Things I Realized In Obx
Me realizing Kie was asking them if they should peel from the motel while they were already outside on the ledge.
Me realizing Peterkin was never able to discover that Big John was alive.
Me realizing we never found out if they found Scooter’s boat.
Me realizing Wheezie has been the only person I’ve seen ever throw up in a show.
Me realizing Sarah bonded over the stars with both of her boyfriends.
Me realizing it was basically impossible for Tanny to get the gold off the ship cause I know damn well those rubber lifeboats couldn’t stay afloat with that much gold on it. Shit the gold weighed a whole plane down, let alone a boat!
Me realizing John B told those kids to stay in school even though he never did.
Me realizing that Sarah said buttercup in 1.4 and then the next episode JJ mentioned the Powerpuff Girls.
Me realizing Pope called Kook land Kooklandia just for JJ to then call the island Poguelandia.
Me realizing that when Sarah mentioned John B’s dad who was supposed to be dead, she called that a lame thing to say. The same way Kie pointed out that JJ calling her a Kook was lame.
Me realizing Sarah said she was gonna sugar momma John B in both s1&2.
Me realizing JJ mentioned John B was 16 in the car in season one and then yelled he was 17 during the court case which means his bday passed at some point.
Me realizing that Luke said he saw JJ’s mom in him and that’s why he roughens him up. So he basically sees a woman in JJ and in his mind is “oh let me beat his ass”.
Me realizing that it would’ve been really stupid for Ward to kill John B on the boat considering how Sarah knew that John B was with her father. If he had died, no one else could say John B was with them, only Ward could.
Me realizing John B has been hit with a car in s1 just for him to hit Cleo with a car in s2.
Me realizing that both Kie and JJ thanked the person who was telling them I love you. Kie thanked Pope and JJ thanked Kie. They also both said what when it first happened.
Me realizing that the cops were knocking on a vacant home when looking for John B so I never understand why they said open up when nobody fucking lives there.
Me realizing that if JJ never stole from Barry, Rafe and Barry never would’ve followed Kie’s car. It makes me wish JJ was the one to save Kie since it was his technically fault that they were there to begin with. But I also know that Pope needed his hit on Rafe sooo there’s that.
Me realizing Sarah and John B did not have on life jackets when The Phantom flipped over. So when did they have the time to find the lifejackets and put them on in a thrashing storm.
Me realizing that John B was wearing Topper’s shirt the whole time during s2 until they got back home.
Me realizing that we never saw how The Pogues figured out it was Gavin who flew the plane. Like they figured it out so fast.
Me realizing that we don’t know if Terrance and Stubby are alive after the shootout. Cleo heard the shootout but she never mentioned whether or not they made it.
Me realizing both Kiara and Pope left their dad’s trucks after they had accidents.
Me realizing that we never figured out how that sick patient knew JJ’s name.
Me realizing that so far Kiara has been the ONLY Pogue to interact with Luke, the same way JJ is the ONLY Pogue to ever go inside her house.
Me realizing that Kiara straight up told her parents about how she was abducted and how scared she was and they still had the audacity to let Kitty Hawk abduct her the same way they did her back in the Caribbean.
Me realizing that Topper called Sarah a liar but yet he still continues to go back to her no matter what.
Me realizing Topper denied he wasn’t a jealous person in s1 just to then burn down John B’s house in s3 cause of his jealousy.
Me realizing if Kie’s parents never turned Sarah away, she never would have been found by Topper which means she never would’ve cheated on John B…so again FUCK KIE’S PARENTS.
Me realizing that Big John really switched up on Sarah, went from welcoming her to the family to leaving her out of the search.
Me realizing Sarah is no longer wearing the “ring” John B gave her. Her neck didn’t have it the entire time during s3. (Could be wrong)
Me realizing without Sarah literally they never would have been able to figure out the clues to get to El Dorado
Me realizing Singh has to have some type of blood kink cause he sure as hell was eager to touch every patch of Big John’s blood he found.

Deep Dive into JJ Maybank 3:
Tumblr media
This is our third (and possibly final) post about JJ Maybank!
