#Maester Conspiracy
Text
I always find it funny when those who support the Greens cling to Daemon’s (supposedly) evil acts and atrocities committed, to justify them overthrowing the king’s chosen heir, while also completely ignoring their own side.
Aegon is a proven rapist and frequent child abuser, who might even be a pedophile as well, depending on how you interpret the comment that he prefers the more “unsavory” brothels. He has bastards, whom he has fight in fighting pits. He is an absolute monster.
Helaena is an innocent victim. I’ll give you that. I feel bad for what is to come for her.
Aemond is a kinslaying psychopath. I don’t get those who seem to look forward to him and Alys. He killed her entire family and then took Alys, a prisoner of war, into his bed. Sounds like rape and a war crime to me. His actions cause so much pain. Burns the Riverlands, killing thousands, and his actions are the reason Jaehaerys is brutally massacred.
Daeron is an unknown entity, though he doesn’t seem evil, just a dutiful young man and another victim of his family’s misplaced ambition.
Alicent is a terrible person. She sneakily crept into the bed of her best friend’s father, not even six moons after his wife died in the birthing bed. I’d be surprised if the birthing blood had dried yet. She raised her sons to be hateful little monsters, and inspired their base and disgusting behavior. She was abusive and an all-round horrible mother. Every bad thing that will happen to her family is because of her. She hides behind her false piety, while she is out here allowing dudes to wank one out over her feet the day her husband died. Alicent is no victim, she hasn’t been one in a very long time. She could have had Larys seized, but she didn’t because she wants him working for her and not her father. Manipulative and disgusting.
Larys is a kinslayer of the worst kind. No problem with the foot fetishism, to everyone their own. Though I do find a dude called the Clubfoot having a thing for feet a little on the nose.
Criston Cole is truly an incel. He had one whiff of pussy and upon being rejected started spouting every incel/MRA talking-point out there. He is just a sad and pathetic person wearing a mask and clinging to his false Faith and his white cloak, pretending to be someone he is not.
Otto is a jealous little troll, who did everything in his power to destroy the House of the Dragon. I am a firm believer in the Oldtown Conspiracy, and that the Faith, the Citadel and House Hightower conspired to overthrow the Dragonlords and install Hightowers on the Iron Throne. He cares for nothing but himself. He is an almost one-dimensional villain.
That said, while the Greens are shit, they wouldn’t have been able to pull this off if not for two people: Jaehaerys and Viserys.
Jaehaerys was no conciliator, he was a capitulator. He kneeled to the Faith, was a shit father to his daughter, clearly a rampant misogynist, and allowed these “lesser” Andal lords a say in the governing and succession of the House of the Dragon. His entire shtick about Targaryen exceptionalism was thrown out the window the moment he didn’t want a woman on the throne. He is the root of all evil. Alysanne was a far better queen than he was a king.
Ah, Viserys the Peaceful. More like Viserys the Fool. The only reason he even sat the throne was because his brother assembled an army for him. Well, that and because his grandfather was clearly a deep-rooted women-hater. He was a moron. I saw someone describe him as using his kindness and peaceful nature to cloak what hides beneath: weakness. He was so easily manipulated and his actions led to the death of the dragons.
It is no coincidence it all went wrong for the Targaryens the moment the King wed an Andal. You can disagree with Daemon's Valyrian supremacy all you'd like, but he was right. The moment they "bred" with lesser beings, it all went to shit. They should have kept it to the Velaryons, Celtigars, Baratheons or the bastard Valyrians from the Free Cities.
The Greens’ treason caused the death of the dragons and was the reason the Seven Kingdoms were unprepared for the Night King and his armies.

The funniest part about the Maester Conspiracy is that targ stans are sitting here willingly admitting that their faves who had literal DRAGONS, the ultimate power in Planetos, got rolled by a bunch of middle aged men whose job duties were *checks notes* reading books, writing down historical events, and keeping track of dates or whatever, like it's fucking hilarious.
Truly the biggest flop house in Westeros.
I... don't think that the Maesters' work is so preposterous as to render their positions without merit, power or influence. What is this, jocks laughing at nerds? The order is exclusionary and misogynistic, but it's the only proper science institute that Westeros has. I myself am a historian so that description seems needlessly disdainful; those activities are important.
Anyway, my take on the Maester Conspiracy is that it's plausible inasmuch as it's plausible that the biologists within the Order would be very interested in studying how dragons actually work. Would they really turn their noses at the chance to examine a dragon? I don't think so. And it just so happens that two dragons have resided in Oldtown, namely Tessarion and Morning. There are also Marwyn's words, who is generally more open-minded when it comes to magic.
I don't think the maesters were off secretly assassinating Targaryens or scaling the Dragonpit to poison dragons, but it is curious that Morning, the only tame dragon left, had such a short life and died not long after the Dance. Morning is also mentioned to be a she-dragon; a dragon's gender is classified as female if she happened to lay eggs. Where are Morning's eggs? What happened to her? Maybe this is what Marwyn is alluding to.

