3) Jerome Adams // Blinking as I make sure I am seeing things correctly

Imagine that Jerome can be... casual?? And it's genuinely a decent outfit. It's a bit Artem-core with the black turtleneck, but the necklace leans more towards Marius' style. Also, the coat is a clever replacement for his usual lab coat and is maybe more reminiscent of Luke or Vyn. Running into him at this point in the story may be surprising, but what is even more shocking is that he has more than one outfit in his storage.

2) Luke Pearce // Widened eyes, gasping in shock

Hearing Luke hanging out undercover is one thing. SEEING his undercover outfit is another. This is definitely straight from his wardrobe because I'm pretty sure it's his skateboarding outfit! Who knew Agent Raven could still look intimidating with a headband and a funky shirt?

1) Marius von Hagen // Full on double take + hands clasped over the mouth, like "he DID NOT just do that"

Main story 11.1-01 was full of so many moments, and this was definitely one of them. For Marius to enter such a tense moment between Vyn and Matthew (at this point, we haven't been told that the gun is airsoft) -- and to enter LIKE THIS, in his BEACH OUTFIT, coming from a (FAKE) BEACH PARTY is an incredible moment. The confidence you'd need to have in order to do that. The sheer nonchalance of the whole act. The incredible juxtaposition of being in a fancy house with two fancy gentlemen and walking in with your Hawaiian shirt and swimming trunks. It's a power move. Much like Luke, Marius doesn't need to wear a suit and tie in order to deliver a carefully veiled threat.

Just woke up and I'm thinking about this AU I've been tossing in my brain for over a year now thanks to a Maid Cafe AU prompt over @priapus-at-the-gate. This isn't really a proper maid cafe fic though, like Armand's working there but he uses it as a way to meet clients for fetish work.

I had the idea to structure it as a one-shot with five different sections, one section per client. So there's Marius on Mondays, Santino on Tuesdays, Lestat on Wednesdays, Louis on Thursdays, and Daniel on Fridays. And I wanted each guy to correspond to a couple specific kinks!

Marius: I don't know if Marius and Armand ever actually leave the cafe but Marius comes in every Monday and all he wants is a private room where he can perch Armand on his knee in that skimpy maid outfit and order the entire sweets menu and two jugs of milk and feed him like a child until his stomach is protruding and sloshing. Not sure whether or not they fuck (uncomfortably - for Armand) afterwards. Armand views this as feederism but to Marius it's caretaking, perhaps even age play--the verdict is still out.

Santino: I'm going to have to consult with the Santino girlies (gnc) on this one but I'm thinking something to with flagellation and sensory deprivation. Maybe even breath play. But I can't decide if I want Santino doing to Armand or Armand doing it to Santino.

Lestat: Lestat's the young, bratty, famous rockstar who walked into the cafe one day and without even knowing whether or not Armand was inclined to do fetish work, offered Armand an obscene amount of money to step on him and degrade him, amongst other stuff. There will also be crying and mommy kink. Maybe Lestat will cry for his mommy, idk yet.

Louis: Louis is a bit of an echo of Santino's deprivation kink but he's nowhere near as extreme. Louis prefers to edge himself and he'll never remove his clothes or let himself cum or even be touched, but he's one of two of the clients Armand would trust in his home, and Louis pays a pretty price to spend the day as a silent, passive observer in Armand's apartment. Watching him clean, see a movie, cook, shower, masturbate, and sleep. Never interacting with him or saying a word aside from a warm 'Hello' and 'Thank you, see you next week.'

Daniel: I wanna open with Daniel as being the guy who pays Armand to spend the day with him and pretend to be his boyfriend aka The Boyfriend Experience™️! They go on dates, they cuddle, they play video games, Armand meets Daniel's mom, they fuck, etc. BUT THEN at the end it's revealed that Daniel really is Armand's boyfriend. Sometimes he even fucks him in front of Louis.

I was talking with @everyonewasabird about Cosette’s situation towards the end of the book, and realized that,from Cosette’s POV:

-Marius told her he was going to need to miss seeing her for an evening; that meant two days. He refuses to tell her why, and he gives her Courfeyrac’s address. (4.8.6) He makes vague allusions to some men he knows, and gives her Courfeyrac’s name and address, because something might happen, one never knows” .   When he is convincing her of the need for him to leave for an evening, he tells her, in doing this , “ "Let us sacrifice one day in order to gain our whole lives, perhaps."