In this deep dive, we'll talk about everything that Kiara has gone through these past couple of years and what brought him to the lovely state of New York!
I shouldn't have to say it, but I know some of you have barley two brain cells to rub together, so this takes place the same time as Kiara's timeline does.
Throughout the summer of 2020, JJ is seen hanging out with the Pogues and getting into trouble. They love to drink beer, ride on the boat, and go on adventures. JJ, along with The Pogues, decide to search for the missing gold from the shipwreck, The Royal Merchant.
Throughout the summer of 2020, they follow clues and get into a few altercations in order to finally track down the gold. Once they do, they are only initially able to retrieve a little gold, which JJ tries to sell in a pawn shop. JJ is always butting heads with the Kooks. He encourages Pope's idea to sink Topper's boat, but when the cops come to arrest Pope JJ takes the blame for it and goes to jail instead. At the end of season 1, JJ helps John B make his escape from the police. He steals his father's boat to lend it to John B.
Throught the fall of 2020, JJ, Kiara and Pope find out that Sarah and John B are still alive, but they are in Nassau. The three others try to clear John B's name as he is still found guilty for the murder of Sheriff Peterkin. JJ, Kiara and Pope find out that Ward Cameron paid the man who flew the airplane to not tell anybody that he saw Rafe kill the sheriff. They film Ward's interaction with the man and how he kills him and loses the gun, the murder weapon. Ward sees them and they have to flee. They accidentaly destroy the material, so they have to come back to the drain in which the gun fell into and get it out.
Later on, the group reunites. They go on a search for the golden cross. JJ helps his dad leave the island.
At the end of 2020, JJ and the Pogues are getting by on the deserted island. They see a plane and flag down the pilot- thinking they are going to be rescued.
The group agree that he is their only chance of getting off the island so they just go along with what he says. They get on the plane. JJ asks Jimmy why he was flying in this area and he tells them it’s to fish for Wahoo. The group realize Wahoo aren’t in season and so he must be lying. They see a photo of the boat they used before in Jimmy’s bag and this confirms their fears. They fight with Jimmy and the plane crashes in the water. John B, Sarah, JJ, Pope, and Cleo swim away.
JJ and The Pogues are desperate to find Kiara, who was separated from them after the crash. They try to find her but Carlos and his men find them first -determined to kidnap them still. The Pogues run away.
JJ goes back to the Outer Banks. He and the Pogues try to steal the cross from Ward but Rafe gets it first and melts it.
The Pogues try to find their way to South America to rescue Big John. Kiara’s parents are not happy and decide to force her to go to a wilderness camp called Kitty Hawk so JJ goes and breaks her out. They kiss. Kiara and JJ meet with Barracuda Mike because they made a deal - to give him part of their El Dorado treasure if he gets them secure transportation to South America.
JJ and Kiara get to South America with Barracuda Mike. They reunite with the rest of the Pogues. They find the treasure and are thrilled.
A few months after returning from South America, JJ and his friends are approached to help find Blackbeard's treasure. No word is in yet if him and his friends have found it, but it would make sense as to why he was here.
Glad that you're here, JJ

New Sheriff In Town | JJ Maybank Fanfic | Part Eighteen: Goodbye.
Tumblr media
JJ grabbed a pitcher and a glass of wine from the bar, dropping the glass of wine at the table closest to him and then moving around to fill up glasses with ice water.
He was absolutely fuming inside. His ears were ringing and he was seeing red at the edges of his vision. He was afraid he might do something he'd regret later, but he couldn't afford to miss this shift at The Club. It was the one job paying his phone bill and the electric bill for his Dad's place.
He kept repeating the whole conversation in his head, the way Kitty had cried, how he kicked her desk chair over and then his final words to her. Not to mention that everyone at the club was talking about John B, how he was a murderer and deserved to die.
The game he played in his head wasn't working anymore, he couldn't switch back and forth between one problem and the next, everything was colliding and he wished he could just turn it all off.