It's a bit over the top to think that the maesters are behind every thing but what makes you think that?
Mostly due to the maester conspiracy theory which I'm in full support. in case you haven't heard it, let me summarize it a bit.
In asoiaf there are a few characters who express their distrust of the maesters. In A Dance With Dragons, Barbrey Dustin (who is a northern lady) calls the maesters “grey rats” and points out the fact that they hold a great deal of power over the lords they serve.
Maesters write and send all of the letters for their lords and they can very easily manipulate the words for their own ends. Barbrey suggests that the maesters orchestrated the events that led to Robert’s Rebellion and the displacement of the Targaryen dynasty.
The evidence for this is pretty scarce ofc, but it’s true that lords and ladies put blind faith in the maesters and trust them with pretty much everything, and we see that in f&b and before the conquest we're told how important the maesters are how all these kings and households relied on them for everything
Not to mention that the maesters are also directly in charge of the healthcare of their lords and have extensive knowledge of not only medicine, but also poison - which is also one of the reason why there are theories that some princes have been killed by them - like prince Baelon for example (because it was unlikely that Viserys wouldn't be named heir and him being young and trustful would be much more easy to control. Same theory goes for some targaryen women who all seem to die in childbirth - a place only maesters are allowed in. For the dance era there's the theory that Aemma was killed so Alicent could be made queen. Her family is from Oldtown - a place where the faith has the strongest hold and loyalty and these people have been trying to put a queen of their own since Maegor)
The conspiracy isn't rooted just on theories. There are hints in the books. For instance, in at the end of Feast for Crows, Sam Tarly arrives at the Citadel and meets Marwyn the Mage, an archmeaster known for his eccentric behavior and expertise in magic. Marwyn is somewhat of a pariah at the Citadel because of his dabbling in the magical arts, and because he spent years in the mysterious city of Assai.
Who do you think killed all the dragons the last time around? Gallant dragonslayers armed with swords? The world the Citadel is building has no place in it for sorcery or prophecy or glass candles, much less for dragons.
in f&b, there are maesters who narrate the story and they don't hide how ill they think of the Targaryens, their magical blood or dragons. They prize logic, reason and power above all else. They are distrustful of all things magical and wondrous, which is why it's believed they've been trying to bring down the Targaryens.
After everything that happened with Maegor the Cruel, they realized aggressive stance wouldn't get them anywhere. So they made "peace" with Jaehaerys and tried to stir him with influence - which worked pretty well and kept working for years after.
if you're interested in reading more about the conspiracy I'm going to link a very interesting reddit thread from 2012 that goes into full detail about it 💕

