anthony with their amazing chemistry were pushed to the sidelines of their own season for the sake of other plotlines that weren't anywhere near as interesting as any time they were in a scene together. edwina and mary deserved way more and way better than they got. kate deserves to have a well-rounded and well-crafted backstory. if s3 doesn't have all of the romance scenes that kate and anthony deserved to have in s2 i will riot!!

I like a messy heroine and the affair / cheating is what made S2 high stakes and interesting for me. But I was disappointed because I feel like they made Kate look *too* bad and consequently kind of undermined her as the heroine a little bit. They went to painstaking lengths to explain why Anthony acts as he does but I don’t think Kate got similar consideration. Ep 6 especially is everyone thrashing her but we never get her perspective. Kate just takes it and doesn’t defend (or at least explain) herself. So the audience is left only with Edwina’s POV basically. I felt a lot of S2 Kate was somehow simultaneously a non-entity and a villain in her own love story. Anthony got several showcase episodes and Kate got zero. Ep 6 should’ve focused on her more imo - it’s her lowest moment when all of her (well intentioned but ultimately deceitful) efforts come crashing down.
I don't agree that they made Kate too flawed, tho I see where you're coming from with the idea she didn't get the time and dialogue to explain herself (or even just scenes like flashbacks to give more context to her). Like I understood why Kate did the things she did and I sympathized, and arguably most of the viewers did, too. But she still deserved a bit ~more. I'm not sure Kate was capable of really defending herself more in episode 6 because she felt so terrible, but at the same time, what was needed was maybe 2 fewer big speeches by Edwina, which I've said before lol. Like Edwina deserved her moment to really flip out, but then the writers got carried away and we got one Shondaland dramatic monologue after another when the issue of "what will Edwina do now" should've been decided within minutes, not 45 minutes. We could've wrapped up the wedding early and then spent ep 6 at home with the Sharmas, and maybe Kate talking to Mary about everything, if Edwina didn't wanna her from her. (and also more Kate and Anthony interacting, kissing, having sex, earlierrrr)

Some thoughts about Bridgerton s2
- Loved all the Kathony scenes and they had amazing chemistry, but I feel that we could get more of them. There wasn't enough of them in their own season.
- My favorite Kathony scene? Hmmm I really liked the mud scene (it was so playful and fun, until it wasn't), and the scene where he tells her that India or any other place isn't far enough (you know which one I'm talking about)
- Too much of the Featherington and the Whistledown storyline, personally I don't care about them. I can only hope that Kate and Anthony will get as much attention on Penelope's season (even though I am not planning on watching).
- Even though I loved the last Eloise/Penelope scene and how Eloise called her out, I wasn't really a fan of hers this season. She was very annoying, her feminism very surface level to the point of giving not-like-other-girls vibes. I understand what the writers are trying to do with her, but to me it doesn't work.
- I am happy that Marina is fine with her twins, and that isn't miserable. She deserves it.
- I didn't like what they did with Edwina's character and really hated the love triangle part. There was no love triangle or even a rift between the sisters in the book, so it's a shame the show decided to do this. It could have been done better overall.
- THANK GOD there was no "love beats racism and colonialism" or whatever they did in s1. I loved the little bits in jewelry and language that showcased the Sharma family's culture, but also the scenes like the Haldi ceremony.
- The Bridgerton family dynamic was top-notch. Again, we could get more of them instead of a certain other family.
- I wished we got the full backstory of Kate's fear of thunderstorms. It would have balanced Anthony's backstory. We were robbed of little Kate's flashbacks.
- Nothing really about the show itself but Ashley Simone's skin is so smooth. I kept staring at her face.
Anyway, it was a solid season, better than the first for sure. It could have been better, but the main romance was great.