"Shut up" he couldn't contain himself, Topper tried to jump in but he cut him off "Shut Up Topper!" He yelled
Kelce tried to jump in too but JJ was already over the edge, grabbing a glass off of the table and tapping it with a piece of silverware. He announced to everyone dining on the porch that John B, in fact, did not kill Sheriff Peterkin and that it was Rafe Cameron to blame.
Kelce stood and got in JJs face, spewing some bullshit about how the Pogues could never take responsibility for their own actions. That was it, JJ had heard enough.
He grabbed the pitcher of water and sloshed it over Kelce's head, leading to an altercation between the two. They held each other by the front of their shirts, pushing one another back and forth while Topper jumped in to try and break it up.
The two young men were pulled apart and JJ heard his name being called behind him. It was the manager, he knew what was coming next so he untied the stupid ass apron they made him wear and tossed it to him.
"I know, I'm fired"
He walked away, clutching his chest. He couldn't catch his breath and felt like there was an enormous weight sitting on his lungs. What was happening to him?
He walked into the employee locker room and collected his phone and wallet, checking to see if he had any messages. There were three missed calls from Kitty, along with three voice messages.
1:12 PM
"JJ it's me, please pick up, my grandparents are going to be here any minute and I want to talk to you, I don't want to leave like this, please call me."
2:45 PM
"Hi it's Kitty again, we're loading up the rest of the boxes, I want to see you before I leave, I want a real goodbye. Please JJ"
3:32 PM
The last message was almost silent, but he could hear faint noises in the background, music that sounded like the radio and the constant hum of a car in motion. He could also hear sniffles and soft cries, then a quiet voice came onto the phone "I love you, I'm so sorry"
Maybe if he drove fast he could catch up with her, he thought, or maybe they hadn't really left yet. He muscled his way past the assholes standing on the porch waiting for him to leave, calling out for him to 'drive safe back to the cut' and to 'get the hell out of here'. His chest was still hurting, he felt like he couldn't breathe fully, but he didn't have time to worry about it at this moment. He had to try to make it back to his girl... but not without a little bit of jack-assery first.
He climbed on his bike and turned around, flipping the assholes on the porch the bird, and revving the engine. He drove his bike right up into a flower bed and revved again, spewing dirt and plantings everywhere. He took off across the lawn and onto the sidewalk, driving as fast as he could to get to the sheriffs house.
JJ sped right up to the Jackson's and hopped off his bike while it was still running. Marshall's cruiser sat in the driveway, but there was no sign of anyone else there.
He ran to the front door, when suddenly he caught motion in the corner of his eye. Marshall was sitting in a rocking chair on one end of the porch, drinking a beer and surveying the scene in front of him.
"She called three times, man" he said after taking a swig from the bottle he was holding
"Fuck" JJ let out, "I was at work Sheriff"
"I get it brother, been there done that" he gave JJ a sad smile, "she asked me to say bye to you, in case you didn't get the messages"
JJ took a seat on the front porch steps and dropped his head, "I got them"
"Heard y'all had a pretty big fight about it this morning huh?"
"How could you do it?" JJ questioned, turning back to face the older man "how could you send your only child away?"
"My only child, who last year almost lost her life in a car accident, and then just last week was abducted and assaulted by a drug dealer, how could I send her away?" Marshall looked him right in the eyes and continued "You don't understand this yet, maybe you never will, but as a father my most important job is not only to love her unconditionally, but to protect her. And I've failed at that twice now."
JJ thought about his own dad, "I don't think my fathers protected me from anything in my whole life." He stammered.
"Maybe someday you'll have the privilege of becoming a father and breaking that cycle Jonathan. But right now, I have to do whatever I can to keep her safe, and I can't do that if she's here."
JJ put his face in his hands and shook his head. "I understand. I don't like it, but I understand." He lifted his face and looked out into the street "I wanted to protect her too"
Marshall stood up and set his drink down, walking across the porch and taking a spot next to JJ on the steps "I know you did, JJ" he put his arm around the young man "now you can focus on getting yourself on track, you don't have to worry about protecting her anymore. She's safe"
The boy nodded and stood up, stepping down to the sidewalk and down to the curb to pick up his bike. "Thanks Sheriff, I'll see ya later"
"You're welcome, JJ. School tomorrow, right?"
