Nissan R390 GT1 (Road-legal)
These days, there are supercars and hypercars everywhere, all of which offer scintillating performance and a cool factor that is difficult to imitate. But very few cars are based on true racing machines. That wasn't the case in a bygone era when monsters like the McLaren F1 LM and Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR ruled the roost. Japan also tried its hand at creating road-legal racecars, and one of the most famous was the Nissan R390 GT1, a legend of Nismo history. Penned by celebrated designer Ian Callum, only one roadgoing version was ever made, although its 3.5-liter engine formed the basis for the McLaren V8 that is in circulation today. Luckily, Nissan isn't hiding it in a museum for all eternity and brought it out to wow the crowds at Concorso d'Eleganza, at Lake Como's Villa d'Este. The 3.5-liter twin-turbo V8 produced 550 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque back in 1998, all of which was channeled to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission. It weighed roughly the same as a current-gen Mazda MX-5 Miata, tipping the scales at just 2,420 pounds, which translated to a 0-60-mph sprint time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 220 mph. The quarter-mile could reportedly be dispensed with in just 11.9 seconds - not bad for something designed for endurance racing. Sadly, Nissan never followed through on its promise to bring it into mainstream production, and this remains the only example ever made. If only something this cool could be made from the current Nissan GT-R.

McLaren Senna LM (1 of 20).
The 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans stood out not only for being the wettest-ever running of the race, but also for McLaren’s dominance, with four of its F1 GTR cars finishing in the top five places. What made that victory even more poignant was that it was McLaren’s maiden entry in the French endurance race—a phenomenal achievement that has become part of motorsport folklore. In 2020, 25 years later, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) produced its own tribute to the winning cars in that race: the McLaren Senna LM. The hypercar was based around the standard Senna model, with components from the Senna GTR used to create an F1 GTR-inspired aesthetic, along with modifications to increase engine power. Just 20 Senna LMs were produced, and only seven were painted in the Papaya Orange of this example.
MSO’s attention to detail was painstaking. As well as fitting bespoke, vented front wings and making extensive use of gloss carbon fibre around the LM’s mirrors, nose, and rear diffuser, a unique “LM” script was etched into the carbon fibre weave of the rear wing’s side-tips. The standard Senna’s wheels were also replaced by F1 GTR-style five-spoke OZ Racing centre-lock rims, shod with Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo tyres. Other neat touches included the Senna LM’s high-mounted exhaust outlets, referencing the F1’s use of gold leaf as a heat reflector on top of the exhaust silencers. The gold leaf treatment also extended to the lining of the engine bay.
The Senna LM was not only defined by its appearance. Thanks to polishing and porting of its 4.4-litre, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine’s cylinder heads, power output increased to 814 brake horsepower—25 more than in the standard Senna. The transmission was unchanged, delivering drive to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. No performance figures were ever published for the Senna LM, though with the standard Senna model achieving 0 to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds and romping to a top speed of 335 km/h, it remains one of the fastest production cars available today.

Greetings, LEGO Enjoyers and this one of the first four sets alongside the Dynamic Duo of the BMW M4 GT3 and BMW M8 V8 LM Hypercar, the Ford Mustang Dark Horse and, the Audi eTron Pikes Peak. I'll get to the other two later on. But for now, it's time to focus on the good ol' Papaya Orange McLaren F1 car of 2023. The McLaren MCL60 is the car that ran in 2023 and I'm sorry if I made a mistake in one of the shorts videos calling it the recent car as I just found out that this set is based on the MCL60. But, I was still trying my best to fill in the shorts quota. I'll get to making more shorts in a bit as I still have a quota to fill. The McLaren MCL60 in LEGO form is actually pretty cool and it is the 2nd time we got ourselves a LEGO Speed Champions F1 car in the correct proportions. Who knows what we might get next?