Can I ask if you have any expentations of Benedict this season? what are you expecting to see of him?
I really want them to explore his relationship with Anthony. I'd like to see him being a soundboard while his brother is complaining about what a menace the older Miss Sharma is andBenedict's just nodding along, all the time thinking "oh this idiot's got it bad". I hope we get to see more of the dynamic between the two oldest brothers because there's quite a gap between Ben and Colin and yet in Season 1 we saw more of them together than Ant and Ben. I think it'll be interesting if we get flashbacks to the aftermath of Edmund's death and you see a real change in the dynamic between Anthony and Benedict going from carefree brothers to Anthony suddenly becoming the head of the family and taking things far too seriously. He hasn't the time to kick back and relax and it would be interesting to see him snapping at Ben, maybe even making a dig at his brother's love of art saying something along the lines of "we can't all sit around doodling all day, some of us have got to be adults". Before Edmund's death Benedict would have both his parents and Anthony to confide in and express his frustrations to, but with Edmund dead, Violet grieving, and Anthony only just getting by, Benedict doesn't have anyone to turn to for comfort. He gets sidelined by Anthony and I think once Colin is older, Benedict one again feels as though he has a brother he can have a bit of fun with who doesn't put him on edge. I thought it was interesting in the first season that Anthony and Benedict didn't have much to do together apart from Anthony ordering him to dance with Daphne, and then out of nowhere Benedict being dragged into a duel where Anthony was all casually like "btw if I die you're in charge" (which within reason, Benedict should be quite bitter about and bare a grudge for how drastically his life might have all changed). As Anthony comes to terms with his own issues this season I think he'll find solace in Benedict in much the way they used to back as kids. He can't go to their mother because she'd give her two cence and he doesn't want to hear their married sister spouting her opinions on true love - whereas with Benedict he can vent his frustrations and know his younger brother will just sit and listen. I'd like to see after seven episodes of Benedict dealing with Anthony's crap that one day he just bursts and dares Anthony to just try and be happy with a wife he clearly adores. I want Benedict to say something along the lines of "I wish I could be in a position where everyday I wake up to the woman I love and when I'm with her nothing else matters and I can forget about everything that I hate about myself - if I had what you have, I don't think I could find any reason to moan or feel sorry for myself every again". When Anthony finally expresses his love to Kate, it'd be nice to have a big family scene at the end of the season (like with all the family waving Colin off at the end of Season 1) where Anthony thanks his brother for giving him a kick up the arse, and wishing that Benedict finds the love of his life sooner, remarking that they both deserve to be happy. Benedict scoffs; "I doubt it" - and then we cut to a glimpse of the masquerade ball, with a voiceover of Anthony from the previous scene replying to Benedict; "Trust me brother, the love of your life is on her way and she'll show up just when you're least expecting it" and we see Benedict turning, someone catching his eye and reverence crossing his face; end of Season 2.

it is my post-reblog duty to pop in and ask.. Have you seen all of Bridgerton s2? Have you read the books???? I MUST Know your thoughts!! (or thots, both work 😆)
dom omg omg HIIII!!!
okay so first of all i havent read the books hdjjss i had no idea they existed before s1 came out on netflix lol. and okay for s2 i literally only have the finale left to watch which ill watch tmr after i get my test out of the way :(( but i literally watched all 7 episodes in one day yesterday so that should give you an indication as to how much i LOVED it 🥴
okay putting the rest of my thoughts under read more cause i have WAY too many:
okay first of all THOTS- anthony bridgerton is SO fine. SO SO fine. that SCENE with him falling in the lake and coming out with the see through shirt i think i almost passed away...... literally dick me down sir.
MORE THOTS- kate sharma is SO fine. SO SO fine. every single fuckin scene with her is INSANE i cannot stop staring at her face it is literally so angular and pointy and pretty and her EYES omfggggg i am in love with both of them what a great day to be bisexual!
okay now onto THOUGHTS dhjsjsjs first of all stating the obvious-- kate and anthony's chemistry>>>>>>> omfg it is acc insane how good their chemistry is i stg they both deserve ALL the awards?!?? i loved ALL their scenes from their rivalry scenes with them acting like kids at the horse race and her shutting the door in his face the first day edwina had to meet her suitors hdjsjs. and then that GODDAMN bee scene- anthony freaking out over the bee and getting ptsd flashbacks i wanted to reach across the scene and give him a hug 🥺🥺🥺
also ANTHONY's CHARACTER development compared to season 1??? i literally loathed that man is season 1 and now he's literally my fav character like hes so grey like yes he's still a dick and rigid and stubborn but like i can understand why?? like his backstory is SOO tragic and the man's just trying his best and he deserves nothing BUT the best
okay okay now this is getting long so imma just sum up all my other opinions a la rapidfire: need more simon, loved lady danbury as always she forever remains a bad b, the whole sharma family is STUNNING, loved that they payed homage to the indian culture, kinda eh about edwina so far up until e7 like yes kate hurt her but i feel like shes a bit too harsh and her emphasizing 'half-sister' made me so upset, theo is SO cute i wanna squish his cheeks, i LOVE benedict with my whole heart and soul, marina was unnecessarily rude dont like her much, GOD i cannot wait for the fallout between pen & eloise, the featherington was weird and unnecessary and the whole cousin daughter mother love triangle dynamic was WEIRD, love the classical renditions of pop songs oh and yeah-- KANTHONY>>>>>>