JJ nodded and smiled, "yes sir, I'll try, I promise."

the dark side - jj maybank x shoupe’s daughter (ch. 3)
Tumblr media
w/c: 2.5k
warnings: underage drinking, mentions of other illicit activity, typos probably, but this is mostly just jj fluff
summary:  catherine shoupe has the perfect life. when she gets hired by heyward to run groceries, she has a new coworker - jj maybank. as the deputy’s daughter, she can’t help but hate him. but when jj decides to bring her to the dark side and woo her over, cat not only has to hide her activities from her father, but learn who her father really is.
a/n: i’ve been super busy and lacking inspo, so i knocked this out in about an hour and a half (and tbh i’m kinda proud of it).  this is definitely based on that time last week i drank 8 beers while swimming and was so drunk i fell off the dock then cried while making a pizza bc i started thinking about drew starkey
side note, the tags weren’t working on the last two chapters, so if you could reblog this that would mean the world to me :)
get caught up on other chapters here! or check out my masterlist!
----
JJ’s words ate at Cat as she drove home. Leave it to JJ to put that foul taste in her mouth - was he trying to turn her against her own father? Or wanting her to come to the dark side with him?  Of course JJ didn’t like her dad. He was a troublemaker, flirting with all the punishments that were associated with breaking the law.
Cat got home ten minutes later. Her dad was waiting up for her - it was later than she realized, and she was too caught up with JJ - and then flustered - to text him. “How’d it go?” he asked, seeing her face and pulling her into a hug.
“It was okay. I’m just tired,” she said quietly, her head pressed against her dad’s shoulder.
“You want any dinner?” he asked, and she shook her head. “Okay. Good night, sweetie.”
That night and all of the next day, she couldn’t stop thinking about what JJ had said to her.
Cat spent her day off with her best friend. They shopped before dropping their bags off at Cat’s, changing and going to the beach.
“Tell me about your new job,” Kya insisted, laying beside her. Her eyes were hidden by large, pink sunglasses, a smile plastered on her face.
“Well… it’s different, that’s for sure. I like spending most of my day on the water.” Cat threw an arm up to shield the sun so she could see her friend better. “The guys I work with keep it… interesting.”
“Heyward’s kid? What’s his name?”
“Pope. Yeah, I like him a lot. I usually work with either him or JJ.”
“Maybank?” Kya asked, pushing herself up slightly, and Cat nodded. “Woah, seriously? You haven’t killed each other yet?”
“Actually… we made up for everything last night. Got dinner and everything. He wanted to air everything out, and we had a good night.”
“You got dinner with JJ Maybank?”
Cat sighed as her friend took off her sunglasses to look at her, her eyes wide. “Yes, Kya, why is that such a big deal?”
“You know he’s a total pothead, right? And his dad’s into all sorts of drugs.”
“Well, that’s a good thing I only work with him, then,” Cat responded cooly. “I just want to be friendly enough to make work not insufferable. I don’t care what he does in his free time.”
“Does your dad know?” Kya asked, and sat upright when Cat shook her head. “You’re kidding me, Cat.”
“He doesn’t need to know, he’d just worry.” Cat tried to ignore how worked up all of this made Kya. “Beside, I’ve made it clear to him I don’t want to get involved in anything he or his friends do.”
Kya sighed, laying back down beside her. “You better not. You’re the only friend I have that hasn’t gone all party mode.”
“That’s not gonna happen any time soon.” Cat tried to reassure her, but remembered JJ’s words. I’ll get you out of your bubble, he had said, a charming grin lighting up his face. Everything about JJ’s existence seemed effortless - he didn’t worry about what people thought about him, and didn’t particularly care for impressing people or following every single rule.
