Let's talk about Louis
Oh boy is Jacob Anderson phenomenal! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 He elevated Louis from a background character to a blazing fire at the heart of the show, filled with complex intensity and depth.
Tumblr media
As a lover of Anne's ouvre since 2004, I was skeptical when I first heard that they were diverging from the book Louis, but I actually really really like the undercurrent of race and the complexities that this fantastic casting adds to the story. It makes it feel so relevant and gives Louis a riveting agency.
Tumblr media
This Louis has a ferocity to him, a combattiveness born from years of having to fight harder, stay cooler, achieve higher despite his vircumstances. Its an electrifying new twist on the character, and it's easy to see why Lestat is besotted with him. It will make it all the more gut wrenching when Louis falls into depression later in the story. It's also a nice contrast to see the difference between that raw, scrappy, defiant young man, and the cool collected vampire in the interview room. Evidences how much he's been though, how much he's lived.
Tumblr media
And of course this takes me to Jacob Anderson. He brings Louis to life in a way which is so real, so relatable and nuanced. His range is incredible and the subtlties of emotion he manages to convey with his face and posture... just riveting. A truly incredible actor, who has breathed new life into Anne's character with a sincerity that astounds. 🔥👌🏼 He inspires our imaginations and breaks our hearts.

sorry the more i think about it the more im so sure lestat’s death didn’t go the way louis said it did. there’s just something about louis being completely besotted with and entranced by lestat at the party after having fallen in love him again >>> to him so assuredly and so calmly slitting his throat >>> to him (as revealed) being so distraught and shattered by his death that he cradles his corpse sobbing and turns on claudia to preserve it, that doesn’t track. and it just really really really makes me think that another part of louis’ fabrication is that lestat went quietly. there was just something about watching their entire scene of tender slaughter while lestat waxes poetic about their bond and how glad he is that it was louis who killed him that was so romantic and so moving but so theatrical it almost didn’t seem real. and then daniel pushes those buttons for us and forces the truth to the surface and we see louis’ actual reaction and that somehow makes so much more sense (everybody say thank you daniel) like there is such a likelihood that that version of lestat’s death was a scene from the romanticized lens of a louis who is too traumatized to face how it actually went down. that lestat could very well have went kicking and screaming and begging to live.

What would have happened if Carlisle had hooked up with Louis de Pointe du Lac (from Interview with the Vampire) before creating Edward?
Pffft.
Hilarity and awkwardness.
Caveat
First, I don't think Carlisle would.
The pair are superficially similar but Louis is a very different man. He's... much more like Edward, actually (a vastly more sane Edward but bear with me here). It's not so much the sanctity of life that drives him (the man was a slave owner canonically) but the aesthetics: Louis does not wish to be a blood drinking demon, he has this preconception that vampires are these aristocratic European creatures with a wealth of knowledge (delightfully untrue by the way), and all of his misery and angst is not so much over what he does do (which is terrible) but over how he appears.
Like Edward, Louis does not like being a vampire because it means he's a vampire, not so much because he has to devour humans (which, of course, is why he doesn't last on rats and does give into eating people, including children and babies).
In other words, for Carlisle, Louis maaaaaybe a step up from the Denali. He tried the diet, with a bit more persuasion/cheerleading he might try again (though Lestat would cut Carlisle), but he has his priorities in the wrong order.
Also, depending when Carlisle meets him, he's fucking a five year old (Oh Claudia).
And I don't see Carlisle as a one-night stand kind of guy.
But Alright, Fine
Carlisle meets Louis first, who at least tried the diet, and is over the moon. Lestat just dies, "OH NO, NOT ANOTHER LOSER" and cries that this means he's even less likely to be able to sleep with Louis (who has no idea that Lestat is very very gay and very very into him).
I imagine Carlisle tries to persuade Louis to leave Lestat and NOPE, LESTAT AIN'T HAVING THAT. Lestat pulls the Claudia move and probably throws Carlisle out a window and into a swamp after lighting him on fire. Given we're now presumably in the Twilight universe, Carlisle gets the joys of eating alligators and his limbs crawling back together.
You can never really get the smell of swamp out.
Next Carlisle catches up to Louis things have gotten... weird. Specifically, Lestat has created an immortal child that Louis seems besotted with.
Well fuck.
Carlisle reluctantly has to travel to Italy to tell Aro who then has to murder Carlisle's new friend. Aro wins, because Carlisle probably doesn't leave Volterra after this, he just can't, not when Louis was the only hope he found and then this happened.

i’m horny for vampires on main so . . .
diavolo living in a big isolated villa in the middle of the italian countryside; his aide/renfield/familiar (whatever term you want to use) (doppio) is the only person whomst he sees. once a year or something he and doppio go Out To The Big Cities (maybe halloween where his pallor and his general being isn’t so spooky) and he catches a glimpse of you at an expensive bar or club that he’s patrolling for a victim, on the arm of someone who doesn’t deserve you, and he’s just absolutely besotted suddenly with the smell of your blood in the air and the way the light hits your skin and the colour of your eyes and he implores doppio that all other avenues for the night are unimportant, he wants you spirited away to his villa to be his lover and pet and eventual immortal bride/groom/partner for life--
abbacchio and bruno as some kind of lestat/louis couple. if you think that bruno isn’t the lestat in this scenario you’re wrong; bruno finds abbacchio after his Police Related Accident and convinces him to start anew as a creature of the night but bruno is also aware that abbacchio’s still beating himself up and thinks perhaps he needs something else to tie him to his new existence and one night they catch sight of you and bruno sees how abbacchio lights up . . . so, oh dear, looks like bruno and abbacchio are sweet talking you back to their shared apartment to turn you into a vampire too--
prosciutto as a vampire assassin for hire; he’s still involved in passione and la squadra but his . . . defect means that he stays a little more away from the team. he has all kinds of lovers and tries not to catch feelings, but on one of his hits he’s supposed to be killing you and he’s certainly not expecting you to pull a stake out from beneath your dress where it’s been strapped to your thigh and tell him, voice only trembling a little; “I know what you are”. he’s always wondered about fucking a vampire hunter. he’s fascinated and you’re passionate and if it turns out the hit was an elaborate ploy to get him slain, nobody needs to know that actually it ended up very differently--

;; the AU where the sirens achieved fame and besotted the Mane Sixless world is called “Besotted World.”
It’s an experiment rn. I’ll add AU Adagio and this AU to the main page if things go well. So far I like the idea a lot. I enjoyed the book Queen of the Damned a lot and Lestat’s struggle when he wakes Akashaj and realizes it’s not what he wants. Likewise, Adagio realizing she doesn’t want her sister’s to be machines fueled by hate is something I’m fond of.