-the day after Marius and Cosette skip their nightly meeting for the first time ever, the June Revolt happens. 

- the day after that, Jean Valjean is also gone , the whole day and until early the next morning. There is absolutely no way Cosette doesn’t know he’s gone. But she’s used to her dad disappearing for a day or two, she might not think too much about it....

- except Cosette learns after the revolt that Marius was severely wounded on the barricades.  She pretty much has to learn this from her father; no one else she knows even knows who Marius is!

- after Marius wakes up, everyone, including Cosette, reasonably now assumes him to be a srs bsns republican revolutionary. She also must learn that Courfeyrac, and all Marius’ other friends, have died in pursuit of that revolution.

-the only thing Valjean and Marius really talk about to any degree is politics. (5.5.7)

-Hugo notes several times that Marius and Valjean have an obvious air of two men with a secret between them. (5.5.7, 5.7.1). Cosette has gathered enough to believe the things they won’t talk to her about are political (5.7.1).

-Valjean does his best to convince Cosette that all his strange behavior after his confession, and even the condition of their meeting room, and the short time they meet, is his doing and according to his wishes entirely.  He won’t elaborate. He’s just. Meeting his daughter. In near-secret.  and refusing to meet her any other way.

Under a name Cosette doesn’t know. 

HMMMM.  

- What I’m saying is, it would be completely and entirely fair for Cosette to think that her (known revolutionary!!)  husband and her (always mysterious!) dad are involved in political conspiracy  that they are refusing to tell her about for all the usual reasons people might keep a political conspiracy secret.  It would even be very reasonable for her to conclude they met through the uprising. 

A household with Political Conspiracy happening would even fit in comfortably with Hugo’s own life experiences!--his mom and her lover had plotted against Napoleon, without him knowing. 

What does this change? I don’t know. Nothing, necessarily?  but Hugo doesn’t really consider Cosette’s  POV and interiority at all here, so I want to do it more, and that led me here, and now you too.

thinking about marius and cosette, how what makes their chemistry work (at least for me) is the fact that they're constantly noticing each other and in the same area without ever interacting. the romantic thing about it is the tension you get when there's someone you're aware of and you're always noticing them and you never talk but it just always makes you wonder about them and what talking to them would be like. and how you feel like they must be aware of you too but you don't know for sure and that just makes you wonder more

basically i would just love to read a modern au fic where someone makes it work that their equivalent to this is being neofriends on neopets and literally all the time when they're on neopets they see that the other person is on and they always want to neomail but they never do lmao, cus it's like the same vibe

and i also just have to talk about my own modern au 😊 cus i think i adapt this whole thing really well too. basically they're all preteens going into teens and cosette used to live with eponine's family but was adopted by valjean and they live on the other side of town, which is also the other side of town from marius and the other guys, who all become friends with eponine. cosette meets everyone besides marius and eponine at the public pool, which is their perpetual hang out spot during summers (marius is always at his grandfather's house/mansion the whole entire summer, eponine's parents are banned from the pool and probably wouldn't let her go anyway). she learns that they know eponine, so she lies and says she doesn't know eponine. that's kind of getting away from the point here but the consequence of it is that cosette can't see the guys during the school year, cus like besides going to the pool (which valjean knows eponine's parents are banned from, so it's safe) they're practically hermits, and it's too dangerous letting cosette start hanging out somewhere where eponine very well could be (it's a plot hole basically, but i'm okay with it lol). and basically the purpose of all this is just making it so that cosette and marius never meet, despite being part of the same friend group (and just like, to make angst for cosette lol). and what happens as a natural result of this is that their friends tell them a lot about each other, so they get a sense of what they're like and they just seem so sweet and cool. and it's mainly just frustrating that they can't meet each other (only one high school in this town, so they will eventually, but it seems like such a long time to wait). so basically, they're not interacting and in this they're not even seeing each other, but there's still that tension, because all the tension is is awareness without interaction, and this is definitely awareness even if it's not in person. honestly i haven't focused much on this specific way of looking at it because i didn't really realize it was such a crucial part of marius and cosette as a concept lol, but now i want to retroactively lean into it more. but yeah i can't help it it's just so cute that they get crushes on each other without ever meeting, just through what they learn about each other through their friends, it's adorable!