All throughout high school, like Kya had said, they lost friends until their once tight-knit friend group shrank to just the two of them. Everyone discovered alcohol, which was easily available at keggers and parties that seemed to happen almost every night. Some started smoking weed, others started doing harder stuff. People changed, and Cat knew that, but she didn’t like that type of change. Even if she did still want to be friends with those people, she knew it wouldn’t fly with her father, much less with Kya’s mother.
Kya Peterkin was the one person who had Cat’s back while they were growing up. Whenever their classmates adopted the we-hate-cops attitude, they were shunned together. They obeyed the same sets of rules, and since their parents worked so closely together, they were bound to become best friends as well.
Sometimes, though, Cat wanted to break the rules. She was tired of being under the watchful, critical eye of her parents. Maybe JJ was what she needed - someone to be that person to get her out there. There was something about the way he spoke to her the other day, like he knew something she didn’t. About her, and about her dad.
The next day, she worked with Pope.
The day after, she worked with JJ.
It was the first time she actually enjoyed working with JJ. The talk they had eased the tension - JJ sat on the bow of the boat, his vape pinched between his lips, swinging his feet in the air while Cat slowed the boat as they approached the no wake zone. As she eased up to the dock to complete the last delivery of the day, JJ hopped off and tied the boat while Cat started readying the groceries.
Cat wanted to ask him, so, what are you doing tonight?, but she had been taught to never invite herself to things. Luckily, JJ seemed to read her mind, a cocky smile tugging on his lips as they loaded bags into the carts they would haul down the sandy paths to the McEvers’ house.
“You busy tonight?” he asked casually, passing groceries from the boat down to her.
“Not at all,” she replied.
“Wanna go for a boat ride?”
“With who?”
“Me and my friends,” he replied, jumping down from the boat to be next to her. He had a red work shirt on, matching his backwards red hat.
“What will be happening on said boat ride?” she asked, partly because she was curious and wanted confirmation, partly to annoy him.
“What, you turning into a cop?” JJ asked. “Your dad knows what we do, everyone on the island knows and everyone on the island does exactly what we do.”
“And what do you do?”
JJ raised his eyebrows before taking a hold of the handle of the cart. “Just a little booze cruise is all. Don’t worry, Pope’s the DD.”
“And you’re not worried I’ll rat you all out?” she asked, taking her own cart and starting to haul it down the path after him.
“No, because you would never let your father know you’re hanging out with me.”
JJ’s words and tone were cocky. Cat smiled, trying to wipe her expression blank as JJ turned to look at her, but failed. “Sure. I’ll come tonight.”
“You got a swimsuit on you?”
“I’ll have to run home and pick one up, just let me know where to meet you.”
JJ flashed her a thumbs up, and before long, they had completed their delivery. The rest of the shift was uneventful; they boated back to Heyward’s, ran through the closing procedures, and JJ told her how to get to John B’s house.
“Just come out back to the dock when you get there, we’ll be waiting on the boat,” he had told her. Cat quickly drove home, telling her dad she was going to treat herself to a night out at the movies, changing before driving south to the Cut.
Two cars were parked in front of John B’s house. Following JJ’s instructions, she walked around the side of the house, seeing the dock lit up with deck lights, hearing voices from a boat tied to the end.
The voices became hushed as she walked down the dock, and she saw someone shove JJ, while another threw a hat at him. As soon as she grew close enough to see JJ’s crew, Cat instantly regretted her decision of coming.
“Shoupe’s kid? Really, JJ?” she heard Kiara hiss, before plastering a big smile on her face. “Hey, Cat.”
She stopped hesitantly on the end of the dock. Just go back home, a voice inside her brain told her, and she was about to start back towards her car when JJ stood, grabbing her hand, pulling her onto the boat.
“Be nice, please,” he said in a sing-songy voice, knowing that Cat had overheard them.
“Dude - really?” John B asked bluntly. He had dropped the hand holding a beer down in a subtle attempt to hide it.
“My lips are sealed.” Cat caught Kiara’s eye roll out of the corner of her vision, and Pope sighed, obviously disliking the conflict.
“Well, let’s go then,” John B said, tension still apparent in his voice. JJ nodded towards the back of the boat, and Pope moved to make room for her to sit.
