oh my GOSH I love Matilda so much!! saw it for the second time tonight and so much more to unpick

the little themes from different songs coming in the background here and there!

just the sheer amount of choreography (and very complex too!) that the cast and especially the young cast have to learn!!

just watched the brazilian production of matilda the musical and to the surprise of no one i cried. to the surprise of some, 4 times.

#it was soooo good #i love matilda so much #in all its forms #but especially the musical #i went to london when i was 13 and my parents asked me if there was anything i wanted to do and they’d see if they could fit it #and i asked to see matilda the musical in the west end #it was too expensive for the whole family to go to but my mom took me #it was amazing i’ll never forget seeing when i grow up live and just bursting into tears #and now it’s 8 years later and i took my mom (and my aunt) to watch the brazilian production and it was just as great #i cried a few minutes into miracle then in school song for some reason? and then when i grow up of course and finally at the encore #also the set design was insane #the stage was like a circle with big letters spelling matilda…#but when they brought a certain letter upfront and showed its back it made up a different setting like matilda’s room or miss honey’s house #it was so freaking cool like please search pictures #also unrelated but mrs wormwood did a silent bend and snap at some point in the beginning of the show and i laughed so hard #no one else did but it’s okay myra i saw it and i appreciate it #(myra ruiz played mrs wormwood and fabi bang ms honey)#(if these names seem familiar to you it’s cause they’re the incredibly iconic brazilian elphaba and glinda respectively)#my post #matilda #matilda the musical

Consider: Deaf West style Matilda

Hear me out: Matilda in BSL or ASL would actually be the greatest thing. It's like the show was made for sign

Headcanon:

Matilda is is profoundly deaf but comes from a hearing family

Miss Honey is deaf too, and maybe one or two of her parents were as well

She sees a lot of herself reflected in Matilda

Crunchem Hall was originally meant to be a safe space for deaf or HoH kids/kids with deaf or HoH family, but now

Trunchbull is pushing and oralist agenda

When kids start to fingerspell or sign, she reprimands them and has them speak instead (like the Latin recitation scene in DWSA)

Chokey especially sucks because the kids can't communicate by sign since no one can see them

Lavender is HoH and as spoken communication isn't her strong suit, she likes to express herself through loud clothes and a big personality

Bruce is hearing, so when he's sent off to Chokey it makes a lot of kids scared since it could be a lot worse for them as they'd be even more alone

Matilda's pushback means a lot to the kids at school because it might be the first time they see someone like them making real change

The fear and higher stakes exacerbates the importance of the kids' rebellion and the bravery that goes into it

Revolting Children is the coolest thing ever because all the kids stand up and very deliberately incorrectly fingerspell every. single. word.

And the song - and the rest of the show - is not just them standing up for their classmate, it's them standing up for their own identities and the identities of people they love

(And obviously, we must sneak Marlee Matlin in there somewhere)

#went to see it tonight with my mum and <3 <3 <3 thank u creators of matilda movie musical u did a great job #the only thing that upset me a little bit was the lack of swings during when i grow up but the motorbike was also cool ig #everything else was perfect #the fucking??? bruce eating the chocolate cake scene???? absolutely stunning. perfect.#i’m not even a massive fan of the matilda musical but i would watch that movie a million more times.#i did see it on west end a few years back and i’m pretty sure i enjoyed it then idk this was years ago but yeah the movie felt v similar #and i admire that.

Before The Pandemic, I was a lighting technician on 'Matilda the Musical'. It was probably the most fun I had in my almost 20yr West End career... anyway, I finally got round to watching the film adaptation and it's absolutely fantastic.

Emma Thompson is chewing the scenery and then some as Miss Trunchball. How has she not won every award?! And the kids...wow. Just wow.

Watch it. Seriously, it's amazing.