Young Rhaenyra getting revenge au part 2
"I intend to marry... the lady Alicent Hightower"
With those words, Otto had finally tasted victory. All the hard work he put to secure the crown for his blood has finally been paid off. He would forever be known as the hand of two kings and the grandfather of a king. Books will speak of how a second son of a minor house has risen from having no inheritance to having his blood on the iron throne. Otto started playing the game of thrones when he first arrived at the court and he put his eyes on Baelon. Now Aemma had finally died with no living sons as Mellos promised. The only loss he experienced was some coin when he had the seamstress get Alicent's measurements to alter his late wife dresses. Still some coin to alter dresses is no loss compared to having to buy new dresses.
Now that Viserys will marry Alicent, he has to make plans of his own to secure other houses and ensure their loyalty to his grandson. Other houses will feel slighted over the king's choice in bride, especially since everyone believed that lady Laena will become queen. No one knew that there were other options. Some tongues will speak of seduction which may hurt his grandson's ascension but if Otto played his cards right, then he can placate major houses. Luckily this marriage comes with a free Valyrian princess that he can barter now. A Valyrian princess who would be disinherited soon but the promise of having dragon riders will entice every house. There are so many options. If Otto convinced Viserys to wed her to a Lannister, he will have the most coin at his disposal. He can also convince Viserys to wed her to Laenor Velaryon. The Velaryons have dragons and even if Viserys is blind, Otto knows that they can use those dragons against the crown. A union between the princess and Laenor will not hurt his grandson. His spies in the Stepstones talk of the preference of heir Velaryon. There would be no contestants to his grandson's throne if the princess had a fruitless marriage. If they had children, he can always employ Mellos to act.
"NO" Looks like the princess will be disinherited sooner than anticipated.
"What?"
"No your grace, you cannot marry the lady Alicent Hightower"
The king and the princess are going back and forth. Otto had known the king for a long time and can recognize signs of him getting frustrated, Daemon-level frustrated.
"I'm talking about Maegor father, surly you remember that he married a Hightower girl"
It seems Otto had underestimated the brat. He had thought she was making a fool of herself but she had just likened the weakest king to Maegor by using the Hightower name. As the exchange continued, Otto surveyed the lords on the council and their reactions. Otto had often used Maegor to warn the king off of Daemon and he had always seen the lords agreeing in varying degrees to what he is saying. This is the first time that Maegor had been used against the Hightowers. Everyone had lost loved ones to Maegor and now everyone is looking at the king and Alicent in horror too, seeing the similarities. Maegor had not always been cruel after all.
Otto had been so fixated at the reaction of everyone in the council room and how to fix this that he had not heard the king's request until delicate hands touched his arm.
"Father?" a tentative voice came out.
"What?" Otto replied back harshly, ripping his arm from the girl.
"The king was asking something of you"
Indeed when Otto focused back on the room, everyone was looking at him.
"I apologize your Grace. My mind was elsewhere"
"It is no problem ser Otto. I was reassuring Rhaenyra that you are an honorable man and would swear an oath that no child from my marriage with Alicent will contest Rhaenyra's claim to the throne."
WHAT?

The largest uprising in Kings landing wasn't a french revolution kind of deal, it was headed by a faith of the seven zealot and his followers who thought dragons were demons, I'm not sure why everyone thinks it's a small folk uprising over helaena, when it's again a cornerstone of maester conspiracy

It'd be extra twisted if the maester lied to Viserys about Aemma needing a caesarean... and would explain why she was so confused about what was happening

I gotta say, that I’m really getting into the tinfoil-y parts of ASOIAF and I am loving it! I love my Hightower/Grand-Maester/Anti-Dragon conspiracy or the dark magick witchy shit Leyton Hightower must be getting up to at the Hightower (I mean, it must be dark creepy shit if he hasn’t been seen for decades). Or the creepiness of Patchface… 😬

A wild Maester conspiracy to me is Otto, the Hightowers and Maester killed Aemma just so Alicent would be Queen 🤡
To me if anyone is to blame for Aemma's death it's Viserys "I play favorites" Targaryen.
Just looking at the timelines too Aemma had married very very young and Viserys immediately started knocking her up she had multiple misscrages before Rhaenyra. Keep in mind at that point Alicent wasn't even remotely in the picture.
Yeah, no, I think the maesters killing Aemma is just nonsense. BUT you could imagine a plausible scenario in which the maesters expect Aemma to keel over sooner or later as a result of her many childbirth complications and them, not necessarily "collaborating", but discussing this issue with Otto/House Hightower, in the context of Otto having one daughter of marriable age, in order to forward the interests of Oldtown as a whole.

I know people credit the deaths of targaryen children w maesters and for good reason but I can’t help but notice the pattern between dragon eggs being reared/hatching and targaryen women being pregnant and/or experiencing miscarriages :( I’m more leaning on the idea that certain maesters know the blood magic behind how dragons are born and taking advantage of it or maliciously studying it.

the funniest implication of the maester conspiracy theory is that presumably vaegon knew because theres zero way he didnt find out about it at some point if all the other maesters were in on it so he knew all about the maesters plans to destroy house targaryen and kill the dragons but he just didnt care and in fact requested to be part of the maester plot to off jaehaerys because hating comes first and foremost for vaegon

“When I look at you I don’t see a monster. It’s much worse than that. I see a sacrifice.”
-Dennis Kelly
Tumblr media
They say that Targaryens are closer to gods than men. Alicent is fifteen and she will be the first one to slay a god.
She gives birth to four gods, golden like the sun. She raises them like lamb to the slaughter, her mortality an offering to their altar.
In the end their blood still run red.