“Want a drink, kitty Cat?” JJ asked, but before she could answer, Kiara was making a gagging sound and John B looked at him with wide eyes.
“The fuck you call her?” John B asked, and JJ grinned.
“Kitty Cat.”
“I thought I told you to never call me that ever again,” Cat said, leaning forward to look into the cooler. It was full of Pabst and White Claws. She started reaching for one of the latter, but hesitated.
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to,” Pope said quietly, but Cat could feel everyone’s eyes on her.
She looked up to JJ, who shrugged. “The black cherry is my favorite,” he said.
“You admitted it! You like them!” Pope burst suddenly, pointing accusingly at JJ, who just shrugged before speaking.
“There ain’t no laws when you’re drinking Claws,” he claimed, pausing as Cat grabbed one of the black cherries. “Atta girl, Cat.”
She popped the top and took a sip. It was okay, the sharp taste and the carbonation causing her to make a face. The second drink was easier.
As John B pushed the throttle, the conversation died down as they made their way across the water. Cat sat against the back right side of the boat with Pope, while Kiara sat on the back left side, JJ going off to stand next to John B.
“You don’t have to let him pressure you into doing this, you know.”
Pope’s words were sudden, almost lost in the wind. Cat pressed her lips together into a small smile before looking at him and responding. “It’s been a long time coming.”
He smiled back at her, and Cat reverted her gaze to JJ. He still wore his work shirt and that backwards red hat, but had changed into a pair of tropical patterned board shorts and flip flops. Leaning over John B, one hand on the dash of the boat and one on the back of the seat, he was talking with a serious look on his face, and John B was sitting, his jaw set.
After twenty minutes, they reached what Pope informed her was their favorite place to swim and watch the sunset. She had finished her drink, a slight warmness filling her body.
A lime White Claw was next up. It sat on the edge of the boat, half-drank, as they all jumped into the water, the setting sun coloring the water orange, as if it were on fire. Swimming up to the boat, she finished it, tossing the can back into the cooler.
“Atta girl,” JJ praised from out in the water, just his head and beer visible. She burped in response, giggling a little. “Help yourself to another, kitty Cat, you’re off tomorrow.”
She grabbed a lemon before swimming back out to the group. Pope, Kiara, and John B were deep into a discussion about the skunk ape of Florida, and if there was a North Carolina equivalent. As the evening progressed, they seemed to relax slightly at Cat’s presence.
“You feeling okay?” JJ asked as she swam up to him, cradling a life jacket in one arm while she held her drink with the other. She nodded and he took a sip of his beer.
“Can I try it?” she asked.
“You never tasted a beer?” She shook her head, and JJ handed it towards her. “Don’t judge it off this one, JB has shitty taste.”
“Hey!” there was a protest from John B’s direction, and Cat made a face at the taste of the slightly warm beer.
“Why would you want to drink that?” she asked, handing it back to JJ. He shrugged and took another swig, tilting the bottom towards the sky before crushing it in his fist and throwing it back towards the boat, where it met the other cans with a clink.
Before long, it was dark, and the group swam back to the boat. “You feeling okay?” JJ asked as Kiara heaved herself up, Cat putting her empty can with all the other ones and nodded.
“I feel… fine.” Cat was kind of disappointed; she felt warm, a little fuzzy in her head, but other than that, not how she expected to feel.
“Wait until you’re in the boat,” John B said, watching as JJ heaved himself up. “Better yet, until we get to shore.” JJ yelped as John B pushed him up with a hand to his ass, and John B pushed himself in easily.
Cat tried to haul herself in, but couldn’t. John B chuckled, and he and JJ each took a hand, pulling her up, and as soon as she was sitting on the floor of the boat, she understood what John B had meant.
“Come on kitty Cat, to the bow,” JJ was saying, his hands in her armpits. He helped her to the front of the boat, which was open and flat.
“Can you get my towel?” she asked, the evening breeze cold on her wet skin. She knew it would just get worse as they started the ride to shore. JJ left her on the bow as he went to the back of the boat for her towel, and she felt him lay it on her shoulders as he returned.
