My current make against my previous make. Both works in progress, and both my first full body sculptures. I always have a few projects on the go, as there are always problems to ponder, and techniques to perfect. The smaller of the two is on hold while I experiment with different ways to blend colour. My current larger make will likely take time also, as I need to find a way to represent mange, working with the fabric to create cracks in the skin. These sculptures are only the base shape. When I eventually move on to create the surface finish, folds and ripples will mimick the movement of the skin. #handstitched #dogsculpture #textilesculpture #softsculpture #textileart #fiberart #visualart #nopatterns #freestyle #slowstitched #slowcraft #wipart #ukcraft #ukstitchers #ukart #dogart #doglove #dogloversofinstagram #fiberartist #fiberartistsofinstagram #britishart #britishfiberart #britishstitchers https://www.instagram.com/p/CfgZzETI5OX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Mounted it in an #embroideryhoop. I left the peaked round on the back that I used to tie it available if I wanted to find a bigger hoop and continue the piece.
So the inspiration photo for this piece is an image of a neglected dog. The posture and the sadness in the eyes meant for me, of the hundreds of images I searched, there was no doubt this poor soul would be my next adoration. There are a few key challenges to creating this representation. One of which was the way the back legs hovered in a cowering position of unrest. I can't tell you how difficult I found this. I am new to armatures, and I don't use the wire twisting techniques I see often, as I am a wuss with power tools. Instead I used a combination of wire, tape, tension created by fabric straps, and counter balancing with weights. I will definitely have to work on improving my technique and planning, to avoid the re-works I had to with this one. I can also predict at some stage I will need to explore stronger wire and rods, as often it is the off-balance stance that draws me in. #dogsculpture #dogartist #neglecteddog #cowering #wip #workinprogress #challenges #struggle #armatureworks #artistsprocess #handstitched #slowstitched #slowcrafting #nopatterns #softsculpture #sculpture #contemporaryart #contemporarytextiles #textileart #britishmaker #britishart #salisburyartist #sculptorsofinstagram #doglovers https://www.instagram.com/p/Cfa_tpWoui1/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