He sat down beside her, and they were silent as Pope pulled up the anchor and John B started up the boat. As they started moving, Cat was unsteady, and JJ chuckled as she had to plant her hands on the ground to keep herself from falling over into him.
“How many you have? Three?”
“Four,” she said, holding up four fingers in his face. “One of each flavor.”
“And it’s your first time? You’re seasoned already. If only your dad could see you now.”
“Don’ talk about him,” Cat said, putting a finger to his lips, telling him to hush. “I don’t wanna think about it.”
JJ laughed again. “Okay, then, we won’t.” He put his hand on hers, gently rubbing it with his thumb.
If Cat wasn’t drunk she probably would have noticed the way John B raised his eyebrows, the way Kiara rolled her eyes, and the way that Pope smiled softly. She would have noticed the way he caught her as she swayed unsteadily when they hit a wake, how he brought her towel back up on her shoulder when it blew off.
She probably would have noticed the way JJ looked at her, his eyes devouring every inch of her, his body relaxed for the first time in who knows how long.

Requested by: @inaciocavaleira There is almost no screencaps of Kitty Peterkin, which made this incredible hard to make. And I’m still not 100% happy with it. 😒 #thegreatestshowman #phillipcarlyle #zacefron #annewheeler #zendaya #kittypeterkin #auships #crossover #myedit #fandom_edits_au_shipsTGSM

Christmas Survival (2018)
This one was much less painful. It's a mature British made-for-tv movie about Christmas with a dysfunctional family.
Dan (Julian Ovenden) and Miranda (Gemma Whelan) have moved into the farmhouse that Miranda inherited when her parents passed. It's still a work in progress, but they still invite everyone over for Christmas. Miranda and their kids Daisy (Kitty Peterkin), twins Dylan (Riley White), and Bobby (Lochlan White) are at home to prepare and welcome guests while Dan goes to London. First to arrive is Miranda's famous sister Lyla (Joely Richardson) and her obnoxious alcoholic husband Trent (Michael Landes) with their teenage daughter Bee (Sophie Simnett), bratty son Tyler (Harvey Fisher), and, for some reason, a Chinese girl named Soon (Jade Ma) who they say is an exchange student, but I'm like 90% sure it's not through a legit school. Shortly after, Dan's sister Vicky (Ronnie Ancona) arrives. It cuts back and forth to Dan in London running his errands, and he stops over at his ex-wife Miriam's (Sally Phillips) to see his son Harry (Jonas Moore) who is struggling with a marijuana addiction. Then Dan picks up Aunt Peggy (Patricia Hodge) and they go back home to the country. This whole time, there is a crew of Polish construction workers working on the house, led by Witek (Radoslaw Kaim), who keep getting called away from fixing a leak to help with Christmas prep. The next day, Christmas day, diabetic Uncle John (James Fox) comes over with his home health who looks like Secret Service. Miranda and Lyla fight, Trent pisses off everybody, Dan fights with everybody, the Poles get drunk with Bee and Soon and get arrested, Dan bails them out, but then the Poles disappear for 24 hours, the new oven breaks, the kids fight with each other, Trent does coke and tries to sleep with Vicky, the twins see Aunt Peggy "dying" because she's "on the floor moaning" (she's masterbating), Harry checks in and out of rehab, Miriam comes on to Vicky, Bee hooks up with a Polish guy, Soon and Harry hook up only for Soon to be dragged out by her Chinese family, Uncle John passes out from low blood sugar, Tyler tries to kill Dylan for insulting him, and Daisy loses her mind when she learns that Dan has killed her turkey, Gobbles.
Basically, there is a whole lot going on. A whole lot to keep straight. A lot of over the top drama and a lot of resentment in a cute British countryside estate. If you can keep everything straight, it's entertaining.
Overall, I give it 3 stars.

Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Matilda The Musical: l-r Lily-Mae Evans, Emma Moore, Kitty Peterkin and Savannah – Credit Manuel Harlan
The Royal Shakespeare Company’s Matilda The Musical has announced that Lily-Mae Evans, Kitty Peterkin and Savannah Read will join Emma Moore in the title role of Matilda from 12 September 2017. The multi award-winning production is about to enter its seventh year in the West End and is booking at the Cambridge Theatre until 27 May 2018.
To mark the arrival of the new children’s cast, a video has been released today of the four young actresses as they take to the floor at Pineapple Studios, under the tutelage of Rebecca Thornhill, who plays Matilda’s mum and bi-annual international amateur Salsa and Ballroom Dancing Championship competitor Mrs Wormwood.
The show’s forthcoming cast change will see Lily-Mae, Kitty, Savannah and Emma join the recently announced new adult company, which includes David Shannon as Miss Trunchbull, Gina Beck as Miss Honey, and Tom Edden and Marianne Benedict as Mr and Mrs Wormwood.
The other young performers announced today join the London company in the three teams who play the roles of Bruce, Lavender, Amanda and the rest of the pupils at Crunchem Hall and are as follows: Bill Bekele, Joe Butler-Smith, Omar Cain-Francis, Halle Cassell, Lucy Cheesman, Liberty Greig, Lauren Henson, Callum Hudson, Vaidile Jonikas, Mia McLoughlin, Miller Morris, Palmer Newson, Rocco Peacock, Lottie Refet, Finn Richards, Martin Soosaipillai, Will Tarpey and Alex Wenham.
Jessica Chalmers, Hari Coles, Archie Durrant, Sebastian Harry, Tori Louise Ryan, Tilda Marriage Massey and Kacy O’Sullivan will continue in the roles of Bruce, Lavender, Amanda and the pupils at Crunchem Hall.
The full adult cast includes Keisha Amponsa Banson, Richard Astbury, David Birch, Maria Graciano, Karina Hind, Peter Houston, Katie Lee, Vicki Lee Taylor, Kris Manuel, Bryan Mottram, Tom Muggeridge, Emma Robotham-Hunt, Simon Shorten, Biancha Szynal, Callum Train and Robert Tregoning.
Seen by over 7 million people across more than 60 cities and playing more than 5300 performances worldwide, Matilda The Musical is now preparing for its first UK and Ireland tour, beginning in March 2018, and running alongside the continuing West End production. Winner of 86 major international awards, including 16 for Best Musical, the hit show is now the longest running production to play at the Cambridge Theatre.
Inspired by Roald Dahl’s beloved book, Matilda The Musical was commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company and premiered at the RSC’s Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in November 2010, before transferring to London’s West End in October 2011, where it opened to rave reviews.
Having swept the board at the 2012 Olivier Awards, winning a record-breaking seven awards, the New York production of Matilda The Musical opened in April 2013 at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre and was celebrated on 10 “Top Ten” lists for 2013, including TIME Magazine’s #1 Show of the Year. The show also won four Tony Awards and a Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theater for the four girls sharing the title role on Broadway.
In July 2016, the Australian production broke further records by winning all thirteen Helpmann Awards for which it was nominated. Having also won a Sydney Theatre Award for Best Musical in 2015, the Australian production has also played sold-out seasons in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. The production premiered at the Civic Theatre in Auckland on 24 August where it is now playing until 22 October.
Matilda The Musical is produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company with André Ptaszynski and Denise Wood as Executive Producers. The production was developed with the support of Jeanie O’Hare and the RSC Literary Department.
Matilda The Musical is written by Dennis Kelly, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, and direction by Matthew Warchus. The production is designed by Rob Howell, with choreography by Peter Darling, orchestrations, additional music and musical supervision by Christopher Nightingale, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, sound by Simon Baker and the special effects and illusions are by Paul Kieve.
This is my second outing to this show, having first seen it three years ago: I mustn’t leave it so long until my third. The huge set, plays on words, skilful choreography and engrossing acting combine to provide a more than satisfying experience to be enjoyed by all. It’s as much of a work of genius as Matilda herself. 5-stars by Chris Omaweng
